Roster Answers Lie In Preseason Captains

Finalizing an NFL roster is always a fluid situation, but Dirk Koetter tipped his hand a tiny bit today at One Buc Palace.
Joe asked the head coach about the decision to have roster-bubble linebacker Cameron Lynch march out as a team captain against the Lions on Friday night. Who makes that call, Coach?
Koetter said that was an honor dished out by him for a job well done in training camp.
Hey, for Joe, that’s a huge piece of insider knowledge as to how the coach is grading and thinking about players.
That bodes very well for Lynch, who was on the Bucs roster last year but was cut in December. He then landed with the Rams and recorded three tackles for Los Angeles but did not appear in their playoff game.
For the record, Bucs captains on Friday were, Evan Smith, Jacquizz Rodgers, Adam Humphries, Vinny Curry and Lynch.
“Right now, that kind of gives some different guys that I think are doing a good job as leaders in practice a chance to be captain for that particular game,” Koetter said, adding the annual players’ vote for season-long captains is coming soon.

The captain’s vote will indeed be interesting this year. This is a group that would normally include JW…will the rest of the team overlook his absence for the first three games?
Remember when JFRO was a captain who lost his spot in one of these votes. Although there was a lot of speculation about Schiano fixing that vote.

Ah, the Jfro-Schiano captain controversy! Haven’t thought about that one in a while St. Pete!
It will definitely be interesting to see what happens with Winston,.. And how much the media will make of it, if he ends up not being chosen as a captain.

Big Jameis fan but he doesn’t need to be a Captain this year. He needs to focus on his play and earn his good graces. I like his focus this preseason and he doesn’t need any kind of distractions.

I agree Jameis has a lot to.prove to be a captain. I think Jpp needs to wear it. Dude is a leader of men clearly.
