Translation: You Signed A Slob

June 6th, 2018

Called out.

In so many words, an NFL suit wagged a finger at Bucs AC/DC-loving general manager Jason Licht for signing a dirtbag of a football player last year.

This player is better known as offsides-jumping, Lightning-trolling, belly-shirt-wearing, practice-hating, kicker-heckling, tree-grinding , non-contact-football-loving, chicken-wings-grilling, playing-time-squawking, TV-cooking-star, half-sack Swaggy Baker.

Swaggy, who stole $6 million of Team Glazer loot while prioritizing humping a palm tree over sacking quarterbacks or listening to teammates, was just the kind of skunk Licht steered away from this past offseason.

In a piece for BSPN, NFL insider Mike Sando spoke with NFL executives off the record to get a breakdown of each team’s offseason. This unnamed suit lauded Licht for learning from his mistakes and seemed to believe Licht signed quality character football players this offseason as opposed to a guy like Swaggy just looking for a check — and a wanting palm tree.

“I was critical of their moves last offseason because of the types of guys they were adding,” an exec said. “They tried to go the complete opposite this year. I like the fact that they did not make a bad mistake worse. They actually said, ‘We screwed it up. Let’s remedy it. Let’s get rid of some of these guys and move on from these pass-rushers.'”

Joe wonders what this exec may be saying about Mr. Beasting, Robert Ayers, who was released and as of this writing is still unemployed.

Joe never heard anything about Ayers being a bad teammate. Joe did notice, just by judging from social media photos from various Bucs players, Ayers didn’t seem to mingle much if at all with his teammates away from One Buc Palace.

Of course, in the grand scheme of things, that may not mean a whole lot. Ayers seems to be a very dedicated family man. Joe wonders if maybe Ayers didn’t buy in to what the Bucs were selling and freelanced too much?

Of course, we all know what Swaggy’s motivation was.

Free agency has not been kind to Nfl GM Licht!!!!! If Grimes did not know and like Coach Smitty, I don’t think there is a free agent that has really worked out!!!!!!!

    GO Bucs!!!!!!!!

  3. SB Says:

Hey Joe……..FYI the name and email issues are fixed here. Just happened this morning. 🙂

  4. miken Says:

Ira called that one in training camp. I think Ayers is a good dude, but older and slower and about done. The transformation of the Dline is the best thing we’ve done in a while

This trunkophile has rampaged long enough.

Licht has always moved on from mistakes quickly whether a free agent or draft pick. He learned that from billechick

  7. DB55 Says:

    Lightning trolling -LMAO – got’em!

The rest just fake news. The “new and improved” slime hasn’t played a snap but they already better than last years. Okay! We shall see.

    Paper chumps

Re: Ayers. He a RN not surprised he don’t waste his time chilling with cross-dressers on his time-off.

  8. Jmarkbuc Says:

I’ve got no problems with Lichts FA signings this year.

But realistically, it’s June and so at this point, all we have done is go from an historically bad Dline/Defense to one that is (hopefully) not bad..

We haven’t turned into the Steel Curtain overnight.. but thats why they play the games, let’s see how they do.

  9. Evolvingbucsfan Says:

we will see, just hope the main free agent we signed starts showing up, right JPP???

  10. Lord Cornelius Says:

” I don’t think there is a free agent that has really worked out!!!!!!!”

I think there’s been some decent contributors beyond Grimes:

    2014 – Clinton McDonald/Evan Smith-useful depth/role players – the rest busts
2015 – Chris Conte/Sterling Moore-still starting S,one of our better CBs tha tyear – the rest busts
    2016 – Grimes/Ayers – the rest busts
    2017 – Djax

If Djax does well this year and we go the playoffs it was a good signing. Ayers was good for the time we used him. There weren’t as many bust signings 2015-2017 as I’d have thought but 2014 was absolutely awful

  11. DB55 Says:

LOL, exactly! Where is the 3rd round pick JPP? Much leadership wow. McIceCream can’t wven get a the guy to show up for practice? But don’t worry much improved

  12. Dave Pear Says:

    DB55,

    Ayers is a Registered Nurse?
    I did not know that.

  13. 813bucboi Says:

I think baker noticed no one in tampa coaches or players were going to force him to do anything…..he didn’t fear/respect anyone in the locker room….he didn’t fear/respect front office….he came in did what he wanted and collected 6mil while doing it…..

    #NOEXCUSESIN2018!!!!….#PRESSURESONTHECOACHES!!!!….GO BUCS!!!!

Licht has always moved on from mistakes quickly whether a free agent or draft pick. He learned that from billechick

there are implications to that….lol….Vern ?

  15. AlteredEgo Says:

Good on Ayers if he is a RN….great career ahead of him….regular pay but RN’s are always in high demand and you can virtually pick up stakes and move ANYWHERE….and have a job day one !…

  16. TOM EDRINGTON Says:

Swaggy — One GIANT TURD floating away, in the water, under the bridge

  17. Lamarcus Says:

Baker might as well came in and snatched the C off GMC chest on stomped on it while Ayers watched.

Ayers defended Baker on camera when Kwon went off on him. So yeah cut Ayers also

  18. SOEbuc Says:

NO MORE CHRIS BAKER TALK JOE! We know he’s a fat lazy deauche that humps trees and gets beat up by players in the locker room after he jumped offsides for the loss. HE’S GONE NOW. END OF STORY.

  19. SOEbuc Says:

Is JPP known for missing spring practices like DJax was? Too many reasons for me to be pissed at him for it.

  20. DB Says:

    Joe,

Not sure if you wrote this already but interesting that PFF rated Ayers as such a high defensive end and yet he is still unemployed?

  21. Bird Says:

I am not sure what is more disturbing?

Chris baker’s play on the field

Or the picture of Chris baker above banging that harmless tree

  22. Mike Johnson Says:

Swaggy duped the Bucs for millions in one year. Sweezy is doing the same thing but he’s a..slow burn!!

  23. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    The Buc Realist Says
“Free agency has not been kind to Nfl GM Licht!”

I know, right? From the very start. That’s why I didn’t like him getting a free pass with Lovie…Licht was just as responsible for the free agency that year, and has proven it since.

I don’t know about you, but to me this year just feels different…like Licht put as much effort into free agency as he does the draft.

  24. RustyRhinos Says:

Hey DB55 is Mr. Ayers working nights or days shifts at the hospital? A RN who would have thunk that.

  25. Tom S. Says:

@Webster, I guess you didn’t follow much of Doug Martin’s career here then. Don’t think he was here a year or two too long on a top RB salary that could’ve been waived at no cost last offseason?

@Lord Cornelius DJax signing cost the Bucs a third round compensatory pick because Licht just had to get his 11 million dollar man which offset the 16 million Glennon got from the Bears. I assure you his 660 yards receiving 3 TD’s, blocking playing time from Godwin and likely 2 year stay here for over 20 million and a 3rd rounder was far FAR FAR from a good signing.

Congrats Licht, you’ve spent a ton of money in free agency and gotten mediocre at best players surrounded by busts. If that doesn’t show he’s the best GM in Bucs history I don’t know what will.

  26. Destinjohnny Says:

Did Jason even look into this clowns track records of being a lazy malcontent?

  27. Duke Says:

    Tom S,

    ‘re; DJax

If only Licht’ s foresight was as good as your hindsight.
Did signing DJax make sense coming off a 9-7 season? Godwin wasn’t drafted yet
So you must have a sixth sense to state that DJax took plays from a rookie the team hadn’t drafted.

Basically it’s easy to be right if you know the outcome. If you are a woman I understand.

    Now that’s funny.

  29. cmurda Says:

    Well said Duke

  30. Dapostman Says:

  31. BucEmUp Says:

Why is it unnamed? Too bad that would have started a really good Twitter battle.

Also my name and email are staying filled in now as well…problem fixed

  32. John5 Says:

The thing for me with Ayers was that when he came in he was also hyped up as this super mean dude. Someone with an attitude and fire up under him that immediately started trash talking and getting on all the players in a positive to way to give them a mean edge – not being soft. That was what all the reports said.

Then, this last season, the Bucs released several videos of different players/games where they were mic’d up. When they released the mic’d up game with Ayers, he literally didn’t say a word the entire game!!! In fact the only time he even uttered some words was on the sideline to try and say Mike Evans was going bald. I swear. Look it up. He was as quiet as a mouse. No ferociousness. No hyping up players. No edge. No trash talking. So my question is, did he change? Or was that hype all a bunch of BS? Because I heard the same hype about Swaggy’s attitude, and I’m hearing the same hype about the new D line guys. Swaggy was a lazy loud mouth who talked more trash about Tampa than anything.

  33. TouchDownTampaBay Says:

The fact that JPP has decided to come to training when it’s optional makes me think he is just here for his final contract and isn’t here to win. Not a good sign at all that thier prized free agent isn’t showing up yet.

  34. TouchDownTampaBay Says:

The fact that JJP has NOT

  35. John5 Says:

@TouchDownTampaBay I agree! Brand new team and defense and he’s not working with the guys.

I’ve talked to several diehard Giants and Eagles fans; not one of them cared that JPP or Vinny Curry left. I think that says a lot.

  36. Drew aka q Says:

Why are we even talking about the past… last year was horrible… to kwwp reading about these pukes we signed last year makes me want to do just that… lets move on please

  37. Eric2706 Says:

Ha ha RN= registered nurse you guys make me laugh. DB55 I’m sure they knew what you meant. But the comedy of it all is hilarious if they didn’t. Or maybe I don’t. Either I’m dying laughing

  38. Kevinator Says:

I’m with you Eric hahaha…I like to think they don’t know what RN really means though haha

  39. donuts Says:

When I see this D get a sack on Brees in week 1; I will start to believe in small increments. I agree with TD that JPP missing OTAs is not a good signal. In 2017, he did not miss the entire OTAs with Giants just 1 day. These are more signs that FA players dont have any respect for this franchise and its a pay check. I am no longer sure it can be fixed with this current ownership group that has really performed awful since Malcom’s passing.

  40. Frank n Furter Says:

Can someone come up with a series of gifs or memes that show Swaggy in various places (practice field, home, out with friends, driving around town) …
And in every one, there in the background, not so obvious but becoming clear as the Kenny G or “Hello, Is it me your looking for…” starts to play.

Is a sad, broken-hearted palm tree “pining” for what once was, but now is lost as it gazes lovingly, but sadly at Swaggy with his friends, or with his BBQ…. palm is lonely and left out.

  41. Evolvingbucsfan Says:

@ donuts…”When I see this D get a sack on Brees” lol too funny

  42. unbelievable Says:

It’s unbelievable that someone is still trying to defend Swaggy Baker. Serious lol.
