Better Than Swaggy

April 27th, 2018

“Dancing bear.”

Last year the Bucs broke out the checkbook to find help for stud defensive tackle Gerald McCoy.

This year they broke out a first round draft pick.

In this BSPN video, Field Yates explains Bucs first round pick Vita Vea is just the kind of “dancing bear” the Bucs need to help collapse the quarterback pocket from the middle.

Yates notes this is what the Bucs tried to do with offsides-jumping, belly shirt-wearing, practice-hating, kicker-heckling, tree-grinding , non-contact-football-loving, chicken-wings-grilling, playing-time-squawking, TV-cooking-star Swaggy Baker.

Vea already seems like an upgrade over Swaggy, and Vea has yet to even take a snap for the Bucs in underwear football.

Don’t pick on Swaggy….he helped us lose the Carolina game…..that should be the logic for all the losers who want us to lose “meaningless games”…..Swaggy should be their hero.

  2. AKick'nTheBucNuts Says:

I’m still replaying that 1-arm rag doll throw.

With the pocket collapsing now instead of giving the QB all day to throw, this is why I think they should go RB next, then CB.

  3. teacherman777 Says:

    Great pick!

Welcome to Tampa Maaui! (from Moana)

He seems very self-aware and humble.

He is a great guy for McCoy to partner up with 3 years!!

    Go GMC! GO Vea!

    Go Bucs!!

    Arden Key in the 2nd?

    Build the trenches!!

  4. Buc4life Says:

No doubt better than Fatty P! Our D-line has gone from one of the weakest to a strong unit. Now let’s solidify our DB and RB unit.

  5. Mike Johnson Says:

TampaBayBucfan..How come Swaggy did not help us tank that last game. Look who we would havw had at the 5 spot this year?

  6. teacherman777 Says:

    Vinny Curry/Noah Spence
    McCoy/Unrein
    Vea/ Allen
    JPP/ Gholston

Maybe add Shaqeem Griffin or Arden Key or Harold Landry or Ade Aruna to the group?

Deepest, biggest meanest, most versatile D-line in Bucs History!!

Let’s all pray for their health and safety!

    Jah Bless. One Love.

    Family!!

  7. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Get Hernandez…..trade up if necessary…..cut Sweezy & sign a FA CB……any running back left in the 2nd along with Barber will be able to run through gaping holes made by our new oline.

  8. nate_tweetz Says:

I was just watching some Ronald Jones Highlights…. That Cat is explosive, which is what the Bucs need. I think they should address CB first and try to pick up Jones later in the round.

  9. TheBucsAnthem Says:

I’m still neutral on this pick.

A very physically gifted run stuffer….

Tampa has never had a player of his size clogging up the middle (think vince wilfork)

This guys is so strong and massive….he almost wins the push on the Line of Scrimmage everytime….

I’m just hoping his tape from college translates to the NFL

  10. Marine Buc Says:

Swaggy was a joke. A bad joke. I am excited to see Vea dominate. I hope he can stay healthy. 6’4” – 347 pounds. Dude is a beast.

  11. 813bucboi Says:

    teacherman

that’s why im hoping licht stays the course with the offseason trend…..

    @38-will hernandez
    @53-DE or OT
    @56- S or CB

continue to build inside out!!!!!…..the front 7 will make the secondary all bowlers this year!!!!!!

    #NOEXCUSESIN2018!!!!!….GO BUCS!!!!!

  12. ManzielMadness Says:

Hernandez, Jackson, Oliver, Landry all available… some good picks left.

  13. 813bucboi Says:

now GMC can play to his strengths and rush the passer from his DT position and have vita stuff the run….that’s his only job….GMC can do what he does best…..vita can continue to clog up the middle and do what he does best….stuff the run……

    #NOEXCUSESIN2018!!!!!…..GO BUCS!!!!!

  14. Kobe Faker Says:

    Sheep google Danny Shelton

    Vea replaced him in Washington

drafted #12 by Clev and has the same size

3 years 1.5 sacks run stopper…we could have had traded Shelton from Clev for a 4th rounder

lets seee what Forrest does today. He might surprise…i doubt it though

the 1st round Vea is a BUST…**look at my past evaluations

hmmm our rivals picked up Davenport, Moore and Ridley ….Playmakers

    what a concept!

    Kobe the Parrot

  15. mark2001 Says:

Kobe…need to do a little more homework. Lake, his coach in Washington, said he is Shelton with wheels…if Shelton is the 12th pick, Vea should be at least the #5. He is compared by others out there as more like Ngata.

  16. Lord Cornelius Says:

I don’t need to google Danny Shelton because I’ve already read countless comparisons and explanations from Scouts saying Vea is on another planet compared to Shelton as a prospect.

    Just look at the combine:

    Shelton ran a freaking 5.64 40 with a 1.9 10 yard split

Vea ran a 5.1 while tweaking his hammy with a 1.77 10 yard split. Has been clocked at 20 MPH supposedly in games; and there is tape of him chasing down WRs down the field.

Vea also benched 41 reps vs 34 for Shelton

Vea also was a f*cking running back in highschool lol and is in a different world of natural athleticism

    Lazy comparison. I’m dissapoint Kobe.

  17. Blake_Bucsfan Says:

    Kobe Faker

You are just proving to everyone how simple you really are.

    https://bleacherreport.com/articles/2418358-danny-shelton-breaking-down-washington-dts-pro-day-workout

Look at this picture of Shelton with no pads on. Compare his Build to Vea’s. Compare Sheltons tape at UW to Vea’s.

They aren’t even close to being the same caliber of Athlete. Shelton was a reach by a horrible pre-John Dorsey Browns front office.

Vea, without even considering that we got 2 premium picks from the bills to move down 5 spots, is well worth his draft status. 2 more DT’s picked at #12 over-all, Warren Sapp & Haloti Ngata, Vea may very well end up being a perfect blend of those 2 guys.

  18. Wausa Says:

If the Bucs draft Hernandez, Corbett or Smith at Guard I would expect the Bucs to cut JR Sweezy after June 1st.

  19. Marine Buc Says:

    @LordCorn – Nice post. Vea > Shelton.

  20. firethecannons Says:

Man–kudos to Jason Licht–entire NFL community trying to make us take Derwin James at 7–he got 2 extra draft piks in the 2nd and man beast Vita Vea. Derwin James hits hard and likely to bring on penalties and additional injuries to hisself.

I liked Davenport too but dam can’t believe the Saints gave away next years first round

So pleased with this development–FIX THE TRENCHES
    Go Bucs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  21. TOM Says:

Great night for the Bucs. Keep it going. CB or Hernandez next. Welcome to the Bucs family Via.

  22. Not there yet Says:

Seems like an upgrade over Baker? Why is anyone even talking Baker? He was upgraded in free agency, he was upgraded before free agency when he was cut which is really what dramatically improved or roster

  23. Kobe Faker Says:

    LOL

the comparisons are dead on …they are EXACT clones

DT 40 yard time? V shape lats? LOL

both their strengths and weaknesses are the EXACT same

    Kobe the Parrot

  24. Bucsfanman Says:

Kobe- Just for reference, the Saints gave up 2 first round picks for Davenport. So, just how smart are those Saints again?!
Stop your belly-aching! Most pundits thought that both Davenport AND Moore were “reaches”. At least Vea was in line with where most had him going.

  25. vince picolo Says:

two of the second round pics will be secondary, the 3rd a RB IMO. OL can always use help, but Koetter thinks we’re decent there. Secondary and RB are our personnel weaknesses, by far, now.

  26. Doctor_berto Says:

He doesn’t hit hard and play with a mean streak. Every hit or tackle I’ve seen was a glancing blow. Dirk said he was sold when the Washington coach said he’s the type of guy you want your daughter to marry. I don’t wanna hear that, I wanna hear that he has to be chained up at night due to his violent nature.

  27. Doctor_berto Says:

Nicest interior d line in NFL

  28. Marine Buc Says:

Wow. I am a little bit surprised by the number of trolls currently trying to be negative about what we accomplished last night. We totally scored you fools!!! Vea is a beast and will a solid player barring injury plus we picked up two more second round picks. Shut the f#*k up and get the f#*k out of here.

  29. Blake_Bucsfan Says:

Shelton is made of jiggly jelly, Vea is made of muscle.

Just like an intelligent individuals brain is made of white and grey matter, and your brain is made of mush.

Every prediction you’ve made this offseason has been wrong Kobe, and you continuing that trend with this lazily made comparison.

  30. Lord Cornelius Says:

Um a .51 difference in a 40 time is insane. 10 yard split difference is huge.

That’s called explosion and mobility that Shelton didn’t have at all.

Or does a DT running a 4.5 mean nothing vs a DT running a 6.0?

lol @ that not meaning anything. But double down in your ignorance my liege.

  31. Kobe Faker Says:

    @bucsfanman

we signed (overpaid) 2 defensive tackles few months ago….no need to get and waste a valuable 1st pick

**Only the buc realist would actually think this way

Yes, Saints paid alot but you overshoot for a edge pass rusher

*Dj Moore has rated by alot of peeps as top wr

    lets fill those holes today!

we need playmakers…thats what this game is all about now

    speed and making plays

  32. Steven007 Says:

Faker, your double digit IQ is showing. You could time Danny Shelton with a freakin’ sundial. Vea had nearly the same 40 time as GMC. Don’t be so simplistic to think that because they’re both of Samoan heritage they’re the same player.

  33. Bucsfanman Says:

Kobe- I agree about getting playmakers but don’t overlook the fact that we also got younger on that line too.
I disagree about Davenport. 2 first rounders for a small-school “project”? Would you have done the same for Spence? Who had more experience and the same upside?
    I don’t think you would.
I think today is when we hit the “fun” part of the draft. RB, OG, DB, who knows?! We’ve got 3 picks.

  34. Mark2001 Says:

Playmaker…Playmaker? Must be kidding. Except for running back, we are loaded. And to compare Vea to Shelton? You must be loaded.

  35. Lord Cornelius Says:

I hope Davenport is a huge bust now lol.

Dude was manhandling high school kids basically in terms of level of competition but his measurable”s are beastly.

Don’t rule out us taking a DE still. Sam Hubburd if in R2 but would love if Ejiofor somehow fell to R4.

    CB-Joshua Jackson
    RB-Ronald Jones II
    OG-Austin Corbett
    DE-Duke Ejiofor

My god that’d be a haul and trench warfare would be on.

Also 2019 I think has a better group of top end DEs that would be an upgrade for us.

  36. feelthepewterpower Says:

We had Brate…does that mean you pass up the best tight end since Rob gronkowski? No way. There is room for both players. Same with Vea….hes the best dt in this draft and has a huge ceiling if he develops his technique as a pass rusher which he will now be in a good enviro to do so….

I’d take oliver with the first pick. Okornkwo from Oklahoma at defensive end (maybe trade the last second rounder and grab him in the third?) and the dline will be set up really g
for the near future. Trade up late third and get John Kelly.

  38. Frank Pillow Says:

We should all be sick and tired of getting mauled at the point of attack and physically outmatched by teams. Credit to Licht here for doing an honest evaluation of this roster’s constitution. The FA signings, JPP trade and this pick are all about being able to start dictating play at the point of attack. Keep at it Jason- Hernandez is there- pair him with a pair of CBS an RB and this draft will be a resounding success.

  39. 813bucboi Says:

    LC

    I hope davenport is a bust too!!!!!…lol…..

I hope licht continues the offseason trend with the trenches…..

    OG-#38
    DE or OT-#53
    S or CB-#56

bo scarbrough or k.johnson in the 4th…..cut sweezy and sign cj Anderson or eric reid…..

    #NOEXCUSESIN2018!!!!…GO BUCS!!!!!

  40. 2nd11none Says:

Lets go get Will Hernadez if heres there with the 1st pick in 2nd round. Then GET A CB OR RB WITH THOSE OTHER TWO PICK AT 53 AND 56

  41. Lord Cornelius Says:

I really like Joshua Jackson. Possibly the best CB in the class.

Oliver has the upside to be the best CB in the class.

Both are rangy and have size and can play outside.

But I’d be fine with a RB there or WIll Hernandez. Hard to f*ck up 38. What’s difficult to predict is who will be there at 53/56

  42. Buc believer Says:

LMAO!!! Stud Dt Geraldine McCoy! We will see what a “stud” he is after this year when he STILL sucks! This time though there are NO excuses! I can’t freeking wait!

  45. hoover923 Says:

I certainly HOPE he’s better than Swaggy. Jeez, that’s a low bar. I’m sure he will be, but it seems like a throwaway headline.
