Scratch Aaron Colvin

March 13th, 2018

Gone.

A guy Joe lusted for is off the market.

Jags cornerback Aaron Colvin apparently is prepared to ink a four-year deal with the cornerback-hungry Texans, types Michael David Smith of Pro Football Talk.

Joe has just one word to say. “Damn.”

It would have been fantastic for the Bucs to grab a guy from the punishing Jags defense.

Yes, the Bucs signed Brent Grimes but they also need to sign a starting corner. Until proven otherwise, Joe has zero trust the current defensive coaching staff can develop a rookie corner. So drafting a corner, again, with the current defensive staff in place, is akin to burning a valuable draft pick, a total waste.

I’m beginning to think there are just too many holes, at impact positions, to fill in a single off-season.

The GM sitting on his hands sure doesn’t help.. 24 hours from now we will have a better understanding of Licht’s competence.

  2. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Who wants any of these pieces of $hit players anyway…..they are all money hungry bums…..and if our young CBs fail to take direction…..cut them….

I’m getting sick and tired of all of these players being paraded in front of us like pieces of meat….lets just go with our current crop of losers and by all means get rid of the good ones so we can tank for the best DE next year.

  3. TeddyTB Says:

I guess their gonna sign Gaines from the Bills since Houston was considering him. If we sign him he better be amazing. Being a bucs fan is too stressful

  4. Tampabaybucfan Says:

And while we are at it….let’s bring back ASJ….we need another TE and I hear he is sober.

  5. Tampabaybucfan Says:

I’m having fun ranting and raving like Tmax……this is fun!!!

  6. AlteredEgo Says:

“zero trust the current defensive coaching staff can develop a rookie corner.”
chicken or the egg…..pass rush or corner backs….it is not rocket science ….it is all about talent…that and for whatever reason…and that would be a good story….why top FA’s are not interested in the Bucs…we’ll know soon enough

  7. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Let’s give Mark Dominick another shot…..I’m sure he’s learned a lot from his previous mistakes and they were far too many to mention……it seems like every time Joe brings up a failure…..there is an attachment to Dominatrix.

  8. Bird Says:

    Teddy tb

You are right. We were in running with Texans for ej Gaines. Probably will be a buc then !

  9. DB55 Says:

Lol, joe luv you guys but you’re funny.

First ask yourself is the player a tier 3 FA? Then ask does he suck? If yes to both then anticipate the player signing with the Bucs. If no to both then say bye bye.

  10. Tampabaybucfan Says:

I’m starting to hope Winston gets suspended……It will help us to secure a higher draft pick next year and save us some money on his new contract. Besides….I’m enamored by the Harvard to Harvard connection.

  11. JimmyJack Says:

If the talent is there you must draft a corner. If Licht doesn’t trust the coaches he should have fired them, not work around inability.

And if you’re right Joe then you still draft one if the value is true. This coaching staff will get fired if they can’t do their job and the next staff doesn’t need a bare roster.

  12. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Where is Tmax….my fingers are getting tired….except the middle one which I am saving for him.

  13. GhostofSchiano Says:

mike10 Says: 24 hours from now we will have a better understanding of Licht’s competence.

Did you mean his incompetence? You are right, in 24 hours Licht either proves he is competent or incompetent.

  14. Lord Cornelius Says:

I wasn’t really that high on this guy. Would prefer Gaines/Fuller/a few others

    CB market is pretty deep

  15. JimmyJack Says:

And if that’s the case you can’t draft a RB either since they can’t develope them. I saw one episode of that HBO show and they showed our RB coach and I didn’t like his style personally.

  16. JimmyJack Says:

Oh wait they developed Barber? I’d say he still has some proving to do.

  17. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Whoops….he’s gone…..oh no, there goes that one……uh oh, not that one either….well, we lost him…..adios to that CB…..say goodbye to that Olineman…..this is starting to get comical.

  18. Joeypoppems Says:

Scratch Breshaud Breeland as well. Just agreed to a deal with the Panthers

  19. AlteredEgo Says:

    LOL…some great one liners ^^^^

  20. Tampabaybucfan Says:

How about dialing us up when we actually pick up a player…..it may be after training camp but lets just save the good news for later.

  21. Joeypoppems Says:

They NEED to add a CB in FA

  22. GhostofSchiano Says:

    Tampabaybucfan Says:

I’m having fun ranting and raving like Tmax……this is fun!!!

If you are going to rant rave like Tmax it is more like this –

GMC sucks, Cancer93, soft mentality, cut GMC, trade Cancer93, It’s all Cancer93’s fault, GMC soft like marshmallow, all the worlds problems are Gerald McCoy’s fault, Cancer93…………..etc.etc.etc.etc.

  23. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    Let’s trade GMC for a ham sandwich….or better yet a Cuban sandwich…..

Players!!! We don’t want any stinking players!!!

  24. SteveK Says:

    TampaBayBucFan,

Preach! I love reading your rant posts. Keep on trucking, very frustrating times to be. Buc fan.

Will our #11 overall pick, Heargraves, turn the corner?

Will our #1 overall pick get suspended next year?

If we are going to suck, suck to the fullest extent and ensure a shot to draft the best DE out there.

I have a bad feeling at #7 this year, we are going to miss out on one of Saquon, Chubb, or Nelson.

With our luck, we will draft a safety who doesn’t live up to expectations because our pass rush sucks donkey balls.

  25. Bucs55 Says:

There goes Breeland to the panthers smh wake up light

  26. Blake_Bucsfan Says:

Meanwhile Jason Licht is celebrating about resigning Adarius Glanton.

I honestly don’t understand how a GM who seems to be rather competent in the draft can be so pitifully dreadful in free agency.

  27. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Tmax is probably breastfeeding his triplets right now…..one is SOL.

  28. SOEbuc Says:

They better make big trades. Glazers will not open the vault to this 5-11 team. Returning players getting paid means another average/bad FA signings.

  29. JJV Says:

Let’s sign some Manchester United players.

  30. Tampabaybucfan Says:

It feels fun to hijack JBF…..now I know how Tmax feels…..it is exhilarating!!!

  31. Tampabaybucfan Says:

  32. Eric Says:

    Mark Dominic got married?

  33. doolnutts Says:

Ian Rapport is reporting Breeland to Panthers on a 4 year contract so he is gone as well.

  34. SteveK Says:

Sad we didn’t make a play for Breeland.

Our CBs outside of Grimes are meh to putrid.

Pass rush? What’s that? 12 years since we had a 10+sacker.

    #ItsASacklessLife!

  35. chargedcbh Says:

At this point I would be more excited being a Browns fan! Seriously, I’m still holding out hope they have something major planned but I am not confident.

  36. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Let’s trade all of our draft picks this year for Barkley….and all of our draft picks next year for Chubb……then hunt like hell for the best UDFAs.

  37. GhostofSchiano Says:

Would love to have had Breeland.

  38. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Ok guys, I tried to rant & rave like Tmax…..except for one problem….my mind is at least good enough to rant about more than one subject.

I simply don’t know how he does that….I’m thinking he has some sort of robotic posting software….that post the GMC stuff automatically whether she is at her computer or not…..

Tmax must be a female (no offense Life of a Buc Fan, or others)…..because he either is or is someone else’s bitch.”

  40. SteveK Says:

I hope we sign another CB and grab a d lineman or two. We need some damn help!

  41. Chris Says:

If you honestly cant see the problem with signing tier one free agents to supplement the roster with whomever we draft, especially with Lichts hit or miss in the draft I feel for you Tampabay. This is in no way comical, watching what I and most of us saw on the field last year. Its one thing to lose because of talent, but to lose because you have no heart…its another. This team and its lack of desire has taken the love of football away from me. Im no longer fanatic about watching these guys play….especially with the same rostet, unchanged.

  42. JJV Says:

At least we have the draft to look forward to. So there is still hope for the Bucs.

  43. Alaskan Abdominal Snowman Says:

A.J. Bouye > A. Colvin all day. That’s a Bucs like move, sign a nickel back (probably at a high price) when you need outside corners. Good job Texans.

Not dissapointed in missing out on this guy. Fuller, T. Johnson, Breeland are all better. Would even rather have R. Melvin back.

Well there are always the releases after the draft and those sent packing after the final 53 rosters in August….

  46. Lamarcus Says:

Trolling Tampa Baybuc fan. Hipocrite!!! Much

  47. 813bucboi Says:

damn….I wasn’t that high on breeland but didn’t want to see him in our division…..

I hope licht has a good game plan……no urgency….no excuses!!!!

    #NOEXCUSESIN2018!!!!!….GO BUCS!!!!!

  48. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    @ Chris

Don’t you know sarcasm when you see it?

Sure, many players are gone….but the last time I checked, there are a few out there……I’ll be very disappointed if we don’t bring in at least 3 good player in FA.

  49. Mike Evans GOAT Says:

Packer release Jordy Nelson, sign jimmy Graham

  50. JimmyJack Says:

I’m not understanding this free agency process…..I though almost all these players couldn’t sign til tomorrow.

Are we even interviewing anybody? Now I’m getting mad…..Joe on Joe tell us what you are seeing with your binoculars inside the bushes across from Ole One Buc…….Licht has got to be bringing in somebody.

Dang it I jus5 thought of something. What if Licht is a tester of emailer. No wonde4 he always strikes out in FA. Face to face matters dude. OMG what the heck is this gu6 doing!!M!!!m I’m freaking out!!.,,,,

  51. JimmyJack Says:

    Texter*

  52. AlteredEgo Says:

JJ…there is a 3 day open season before actual ink to paper…

  53. Dusthty Rhothdes Says:

could be these players do not want to come to this sinking ship with the HC amd the uncertainty on his and GM future

  54. Mike Evans GOAT Says:

Lol now the ej Gaines report has been said to be false. Prolly not gonna happen. Also McKinnon wants $7-8 mil per year. SF likely to sign him.

  55. Lamarcus Says:

    Jimmyjack

Licht doesn’t think we had a talent problem but a Jay Hayes problem. No need for skilled pass rushers. They are already on the team

  56. Mike Evans GOAT Says:

Failclowns wr Taylor Gabriel to sign with bears

  57. JimmyJack Says:

Altered….I have clearly spent too much time on this website. People were freaking out when Quin and Bennett got traded and I laws laughing. Then Talib and a few other moves happened and people were freaking out and I maintained a cool demeanor……But now there’s more players signing and the freaking out has gotten to me.

I’m officially in panic mode. If the Bucs don’t make a move in the next 24 hours you may just see me on the 6 o’clock news…..For now this brown bag is helping.

  58. Guzzie Says:

Sucks watching all these other teams with less cap space then we have trying to improve their team, while our GM is doing backflips over resigning our 5-11 players from last year, Fing idiot

  59. JimmyJack Says:

Lamarcus….I think their main focus is getting a DT and fixing the rush defense first.

I would love for them to sign a Poe and pair him with Mo or maybe even Peppers but I don’t think that’s likely.

I think pass rush will still be a weakness on this team next year but also think we can be OK if it’s not horrible and we can address the DBs. Getting a running game and an off3nse that gives us leads should also help our passrush, not only to stay fresh but in making the other team one dimensional.

  60. GhostofSchiano Says:

JimmyJack Says: For now this brown bag is helping.

We might all need a brown bag this season if we strike out (again) in FA. Especially if attending the game.

  61. AlteredEgo Says:

JJ…I am anxious too….my wish list is the best center and OG…but that is slipping according to other www that show them leaning elsewhere but I am still hopeful, this would allow Ali to move to guard….that pretty much leaves Suh…I have mixed feelings based on his history….BUT no doubt Suh and McCoy next to each other would free up the edges…..I really want a draft with a RB early and the balance defense

  62. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    @JimmyJack

Don’t panic….I hear that Licht is so happy with his UDFA success (Brate, Humphries, Barber, Elliott, Hey Jude, Auclair, Griffin and others and now especially Glanton….he’s so happy he is putting all his faith in this year’s crop of UDFA…..the Glazers are excited about this plan to save huge on future caps.

  63. Tampabaybucfan Says:

The simple fact is that there isn’t the talent in FA or even in the draft to immediately fix our pass rush. We can improve our defense greatly by addressing DT, CB & S. We should be able to make improvements there.

On the offense….if we can pick up a guard or center or both and a RB…..we should be good to go there. Another 4 TEs would help. (sarcasm Chris)

  64. SOEbuc Says:

    Jags got Norwell

  65. Frank Pillow Says:

We are the 31 or 32 option for most of these guys, even $. Small market, hot as hell, an abysmal historical winning %, garish uniforms, a HC named Dirk and a GM that cant seem to put a roster together. Oh wait there’s Mike Smith.

  66. TeddyTB Says:

I hear the glazers are hosting an event for Donald Trump at their home. Maybe they’re too busy with that to get Free agents.

  67. JJ Says:

Everyone says we need a pass rush (and we do). But it doesn’t matter if we lined up Bruce Smith, Ed too tall Jones, Howie Long and Lawrence Taylor as our front four, Mike Smith plays corners 10-15 yards off the line and that slant, swing pass, 5 yard curl take less than 2 seconds to complete. Sh*tty Smitty will not change his scheme. He is cancer! Dirks play calling and play designs are a close second, I’m so defeated that no changes were made other than Jay Hayes whom Smitty hung out to dry with his DB coverage. I’ll say it again, how did our DB coach survive not being fired. BTW our special teams looked like Special Ed. He kept his job too. Smdh!!!

  68. AlteredEgo Says:

Patience folks….time is running out and the Buc make their worst decisions when panicking….coming soon…

  69. JimmyJack Says:

TBBF….I respectfully have to disagree. That depends on how you define “fix the pass rush”. The way I see it when Joe says passrush(what passrush?) he is correct. We have none.

Can we fix it where it will be a strength? Probably not. But there’s no way you can convince me we can’t do anything to improve, or fix, our passrush.

We have to be able to at least generate some amount of pressure. At the very least on obvisous passing down. At least some of the time. This team went entire games with hardly any pressure. There’s gotta be a way to fix that IMO. Anything less is incompetence and should not be tolerated.

  70. JimmyJack Says:

JJ….We won a Super Bowl playing in a soft zone defense. Just sayin

  71. donuts Says:

This is all part of “the plan”……………………………………………………………….. to make our Bucs look like a CFL team. We are on our way baby! To the CFL playoffs.

  72. JJ Says:

JJ-true almost 15 years ago- the defense have adjusted and we mixed it up, bump and run, soft zone, bump and run and there is this thing called a blitz we ran with our safety, CBs and various LBs. nobody knew where we were coming from. I know you know this, I read your posts.

  73. Tampabaybucfan Says:

I often relieve my depression by expressing extreme optimism…..insane optimism….my therapist said that it isn’t harmful but I should not get anywhere close to the Sunshine Skyway Bridge or Mark Dominick when it’s active.

  74. SOEbuc Says:

F#ck this. BUCS ARE GONNA GET TWO DOMINATE FA, ONE/TWO BIG TRADES, GOOD PLAYERS IN THE DRAFT!!!

GO BUCS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 2018 SUPER BOWL LIII CHAMPIONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WE LOVE YOU DIRK!!!!!!!!! WE LOVE YOU JASON!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! WE LOVE YOU GLAZER KIDS!!!!!!!!!!

  75. JJ Says:

Poe, Curry, Jensen and Gaines would do it for me SOE😜

  76. SB Says:

Panthers reportedly about to sign Breeland……….Jeeeeeesh are we missing out!

  77. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    @ JimmyJack

So….who are your suggestions in the draft?…..Won’t get Chubb…..Davenport at 7 would be a reach….so, we are down to 2nd round and beyond….I don’t see immediate help there.
I have been a proponent of Peppers in FA….that would help but I don’t see options there.
If you reread my post you will see by fix, I meant immediate impact players.
I do think our pass rush can be improved with a healthy Spence and a stronger middle. Better corners with a more aggressive scheme would also actually help the pass rush somewhat…..

  78. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Does anyone know what happened to 87?…..Did he change names?……we need him to help get us through this.

  79. SB Says:

Howdy TBBF my friend!! I was wondering the same thing about 87. He does not seem like the type to change his name unless he was banned like me. I have asked Joe SEVERAL times to give my my name back but alas, it seems like it is not to be. No probs though really though, I am cool with who I am to you guys. I hope all is well with you and yours as I do with 87 too.

  80. AlteredEgo Says:

SB what was your old name….?…I have one too…but if I type it my post with show as waiting for moderation….

  81. mike10 Says:

Pats are making a strong push for Suh lol… o boy

  82. SB Says:

Altered……..My original name is like Voldermort………You can’t even type it.

  83. JimmyJack Says:

JJ……Yeah good point. But I’ll say I don’t mind Mike Smiths defense. I just don’t like it on this team when we don’t have the front four he needs to make it work.

  84. AlteredEgo Says:

mike 10….the Pats are playing Storage Wars….making the Bucs over bid on an empty locker 🙂

  85. SB Says:

    @ Altered…………g_a_t_r_b_u_c_17

  86. Rod Munch Says:

Josh McCown got $10million from the Jets… seriously? Wow. I don’t know the numbers on Fitz but I’m guessing he’s around $5million, and while I’m not the biggest Fitz fan I like him more than I like McCown. Wow…

  87. SOEbuc Says:

Stay singing my sad song. Love you with all my heart LVD, but “it’s a business” (biggest BS term for whoever gives me the most money). Huge trade for LVD and Roquan Smith at #7. Getting good/very good player(s) and picks with a rookie LB that every scout and GM have all compared him to be the next LVD.

“Smith led the team in the 2017 season with 137 total tackles, 14 tackles for loss and six and a half sacks.”

  88. Tampabaybucfan Says:

    @SB

I knew who you were from your posts…..the gun totin’ State you come from was a clue.
Surely, 87 would show himself somehow…..I hope something bad hasn’t happened to him….and I don’t recall him being permanently banned although I know he had been banned before and warned.
I learned my lesson when I was put in the “cooler” not fun for someone who loves this site. I hit a nerve…..and won’t do that again.

  89. Mike Evans GOAT Says:

Malcom to the titans. SMH. But they paid him WAY TOO MUCH. $12M a year

  90. Joeypoppems Says:

yea CB was the only kinda deep position group in FA this year and it seems to be running dry very quick

  91. Lord Cornelius Says:

Damn yeah Butler at $12 mill .. not sure if that’s great value really. We’ll see.

Breeland/Butler were all guys I liked.

EJ Gaines / Melvin / someone like that is likely who we sign in addition to McClain. Maybe they grab a CB in the draft too.

D-line/O-line is still what I want to see added to more than anything. I wish we had more draft picks 🙁

  92. JimmyJack Says:

TBBF….I’m just saying that I don’t think the passrush has to be as awful as it was last year reguardless of wether we sign a big time player or not.

There is just no excuse to have a line gets stood up and dominated outside the pocket every third and long. I’m not saying there are a ton of options to make passrush a strength. But I do think we can fix it where they can find ways to generate pressure at a higher rate then we saw last year.

Just going by memory in the last game of the year our passrush put a mild amount of pressure on Drew Brees most of the game. In the last two drives we got there a little and forced him to step up into the pocket to avoid some edge pressure. One time he threw the ball away which helped end a drive the other Clinton McDonald made a lateral move and recorded a sack on third down. Our passrush was not great in that game but they impacted the game and made a difference.

However, in at least ten games last year they were completely ineffective and made no impact. Just getting a line that can consistently play like they did in the Saints game and make impact week in and out would be huge. I would consider that a fix and I believe it doesn’t have to be a huge big named guys to do it.

Of course that plan would see the GM make some smart moves in FA, an area that the fan base has lost trust in.

  93. Lord Cornelius Says:

    Ryan Jensen
    Sheldon richardson
    EJ Gaines

We do those 3 and I’m pretty f*cking happy. We could spend like $30ish mill on them and be fine next year to extend a bunch of our own when we cut Ayers/Gholston/Djax/Grimes/Sweezy ($40 mill in savings)

Trade back in the draft and rebuild the defensive front 7 while adding a CB/RB. Live one more year with Sweezy at G but draft one late.

  94. StPeteBucsFan Says:

I love Buc fans…football fans…sports fans…we are so mercurial and can change on a dime.

So today we are all up in arms with the pitchforks at the ready for Licht and the Glazers. Not even a mention of an FA. Everybody angry and depressed.

What’s funny though is how silly it all is. If the Bucs signed Suh on Thursday what would the weekend look like.

We’d all be off the other deep end….The Bucs have proved they’re serious…finally a BOLD move…we’re going to have the best DL in the league.

I think Suh MIGHT be a good addition…but just like DJAX didn’t change the offense overnight…Suh wouldn’t turn our DL into the “Fearsome Foursome” or the “Purple People Eaters”…but he would make us better and it’s fun trying to imagine how much better.

  95. JJV Says:

Scot Brantley once said a turd is a turd no matter how much you try to polish it’s appearance up. A losing 5-11 team is a turd. You don’t try to kept it all mostly the same while polishing it up to us dumb fans that will happily buy increased priced tickets for the 2018 season. What a joke.

  96. Buc4life Says:

Omg the bucs didn’t sign a FA who we’d be complaining about this time next year as a bust!…we have no chance next year…fire EVERYONE!

  97. JimmyJack Says:

And don’t be so quick to think Chubb won’t be avialable. It seems likely 4 QBs go before us. Barkley will also go before us. That leaves one pick and if it’s the Giants they are most likely getting Nelson. If Chubb does go I would want Nelson second.

If 4 QBs go I’ll be happy. If not Licht is likely fighting off trade offers.

  98. SB Says:

Nice to hear TBBF……….I am sure I may rub Joe wrong again but not enough to get banned again. I would like to converse with 87 again as well. NosBos is not around anymore either. He got Married and had a “moderation” problem with the Joes so he gave up. I will have him back here next yr. though I promise! 🙂

  99. Rod Munch Says:

When I play Madden franchise mode I turn off the option where you can get fired, then I sit out free agency, maybe signing a guy or two on the cheap in the last period of free agency if there’s a really good deal, then I get to the draft and constantly trade down to build up picks then just sim the season to get to the next year where I do it again and again… I do that for maybe 4-5 years then I have this amazing young team and a ton of draft picks, best offensive line in the league, best WR, best QB, best TE, best defensive line, etc etc etc. I’ve won like 35 Super Bowls in the last 50 years of siming. The Glazers should really hire me, I’m a proven commodity.

  100. JimmyJack Says:

Wasn’t Sheldon Richardson cut by two teams now? Not jumping on board with that love affair. I’ll take Poe.

  101. JimmyJack Says:

As ridicilous as that sounds Rod. You’re free agent Madden track record can’t be much worse the Lichts.

  102. SCBucsFan Says:

You don’t make a good team thru FA, you improve a good team. Bucs have too many holes. Get a good player or two but need to draft better. I’d love Solder and the above CBs.

  103. Drew aka q Says:

Joe you get yourself all worked up…. no one wants to play in tampa because our GM sucks as well as our head coach… damn shame that the browns are more respected

  104. El_Buc941 Says:

Sell the team!!sell the team!!sell the team!!!

  105. Rod Munch Says:

    Now Jenna Laine is saying…

“Rough calculation of Bucs’ salary cap space is around $49 million, according to ESPN Roster Management. That includes new deals for Mike Evans, Cameron Brate, Brent Grimes, Ryan Fitzpatrick, Adarius Glanton and Peyton Barber.”

That doesn’t include the $3m for Hump, so that would be $46. I estimated with Hump we were at $44 and said that could be off by a couple million mainly because I don’t know what Fitz got but I figured he got a raise from last years $3.3-mi to $5-m, but it sounds like maybe he didn’t. If Fitz only got $3m and McCown got $10m… wow.

So again figure $8-10 million on the rookie cap (leaving flexibility for trades) and the Bucs still easily have over $30 million to actual spend. Yes they can roll over some cap to next year, but they also could sign people this year and actually try to win. If Licht decides to roll over most of that money then I’m sure the new GM next year will be thankful to him.

  106. JimmyJack Says:

SCB…..I agree. Looking at all things the biggest problem facing the Bucs is that freaking passrush still. There is just nothing to build on via draft.

That’s why I like the idea of a bandaid player. Mo,Peppers on a short deal. Next years is supposted to be deep with passrushers, at least I heard that much.

  107. Rod Munch Says:

JimmyJack – My batting average in Madden FA mode is fantastic since I never overpay for anyone, I only get guys that are desperate at the end of free agency and lock them into long term deals if they’re young and any good, or I sign them to one and done deals. One thing Madden really needs to add is the way the Bucs do contracts, where you don’t give signing bonuses and front load deals so you can cut them later with no impact on the cap. If they add that and I never get into salary cap hell I can up my victory count to like 42 Super Bowls in 50 years.

  108. Easy Says:

Who cares about Aaron freaking Colvin?? Their is a reason Biuye was signed and RNsey started over him. That guy is an average corner

  110. SOEbuc Says:

If they stay at seven, they must be really hoping for Minkah to play CB for them. Or If we could make the trade with Buffalo or another round two pick, get one of the top four (Jackson, Ward, C. Davis, Hughes). I would love to get Minkah. He’s apparently a team leader and I don’t think he’s gonna pull a Ryan Smith. He’s gonna ball at either CB or SS. Two needed positions.

  111. Rod Munch Says:

Easy – If he’s just an “average” corner that would be a huge upgrade over what they have now at #2. I think the Bucs would be quite happy with that.

  112. tmaxcon Says:

at this rate building through the draft Winston will be on Social Security before all the holes can be filled.

bucs suck at all aspects of the game free agency, drafting, developing players, game day management etc etc etc… at the pace they are going it will be 2030 before they field a team that goes 9-7

16 years not a single meaningful win and it’s looking at minimum of another 5 to 6 years to achieve .500 go bucs meanwhile teams with competent front offices are building rosters to keep bucs in the basement.

there is not a single D lineman in the draft that will help bucs with pass rush. no chance at chubb and all the rest of de are projects…

Someone would need to tell me why anyone would want to come here. People that come to Tampa come to retire and that includes our free agent acquisitions.
Come to Tampa, don’t work too hard, make a lot of money.

It’s in the culture that has been developed. No one is safe on the Lightning. That’s the way it should be here. But alas, fear guides the choices that are made. We have spent 4 years building the offense and what have you got, a center that has been moved from his all-pro status to a position where he has become average. You have an excess of talent at the receiving corp. Evens could have been moved to solve your pass rushing problems and maybe a 2nd round pick in addition. I doubt if anyone would give you much for our fearless leader, whom I see as an average QB. However if I could get a mid 1st rounder, he would be gone. If you want talent, you need to give talent. A win-win for both teams. We, on the other hand, want a difference maker but use as trade bait someone that would not be picked up off the waiver wired. Face it, we are mired in mediocrity from ownership down.

Give me Suh, Poe, and Jensen. Draft a RB,CB,Safety with you top 3 picks. There is your pass rush fix and your offensive fix. Run a 3-4 with Poe in between McCoy and Suh put Noah as your pass rush specialist job. David on the other side for blitz packages with kwon and Kendall in the middle. Sure we the up a bunch of money on the D-Line but it’s not my.money and it’s o my for 2-3 years max because of all their ages. But that’s your all in plan.

Without doing a ton of homework I’m certain the core of almost every SuperBowl team was built in the draft.

I’m starting to get the same feeling this year with Bradley Chubb that I got last year with Dalvin Cook around this time.

I think he could be there at #7, unless somebody trades up in front of the Bucs for him.

There is a good chance 4 QBs go in the Top 5. Even tho the Browns, Broncos, and Jets are getting QBs in FA, they are still in play to draft one too. Plus the Bills seem poised to move into the top 5 for a QB. A team will probably, imo, overdraft Barkley in the top 5 as well.

Im not getting my hopes up that it will happen but its not as much of a sure thing as it was a month or two ago.

  139. DanBucsFan Says:

I just renewed my 3 deason tickets at just under 5k, I am going to be cheering loud and proud for my favorite team the BUCS. I am in the minority on this site, as I believe we have a very good young nucleus to build around. I also am not of the mindset like most that our team can be filled in one single offseason, no this is not madden. However, if we can add a few pieces ( draft & free agency) this year I am a believer that we shall see a better product on the field in 2018\19. I am going to stay optimistic with Licht and Dirk at the helm. Imo, add a interior o lineman in free agency, a starting cb, at dt and another rb and we are cooking. Draft bpa @7 and depending how draft falls either de or rb in 2nd round. That leaves rounds 3-7 for depth\ rotation players at positions of need. Hopefully we find a couple diamonds in the rough in mid to late rounds. So in closing , instead of crying about last year & preaveous seasons I choose to look to the future and cant wait to see the team that Licht\ Dirk put together. Go Bucs FIRE THE CANNONS !! See what next years crop of draft picks \ free agents brings as far a d line and pass rushers.

I get the fact that you are over this organization. To quote you “16 years without a meaningful win” , some people live their lives in the past, re living past mistakes or misses. Maybe, just maybe you should start to try and think about upcoming events that can take place. Imo , my good sir, if i felt as you feel I would jump ship and find a dranchise you can be proud of or happy to call your team. I by no means am attacking you or telling you what to do, but as much as you say it’s like insanity for same old Bucs to make same old moves, is it not kind of the same thing for you to do same complaining about the same things? And honestly , there are plenty out here just like you, almost like y’all are burned out by the bucs. Fans can have different opinions, NO DOUBT, but for christ sakes some of you act like the sky is falling over every lil move the team makes, lol. And the lol is more of a symbol, a symbol of how hilarious some Bucs fans really are. 😄

    * Few if any posts I’ve seen lately seem to ring any more true…on the money. No in one “splash” signing when the current coaches and GM in da house/on da payroll. Re-signing the tallest midgets ( I mean no offense, Brent Grimes ) and hoping/praying Winston can pull out of a potential career tailspin ( otherwise you’re chasing after Kissin’ Cousins types for 80+ mill in guarantees ) is about the best one can hope for.

What they’re doing it taking care of their own and sticking to their board. Gonna get okafor and Gaines first thing tomorrow. Notice you don’t hear anything rumors on them. What they’re doing is getting the guys they’ve targeted all along under the age of 28, then moving up for Chubb. Bank on it. Mckinnon Gaines beau okafor and then draft the rest

  161. JimmyJack Says:

    *one more important note

The Glazers also new they wouldn’t get a Quality Headcoach/GM combo when the star of the franchise JW is going to get suspended by the NFL for misconduct. No one in there right mind would take a new job knowing that they might lose their starting QB for 6 games and hope he doesn’t get hurt and lose anymore. This is a win now league and rightfully so, they shouldn’t take the hit this year.

Just another reason why we have the same coaches and GM this year and why the Glazers are not going to sign a lot of big names. They are just keeping the core talent for the next Headcoach/GM next year.

Some like to dwell on the losses and wail in advance. Others like to think like you Dan and be positive and celebrate in advance. I’m in your group Dan. There will be plenty of time to cry in our beer IF and when we lose in ’18. We’re three months into 2018…I’m pretty well over ’17 and not just football wise!!!

It’s so pathetic to see the fan base make excuses for the GM and ownership. I can appreciate optimism but blind optimism is for fools. Not holding them accountable enough is why they continue business as usual. Even the Superbowl champs thought they still could do better but no not the 5-11, cellar dwelling , vomit inducing Tampa Buccaneers! We are a joke and Im about over it. If we don’t improve our team and go the cheap route then I will take a leave from anything Bucs related.
