Bucs A Bunch Of Headcases?

December 25th, 2017

Pinpoints root of errors.

Bucs coach Dirk Koetter let it all hang out yesterday.

There was no need to sugarcoat anything about yesterday’s 22-19 loss to the Stinking Panthers. Good was good, bad was worse.

When Koetter was asked if the Bucs beat themselves, he couldn’t have agreed more.

“Sure, of course,” Koetter said. “I mean, come on. We played hard. We’re doing a lot of good stuff. Our defense in that first half was unbelievable. To hold them running the football like we did today. We sacked them twice. What did our defense give up? Thirteen points in the game? That’s good enough. We give up a special teams touchdown. We turn it over. We lose a turnover by two.

“The same stuff wins football games every week. I mean it’s the same stuff and we’re coming out on the short end. It’s not an effort issue. It’s not a hustle issue. It’s not a physical issue, but they beat us. They beat us fair and square.”

Well, if it is not an effort issue, nor a hustle issue, nor a physical issue, then it must be a head issue, no?

Then Joe thinks of Swaggy Baker blowing off GMC’s direct orders and jumping offsides, and yeah, it’s a head issue.

Sad to see the team at the doorstep of the end zone multiple times and field goals, have to come up with some shifts or diguises rather than same formation 4 wide empty backfield and all guys running to the end zone straight. It’s too simple to defend. And what the heck happened to the dunkaneer play like idk why Evans and Winston can’t get on the same page with that 5 yard line back shoulder fade to the corner W/O the Evans push off or the pass being completely not in the place Evans was going? That’s BS because ME13 is still capable even injured to beat a shorter DB if they just get that down. If I was the coach even though I don’t have the football X’s and O’s I would just force everybody at the goal line and red zone and play football offense vs defense for an hour 4 times a week.

  2. OneBuC55 Says:

The Hard Knocks jinx strikes again…

Hopefully we use this high draft position to fix our biggest problem; LT…Imho Offensive and Defensive line play are the root of our problems…we can’t protect the passer or rush the passer consistently…until we can make significant improvements in the trenches, we will continue to suck…

  3. TheBucsAnthem Says:

Fatty Baker and Mike Smith are both giving themselves high fives

  4. Architek Says:

Baker should be deactivated effective immediately.

  5. OneBuC55 Says:

In the case of Swaggy the signs were there before we signed him; he’s not a practice guy and his effort on game day in general was inconsistent imo…to give him a big contract and expect him be lights out for us was just careless…Personally, I wasn’t excited about the signing when it happened; I would have rather kept Akeem Spence…

  6. Defense Rules Says:

BucsAnthem, so Fatty Baker jumps offsides after being warned about that exact situation and Mike Smith is jubilant? Seriously doubt that’s the case. ANYBODY but Baker would’ve helped our DLine more this year … ANYBODY. But instead, Licht goes fire-sale & orders up one Fatty Baker to go. Stop blaming Smitty for the lack of DLine talent to work with. And Secondary talent for that matter. The defense that I saw yesterday gave up 15 points despite being given some terrible field positions to start with. That should’ve been good enough to win. But the fact is that you win or lose as a T-E-A-M. At least this Bucs’ T-E-A-M is still fighting. That says a LOT for the coaches too.

  7. Architek Says:

Hopefully Licht goes and get young guys or vets that fit the lockeroom and bring value because these clowns (Baker and Ward and Jackson) man have too much entitlement and not elite production to justify the baggage they carry.

  8. dmatt Says:

Same buc channel, same buc time, same ole buc thing…would’ve, should’ve, could’ve. The OL is garbage starting with DSmith. He’s soft as tissue every week a new DE just bull rush n or run around him with ease. Beno plays like a sucker at right tackle, he’s not ready for the big dogs. Y is DMartin in the field… he’s a bust n a waste. Despite of his catches for 100 yards, ME is soft n not a game changer as he claims to be. He wines, complains, pushes off when no need to, n need to learn to shut his trap. Please let’s sever ties with Swaggy now! Russel n Clarke on defense r awful if u analyze the game with facts, both r lackadaisical, no hustle when needed, n the lucky sacks the past two weeks were just that…luck…watch the tape. Koetter has to go…poor clock management each week, misuse of time outs, no heart at all he’s fine with field goal vs going for the first down or touch down. Panthers went trickery
because koetter is a joke n clown, he looks lost n confused on the sideline. Y didn’t he go trickery with nothing to lose, because he’s a push over. I guarantee the saints Sean Peyton do the same n try a trick play, cause that what u do with suckers like koetter. We need an open minded innovated coach we HARBAUGH!!!!!.

  9. Bobby M. Says:

This team lacks the accountability to be great…When Gruden came here, our defense was great, yet he still challenged them to be better. These guys are simply trying to not be screw ups. It’s a poor mentality…Koetter has preached on this since day 1….We have a losers mentality.

  10. Rrsrq Says:

Yeah, Swaggy jumped offsides, Not smart, but he was trying to make a play, the offensive line false starts and delay of game penalties, can’t score more than three with the amount of red zone opportunities and 50yard FGs, which most NFL kickers (unless wearing a Bucs uniform) are making, that’s the stuff that gets me, we stay behind the sticks, going 5 yards back before you go 10 yards forward, makes it difficult on the o-line, qb and the a longer FG try

  11. darin Says:

Swaggy has sucked from day 1. Wasnt him who lost the game yesterday. That didnt even give them a first down. Besides what real fan wanted the bucs to win. Now we are picking number 5 and climbing. The fact is, as good as dirk and smith Finally coached, they were outcoached again. This time on special teams. The panthers had one of those flat games, so rivera took it from dirk. The clueless look on his face after his team does something stupid really makes me wana stop watching. N some people want him to stay, wow.

  12. Son of Kobe Faker Says:

Klueless took barber out and martin in because thats how he does his rb rotation before the game…

Is this fool for real? Adjustments?

  13. HowToSpellRhonde Says:

Yeah right, Koetter let it all hang out for about 3 minutes at the podium.

  14. TheBucsAnthem Says:

    @ Defense Rules

    LOL

Well Mike Smith defense has given up the booty almost on every single game this year in one way, shape or form or whatever.

The bottomline is that every bucs fan knew….just knew!…….that the bucs defense could not stop a team to close out the game on that final drive.

    Ain’t happening Captain!!!!!

  15. Son of Kobe Faker Says:

“I and my defense gave tampa a 9-7 record last year with a 5 game winning streak with my defense and im the scapegoat this year with this putrid offense of the last 2 years?…kobe was right…bunch of sheep!”

    Mike smith

  16. TheBucsAnthem Says:

Mike Smith simply cannot execute his style of defense because he lacks the players to run it.

    But here’s the thing though….

The best coaches puts the schemes in place to stop the opposing offense while maximizing the player’s best abilities…..that’s why the Patriots are so good….they are the masters at it.

Mike Smith isn’t really maximizing anything…..

  17. not there yet Says:

Nope it’s a coaching issue. Swaggy Baker was never this lazy in his entire career but the head coach allowed it and he’s too weak to hold players accountable. To reach up all those years and score 22 points is really the coaches fault especially if you hardly take shots in the end zone. One more week and we can get a real coach in here, that’s all they need to win.

  18. Eric Says:

    The team stinks.

    Your the head coach.

Enough of this bragging about the effort and doing good things.

  19. Bucsfansince76 Says:

4 dash 11. Things are going to change. What Things tho? Look at the last ten years, ownership needs to get it right or sell the team. Hire an outside consultant to review the franchise to bottom or it will continue to be the SOS. What’s the definition of insanity? Doing the same thing over again & expecting the same results., Please Glazers, get this right. Merry Christmas Bucs fans!

  20. Lakeland Says:

If you want to lay out of work after a hangover. But you are running out of excuses to use. Just come to this site, this place is loaded with excuses.

    The Bottom Line

    This teams sucks

  21. Mike Johnson Says:

Pulpit confessions by coach Koetter? Save’em!! You are Captain of the vessel and your ship is leaking badly. You cannot bail out because you are to far out into the sea. So you praise your crew and ready your troops for one last LOSING..Battle.
Your DC sits atop high mask viewing your impending Doom. Now..Let us Pray………your cord is cut…FOREVER>…AMEN.

  22. rhonda barb Says:

Trade America’s Idiot to Cleveland and draft a QB we can all be proud of!! What an embarrassment on and off the field!!

  23. MadMax Says:

De and O line first 2 picks….Chubb and Nelson (of course we’ll have to trade up for Nelson after Chubb if we get him).

  24. Nate Says:

“I and my defense gave tampa a 9-7 record last year with a 5 game winning streak with my defense and im the scapegoat this year with this putrid offense of the last 2 years?…kobe was right…bunch of sheep!”
    Mike smith

Exactly right Mike Smith and Son of a kobe faker

this follow the sheepele article I tell you…….

the COACH EVEN SAID SO…..you cant score field goals and expect to win

have the D give up 13 points and blame them fully on a 4th down the Defense might not have stopped even without the penalty

When the D is bad it gets blame but when the offense needs to get blame it seems joe and a lot of media

go out of their way to deflect it….even when koetter ADMITS IT lol

  25. USFBUC Says:

Hey, hey just read we are currently projected to draft 4th if the season ended today! With out luck the Bucs will beat the Saints and make us miss out on a talented player. Here’s hoping for a loss next week!

  26. USFBUC Says:

Also reading that Gruden is starting to contact assistant coaches? I don’t know how I feel about it all but this craziness may actually happen. How weird would it be to fire Gruden in two years with his name in the Ring of Honor?

  27. FuNkYxMuNkEy Says:

Head issues and #3 having the softest and weakest hands in football. He has zero hand strength or something with all the fumbles he has. Pathetic

  28. USFBUC Says:

Idk FunkyMonkey Winston gets hit a ton, seven sacks is crazy. You get hit that many times and you are going to fumble and standing there like a Qb does those hits are going to start to make you jumpy. Outside of the fumbles Winston had a really good game.

  29. StPeteBucsFan Says:

We didn’t have enough talent or draft picks and FA’s to complete our team.

We just ran out of picks and health. I never expected Jack Smith to play but Noah Spence was a real blow. Then the marginal health of many other DL.

Licht gambled on Smith, Spence, Swaggy, and others who just didn’t work out.

Same on the OL. I really thought we had improved but Sweezy and Pamphile were major disappointments and our OT’s were wildly inconsistent. We need at least two more GOOD OL. We need an OL that can run block as well as pass block.

We need at least two more studs on the DL and that’s if we keep GMC.

Our draft….DE…DE/DT…OL…DE…OL We need to replenish our sorry trenches.

I trust Licht to draft but I trust no one with the Bucs on FA’s. Wonder if we could find some magic scout to help out with that horribly weak link.

  30. JMarkBuc Says:

Not a Winston fan, never have been… Just don’t think he is what he has been touted to be, and don’t think he ever will. That being said, I thought he played pretty well the last two games, although there was still a good bit of luck with the Hail Mary throws.

I do remember thinking yesterday with 9 minutes left, when we got the ball, that if he’s a franchise QB he will lead the team down the field, drain the clock and score a TD and put the game out of reach. Just didn’t happen.

  31. Son of Kobe Faker Says:

    Lol…the sheep!!

We need de, ol ,ss .rb……..

How long is that going to take

Which teams have dominate o lines? How many good olineman actually are there playing? How many will even play from the next draft?

Our oline was good enough from last year until licht and koetter brainstormed the idea to put marpet at center and couldnt admit his fvkup and just release the broken bum jr sweezy….our 2016 oline was good enough

Let me give you sheep some info

A average oline can beat(win)any rush with a 3 step drop offense and

Even the best front 4 d line can be beaten with a 3 step drop offense

  32. loggedontosay Says:

I remember when fans on this cornetal the Web said good coaches scheme with the talent they have, but that was when Lovie was the head coach. Now, excuses. The problem is the head coach. The offensive and defensive lines need to be so much better. Players are coached to use their talents in a scheme designed by the head coach. Dirk Koetter’s offense was exposed first by Toni Romo on the Thursday night game against the Patriots. Jenna Laine has exposed Koetter’s offense. Ian Rapoport has exposed Koetter’s offense.

  33. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

This has nothing to do with Hard Knocks. That’s just an excuse.

The players on this team need to learn to only accept winning during games. Period.

Ask Patriot players how they feel during a game if they are losing.

  34. loggedontosay Says:

    JMark,

There is a difference between think and hope. Thinking requires a reasonable evaluation of facts. EXAMPLE: At the rate of speed that truck is traveling it will kill me if I attempt to cross the street. That truck is going fast; I hope that truck do not hit me and kill me when I cross the street. You see hope only requires observation. If Koetter had called two to four yard plays Winston would have been able to work the ball into the end zone. Koetter was in the red zone trying to make explosive plays. The defense was adjusted to prevent the ball from going into the end zone. You are one of those people that do not watch the game.

  35. Rod Munch Says:

The head case comes from the coaching – and Dirk coaching scared, not to lose, instead of playing to win. At the end of first half the ball at the 5 and Dirk is more worried about running the clock than getting a TD. On the second to last drive Dirk plays for a field goal (a long FG) instead of pushing the ball and putting the game away. It’s the same thing he did last year when he was ultra conservative when the Bucs ever got the lead and last year the defense bailed him out every time.

  36. Jmarkbuc Says:

    Loggedoutofreality

WTF is that convoluted mess you posted, and how in Hell does it relate to what I posted?

You get hit by a truck already? I can only surmise that you are a JW nut hugger fan boy..just my thought not my hope.

    Merry Christmas wack job..

  37. MadMax Says:

    @StPete,

Ansah should be available…..we get him and draft Chubb, then Oline (Nelson), then a RB (Rashaad Penny-trade up for him)….the rest im not too sure of yet…trading some guys for draft pick ammo will help a lot!

  38. Buccaneer Bill Says:

It’s a talent issue, you can’t blame the coaches for that.

  39. mark2001 Says:

Bill.. we have enough talent to compete for a playoff spot. We certainly don’t have 4-12 talent, and have seriously underachieved this year.

  40. Issic Haggins Says:

Disagree the D line has a real physical problem , they get their asses whipped like I have never witnessed. There isn’t a team in the league that couldn’t score a td rushing three times from the five or hell the 8 for that matter . They could have 25 tries and not once would they stop anybody !!!

  41. Dan Says:

It’s a Bucs life folks. Same story different day. Same leadership at the top since 08 get used to it fans this is our new post Malcom reality.

  42. Duke Says:

    Loggedontosay,

I’m curious about your use of the word “exposed” in the context of your post.
    Can you enlighten me?
I get the impression that you are operating on the assumption that a cloak of mystery surrounds other coaches schemes. Or am I mistakenly reading your words to literally.

  43. Mike Johnson Says:

Look..Our Bucs are gonna eventually be just fine. But either one or 2 things gotta happen this off season…Either Fire Koetter and his staff and start over. OR..fire Smitty and his staff and bring in a fresh Defensive coaching unit. WE draft CHUBB, maybe a CB and lets take care of our Lines both Offensive and Defensive. Hopefully we pick up a good DE in free agency also.
