Noah Spence Had Shoulder Surgery

November 3rd, 2017

Surgery complete

Veteran defensive end Robert Ayers believed second-year DE Noah Spence could/would be a 15-sack guy this season, but that was before Spence dislocated his shoulder on the first snap of the Bucs’ second game.

That shoulder, surgically repaired last offseason, was never quite right after that.

Spence, who had a sack/forced fumble in the Bucs’ opener against the Bears, was placed on injured reserve last month. Dirk Koetter said this evening, via the Buccaneers Radio Network, that Spence had surgery in Colorado this week and things went well.

Koetter said Spence is expected back at One Buc Palace next week.

While Spence certainly can’t be relied upon for next season, he’s a talented — and inexpensive — body to have in the mix as the Bucs try to fix their horrendous pass rush.

How different is this surgery from the one last year. Is this a chronic situation or just bad luck for Spence that same injury surfaced a year later?

  2. AlteredEgo Says:

    never quite right….

  3. The Buc Realist Says:

The difference is he will have almost 3 months of rehab extra to build it back up for next year then last season!!!!! We need this guy healthy for all of next season!!!! And the sheep, GMC was injured his first 2 years as well!!!!!

    Go Bucs!!!!!!!!

  4. Warrenfb12 Says:

That’s all he can be considered is a body

  5. BucEmUp Says:

I just hope we have a DC by the time he’s healthy. Not holding my breath

    Too small. Overmatched

    Get healthy Spawn!

  8. Hodad Says:

If you keep putting Spence as a defensive end in a 4-3 defense, He’ll keep getting hurt. The kid just isn’t built to go up against 320 lb NFL tackles. His 40 times, aren’t much better then those 320 lb tackles, so his speed rush won’t work either. Hopefully when Koetter, and Licht are shown the door we switch to a 3-4 giving Spence a chance. As of right now, he’s another Licht second round bust!

I am with UB……..Get healthy Spawn!!!

    To small man
You can’t play end at 235.

“His 40 times, aren’t much better then those 320 lb tackles”

Really? You sure about that? Might you have forgotten that he had a hamstring issue at the combine but ran his 40 anyway…

Heal up Noah. Hopefully that shoulder will stabilize so you can ball out next year.

  12. OneBucPerson Says:

Honestly I love his speed but I feel like he’d much much better as a 3-4 OLB.

  13. LakeLand Says:

Noah Spence would be a Pro Bowl OLB with the Pittsburgh Steelers. He’s a 3-4 OLB , he’s not a 4-3 DE. I don’t know what makes the Bucs think that he’s a 4-3 DE. I said this when he was drafted, well everyone was saying it, except the Bucs.

Cheers to a strong recovery and an awesome future Bucs career! Keep your head up son!

    NOAH SPENCE

DRAFT PROJECTION Rounds 1 or 2

    NFL COMPARISON Whitney Mercilus

BOTTOM LINE His issues are well-documented, but his recovery and turnaround is what has NFL teams excited. Spence has been accountable for his actions and worked just as hard off the field as he has on the field to change his life and attack his problems. His inability to hold the point of attack combined with his ability to rush the passer make him a logical choice as a 3-4 rush linebacker. The speed of the game make take a year or two to get used to, but Spence should become a starter early in his career.

I still say draft 2 DE early in next years draft. Use our first 2 picks on pass rushers if you have to. Get some guys with good size that can play 43 DE if thats gonna remain the base defense.

You cant rely on Noah Spence until he can prove he can stay healthy.

  17. The Buc Realist Says:

    @lakeland

You can post the whole thing, not just the part you agree with!!!!!! LOL!!!!!!!!

“At his size, Spence could play end or linebacker in the NFL, giving him a chance to succeed wherever he winds up –”

  18. LakeLand Says:

The BOTTOM LINE is what I quoted.

  19. Clw JB Says:

He is not an NFL DE – this d has the players for an3-4 and he is one them – if he was ROLB for the Steelers, he has 16 sacks first year

  20. BigHogHaynes Says:

Spence playing DE ain’t working out too well!!! Looks to me like a misuse of talent!! Same thing LOVIE was charged with! I’m now charging Coach Smitty with the same crime! Morphing Defense my a$$!!! TAKE A KNEE…KEEP AMERICA FREE!!! HOUSTON (ICO/THE JAILER) YOU HAVE A PROBLEM !!

  21. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

“…expected back at One Buc Palace next week…”

To do what exactly? Rehab? He’s on injured reserve, so he won’t be contributing this season.

I wish him well. They should have rehabbed him longer this year.

  22. Not there yet Says:

He’s a nice player but why choose a guy in the second round you never expected to be a full time starter. Will gholston was a third round and he’s not fill time because he had no pass rush ability

Licht screwed the pooch with this pick because for whatever reason they aren’t looking for well rounded lineman they are looking for a guy who can play the run OR the pass which is so stupid. I agree 3-4 backer.
