Dumpster Diving For DEs

October 15th, 2017

He couldn’t do any worse.

Joe struggled not to write the following for days because it was just too easy.

After watching the groin punch of a game today, it bears writing.

You may have noticed that the Bucs inserted defensive end Will Clarke into the game at defensive end weeks ago,and he played today to, though if you wouldn’t have known if you were expecting results.

Yes, the Bucs are so desperate for an edge rush, that the Bucs are signing 53-year old former MLB all stars.

The previous sentence is inaccurate. The Bucs player is not that Will Clark, the former great slugger and defensive whiz for the San Francisco Giants. The Bucs defensive end spells his last name “Clarke.”

However, the Bucs are so putrid with their edge rush (what edge rush?) that they might be better off signing a 53-year old man who once tore apart baseball with his stick.

In fact, Joe is so disgusted over this organization’s inability to find a decent edge rusher the past decade, Joe would like to take a baseball bat to someone, specifically the person who let Michael Bennett walk away for no good reason!!!

But Joe is past the point of outrage, actually. It is now just comical. What quarterbacks are to the Browns is what defensive ends are to the Bucs. It’s is a punch line in an opening act for Carrot Top in Vegas. It’s that bad. Bucs defensive ends have one sack this season, through five games. ONE!!!

All week long Joe read and heard how rotten the offensive line is for the Cardinals. Yet the Bucs could barely get an edge rush (what edge rush?) on a statue like Carson Palmer. Not even close enough for him to hear footsteps.

It is just out of hand and an outright disgrace.

Hey, Jacquies Smith is still looking for work! Remember him? Oh, wait…

    LOL

Maybe we should bring in Michael Strahan off retirement??????

  2. NJBucsFan Says:

Lamar Houston had a sack for th Texans. He was just in Tampa…why did he walk out without a contract?

  3. Roy T. Buford Says:

There are three GMs and five HC’s who share the blame for no good edge rush. As for Bennett, I think Dom had a verbal agreement with Benett to not sign until he talked to the Bucs about his offer. Benett had shown decent performance at the time, but he also seemed to be damaged goods. Not making excuses for Dominik, but there were many tries at guys, some who came here, who didn’t perform as expected. Dude from Cinci..what’s his name…and looked like Ayers was going to do something and we all thought Spence was going to be a beast…not a slab of roasted beast. Pretty clear DE is priority for offseason. Should have a Top 10 pick.

At least we’ve got a good punter. MVP of the 1st half.

I dont even think it is about our players on the line anymore. Its about the gameplan.

We rush a straight 4 all game every game……any down any distance. This may actually be the most generic defence ever seen in TB and thats saying something.

I cant even believe Mike Smith has been in the NFL as long as he has and the only thing different we do on defense is bring in McClain(who really sucks) on obvisous passing downs. How has Mike Smith learned so little about defensive scheming in all his year? How exactually is Mike Smith this very bad?

The first drive of the game says it all………Thats because we were set up to see a pass heavy offense and they feature AP and fool us. They fooled us 7 times on that drive guys!!!!! 7 dam times!!!! Its obvisous we had just one defensive play called on that drive and never had a plan to stop the run!!!!!

How the f*** does this guy put our defense into a game with no plan to stop the run? It’s almost like the dude is an amateur coach!!!

  6. Pelbuc Says:

Calais Campbell and Julius Peppers were out there but apparently not good enough for Licht.

  7. Ed Says:

All the player’s are not bad, just bad coaching. You can bring 100 different Defensive Ends to Tampa. It will not work because of this 1999 defense scheme.

  8. Chucklehead Says:

Bucs D has been exposed. No pass rush and the DBs play 10 yards off. Fire at will. Come on Mike Smith coach them up. Bump these guys at the line and blitz more often. I know blitzing is dangerous but does it really matter when your first option coverage is getting eaten alive?

  9. jimmyjack Says:

Not like our other coordinator is any better……..Dirk is so dumb he starts every game one dimensional trying to steal a longball and it never works but he keeps doing it!!!!

Hes not fooling anybody and in this game attacking the sidelines was such a bad plan to start cause thats Arizonas strenght.

Dirk and Smith look like boys amongst men when it come to gamecalling

  10. jimmyjack Says:

Chucklehead…..In two years Smith has refused to ever run a blitz. He wont even blitz on 3rd and 20 and its cost us more then any team in the league.

Keep hoping Smith will show something different but IO’m sure he wont.

  11. NJBucsFan Says:

@Pelbuc. There’s a chance they didn’t want to come here. They never visited..Houston visited and should have been signed

  12. Capt. Blighe Says:

We got the great Noah Spence,or is it Akeem.

  13. Dusthty Rhothdes Says:

licht has no clue build a defense then make a offense after…the bucs have had plenty of time to build a defense and get a rush end or even a defense that presures the qb but that has not happened its like the florida gators havinf 7 years to get a qb and whiffing

  14. Bobby M. Says:

If we agree the draft is a crap shoot…it would seem we should be burning high picks on high impact players…like DEs. Our recent drafts are looking rough

    #1 on Hargreaves…meh
    #2 on Spence….stays hurt
#2 on Aguayo…out of the league
#2 on J. Evans…rotational player but position lacks consistent impact on game
#3 on Godwin…buried on depth chart

Ideally the team should be stacked on defense to allow Winston to simply be a game manager until he develops. Instead we loaded the offense and went all in on a QB that’s not ready to carry a team game after game.

  15. I'm tired and 87 is right Says:

We have failed for years to go get ENOUGH DE’s just for starters. It’s as simple as that front office!

  16. LakeLand Says:

The Bucs were too concerned about getting weapons for Jameis. That’s the reason for not signing Edge Rushers. That’s why the Bucs are giving up 403 YPG.

  17. Lee Says:

Freeny could not hurt as a third-down guy.

  18. godzilla13 Says:

The Bucs need a stud at DE. Licht really needs to feel the heat.

2014 – 2nd round TE Austin Seferian-Jenkins vs DE Stephon Tuitt
2015 – 2nd round LT Donovan Smith vs DE Preston Smith
2016 – 1st round CB Vernon Hargreaves vs LT Laremy Tunsil
    2016 – 2nd round – K Roberto Aguayo vs DE Yannick Ngakoue
2017 -1st round – OJ Howard vs DE Taco Charlton

  19. ArthurKoblenzBuc Says:

    Truly outrageous…
    Don’t blame Licht

  20. LifeOfABucFan Says:

Capt Blighe…Akeem Spence is at Lions..lol…
