Evans, Bucs Talkin’ New Pact

September 25th, 2017

Straight cash, homie.

It has begun.

As reported Sunday by heavy-metal, head-banging Jason La Canfora of CBS Sports, the Bucs and Mike Evans have begun preliminary discussions of a new contract. Evans, in the fourth year of his rookie contract, is set to be a free agent after the 2018 season.

Of course, the Bucs could always franchise Evans after the 2018 season to keep him in the fold for (at least) 2019.

Since the start of the 2016 season, Evans is one of only two receivers in the top five in receiving yards and receiving touchdowns, far outpacing his salary of $690,000 this season on his rookie contract (his fifth-year option is worth $13.25 million in 2018).

Elite receivers are earning roughly $15 million in 2017 compensation, and it may behoove Tampa Bay to get ahead of the Giants, who are dealing with a similar situation with Odell Beckham Jr.

La Canfora hit the nail on the head in his last paragraph. The Bucs will need to pay America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston, by 2019. That is expected to be a monster deal. The salary cap will soon become a major concern.

If, as LaCanfora suggests, the Bucs get Evans signed before Beckham, it may just save a few million, which in the long run could help retain or sign a key player.

  1. BoJim Says:

    Mike deserves a nice one.

  2. Pickgrin Says:

We still have $16-18M available in 2017 cap space for exactly this purpose.

  3. D-Rome Says:

Good article Joe and I agree that this deal needs to get done sooner than later. There really is no good reason to not sign Evans to a long term extension.
Look, Joe did NOT say re-sign Evans now. Joe only wrote that it might benefit the Bucs to get a deal done sooner rather than later. But that’s not always the case. And early deals have their risks, too. –Joe

  4. Captain Big Stick Says:

Pay the man.. only true superstar on the team at this moment

  5. Tom Edrington Says:

Will he sit or kneel when he signs the new contract?

  6. mike n Says:

The kid deserves it, good for him. This is hopefully Larry Fitz part 2…. spend his whole 15 year HOF career in one place.

  7. tmaxcon Says:

good for mike. i am not happy about his protest choice like the rest I think it’s misguided and their are more positive approaches to this issue but he has a choice.

thankfully they can rid themselves of the always hurt underperforming overpaid DT cancer93 after this year that will free up some coin. if the glazers clowns don’t figure out this winning formula sooner than later Jameis will bolt and I bet mike evans feels similar. gmc has taught the glazer boys losing is good. jameis nor mike will tolerate losing or the clown show that is the glazer organization under the kids.

  8. SB Says:

Will he drop the pen as they hand it to him?

  9. sorryitriggeredyou Says:

Evans has delivered pay the man, if he wants to stay. Jameis has not, he needs to earn that monster contract. Bucs should follow the way J-ville handled Blake Bortles.

Pick up the 5th year option then draft a QB for serious competition. Let Jameis fight for that monster contract.

  10. Stud Says:

@SB if Jameis is giving him the pen it might be over his head

The talk of Jameis getting a big contract is a strong reality especially when other QB’s of his level like jay Cutler got big money.

  11. ndog Says:

At this rate we will need to spend big money on Jameis? Lets see he throws the 2nd most picks in the NFL every year in the league and doesn’t win games if the defense and running game are not working perfectly. That sounds a lot like a backup QB. Again I love the guy but lets start looking at the facts. He needs to improve leaps and bounds this year for us to start talking about a big contract.

  12. adam from ny Says:

jameis is gonna get a lot of heat this week from fans and media alike leading up to the giants game…a win will make the minnesota debacle old news…

and reality is, with as poorly as they played yesterday, there was a moment in the second half where you though maybe just maybe they can comeback and pull this out…then they gave up more points…they didn’t deserve a win…but if they were on their game they can beat this team – just not yesterday – hello joe dirt

and mcnichols and snoop are laughing right now

  13. Michael Winnegar Says:

Lost some respect for Mike yesterday…..

  14. Dlavid Says:

Evans , who fid not vote , but protest our POTUS by kneeling during the National Anthem . States he will not do it again but led blindly to the alter by Jackson ( dumb and dumber ) to do it again . Respect your country and flag the same way everyone else did who could not stand Obama . Enough cry baby stomping your feet , sucking your thumb , pouting ! Grow up and act like men not petulant spoiled children . Do your bitching outside the lines on your own time . Yes you have the right but your customers ain’t buying it more and more !

  15. DB55 Says:

Lol Lol you guys are crazy! Winston had no running game, none! 29 yards. He threw 40 times.

Now if we would have signed AP and attempted at least 20 carries then maybe but we ran the ball 7 times, 7! Make it 8 if you count Reedy’s reverse.

Make it 30 attempts rather than 40 and MAYBE you have less ints and a more productive offense. But wtf do I know.

  16. BurgDweller Says:

Get it done! Evans is a top 5 WR in the NFL.

  17. Wausa Says:

I agree that Evans is an elite receiver and needs to be signed to as one of the top 10 receivers in the league.
However, he was dominated by Xavier Rhodes in that game on Sunday, which was really surprising to me.

  18. DB55 Says:

He was not dominated by Rhodes, not even close. Smh

  19. AJ Says:

Get this done ASAP. He has earned it. This is a good look for the organization. To take care of their own. Especially a team player, who works hard to become great. Has kept a positive attitude throughout (mostly). Team Leader…

  20. Craig Trigueiro Says:

At work I am not allowed to talk about anything religious. My company won’t allow it.
Mike, does that violate my First Amendment rights?
My Bucs tickets from 1974 costs thousands of RECRATIONAL dollars. I have other options. Hint, hint Glazers.
When MLB players took the World Series away from the fans over salaries, I quit watching. Another hint hint Glazers.

  21. Thespiritof1976 Says:

Hey Mikey: stand for the anthem and you’ll get your money. Continue to kneel, and good riddance. Your choice.

  22. Ron bosley Says:

You want to paid him go ahead he a good ball player but his kneeling is a different story we will not be support any company that support any players who took a knee. With this in mind there may not be money coming in to pay these disrespectful people

  23. Oj "I Got The Juice" Howard Says:

The anti kneeling crowd is really a joke. Did you guys ever stop complaining for a second to think about WHY they are kneeling? Having knee jerk reactions to these guys exercising their right to protest is just ridiculous.

  24. TampaTown Says:

Does he want to play for the Bucs or BLM?

  25. LakeLandBuc Says:

    Keep kneeling Mike

  26. ClodHopper Says:

Hey guys, I hate the kneeling just as much as you do. But don’t hate Mike. And don’t wish for him off the team. That’s counter productive. Just do what I do. Think of him as nothing more than a piece of meat. A tool to help our team get first downs and touchdowns. Kids? Wife? Who cares? I don’t care personally about pieces of meat tools. I don’t love him or hate him. Just like I don’t love or hate a chunk of steak or a wrench. Now if he starts praising Castro, I’ll start hating

  27. HowToSpellRhonde Says:

    @ tmaxcon

Yesterday you all but said Evans should be punched in the face for his actions. Should he get punched before signing?

  28. BucTired Says:

Just not all that interested anymore. Used to be a big big NBA fan before their “strike” years ago. Millionaire’s striking really put me off. Turns out, not missing the NBA AT ALL. Although a different situation, my feelings on this are similar. My Evans jersey is going in the trash. Won’t be wasting any more time and money on this as I’m trying to get away from the “world” and political BS with sports. Regular season hockey is just a couple weeks away. Better place to spend my recreational dollars.

  29. Buc_The_World Says:

Man will you jacka$$es get off this kneeling thing!!! If you put as much effort into worrying about social injustice, police brutality, racial inequality, and loss of life as much as you do about the flag and the anthem, none of the players would be kneeling. In light of everything that has been going on in this country you would think people would understand the protests. If you you don’t like the players kneeling why don’t help do something to change things? Until then shut the f**k up!

  30. LakeLandBuc Says:

Blame all of the protests on your POTUS ( Predator Of The United States). How dumb can you be? The fool get on twitter and call NFL players Son Of Bitches. So now their mothers are bitches? That’s the REAL disrespect.

  31. ClodHopper Says:

    Buc_The_World

Just like y’all say about Mike and Kap. We have the RIGHT! So YOU go ahead and STFU!

  32. Makie Lovie Says:

The goal is the destruction of what we know of the United States and all it stands for. The kneeling players are being used/pawns in a much bigger game and have no idea. What you are seeing is the fruits of the seeds planted by the Marxist/globalists. We all know what the solution is going to be: removal of the National Anthem at the games. Another victory for the Marxists/globalists as they remove/desecrate the pillars of our culture. It really is an example of Saul Alinsky tactics. They take small groups that feel disenfranchised with a grievance – whether real or perceived, and you agitate them, reaffirming their perceptions. They then smother them and embellish events to prove their perception is the truth. Then they combine the angst of these groups, which normally would not cooperate and you have formidable political power. All the while they really have no care for the groups you agitated, just a lust for power.

  33. TampaTown Says:

@Buc_the_world: What exactly do you want done? And when it is done all this goes away, right? Or without some grievances you got nothing? Maybe you and your friends and Miko don’t want peace and happiness and unity that you say you do do want? Because what would your lives be without something to be pi$$ed off about? Maybe you’re the ones that need to look in the mirror.

  34. Buc_The_World Says:

    @ClodHopper

Critics of Mike Evans and other protesters don’t like criticism about themselves, what a shock…lol you sir are a hypocrite and you are proving my point. You don’t even care why Mike is protesting just the fact that he is. Like I said, if you want players to stop kneeling, help to end racism, inequality, and injustice. But I doubt you even care about any of that.

  35. Clodhopper Says:

Yes I care about all that. If someone brings up cops shooting blacks and they mention, Travon or Michael Brown, I quit listening. Those just prove your mad to be mad and care nil about facts. However if they bring up Walter Scott or Laquan McDonald and leave out the other two, I’m listening. Unfortunately I have NEVER had this conversation without the other party bringing up Travon and Brown.

So you wouldn’t mind if I called you mom a Who re if I did it in the name of “racial equality?” Because that is what they are doing. They are shtin on my brother in law, my grandpa, one of my best friends in the name of equality. You want ME to listen? Try not starting the convo with shtin on my family!!! And if you cant figure that out, just plan on equality NEVER getting solved.

  36. Buc_The_World Says:

    @ TampaTown

I’m sorry who are my friends? I’ve never met Miko Grimes, why are you throwing her into our conversation? She this judgmental attitude is why we as a society can’t get anywhere. It’s not about what I want it’s about what is best for America. Kneeling for anthem is not great for America, I get that, but neither is racism, police brutality, or injustice why don’t you get that? Why do you only have a problem with the action but not issues that are being protested. To answer your question I want peace and unity, but people like you wont allow us to have it because you can’t see past your ignorance. I remember when I was in high school and a white guy in my class saw an ebony magazine, and than proceeded to ask why black people needed their magazine. So my teacher brought in every major magazine at the time and challenged him to find one article or ad that featured a black person. He couldn’t do it. At that point he realized what’s normal for the majority is not normal for the minority. It actually pissed him off and upset him. He was a changed person after that. He thought we were complaining for the sake of complaining until he saw it for himself. Now you have seen it (you will probably deny seeing due to your ignorance) and just because you go to Bucs games and cheer with all races, or you have a few minority friends does not excuse your ignorance sir.

  37. webster Says:

Blacks “disrespected” federal laws when restaurants stated no blacks allowed but they still went and sat at the counter of these restuarants. Rosa parks “disrepected” the law and government when she sat in the front of the bus and refused to move. Come to find out, it was not “disrepect at all as those laws where changed. When its all said and done these kneeling athletes and the nfl will be remembered as being on the right side of history as well. Keep kneeling mike.

  38. DB55 Says:

    Clod

What about all the vets even WWII vets that are taking a knee in support, are they also disrespecting veterans?

  39. Buc_The_World Says:

    @Clodhopper

Have you ever been a victim of racial profiling? I have on multiple occasions. I was an honor student in college at HCC the first time it happened. I was accused of stealing my own car by simply walking up to it in the parking lot, I had a gun pointed at my head. Do you know how that feels? Have you ever been called a N-word? I remember the first time it happened, I was I elementary school playing with some kids and I was called the n-word by someone who was white, and guess what I still probably have more white friends than you because I don’t judge a whole race by the acts of a few. That’s just a couple of things I can list so much more, so don’t try to act like I don’t know what racism, injustice, inequality when I have experienced them myself. I’m done, I swear you anti-protesters just prove your ignorance. You don’t care about anything except proving everybody else is wrong.

  40. 813bucboi Says:

i am not happy about his protest choice like the rest I think it’s misguided and their are more positive approaches to this issue

*so protested against social injustice is misguided?…..its already a peaceful protest….what other positive approaches do you suggest that would get the message out more effectively?….or do you just them players to “play ball……

Lost some respect for Mike yesterday

*How can you lose respect for someone trying to improve their community?….do you respect mike the person or only respect mike the player?….

Respect your country and flag the same way everyone else did who could not stand Obama .

*You mean like tom brady, who refused to come to the white house

Do your bitching outside the lines on your own time

*Sorry masseh….this aint the 50’s….gone are the days of professional athletes holding their tongue…..so sad we live in a world where “fans” love the player but don’t respect the player as a man….

Hey Mikey: stand for the anthem and you’ll get your money. Continue to kneel, and good riddance. Your choice.

*If you didn’t know, the glazers support this type of action….they aint “the good ol boys” like jerry jones Robert kraft…. teams would be lined up down the street and around the corner to sign mike?…thankfully the glazers aren’t as dumb and ignorant as you…..

You want to paid him go ahead he a good ball player but his kneeling is a different story we will not be support any company that support any players who took a knee. With this in mind there may not be money coming in to pay these disrespectful people

*Black people are season ticket holders too!!!….black people love football….black people have money….rayjay would be filled with evans supporters while you stay at home and watch from afar…good riddance!!!

Just do what I do. Think of him as nothing more than a piece of meat.

*Now if that aint a slave owners mentality I don’t know what is…..

    CONTINUE TO PROTEST MIKE!!!!!!…..GO BUCS!!!!!

  41. Makie Lovie Says:

Taking a knee only alerts everyone that they are disgruntled and does nothing to fix the issues. If anything it is making things worse. How about presenting a solution? You have to ask why weren’t there kneeling protests for the last 8-16+ years? And moreover, what would it take to get all players back to respecting our Country & Flag?

  42. 813bucboi Says:

Yes I care about all that. If someone brings up cops shooting blacks and they mention, Travon or Michael Brown, I quit listening

WHY?….their situation is no different from those who were murdered by police officers…..a unarmed black man was murdered for no reason at all…..that is all the facts you need…..stop looking for an excuse….GO BUCS!!!!

  43. unbelievable Says:

    Well said Buc_the_world.

Some people can’t understand that the anthem does not singularly represent only the military and nothing else.

And if you’re kneeling with your hand over your heart, how is that not still showing respect while making your statement? The answer: it is.

Also, dumb dumb fans need to understand that your job =/= their job. They are entertainers. They are celebrities. You are not. Your job is nothing like theirs. If you don’t care about the opinions, than ignore it. I don’t care what any celebrities think about anything, personally. But I’m not a sensitive little snowflake.

  44. ClodHopper Says:

    DB

No. The vets themselves are able to do whatever the eff they want in that regard. Just like a black guy can use the n word.

    813. You just proved your biasies. You don’t take any of these as a case by case basis. You view all the same weather warranted or not.

    World

Yes I have. You think I’ve never been called white boy. You think every black person ive ever met has abeen a kind gentleman? You think I wasn’t called a mean name as a kid? Man you guys must really think white privilege a more powerful thing than god himself!!

  45. 813bucboi Says:

Taking a knee only alerts everyone that they are disgruntled and does nothing to fix the issues. If anything it is making things worse. How about presenting a solution?

YOU CALL IT MAKING THINGS WORSE…WE CALL IT MAKING PEOPLE AWARE!!!!….ONE SOLUTION WAS TO PUT BODY CAMERAS ON POLICE OFFICERS….HOWEVER, THOSE CAN BE EASLY MANIPULATED AND TAMPERED WITH IN ORDER TO PROTECT ANY WRONG DOING BY OFFICERS FROM COMING TO LIGHT…..

BELIEVE IT OR NOT, A PLAN IS BEING DEVELOPED BY THOSE WHO SUPPORT SOCIAL INJUSTICE…..GO BUCS!!!!

  46. 813bucboi Says:

    813. You just proved your biasies. You don’t take any of these as a case by case basis. You view all the same weather warranted or not…..

HOW?….an unarmed black man was murdered for no reason…..what other facts for there that im missing that would provide just cause….YOUR JUST LOOKING FOR AN EXCUSE…..be honest, you don’t care because “unarmed white boys” aren’t being murdered by black officers…..GO BUCS!!!

  47. 813bucboi Says:

  48. Keir Says:

I am surprised none of you who write these comments are head coaches or GM’s with everything you seem to know. Oh…that’s right…you guys don’t know SH%T!

The Joe’s and Ira are paid to write their opinions and articles.

For all of you that are bummed by the loss like me and hope they figure out a way to improve…I’m with you!

Signed – A fan without an Ego the size of a Bus!

  49. HowToSpellRhonde Says:

    @ Webster

Don’t forget MLK using the pulpit to spread the word of civil rights in chapels. The disgrace of his kind.

  50. TampaTown Says:

@ Buc_the_world: How funny you think that I’m white! Shows YOUR bias and racism! 😂 You are ignorant! I was waiting for that! You want to join Kapernick’s cause, go do it! It has nothing to do with the NFL. BTW… the only thing holding you back is you. That’s what you’re all really afraid of. Not having any excuses.

  51. Roy T. Buford Says:

Evans can go out on IR for all I care. Just got back from Minneapolis where he embarrassed us all yesterday, and himself, and he has to keep it going with Tom Jones. Trade this jerk. Get a guy in here to respects the fans and his country.

  52. Dlavid Says:

Buc the world …. you fail to understand that the ball game is not the place to air your grievances . Your false narrative of police brutality the ( the numbers prove you wrong ) black man way more often die at the hands of their own race . We are all profiled one way or another , it is called judging a book by its cover , so you don’t own the grievance there either . This has been going on since ” the Cambridge police acted stupidly ” comment made by … guess who . Take your complaints to the proper place NFL athletes , not the work place . Definitely not to your paying customers because they can cut you off . Not a first amendment issue . Folks ain’t buying what your selling . Respect your country that has afforded you the opportunity and wealth you have earned . You can hate the POTUS but still respect this land ! All of this rioting ,protesting etc coming from the alt-left because of the election of our POTUS . Did not see this for the last POTUS . Try making a difference not a scene . Try voting instead of not voting and then protesting the outcome . I think that exemplifies where in the problem lies .Regardless , I for one can no longer stomach the NFL , players standing for another country’s anthem then kneeling for ours …. pathetic . Their right to do so and my right to cease spending my $ and time watching it . Sports arena is no place for poilitics .

*The fact that you are all cap yelling at me, along with the rest of these racial comments shows that it is making it worse. As I said previously, These protesters are being used. It is hard to see the big picture when you are engulfed in racial rage.

  54. ClodHopper Says:

    813

You sure make a lot of assumptions about me. Helps justify your racism and hate and rage huh? Feed that beast!!

  55. Eric Says:

    Full scholarship to Texas A & M.

Multi million dollar NFL contract. Renewal forthcoming.

Oh the inhumanity of it all.

  56. Craig Trigueiro Says:

I wanted Aaron Donald whom the Bucs skipped to get Evans.
Can you imagine Aaron Donald next to GMC 🙂
If both keep playing as they do now, they both will be in the Hall of Fame.
But Defense usually wins Super Bowls!

  57. TampaTown Says:

@ Eric: Oh yeah. ME and all the rest of his professional athlete millionaire friends are oppressed. 😂😂 Can’t you see that? Go ahead and keep biting the hand that feeds you. Not gonna be getting those new contracts when there are
No Fans Left. You know, the NFL.

  58. webster Says:

    @ tampatown and eric

They are protesting for the voiceless. You know the people who were killed by rogue cops who no longer have a voice. They are protesting for the 16 year old who is poor that are harrassed by cops just for being a minority. Some people in the world follow the example of Christ were it teaches to help those less fortunate. Im sorry you guys dont have a heart or a soul like they do. And maybe just maybe they are protesting because of what they experienced prior to becoming rich. Maybe you two should know what these players are speaking about before you argue against it. That would be the intelligent thing to do.

  59. webster Says:

Fyi…being rich does not mean discrimination stops. Its amazing how clueless some of you are.

  60. 813bucboi Says:

  61. TampaTown Says:

@Webster: Why do you think I’m white? Wow. Seems to be a problem when one of us steps out of line. So thank you for showing that racism and bigotry is for everyone. And what are you trying to say? White people dont know what they’re talking about? Just because someone doesn’t agree with your tactics and rhetoric doesn’t mean they don’t sympathize with the cause. These athletes are just going about it in the wrong way. You have a problem with police profiling or excessive force? So do I. But go protest in front of the Police Department. You wanted to start a conversation? You did. Now stop kneeling. You say if you want respect you gotta give respect? Then do it. Practice what you preach.

  62. TampaTown Says:

    Comment in moderation. Sigh.

  63. Pruritus Ani Says:

Oh baloney. If the NFL is such a horrible, exploitive and racist organization, and you support the entity by playing for a team and profiting from it, that makes you a hypocrite, not a voice of the “oppressed”.
Man up and quit the league. Give your money to the oppressed and become a professional protester. There is always a peace riot somewhere.

  64. TampaTown Says:

    ^^^Love it

  65. Alanbucsfan Says:

Message to Evans and other NFL players:
Take your protest to police departments, city halls, congressmen/women where you may accomplish something- leave the National Anthem alone and stop playing race division games

  66. webster Says:

I see there is another clueless poster named pruitis. What type of drugs are some of you on. Not once did any of these players say they were protesting the racist nfl. I see you like to make up your own alternative facts. First you claim they were protesting the flag/military and now the clueless pruitis says its the racist nfl. Did you not see the nfl and owners come out in support of the players kneeling clueless one. Gtfooh with those alternative facts. Smdh….once again, if you are going to voice your opinion, please at least voice an opinion that is on topic and not some off the wall stuff that has not been said by any player.

  67. TampaTown Says:

Said that in my comment which hasn’t been cleared yet.

  68. darin Says:

Give him some money for the passion AND emotion yesterday. At that point when the doors are getting blown off Id rather see a bunch of bucs pissed off. Atta boy Mikie. Might be able to get a comeback going next time if so. Probably should have put him on defense for a bit. Wouldnt have hurt. New week n a desperate team comin in. Better bring it this week. Go bucs

  69. joestang Says:

Been a bucs fan since 1978, no longer. looked like they played the game on their knees. Sick of whining crybaby players that don’t even know the meaning of freedom. Anyway college football could be moved to Sunday.
go bucs straight to england where you belong.

  70. Pruritus Ani Says:

Ahh Webster…Yes. Many mentally deficient individuals like yourself believe the reason Colin Kapernick is unemployed today is due to racism in the NFL. Enough has been written and spoken about it now for over a year.
I concede the exact reasons people are kneeling in protest now may have changed. Perhaps they no longer have a sense or feeling of solidarity with Kapernick. Maybe these individuals are much like you. They know not of what they speak nor do. Characteristics of the addled and feeble minded.

  71. webster Says:

    @ tampatown

Not once did i say you were white. I said those athletes are protesting for those who are voiceless and in this case, minorities who are powerless. That contradicts your alternative facts that these athletes are protesting their own oppresion as you and eric stated. I said you were not christ like and did not have a soul to help those less fortunate. So thank you for showing your racism and bigotry. Its obvious you have comprehension issues and that is why you dont understand the protest.

  72. webster Says:

    @ the clueless pruitis

Kap does not have a job because clueless people like yourself are trying to make this about the military. Alot of owners were worried about signing him because of clueless people such as yourself. Thats evident by the fact that the baltimore owner took a poll to see if he should regardless of the fact they had worst quarterbacks on the roster. What this past weekend showed you is these owners stand behind the players kneeling and it shows you and many others are hypocrites. You like many others said you would not cheer for a team if they signed kap because he kneeled. The truth is many other players were kneeling before sunday yet people like you still cheered. Kap is the face of the movement and he has had to fall on the sword but make no mistake, his contribution and legend continues to grow because this nation now has dialogue. This is chess not checkers. Like it or not, kap has made a bigger contribution to society then your close minded self will ever make. Keep kneeling mike!!!

  73. webster Says:

    @ tampatown

Show me once where i called you white or even brought up being a racist. What i have said is you and others like you love alternative facts.

  76. Chef Says:

But please respect those that served in the Military. Imagain what would happen to a Military Sevice Member that
    kneeled.

    Respect goes both ways. J

Colin Kapernick and his “cops as pigs” socks, his support of Castro and Che Gueverra, sealed his own fate. He was and continues to be a completely worthless human being. He fell on the sword for no one but himself. The only tragedy was he was given so many opportunities that so many others could never have. Instead of using his talent for good, he chose a different route. An avenue that led to his own destruction. Considering the type of person he is, this was a good thing.

  78. webster Says:

Castro? You follow and love a president who loves putin and believes the kkk or nazis are good people. Gtfooh. And for the record, rogue and dirty cops have always been called pigs in the minority communities. I guess you missed when kap told yall that his uncle was a cop. Gtfooh

  79. webster Says:

Waiting on moderation for over an hour

  80. SB Says:

Completely understanding the protests, but the Venue is COMPLETELY wrong.

  81. TampaTown Says:

@webster: At 5:19 you said I should understand racial profiling before speaking about it. Implying I don’t understand because I’m not a minority, which is not true. I told you before that moderation thing is a ball buster. You can do ten comments then all of a sudden you get moderated when you thought other stuff you said was worse. Definitely breaks up your mojo and stinks when you’re trying to make a point. Happens to us all. At least there’s something to agree on!

  82. webster Says:

    @ tampatown

At 5:19 i said you and eric was wrong for saying these athletes were protesting their own oppression because you and eric stated they have nothing to be oppressed about because they were riched. At 5:19 i simply informed you and eric they were protesting the less fortunate and the voiceless and it had nothing to do with the players current plight in life. Stop introducing your alternative facts and accept you have no soul or heart because if you did, you would understand the protest. And btw… i have 2 comments still in moderation and its two hours now.

  83. webster Says:

Btw….i said you need to understand what and why these guys are protesting before you speak about it. They are not protesting their own oppression. They are protesting for those who have no voice. Thats what you do not understand. If you did, you nor eric would have brought up how much money they make and that they should not be protesting because of it.

  84. TampaTown Says:

I thought Kapernick and Michael Bennett stated they wanted to “start a conversation.” They did. Now stop kneeling. And also recognize that the National Anthem is no place to protest anything. If you’re trying to make a point, you can’t pi$$ everyone off right out of the gate. Not an intelligent thing to do. And you are also trying to make a misguided equivocation between the protest and the means of the protest. I said before, just because I disagree with the tactics does not mean I disagree with the message. The problem is uou actually have nothing to be mad about. Practice what you preach brother.

  85. Chef Says:

PLEASE before you make an assumption it is not disrespectful to some to kneel see how a military base responds to lowering and raising the Flag. All vehicles stop and passengers get out of vehicles. The flag is saluted and honored. It’s done in respect to those that served before us. That have given for our freedoms. It’s in honor of the sacrifices of those that served and their families.

Honor and tradition is part of the Military. It may seem silly to those that have not served. But it’s a fact.

Kneel during the coin toss. Kneel after you score a touch down. Imagine the impact you would have.

Ask the NFL to have a moment of silence prior to or after the National Anthem. Just show respect as you are asking for respect and justice.

I am not in any way saying not to demonstrate. BUT please consider others as you ask them to consider your views.

  86. Billy Says:

Everything is trumps fault right? Hmmmmi remember a different guy being in the white house when all this BS started….

  87. TampaTown Says:

Very well said Chef. If you want respect you gotta give respect. You think Trump’s comments were divisive? Kneeling during the Anthem is divisive.

  88. webster Says:

    @ chef

You are wrong. What do you have to say about the vets that say these players have the right to kneel. Not once have you addressed thst point. Until then, there is no need to comment because you are just restating a point that has been debunked numerous time. Those who served do not agree with the notion that everybody should stand

  89. webster Says:

    @ tampatown

You do not stop kneeling until change takes place. If mlk would have stopped just because a conversation started, then blacks would still be drinking out of seperate water fountains, riding in the back of the bus and not voting. I know you do not understand this because you said you migrated to this country. You do not stop until change takes place.

  90. TampaTown Says:

Hmm…”change.” How vague and unattainable. And how convenient is that?

  91. webster Says:

Castro? You follow and love a president who loves putin and believes the kkk or nazis are good people. Gtfooh. And for the record, rogue and dirty cops have always been called pigs in the minority communities. I guess you missed when kap told yall that his uncle was a cop. Gtfooh

Fyi……this is a post that has been in moderation for 3 hours

  92. TampaTown Says:

Get your politics out of my football. You’re pi$$ing everyone off and damaging the cause.

  93. webster Says:

Change means racial injustice. But im not suprised you would find that concept vague.

  94. TampaTown Says:

You just need something to be offended by. Otherwise you got nothing. Which means you don’t have anything going on in real life.

  95. webster Says:

    Tampatown,

You are not from here. You are an immigrant and therefore im not suprised you are not aware that politics and sports have always crossed. Research the 1968 olympics. Research ali. I can go on but i will start you there. I wont get into jackie robinson etc. Sports has always intersected with sports.

  96. webster Says:

Btw….ali, carlos and smith was also “damaging” the cause during the present. History has now taught us that they were not in fact damaging the cause. They were the instrument of change.

  97. TampaTown Says:

Once again, I don’t have a problem with change. But protesting during the National Anthem is not the way to do it. I am well aware of American History. I went to High School and College. I’m glad you pointed out you can’t be pro immigrant and anti American flag. Because that’s why I’m here to have this discussion. It’s all about respect and love for the American flag. 🇺🇸 So sad you were born in this wonderful country, warts and all, and don’t feel the same way.

  98. webster Says:

When the colonies protested england before the american revolutionary war, im sure many people in england said that it was not the appropriate time to protest. This country was founded on protest. Protest are not supposed to be convienient. They are supposed to be in your face. I have no problem with you disagreeing with it but understand those players have every right to protest during the athem based off the constitution period. Did you know it was legal to burn the flag in this country? These players are simply kneeling before the flag. To that i say keep kneeling mike.

  100. webster Says:

D@mn joe. Whats up with the moderation. Tampatown whenever you want to get a beer and have a real conversation, im down because this type of dialogue is important.

  101. webster Says:

Tampatown do you live in tampa?

  102. TampaTown Says:

I agree! Good talk. Yes I’m in Tampa. Not on social media though.

  103. NFLNut Says:

I don’t care if Mike stands or kneels, is a Christian or a Muslim, respects the flag or burns it in his backyard, etc., … his contract should be based on “on field production” and the fact is the kid is a top 5 receiver in the NFL along with Antonio, Julio, Odel and AJ … pay the kid!
