Notes From Final Day Of Training Camp

August 24th, 2017

Bucs linebackers have a group meeting after practice. Kwon Alexander told Joe they were meeting to decide what to tell the rookies to bring to One Buc Palace tomorrow for breakfast. Alexander said to Joe it couldn’t be just donuts. It has to be a real breakfast with hash browns, biscuits (preferably with gravy) as well as sausage and bacon — the works.

Bucs training camp 2017 is now officially over. No more open practices. No more fans sweating in the morning watching their beloved pewter pirates. Joe cobbled together a few notes as the Bucs begin their normal weekly routine — one  Joe hopes extends well into January.

* Today was clearly the smallest crowd to watch the Bucs practice. Clearly fans are ready for real football. However, a good chunk of the crowd must have been Stick Carriers. They were loud and on their feet for most of the practice, dancing to the music that was being piped in. It was the funnest crowd since the Stick Carrier Training Camp Takeover.

* Nick Folk putting on a show. He hit a field goal from 60 yards at the skinny posts. Gets a standing-O from many fans.

* O.J. Howard with nice seam catch from America’s Quarterback, Jameis Winston.

* Jameis missed Cam Brate with a pass behind him. But next play Jameis made up for it as he hits O.J. for about a 30-yard pass over the left side. Crowd roars.

* “Chevrolet” thumping on the loudspeakers.

* CFL legend Derel Walker a drops pass from Jameis along the left sideline as he broke his route just in time. Yeah, the throw was a little low but it was very catchable.

* Some dude is screaming “FABIO!” at Riley Bullough.

* Charles Sims on a bubble screen from Jameis for a nice little gain to the right.

* “Big Rings!”

* Jameis hits DeSean Jackson on right side but if he didn’t have an orange jersey on, Noah Spence would have leveled him.

* Man! Noah Spence is firing at the quarterback (Jameis) today. This time from a three-man front.

* “What the Price” has fans moving.

* This time Lavonte David visits Jameis’ back yard. Lot of heat from the Bucs defense this morning.

* Jameis threads the needle to Brate down left seam. Dirk Koetter loves tight ends on seam routes.

Would love to see Cutler feel some of that “heat” 9/10.

I do believe that was Noah Spence with the strip from behind on Cutler last year, I am sure Adam Gase will show Cutler that film.

Great practice but disappointed on the last day more big name guys didn’t come show the fans some love. Freddie Martino actually showed fans a lot of love.

Thanks for giving us a better feel for the team via your camp notes and nuggets this year Joes!

I bet the team is glad there are no more open practices. Now they can get to work on all the change-up alignments and gadget plays that they don’t want anyone else seeing until used in a game situation.

I hope Riley yelled back his name is Joe Dirt not Fabio. No one is buying Fabio merch… embrace the nickname Riley, there’s big money in it. I’m flat out telling you Doug Martin would have been a huge national superstar if he had only embraced Muscle Hamster – but Doug had that 1st round money, you got like a $3000 signing bonus – you need to make that nickname work.

    Joe is! 🙂

Pretty sure players like the fans. They LOVED the Stick Carriers. So too did Koetter and Licht.

Thanks for all the camp updates Joe. Awesome work as usual.

A downside to Hard Knocks…gonna be next to impossible to sneak Riley Bullough onto the practice squad with the hype he’s been given.

I would love to know if the defense is this good without Clinton in there (with Baker instead).
