The Real D-Line?

DE Robert Ayers harasses bratty Jay Cutler.

Bucs fans had gotten glumly used to the following: The Bucs defensive line is pretty much Gerald McCoy and nothing else.

Yeah, GMC always gets double-teamed. The fact no one else could breathe on a quarterback tells you how dismal the linemen are at working through single-blocking.

Then last week the Bucs went wild. The difference? Healthier Clinton McDonald, Robert Ayers and Noah Spence, writes Jenna Laine of ESPN.

Having Robert Ayers and Clinton McDonald back after missing multiple games to injury allowed them to get closer to their normal rotation of defensive linemen and helped keep guys fresh. Noah Spence’s improvement as a run-stopper has allowed him to be more than a pure pass-rush specialist, and they’re rushing him from both the right and the left now.

Laine also noted the Bucs adjusted tactics in the secondary to get better coverage, which allowed the defensive line to get precious extra seconds to reach bratty Jay Cutler. It worked.

This, for Joe, bodes well for today. With wide receiver Jeremy Maclin out for the Chiefs, Kansas City doesn’t have near the dangerous weapons Chicago had.

I don’t think anyone says the bucs defensive line is Gerald McCoy and no one else…especially on this site with all the gmc haters. Gmc and ayers and mcdonald and Spence x 2 all have talent but need to play good together to bring Dline to next level. Guys just disappear to often. I think ayers and McDonald bring accountability which is huge. Gmc needs to dominate
Today for us to have a chance. Earn that salary big fella

It is true that the d line has lacked talent outside of GMC. And when gmc has a little help he also performs better. A 1 man d line is useless.

I think our CBs need to continue to play in press coverage. Soft zones do not work in the NFL. You have to disrupt the wr/QBs timing and give the d line a chance to get to the QB. They’ll need help over the top, and that will open up more running lanes, but i think our front 7 can handle it without conte playing in the box.

Yea screw that soft zone. Press and keep the safety’s back… We have got to keep being aggressive. Proud.
I really like our chances for the win.
    Riddle me this…

Love that noah spence is developing. Nothing like game experience and it took him a few games of being manhandled in rhe run game. But thats how you learn

In 2010 the Bucs went 10-6, and Stylez White led the team with 4.5 sacks.
