Noah Spence In A Sling

Arm in a sling?

Ugly picture reported on flagship station

This morning during the weekly Bucs late-night/early morning postgame show on WFLA-TV Channel 8, sports reporter Paul Ryan painted a disturbing picture of defensive end Noah Spence’s injury.

Ryan reported he witnessed the rookie second round draft pick exiting the Bucs locker room wearing an arm sling.

There is no specific information on Spence’s injury, other than the press box announcement to media that he injured his shoulder. But wearing a sling doesn’t paint a pretty picture.

If he can’t go Monday night at Carolina, that’s four defensive linemen the Bucs may be down: Jacquies Smith, Robert Ayers, Gerald McCoy and now Spence.

Smith was lost in the season opener blowing out a knee. Ayers injured a foot in the Arizona loss and hasn’t played since. GMC was spotted wearing a boot last night after getting knocked out in the second quarter. Now Spence had an arm in a sling.

Despite the team taking so many precautions with the summer heat to save wear and tear in training camp and preseason, the players are still getting the hell beat out of them in the early weeks of the season.

Joe(s) it’s time, first week in October, it’s time to talk draft. It’s over, I know I am being negative. I am being real. The Browns south are hexed, and this proves it. From bad play by our franchise( cough) qb, to the worst D in the NFL right now, what can we hang our hat on? N Spence was coming along well, and starting to make plays, and now that’s gone as well. Just remember my Buccaneers brethren, Philly hosts the draft this year, and good ol’ Thunderchunky knows all the good spots. Maybe the Joes would like to find a good spot for a draft party. Hell, maybe the Wife and I could hose a BBQ for all you hard working Bucs fans who keep spending your hard earned money, and invest your time in this slop.

Next summer he has to let them tackle. Forget this not trying to kill yo teammate. I’m fine with the practice schedule in the morning.

  3. d-roca Says:

I thought spence was already on IR. Oh wait he just doesnt show up on the stat sheet or to some games. We dont need to worry about injuries right now. If the head coach doesnt figure out his own plan soon theres no shot regardless

  4. Chris Says:

Well since we’ll be picking to the top five, maybe I’ll take you up on that ThunderChucky. I think Jameis is the same QB that he was his junior year FSU. And that’s not a good thing

  5. Chris Says:

Oh, and how does Spence get hurt when he never plays?

  6. Doctor Stroud Says:

A “sling” is a perfect metaphor for the season. Before we talk about the draft, however, we will have to talk about who the Bucs will sign now to replace all of the injured players, just to get through the season. Any free agents left? Waiver wire casualties? Practice squad pickups? Any ideas? Anyone? Is this mic on?

  7. Chris Says:

Does it matter Dr, I think you trot anybody out to equal the performance of the last three games

  8. pick6 Says:

the good news is we are just as capable of fielding a last-place defense without them

    @d-roca

You are half right. But Spence wasn’t showing up because he was hardly playing. Because he is a rookie backup. For now.

  10. DemBoyzFromDaBay727 Says:

How in the hell do u explain your entire starting Defensive line AND our key backups all injured before week 5? We were already missing J.Smith, Ayers and Johnson, and yesterday McDonald, GMC, Gholston AND Spence!! WTF really?? Now who does that leave us with. Let’s hope those injuries weren’t serious yesterday because we’re in deep sh*t if they can’t suit up against the Panthers. U think its bad now, wait till Derek Anderson picks us apart with no pass rush in prime time. I will say that our line played there best game yesterday and that was without our main guys in there. Clinton McDonald had his best game as a buc, wich was much needed with often injured GMC out once again.

I’m not ready to give up on the season. Not at all. So many of you had set lofty expectations for this season. It took 3 years to build our offense, and it isn’t even finished yet. To expect one off season to fix the defense was delusional.

I knew there was little chance that we would make any playoffs. I knew we would suck during the first 5 games and be lucky to win one of those five games.

I predicted ugly football before the bye week, and steadily improving football after the bye week. It came down to these things:

    Strength of schedule
    New defense
    Rookie defensive players
    Injury prone defensive free agents
    Overhyped free agents

I said from the very beginning, I expect wins after the bye week, and even if they lose, no more losing ugly.

I also said I did not want the team to make the playoffs. Why?

Because if you cannot win at least one game in the playoffs, it is better to not go at all and get a better draft position.

The starters that are injured? Even if ready, they should sit out the next game. Better to get them truly healthy. That would give them 2-3 weeks to do so. Martin will be coming back after the bye week.

Meanwhile, bring up Josh Allen and Danny Vitale from the practice squad. Play them against the panthers. We are low on OL and TE now. Get Vitale some game experience. Allen is good enough to fill in for Hawley. Evans can play guard.

I don’t know ho many weeks into the season we have to wait for Sweezy, but as soon as he can play, they need to see what he has to offer.

Not sure which half was right but my point is we have a head coach who doesnt know what he wants to do half the time. Switches from week to week. N im not giving up on the season. 25 percent over. I, like alot, had higher hopes after week 1. It just wont get better until the head coach gets an idea of who he wants to be, then get the team to follow. They have the talent as we all know. Lets go into carolina n get a win bucs!!!

  13. 813bucboi Says:

@d-roca…your right about the coaching and spence….him getting hurt is a combination of him being undersized and dirk taking it easy has made them soft…dirk for the second week in a row has made a coaching 101 mistake….why punt the ball….your defense hasn’t stopped anyone all season, why have faith in them and your down by 3td’s…..

I guess it aint over because everyone besides atl is 1-3 and we beat atl but it aint looking promising….defense still giving up big explosive plays, no pressure on the qb(clint McDonald stepped up), not getting turn overs, offense still turning the ball over, coach still making rookie mistakes, lack of defensive talent and depth…the list goes on and on….GO BUCS!!!

  14. 813bucboi Says:

maybe lovie was on to something regarding practicing during the hottest time of the day and preaching turnovers….I don’t remember our starting defensive line going down with bumps and bruises….his defense did have a more turnovers up to this point….GO BUCS!!!!

  15. SOEbuc Says:

Im not so mad that Koetter punted. Brian Anger is one of the best players on this team so i love to see it when he comes in (sarcasm)

  16. Mike Johnson Says:

Noah Spence in a sling? So is Coach Koetter and Coach Smith!!

  17. nick Says:

Im jumoing on the Patriots bandwagon

Oft injured? Yet as of today GMC has suited up far more frequently than McDonald who basically missed last year.

Injuries are a part of the game. Let’s see if we get any benefit by discovering some guys we wouldn’t have looked at if it wasn’t for the injuries. Pretty much the most we can hope for at this point.
