Koetter Forcing Defenses To Get “Exotic”

It’s one part chess game, and two parts getting the most out of your big-league weapon.

Dirk Koetter was talking about Mike Evans this week and how the stud wide receiver’s game is diversifying and stressing defenses.

Look at the film of Evans against the 49ers. He’s lining up all over the field, including in the slot multiple times.

“He is going to get double-teamed every week; you better find ways to get him the ball,” Koetter said of Evans on the Buccaneers Radio Network. “We moved him around a lot [at San Francisco] If you’re moving him around, it’s a little bit harder for them to double him without [a defensive] getting a little bit more exotic with their calls.”

Yesterday, Joe asked wide receivers coach/offensive coordinator Todd Monken whether Evans playing all receiver positions (like Vincent Jackson did for years) represents an “evolution” to his game. Monken didn’t accept that premise. He said time in the system simply has Evans becoming more valuable and now coaches know more about what he can and cannot do.

Exciting times for Evans. Joe’s drooling at the thought of the Bucs still having two more games against the dreadful Saints defense.

Evans could set a lot of team records this season. He’s already on pace for three.

Jameis is becoming the type of QB that doesnt depend on a star reciever like mike.he looks for the best possible play ever down and lets it rip.it just so happens that we are lucky to have a guy like mike.that as long as you put it in his zone you just worry about him making the play for you.

I envision this game going similarly to the game against Philly last year. I can see it now, Our Young Hogs up front will once again dominate the line of scrimmage versus a bad Oakland raiders defense, and we will control the ball as well as the clock. In turn Quizz will have another strong game, 100 plus yards and i think he sees paydirt as well this week.

And upon establishing our running game, it will open up our play action game, which Jameis and Mike work exceedingly well in. I see Jameis Putting up at least 3 td’s through the air, because he has begun to hit is mid-season stride, much like the stretch he had last season.

I can also see our Defense being crafty and disruptive, with Ayers and Clint Mac returning to the fray. If we can generate a similar amount of pressure up front as we did against San fran, we will force Derek Carr into making mistakes. But the most important factor will be keeping him off the feild entirely with long drives from our ground and pound attack.

WE WILL WIN THIS GAME! HAVE FAITH IN OUR BOYS! GO BUCS BABY

barring injury, trade, or some insane dropoff, it’s not hard to see Mike owning every career, season, and single-game franchise record that matters before he leaves this team. i’m not going to do the research but i’d bet another 2.5 seasons like this one would make him our career leader in every meaningful category

–I’m not seeing that. At least not consistently. One of #3’s most obvious problems is that he too often locks onto his first read, especially when it’s #13. As recently as last week, that’s exactly how it played out. He had a guy literally uncovered, but threw into double coverage.
