Light Sensitive Mike Evans Opens Up On Drop

December 4th, 2015

mike evans 1229They call it Total Access on the Buccaneers Radio Network for a reason.

And that reason is because sometimes you get deeper responses from players as they relax on the airwaves.

Mike Evans talked about his mind-numbing, remote-control-breaking, vomit-inducing, switch-to-whiskey drop against the Colts on Sunday.

Joe will leave you with the raw take.

“People are making it seem like I had a lot of drops, and I only had one drop, you know,” Evans said. “But it was costly. It was costly. And I understand people’s frustration with me. I’ve had drops this year, and things like that. But I’m still out there fighting as hard as I can.

“The ball got caught in the lights. You know, we played in a dome. But that’s not an excuse. I gotta track it better in the lights. It’s hard to see. But you can do it. You can do it. Easier said than done, though.

“I beat [the defender] pretty bad.  Jameis threw a great ball. I knew he was going to throw a grat pass. I should have just had my hands ready for it.

“I seen a picture on Twitter. Somebody tagged me. I was just looking up and the ball had hit me in my stomach; it went right through my arms.

“It was just an unfortunate play. You know, I was upset about it. More upset than anyone else could be.”

Must be tough to be a professional with all the pressure of just CATCHING THE DAMN BALL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

In the famous words of Forrest Gump – S**t Happens!

  3. Tampa Tony Says:

Destroyed my remote after that drop. Focus kid

this offseason, evans put alot of work in with randy moss on how to win the one on one battles and punk the opposing CB. based on how open he is getting and the number of times opponents interfere with him, it clearly paid off. this season the point of emphasis is obvious and i’m optimistic that evans will work just as hard on that part of his game as he worked this past offseason on learning to beat the guy across from him. i’ve lost hope of an in-season epiphany or turnaround on the drops issue, but i haven’t lost hope in mike’s ability to fix it longer term.

The lights, the rain, the gloves, the sun, focus….

  6. Ray Rice Says:

Sounds like he trained with the Oakland Randy Moss not the Minn./NE Randy Moss. FUK!

Get a tuned polarized visor to cut out glare, if this is really a problem why had equipment mgr not tried this??

  8. FR Says:

How long have you been playing football?

  9. StPeteBucsFan Says:

    DCBUCSFAN FTW Yep…sh!t happens.

With Mike the history is getting a little frightening. The ghost of Michael Clayton looms so large that the fans are gripping. Fortunately Mike Evans doesn’t remember Michael Clayton.

The kid is so physically gifted that one has to conclude this is now a mental issue.
He needs to get with a sports psychologist and a hypnotist and work out the mental part of this. I use a method call the Silva Method…google it if your intererested. I can say this method works and I won’t waste your time with details but it’s simply a technique that combines meditation and self hypnosis.

He needs to get a face mask made out of that HD vision. You know like the yellow sunglasses that cut out glare? Then maybe he needs a heads up display in his helmet with tracking radar that will show him where the ball is, and maybe some attachments that will automatically wrap around the ball. All this so he doesn’t have to rely on the tools all the good & great receivers rely on! Truly a ” It ain’t my fault” kinda guy. Doesn’t Evan realize that all these drops of his have cost us games! There’s simply no way he felt worse than any of the fans who got to see the game!

Get off the kids back. He is not saying it isn’t my fault is letting you know what happened. He said he has to catch that ball no excuses. If it wasn’t for him we wouldn’t be talking about play offs at all. Jameis wouldn’t be having such a good season.

He has had 5 – 100 receiving games. He is getting better. Is it frustrating as a fan yes I don’t disagree with you, but he is working on it you can see. He is not playing a “Keyshwan” and saying it isn’t his fault. He also isn’t being Michael Clayton and just not catching anything. Remember this is only his 2nd year in the league. He is showing a lot of promise.

By comparison Clayton only had 2 100 yard games in his career. The most 100 yard games that Keyshawn had in a year was 4. Let’s cut him some slack.

  12. BucTrooper Says:

I just realized that Mike Evans is the typical millennial (in age and practice). Nothing is his fault. He’s a whiny little crybaby like those kids at Missouri.

Maybe he should just go to his safe space and suck his thumb.

  13. Paul Says:

Almost want him to get traded to a better team so that the haters can see what this team would look like with out him. He opens up the run game and abuses DB’s every game. Call him Clayhands if you want but Clayton could never do that.

  14. BucTrooper Says:

    Ha ha…

    Hey Joe….. I have a moniker for Evans a la “AC/DC loving GM,” …

    MOGWAI MIKE EVANS

Get it? … or is that too 80s?

  15. HarlemBuc Says:

Soooooo buctrooper? What do the “kids” in mizzou have to do with this though?!

  16. Harry/Jameis For President Says:

“…“The ball got caught in the lights. You know, we played in a dome. But that’s not an excuse…”

Its funny, Mike always gives the reason (excuse) why he dropped the pass, then he always says “thats not an excuse”. Well, if you are saying it, it is exactly that, an excuse!

  17. OneLove Says:

Let’s all BE REAL here! You all wish you had hands/talent like Mike Evans! YES, when I say talent, I really mean WANG!!

  18. Johnny "America's Commenter" Dejay Says:

So what’s the excuse behind dropping 6 balls at Raymond James against the Giants? Oh, yeah, it was humid and it rained a bit, yet Odell Beckham didn’t have any drops. This guy is literally the second coming of Michael “Hands of Stone” Clayton. Whatever he had as a rookie, he’s lost it.

  19. StPeteBucsFan Says:

This board cracks me up. Is life really that black and white to you guys?

Must a coach or player either be the next savior..the greatest thing..or they suck?

Is there no middle ground? Evans is a great talent who has put up some amazing numbers so we can clearly see what is possible. Again he just needs help with concentration. Maybe he had ADD..but no Aderall for you Mike..we need you on the field.

I think of that scene from “A League of Their Own’ where Hanks yells at the girl for crying. Just change some words here..

Nuance? Nuance? There’s no nuance at JBF!

  20. 813bucboi Says:

I say this offseason work with cris carter and jerry rice…they will teach him all he needs to know about catching the damn ball…GO BUCS!!!

  21. BucTrooper Says:

    Dear HarlemBuc,

I see many of the same parallels in their behavior as I see in Mike Evans’. Nothing is either of their fault. There’s an excuse for every failure, be it the lights, sweat, the sun, the heat, lack of preseason or unsubstantiated and, quite frankly, fabricated claims of certain symbols drawn in bodily excretions. No failure is owned.

Evans is a typical millennial. “I dropped ONE pass… look at all the other ones I caught! I deserve credit.” I’m sure Scott Norwood made lots of field goals… but I only remember the one he missed. I’m sure Bill Buckner picked up lots of ground balls. I remember the one he missed.

  22. StPeteBucsFan Says:

    BucTrooper

What fault did they have at Mizzou. They were black? Are you intimately aware of what had been going on for years at that campus.

Do you believe black students have a right to walk campus with being showered with N bombs or threats?

There is NO comparison to Mike Evans behavior…dropping a football and making excuses is nothing like objecting to being threaten physically and verbally because of the color of your skin.

I’m white and grew up in the ghetto on the borderline with the blacks..I lived on the white trash side. I’ve had many black friends, especially in the Army. And basic training in 1967 was pathetic. The racism was overt and over the top and I saw it with my own eyes.

I had hoped we had come a lot farther than we apparently have.

  23. BucTrooper Says:

I’m sorry. But you don’t have the right to be perpetually un-offended in America.

And if someone commits a crime, that perso is liable. Not the president of a university.
