Stunning Depth Brewing On Bucs’ O-Line

October 11th, 2015
Kevin Pamphile

Kevin Pamphile shocked a lot of people today in his left guard debut

Making his first career start at guard, and enjoying his first regular-season playing time at guard, former Milk Carton and 2014 Bucs fifth-round pick Kevin Pamphile stood tall today.

Filling in for injured Logan Mankins, Pamphile was good enough in the Bucs’ glorious home win against the Jags.

How bout the depth brewing on the Bucs’ offensive line! Consider Demar Dotson and Evan Smith soon will return — as reserves.

And Joe must give a virtual high-five to rookie left tackle Donovan Smith, who lost his security blanket (Mankins) on the field but played a strong game.

It’s like a total reversal on the O-line from last year.

Another huge day running the ball for Bucs running backs, too. The Jags were the NFL’s fourth-ranked rushing defense entering today’s game.

Game ball for offensive line coach George Warhop, among others.

No penalties from the LG position. Outstanding, great job!

  2. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Oline looked good….but our secondary was awful…..

  3. ElioT Says:

This O-Line kicked a** today, plain and simple.

    Go Sucs!

Go cry a river over cutting omameh.

He wasn’t on a milk carton, he was on the practice squad last year. The Bucs DEVELOPED him over his rookie year.

Amazing how given a guy time to grow works out so well.

Six offensive players today we rookies or second year players. Not bad at all.

Like I said we have something special in the making

Hope they look that good against someone like green bay.

    @passthebuc

We’re not there yet…but it will come by next year. And it will remain consistent because the team is being built through the draft.

The offensive line, as expected, is best at run blocking as it develops. The pass blocking will improve next, and that’s when Winston will really shine.

    @passthebuc…

I agree. Very good showing today, but it was the Jacksonville Jaguars. We still need development and good play to continue but this win and performance is moving in the right direction. Had we lost this game…oh my goodness. Not good.

  10. Buccfan37 Says:

Good O line play indeed. The weak spot seemed to be when Bortles dropped back to pass most of the time. Give credit where it is due, the Jags QB looked good if pressure failed to get to him.

  11. rjhurst813 Says:

I’ve never seen our line dominate line of scrimmage like that. Mankins and Smith should be the backups.

  12. OneLove Says:

The O-LINE was DESTROYING the Jags(And they are supposed to be pretty good against the RUN!)

I have to also recognize the the play by Doug “The Douginator” Martin and Chris “I take screens for 57 yards for fun!” Sims!!

“It’s as simple as that” – Lovie Smith aka “Head Coach of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for at LEAST another 2-3 years!!!”

The question now is how to get Kevin Pamphile in the game when Logan Mankins returns? It is probably going to be his last year with that 8.25M salary next year, when a player can come off the bench and be transparent. Use that cash for a speedy WR or a shut down CB like Josh Norman. Soon after the bye week Demar Dotson and Evan Smith will return. Even Reid Fragel looked good coming in for the double TE set. Heck we may even be able to rotate a second OL into the game similar to what Belichick and the Patriots are doing?

FIRST LINE – LT D Smith, LG Mankins, C E Smith, RG Marpet, RT Dotson

SECOND LINE – LT Fragel, LG Pamphile C Hawley, RG Gilkey RT Cherlius

  14. CC Says:

Hawley has been a major upgrade over Smith.

  15. Matt Says:

Hawley has been huge yes . We need 2 badass CBs though , guys who can step right in and play well. I d k why but 300 yards and 4 TDs passing really ticked me off. Specially because we had sacks and pressure . Just a really poor secondary. Gotta play better

  16. Matt Says:

Start pamphile next week at LG again he deserves it . Anyone know the penalty line . How many penalties were on offense today?

  17. Matt Says:

& im all for letting mankins walk but cutting him lose wouldn’t bother him one bit. He’s still gonna get his $8.25 mill rather keep him for another year and have him just teach these young kids some things. Let him retire in peace . Maybe a buyout / restructure too be O line coach could come but idk

Let’s not get carried away we beat the Jags at home. Hot seat no, but Very Very warm yeah I like to think so.

Great depth comes from coaching the players you have in front of you, and putting that player in that position to be coached.
I am very happily excited with our GM and the staff he has been putting together.

    I told you so Joe

Warhop is starting to look better now, isn’t he?
