Fixing The Defense

How is Lovie Smith going to fix his defense?

How is Lovie Smith going to fix his defense?

So the Bucs have the No. 5 defense.

After you spit up your coffee, please realize what Joe has known for decades: you can twist numbers and stats any way you wish to prove a point.

Just a few other numbers Lovie Smith may classify as a form of distortion: The Bucs have the second-worst defense in the red zone, and rank and fifth from the NFL cellar in yards per game.

How can this be turned around?

Well, in a TBO.com video with Olivia Stacey, Woody Cummings of The Tampa Tribune explains what the team is working on to improve those miserable defensive numbers.

Just realize that a rookie (Titans) and a second year (Jags) QB had career days against us says it all. We can’t stop anyone that has a talented QB, so lets hope there is a chance today!

With all due respect, the link went to a list that displayed yards per game from most to least. Yes, the Bucs have given up the fifth LEAST yards per game. The stat you should be focusing on is the points per game the Bucs defense has given up, which is 29.8, the second worst in the entire NFL when the list is sorted correctly!
