Hope for the 2015 Buccaneers died today.
It’s a harsh statement, and hope can still be restored with a win next week, but Joe’s gotta keep it real. There’s a feeling of death sweeping the Tampa Bay area.
Your Buccaneers were manhandled up and down the field today by the Tennessee Titans. Joe doesn’t need a calculator to learn the Titans are the NFL’s No. 1-ranked offense right now, courtesy of the handpicked, veteran Lovie Smith defense.
What’s truly troubling is that the Bucs didn’t show up, and that comes on the heels of Lovie Smith telling the world his team didn’t show up for every home game last year. Yes, Lovie really said that. Here’s the link.
There really aren’t positives to pull from the game. Only a true stat geek could find a silver lining, somewhere buried in a meaningless spreadsheet.
Jameis Winston, America’s Quarterback, was awful. The defense was worse. The offensive line declined through the game.
This was not a special Titans football team.
On a personal note, this is a rough day for Joe. If Joe had a bucket of sand nearby, Joe would bury his head.
Stick with Joe all evening for much more out of this game, and the locker room.

Doug martin looked good. Winston settled down. Otherwise this team especially defense is garbage. We have good players on D so this has to be a Lovie/scheme thing. Fire lovie tomorrow and get rid of the T2.

Yes, I know it’s a long season and Winston will probably get better, but let’s not run from the obvious, the Bucs gifted the best QB in this year’s draft to the Titans. Winston should get better, but he will never be as steady and productive as Mariota. Fans will have to wait some more for the Bucs to finally get their FIRST long-term franchise QB.

How do you not dispute the touchdown? Worst coaching I have ever witnessed. Yes I wanted Mariota but hope the best for Winston since that’s who we have. I still think Winston can be good but have lost ALL faith in Lovie. Looks like he is trying to get fired. Maybe he is tired of this and just wants the money.

I’m having trouble envisioning Winston looking good even with a top notch surrounding team around him. Lovie instilling confidence all around seems a far fetched idea. Perhaps my expectations are unrealistic.

Never seen more pentalty flags in my entire life… or uninspired play. That was expansion football. I am a Winston guy… he has absolutely sucked so far. Has shown nothing. I think we are like the Cleveland Browns from the top down to be honest.

We did not suck in all three phases. Special teams were decent.
Our coaches suckes on both sides of the ball. All those stupid formation penalities on offense are on Koetter. His guys were not ready.
The D was the MOST disappointing part of the game. Lovie sucked at prep and play calling for the D. Bring back Frazier! The tackling was a joke. Perhaps instead of working on punching the ball we could work on wrapping up and completing a tackle. We are the worst tackling team in the league.
The OL showed great promise and Doug played well but an RB is an afterthought when you get that far behind that early.
As for the QB’s..clearly we made the wrong choice. MM simply has more skill and athletecism than Fameis. I’m tired of hearing how football smart #3 is only to watch him make bonehead plays. The two ints were not the result of pressure or trying to force it “making a play” They were freaking a simple out and a swing pass!!!
Fameis is NOT going to be MM. But we won our SB with an FSU QB and we can still hope Fameis can rise to Brad Johnson levels. He’s starting to scare me though. He can’t seem to hang on to the football…shades of the Rose bowl..and he looks absolutely clumsy moving in the pocket.
Still a team game and so Fameis can improve. But if he stinks it up next week in N.O. like he did this week I say let him watch from the bench and see what MG8 can do. Fameis is CLEARLY NOT NFL ready. MG8 does not have Fameis upside or intangibles…but if he gives us a better chance to win this year I say freaking play him! I do NOT want to write off an entire season just to develop a rookie QB. I want to win NOW.

These comments seem a little ridiculous. It’s one game. This team stinks, I get it. But to hail Jameis as a bust after one game is idiotic. Mariota’s offense clearly was tailored to his strength and it showed. He’s a talented QB, no one’s arguing that, but with no Mike Evans, the odds were already stacked against Jameis. Does anyone remember 2012? Andrew Luck had 3 picks and one lost fumble along with a single TD in a blowout loss in Chicago. His first career game. RG3 annihilated the Saints in New Orleans. Jameis will struggle this year with a garbage O-line, but I have faith that he will progress. The Mariota lovers are so annoying, Good God. He threw to wide-open receivers the whole game, what’d y’all expect?

I was a Marcus guy this off season. When we drafted Jameis I became a JW guy because I am a Buc fan first.J W is NOT pro ready. He needs at LEAST 8 games on the bench. MM is was and always will be the better QB. How many offensive picks does it take to field a good offense? Bucs fans may never know. # Fire them ALL so we can fire the cannons.

I don’t want to say I called it, but I pretty much nailed it. Mariota had one of the most successful rookie debuts of all time and tied Fran Tarkenton with his 4 touchdown performance in his rookie debut. The cover two will be torn to shreds after this performance for the rest of the season. 0-16 is not unrealistic people.

As soon as the 4th down run for a 1st down was overturned early on to a turnover I knew the game was over. Up to that point I thought the Bucs could turn it around and they started to get momentum. Im still not sure how they came to the decision to change the call.

“No Better”… The 4th down “divot” reversal was the point of no return for us… We could’ve made it 14-21 or at least 10-21 at that point; which would’ve made it a totally different game… BUT, we sucked so bad all over the place that any kind of argument or excuse could be made at any point of this game… Basically, from owners to front office to coaches to players and to fans; we are horrible! How does this get turned around? Whoever can answer AND execute the answer to that question should be hired and be paid high high dollar!

I told you Mariota had drive – he decided to be professional AND under control – Check
I told you Mariota’s hands were NOT too small – check (no fumbles, no backwards passes – check.
I told you Mariota was NOT a running QB – he first went through his progression – his runs were designed runs – check.
I told the fools that thought you knew the difference between the spread run by Baylor versus the type of spread run in Oregon – and how successful Marcus Mariota would be in those NFL Spread-sets – check
I told you Mariota was the better pick – based on the offensive talent required to support/defend each QB – check.

Joe, I know it’s a writing style of you guys to label writers, coaches, players… And I love your site, I really do, BUT… you guys have taken the stance of Jameis being “the guy” even before being drafted, which is ok. But on top of shoving it down our throats, you guys have labeled him as “America’s Quarterback”… Maybe we all should let Jameis prove himself before proclaiming his greatness or labeling him… I’m sure even he wouldn’t want to be anointed before he deserved it. Even in an ugly loss you are still labeling him “America’s Quarterback”. Feels like you guys are just trying to say “we said it first”; which is an annoying personality trait #BuccaneerBonzai LOL
