Kaufman Points Finger At Coaches

September 20th, 2015

Is the coaching staff as a whole earning its keep?

When a team is 2-15 under a coaching staff and boat-raced not just by good teams like the Crows, but curb-stomped by schlock teams with a rookie quarterback at home, everybody starts reacting.

Of course, Bucs fans are irate at head coach Lovie Smith. But the “Custodian of Canton,” eye-RAH! Kaufman of the Tampa Tribune, suggests Lovie’s coaching staff should not be immune from blame, as he stated on a TBO.com podcast with Olivia Stacey.

“Let’s not end the blame up front,” Kaufman said when discussing the offensive line. “That goes to coaching. George Warhop, the offensive line coach, I think a lot of Bucs fans wondered whether he would keep his job after that last year’s debacle. That first week’s effort wasn’t any better than what we saw in 2014.

“If I am the Glazers, I have to wonder what is going on with that staff. It didn’t look like they were getting their money’s worth on Sunday.”

Currently, Lovie oversees a staff of 23 assistant coaches, which includes quality control assistants.

As Joe has stated previously, if the Bucs can pull off an upset today, much of the wailing and hang-wringing will end.

For the time being.

Joe is wrong, IF and that is a big “IF” they can squeak by a bad New Orleans team, will not make us Forget getting stomped by what is considered one of the worst teams in the NFl in the Titans!!!!!!

They sat the rookie QB in the 3rd quarter because the beating was so bad!!! That was the worst opening game in the history of the NFL!!!

    Never Forget!!!!

That Debacle last Sunday will have lasting Ramifications!!!!

  2. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Let me beat the Realist to it.

“A fish stinks from the head”…..

I have been patient with Lovie thus far….but I am close to losing total confidence in his leadership.

I can only hope that our team is better this year….and we did take NO to OT away and threw a game we were leading last year….

Hopefully we can put up a win or at least a very good showing.

    Man just wait on it.

  4. Buccfan37 Says:

We’re all waiting on it. Hurry up and wait. I agree, there was a robbery on Dale Mabry last Sunday. It will fade from memory given time, like the big stack of losses fans have endured over the years.

  5. Harry Says:

Warhop… SMH… How did he keep his job? I just don’t get it

  6. Seminole Bill Says:

“If I am the Glazers, I have to wonder what is going on with that staff….” No, if I am the Glazers I have to wonder how incredibly stupid I have been in picking GMs and coaches over the past ten years. If I am the Glazers, I have to wonder why it is that the Bucs have not had a winning season in the last four years.

And, if I am Ira Kaufman, I have to wonder why it is 99% of the posters to this website have already figured out coaching is the problem and why the Tampa Tribune is paying me to come with an angle that, by now, is without dispute.

  7. SchlomieBarMitzvahCircumScissorStein Says:

So, it’s the coaching? The stuttering-stammering-failed-sports-bar-owning-Scott Brantely-fist receiving-show host, feels it’s the players fault.

  8. Seminole Bill Says:

Maybe Ira Kaufman could opine that the Bucs O-line cannot protect, that Jameis must get his passes off for short yardage and more quickly, and that a 5 step drop is suicide for our young QB. Maybe one of the Glazers will call down from from the owner’s box and say, “Run a screen play, Lovie,” or “Run a quick slant over the middle, Lovie,” or even “Throw it to ASJ or Jackson and let them use their height advantage to out play the defender, Lovie.”

  9. Clodhopper Says:

I don’t think it will end. It will slow down until the next beat down we are sure to get. After 16 games, Lovie proved last week he has learned nothing from last year. Does anyone really think it finally clicked for him after just another loss?

  10. James Walker Says:

When no coach can succeed and all of them hover around 4 wins or so, the problem is OWNERSHIP. Resurrect Vince Lombardy and the Bucs go 6-10.

  11. Tampa Tony Says:

Just wait for 16 games and Lovie will be gone. Glazers don’t Fire coaches in season.

  12. Bucs Fan Since '76 Says:

    Anyone have Rich McKay’s number?

  13. BirdDoggers Says:

Kaufman is right. The coaches aren’t doing their job. This is Lovies hand picked staff. It Lovies job to create the culture. It looks like the coaches are just showing up for a paycheck. Either that or they can’t coach. It’s the Glazers team but it’s Lovies team to coach.

  14. Buc1987 Says:

I wonder if they’re New Orleans ready today.

  15. bucsbedabest Says:

There was one voice in the Offensive Line drafting and FA hirings that resonates with plain bad decision making. That of Offensive Line coach George Warhop. From Anthony Collins to Oniel Cousins, Garrett Gilkey, Kevin Pamphile, Kadeem Edwards, Donovan Smith, Ali Marpet and our most recent blunder of Gosder Cherilus who gave up 2 sacks, 3 hurries and had 3 costly penalties in the season opener. The OL had 6 penalties called on them last Sunday which should be unacceptable at this point? Did the Bucs front office fail miserably at evaluating talent? Or are these players not getting coached up properly? It won’t matter who you have at QB, Jamis Winston is running for his life just like McCown and Glennon did all last year.

  16. StPeteBucsFan Says:

The opening day beatdown has changed the equation for sure. Most people here were trying to be reasonable and forecast growing pains with six rookies including the QB in the lineup. They and Joe were preaching patience.

I think that patience has been used up. Gruden got run as much for the four game losing streak after going 9-3 to start the season. If he had lost the first four and then rebounded to tha 9-7 record he may have kept his job.

In that sense Lovie still has an outside chance. I used to say he needed to win six games…now I think it’s at least 8 and he better win a couple of them quickly.

If he managed to win 2 of the next three that would buy him some time. If he finished winning 6 of the last 8 he keeps his job.

What are the odds of that happening?

  17. James Walker Says:

How many incompetent coaches are the Glazer’s going to hire? This could go on for the next 10 years.

  18. Brent Says:

Only way I’m good with Lovie staying is if we get 6 wins and there are no more blowouts. Also, the defense must be a middle of the pack defense. Otherwise why keep him. When I think of all the coaches the last year or 2 I feel sick. Ryan o brien Quinn.

  19. Newbucsfan Says:

I keep saying it: get rid of warhop, frazier, and cullen he’s a phony. If anything the fans of Tampa bay should be angry at Lovie for having these guys on the roster still (NOW THAT’S THE HC FAULT) the rest falls on the players execution.

  20. Clodhopper Says:

I got to thinking last night. We should be careful what we wish for. Ever since the Glazers fired Gruden, each coach they’ve hired since has been worse than the previous one.

  21. The Buc Realist Says:

    @Clodhopper

After last Sunday, I am willing to roll the dice!!!!

  22. Fowlball Says:

    Lovie Redux:

Any reasonable person can understand that the ineffectiveness of the O line has been, and continues to be, the Bucs’ most glaring weakness.

OK then : let’s get the BEST O line coach there is. Make sense?

Obviously, in Lovie’s judgement, the man for the job is Warhop, a coach whose resume almost scrambles jets at McDill.

Look up Warhop’s entire history and ask yourself: “based on his past performance, would I have hired this man ?” (answer is not only “no” but “hell no).

    1. Managers get paid for good judgement.

    2. Lovie has bad judgement.

3.Therefore, Lovie should not be paid.

    Simple as that.
