So, so, sweet, Bucs fans.
Joe is bouncing off the walls. Victory!
America’s Quarterback, Jameis Winston, answered the bell, along with the Tampa Bay pass rush.
Your Tampa Bay Buccaneers are 1-1 and undefeated in the NFC South. The Saints own the division cellar at 0-2.
As much as Lovie Smith played not to lose with a fourth-quarter lead, it didn’t matter. The Bucs’ defense held with the Saints driving for the tie/win with two minutes to play.
Drew Brees got smacked around and wasn’t nearly as comfortable as he had been against Bucs teams in recent years. Jacquies Smith had three — three — sacks and now has three on the season.
Lovie got his weekly takeaway wish, with Sterling Moore powerfully punching a football out of the Saints’ hands, and Chris Conte knifing into the backfield helped force the key late fumble, recovered by Henry Melton.
Jameis finished 14-0f-21 for 207 yards and one touchdown and no interceptions.
Great win. Always is when you can do it in the SuperDome. Lovie avoids endless hot seat talk. And the Bucs right the ship in a huge way.
Stick with Joe for so much through the afternoon and evening.

I will Give credit where it’s due….the defense played much better this week. I still don’t know if Lovie survives the season, but the team seemed much more prepared this afternoon! Nice to have a win for a change!

Defense came to play! That was some old school bucs defense right there! Offense did good but could have done a lot better. It was a great step in the right direction for winston. But the defense won this game. Heck of a game!

The rush from Jack Smith from the edge…the booming leg of Brindza…we’re alive. I concede this was a game between two poor teams but I love the direction we’re heading.
Fameis improved 1000% in his judgement and flashed with that play to VJAX and if ASJ could have made a play on a tough catch but a great throw by #3 Fameis would have had another TD.
Perhaps that horrid loss last week was a tonic, not just for the defense but #3. I haven’t seen him ever manage a game like that!!! Overall great decisions.
He has only one more decision/play to master…throw the ball to the cheap seats when the play is not there..he could have avoided the fumble after a nice scramble to avoid the original sack but he’s a competitor.
I thought above the head Fameis improved dramatically!!!
Carolina and Houston in a close game. If we can beat Carolina at home in two weeks and go 2-2, my original hope…we are actually in good position.
Only concern…GMC holding his tricep…that would be the third time he’s had a tricep injury…last two basically cost him entire seasons. Fingers crossed.

Still a lot of work to be done, but that was like night and day from last week. It would have been so easy to go in the tank after that beatdown, and instead they pulled it together and got a road win. Would have liked more aggression from the offense with the lead — 23 points is nice, 30 points is better — but 1-1 is 1-1.

Thank goodness. That 4th quarter for both teams was horrendous but we can’t be picky about wins. I hope GMC did not tear a bicep. We need him or our found pass rush goes away.

Now…as to our winning record…I predicted 2-6 in the first half of the season. If the Bucs win the games I thought they would, then this will put us at 3-6…which is better than I expected.
Which…makes me feel pretty good. See how that works? I was realistic and got a pleasant surprise. THAT’s how you avoid stress in these things.
Loved the game. Mistakes were there. But the “bend, don’t break” rule applied for the first time in a long, long time.
Tell the truth, Tampa fans…how many of you wannabe fans thought it would be another Colts blowout from years ago? How many thought the Saints would come back in the 4th quarter?

My favorite part about this win was that the only reason it was close, was because Jameis is a rookie. Missing ASJ and VJax consecutively, fumbling instead of just taking the sack, were plays that he will make with ease in the future.

Chris Myers who may be the freaking worst NFL announcer and the team didn’t pick it up until late. But after that early sack where Brees got up shaking his arm and rotating his shoulder, he was never the same. I’m not sure our rush doesn’t get credit for making Brees look bad…we pounded him all afternoon even when we didn’t sack him.

Another major improvement for Fameis…his footwork looked dramatically better!!
His movement in the pocket improved and he set up properly for his passes this week. He had a GREAT game for a rookie coming off last week’s thrashing.
All I wanted was to see him flash and give us hope. He took it one step farther…flashing and giving us a WIN!!!!

Jamie’s looked much more comfortable today. He still needs to work a bit on the footwork, stepping up in the pocket and on his slides….you’d think for a guy who played baseball he’d know how to slide better….but you can definitely see a marked improvement from JW from last week to this!
BTW let’s quit with all Mariota/Winston smack already. Both are going to be very good NFL players. Mariota was down 21 points in the second half and nearly led his team back against a very strong Browns defense….so let’s just focus on being 1-1 this year and enjoy watching BOTH these young guys get better!
