Preseason Game Two

Bengals at Bucs

Kickoff: 8 p.m.

TV: BSPN, WMOR-TV Channel 32 locally (NFL Network will rebroadcast the game at midnight tonight, Tuesday at 4 p.m. and Thursday at 1 p.m.)

Radio: Buccaneers Radio Network (WDAE-AM 620 and WFUS-FM 103.5 in Tampa-St. Petersburg region); SiriusXM Channel 83.

Weather: Per WTSP.com, it will be steamy tailgate weather, but as Joe likes to call it, “good beer-drinking weather.” Temperatures will be in the low 90s under sunny skies. At kickoff, it is expected to be 87 under clear skies. By the end of the game, the temperature will only slightly decrease to 84. There is only a 20 percent chance of rain.

Odds: Per FootballLocks.com, Bucs -2.5.

Outlook: First, the Bucs will be facing puking Andy Dalton. The defense should get tested (again), but it is the other side of the ball where Joe will be focused.

If you thought “America’s Quarterback,” Bucs signal-caller Jameis Winston, faced a decent pass rush last week, tonight will be different. Led by Geno Atkins, the Bengals have a vicious pass rush. (Yes, Joe knows the Bengals only had 20 sacks last year.) This will be a good test not just for Jameis, but also for fellow rookies Ali Marpet and Donovan Smith.

One reason the Bengals have a good pass rush is that Ghost Johnson will unavailable.

Also, Joe is looking for Doug Martin to continue his limited success from last week. Martin only played a handful of snaps, but when he did get the ball, the Bucs were moving the rock on the ground.

Joe suspects the starters may play most of the first half. So the second half, well, it’s time to see if Rannell Hall can carry over his strong training camp, if Kenny Bell can get over the dropsies, and where Bruce Carter plays, middle linebacker or outside linebacker?

Other than that, the second half of preseason games is meant for swilling.

    That’s a good omen.

  4. Greg Says:

Anyone know what chanal the game is on in the Orlando market?

  5. Pickgrin Says:

I see from the picture that the Bengals have some talent up there. But can they play football?

Go Bucs!! Kick some butt Jameis.

  6. Jolly Bucs Fan Says:

With this being MNF shouldnt it be on espn for everyone?

  7. Erik with Clean Athletics Says:

    Lol, 87.

I would love to see Winston get in rhythm and be accurate with the football during the normal flow of the game instead of just the end of the half.

  8. The Real Malloy Says:

Jolly, the blackout rule IS in effect for the pre-season…..i cant confirm this as Im in ATL (i know, its awful) but Im pretty sure they block it out on ESPN for local markets…

  9. The Real Malloy Says:

btw, if it is blacked out fellas, ive been using vipstand.net for a while now to stream…

  10. Tampa Tony Says:

Lets hope for no major injuries and the starters on both sides of the ball look better than week 1.

    Go bucs!!!!

  11. Stpetebucsfan Says:

    Pickgrin

Yeah they not only have talent but they like using it!!!

COVINGTON, Ky. — A former Cincinnati Bengals cheerleader pleaded guilty Monday to having sex with her 17-year-old former student while she was a teacher at a northern Kentucky high school, a move that will allow her to avoid jail time.

For a little context…her “other” job besides being a Bengal cheerleader was as a school teacher.

Dang! I was born in Covington and raised in Northern Ky. What me and all the other guys wouldn’t have given if Ms Krippenstapel our Junior English teacher was like that cheerleader. None of us could concentrate that year. LOL

  12. Stpetebucsfan Says:

BTW My entire family…all my cuzzes are still back in Northern Ky. and are huge Bengal fans. Two of them have season tickets! This game will have a little extra on the line for me. Yeah it’s only pre season but I still want bragging rights!!

  13. Buc1987 Says:

The Real Malloy…today’s paper says it’s on ESPN and local channel 38, just like Joe put down. I don’t think it’s going to be blacked out.

I just got back from Covington last weekend after driving with my son there.
He is starting a mechanical engineering internship with the Bosch Corporation which is just south of the airport. Nice area in Florence, Ky.
Drove by the Bengals stadium on our way to the riverfront area. It may someday be a great “roadtrip” game, if my son eventully settles there, who knows.

  15. Buccfan37 Says:

Go Bucs! Give the fans a preview of action and determination that we can believe in. They bet preseason in Vegas, Bucs giving 2 1/2 points, most of that money is probably on the Bengals plus those points. Too tough to call.

  16. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

    The Real Malloy Says
“Jolly, the blackout rule IS in effect for the pre-season…”

First, there are NO blackout rules this year. At all.

Second, even if there were, areas outside the immediate viewing area would still see the game since it is MNF.

  17. tickrdr Says:

So, Joe, you’re telling me that as the last remaining member of the MGM, that I will probably have the entire stadium to myself in the second half. LOL

  18. Buccfan37 Says:

Damn, that submit button is lightning quick at times.

  19. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

Putting the address of a streaming website is one of the things Joe bans for. Just an FYI.

  20. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

    @tickrdr

My son is planning on structural engineering and real estate. 🙂

  21. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

Heard Lovie say in an interview today that Bruce Carter is starting todays game on the outside.

  22. tickrdr Says:

    @Buccaneer Bonzai:
Sounds like a solid combo for a bright future. Good luck to him!

Congrats to your son. I still love the Cincinnati area and Northern Ky. in particular. I’m now the luckiest man in the world. 3 months in the middle of nowhere here on Michigan’s UP and the place I really call home now…St. Pete.

I LOVE Tampa Bay!!! But other than that I still enjoy visiting my family a lot.
When you get ready let me know and I can give you some tips of cool places to hang.

  24. WyomingBucsFan Says:

Look for the Bucs to take Cincy to the wood shead tonight, preseason or not Lovie is on one tonight. Go Bucs and sign Moss!

  25. EMathis Says:

Hey Jason Licht, I am the B-E-S-T Offensive Lineman available and I can be had for 5.5 million dollars. An instant upgrade to your line, I can protect the kid, hell he can eat a fistful of crab legs and throw a hail mary with the time I can give him. I am not going to wait much longer, your big brother in Miami is starting to look pretty tempting. Come on licht, open that Glazer wallet and buy America’s Quarterback soem Quality protection.

    E. Mathis (All-Pro Lineman)

    Haha, well played my friend!

  27. feelthepewterpower Says:

Here’s to zero injuries and a solid showing by the team.

  28. Howard Cosell Says:

    Go Bucs.

    ….*sigh*…

  29. Howard Cosell Says:

You guys know that Moss is like 40, right?
He was never a V-Jax type reciever who would
use basketball moves and smart routes, Moss
was a burner who used quickness. He had a Revis
type skillset. Those type guys are phenomenal but
    when they’re done they’re done.

What about Incognito? Oh yeah, the Bills signed him.

    ———-

    Howard,

With all due respect, I can’t help but disagree sharply with your view on Randy Moss. Moss is the most athletic WR to EVER play the game, and I’m confident he could still have a monster year.

Sorry, but an almost 40 year old Randy Moss is a possible #1 or #2, and ANYONE’S #3.

I’m not worried about Randy’s diminishing skillset as much as I am about his body recovering throughout the season.

The man is still capable of putting up a pro bowl season.

  31. MadMax Says:

Moss is available? Damn Licht, sign him!!

  32. Destinjohnny Says:

Why does the bucs broadcast have so much on the bengals

  33. The original "Kevin" Says:

Not a big fan of the new message boards…..Hope we see some good football tonight

  34. Another J Says:

  36. Bamabuc Says:

That looked good!!!! Let’s see the D!!!

  37. ATrain Says:

    Who was Dat?

    Holy Cow a different team…

    Let go D

  38. tval Says:

Already have 2 moss type guys. But i feel ya. Great drive, bucs!!!

  39. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

I’m not going to be forced to the message boards, so I guess this is my last gameday on the website.

Irony is, there is no advertising on the message board, so it’s actually costing Joe money.

  40. Destinjohnny Says:

Nice drive winston prove me wrong baby

  41. The original "Kevin" Says:

What this site will be gone???? If so I will be finding somewhere new to chat on gamedays as well!!!

  42. tval Says:

already better than dalton..lol!! This is the best dt in the game. Warren looks great. Ahhhhhhhhhhh…almost had it

  43. Destinjohnny Says:

    Damn jameis nice series!

  44. Another J Says:

Joe’s, The open game thread was the best part of this site during game time.

  45. tval Says:

    Shlda caught that dime, wright

  46. tval Says:

This is one of the best dlines. Oline doing very well

  47. tval Says:

Cut that sorry punter. Field pos is huge

  48. tval Says:

This team can make the playoffs, no question

  49. Destinjohnny Says:

Nice day jameis winston hit the showers will see u next week

  50. Stpetebucsfan Says:

Get Fameis sore ankle out of there. Why leave him defenseless when the Bengal’s pass rush will tee off.

I know it’s preseason and the refs are trying to clean up the game and send messages and all that but this is really boring!!!

Now given that we have the majority of these flags as Gruden pointed out Lovie better read them the riot act. We could have been ahead 21-0 with the way Fameis and our Oline started this game.

    Stop the freaking penalties.!!!! NOW!!!

  51. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

This is why I’ve been saying to play Glennon until the line gels. Hope he’s okay. Evans too.

  52. Stpetebucsfan Says:

Dang the D looks good!!! An actual pass rush.

  53. Bucs Fan #7423 Says:

WE PICKED THE RIGHT QUARTERBACK!!! OMG THE OFFENSIVE LINE BLOCKED! POP THE CHAMPAGNE BOTTLES!!!!!!!!!!!!!! 😀

  54. Another J Says:

    Bucs Fans,
I think our suffering is over.

  55. tval Says:

Nice!! Look @ jameis..thats why his teammates love him. Glennons folks are watching this too, ya know. Know they loved seeing that.

  56. The original "Kevin" Says:

    Hope Evans is ok

  57. The original "Kevin" Says:

I think its fair to say Lovie calls a better defense than Frazier for all the “it wont make a difference ” people out there

  58. The Real Drew Says:

How do you post in the forum thread?

  59. Tampa Tony Says:

Still too many penalties. Can’t keep killing drives with stupid mistakes

  60. Stpetebucsfan Says:

Guys we have two QB’s. I’m no member of the MGM and no I do not believe he should start over Fameis. But is Nick Foles really that much better? Bortles has some nice physical tools but is he that much better than Glennon.

What’s my point? The haters here have totally corrupted the thought process.
I would NEVER trade MGM for a 3rd round pick. Glennon would have been golden last year in Arizona.

And so after tonight watching just how CLOSE Fameis got to getting completely rolled up like M Pouncey and breaking an ankle or getting a season long high ankle sprain do we now realize that Fameis is flesh and blood?

The OL played well tonight and we still had the freak roll up. If Fameis goes down Glennon is clearly the best backup in football right now. Mark Sanchez?
Really? McClown really? C’mon Man. This team has the potential to reach the playoffs even if we are one and done like the Bengals every year.

  61. The original "Kevin" Says:

    Good ol mike jenkins….

    Watch where ur going mike!

  62. Stpetebucsfan Says:

So far this year we’ve been beaten deep twice…MIKE JENKINS!!!!

At least after the ole whiff of a tackle on Jenkins lowlight film in Dallas seen by everybody we know Jenkins is not a tackler.

When do we get to see his “coverage skills”?

  63. Stpetebucsfan Says:

23-3 I suspect lots of Seth Lobato in the 2nd half.

As well as Fameis played I’m just as excited about the performance of our D.

Dalton and the Bengals have averaged ten wins a season for four straight years.
They are not chopped liver. Dalton may be a choker in the playoffs but he’s been all pro two of his first four years and we frustrated him big time.

  64. The original "Kevin" Says:

They played tough. Pass rush looked good. O line looked better. Defense did good. HARD HITS STRIPPING BALLS!!!! I will sleep good tonight

  65. The original "Kevin" Says:

I will say…its the playcalling. Dirk Koetter has to stay in Tampa long term no matter what needs to happen. I want Koetter in tampa for the next decade. I wish Lovie would just step down to DC so we know we wont lose either of them

    Another flag

    That’s all on coaching

  68. Stpetebucsfan Says:

Again I simply do not get the let’s give away MG8 for anything we can get.

IF Fameis goes down we have the best backup in the league. Why give that up unless we get some HUGE return?

  69. Buc1987 Says:

Stpetebucsfan…the reason you don’t get it is because you think they are a playoff team this season.

Some of us that don’t think that see no need to keep him around if the team won’t be sniffing the playoffs.

    ==============================================

Sure- unless you do all that and then every post you make automatically shows as “unapproved” for the last 2 weeks . Please have your message boards admin fix this for me Joe. Pretty frustrating.

  71. Pickgrin Says:

1st teamers looked good on both sides of the ball. Very happy with this effort at home.

Winston looked great. That 3rd down and 16 pass that was on the $ and dropped by Tim Wright was something. As was the rocket shot deep slant pass to Russell Shepard.

Glennon looking sharp as well. High fives all around in the QB meeting room tomorrow…

  72. The original "Kevin" Says:

I knww Koetter would make Glennon shine. We as bucs fans should all be thankful the wait is over. We have a tough playing team. Winston looks good and if he does get hurt we have another starter ready to go. Cant wait to watch the cleveland game 1st half

  73. Stpetebucsfan Says:

BTW those who like me are truly DISGUSTED by the lack of discipline with the yellow fever I can at least share a silver lining to all of those penalties.

What else would our Debbie Downers have to beotch about tomorrow? This has been a great night. We have TWO QB’s!! We have the makings of a genuine Lovie Smith defense. It’s all good except for the penalities.

And of course every one of those flags is on Lovie Smith for a few of our posters.

  74. Tampa Tony Says:

Yellow flags are mostly on offense so they are on those coaches.

  75. Stpetebucsfan Says:

Yellow flags are mostly on offense so they are on those coaches.

Won’t matter Tony for several of our posters. FACTS and previous records of success are all meaningless.

Here is their analysis of Lovie’s performance tonight. He got really lucky that Koetter did a good job and Fameis and the OL and MG8 all looked good.

That part of our offense is Lovie’s luck…the penalties are on Lovie. In fact I bet one of them heard Lovie break wind on the sideline he’s such a loser.

  76. Buc1987 Says:

Lovie’s team came out prepared, especially the defense. It’s only preseason, but keep it up Bucs and things might start clicking.
