A close friend of Lovie weighs in
Joe did not know a close friend and confidante of Lovie Smith, a guy coming to patrol the sidelines at One Buc Palace this summer, once coached Jameis Winston, America’s Quarterback.
Joe’s talking about Herm Edwards, the former Bucs assistant and Jets and Chiefs head coach.
Speaking in the BSPN video below, Edwards references coaching Jameis in the “Under Armor All-American game,” an event for high school stars.
Edwards dives into Jameis having “big” help in not one, but two wide receivers, Vincent Jackson and Mike Evans, to allow him to do what he does best — throw downfield. And Edwards says that while Jameis is being bombarded with the entire offense right now, look for Lovie to “limit his ability in the playbook,” possibly “slimmed down to 40 percent” available to Jameis early in the season.
Joe agrees that the Bucs want to dial things back for Jameis, but they want to win a game more. If Tampa Bay can’t run the ball and the offensive line is shaky, then Joe would expect new offensive coordinator Dirk Koetter to get creative. Jobs and lives would be on the line.

I would agree if Jameis was your average rookie, but he is not. He can handle more than 40% of the playbook. Lets hit the ground running. You don’t drive 40mph in a Ferrari, you open that bad boy up!!! FYI…..jameis was MVP for that under armour game I believe.

evans and vjax are not going to beat any DB in a foot race downfield. WTH is herm talking about. seriously, when have you EVER seen jax blow by a DB and outrun him deep?
more like curl routes, slants, over the middle and maybe PA if the run game is clicking.

Robert 9 is once again proving his lack of knowledge. VJax routinely gets behind the coverage for open throws down the field. He pretty much earned his living doing just that in San Diego before coming to Tampa. Granted, last year he showed signs of slowing down, but to ask the question “when have you EVER seen jax blow by a DB?” shows your ignorance. Aren’t you supposed to by a Dolphin fan by now? Go post on their fan sites.

he might muscle them @ the line or beat them at the point of attack if their a few yards off the ball….but the most he’ll be open is 10-15 yards, MAYBE 20 yards deeps. the DB will catch up and/or the safety will be all over him by then.
not a pass I consider a deep ball. maybe my definition of deep is different from other men. that’s what the ladies say anyway.

What is Robert 9 talking about? Vjax led the league in yards per catch for at least 4 years in a row excluding last year. Evans was beating DBs deep all year. Were you watching the same games as the rest of us?

V-Jax and Evans are monsters at the deep ball because they can out jump most DBs. You dont have to be Speedy Gonzales to do that.

Vincent Jackson has never been considered a burner but throughout his career he has always for some reason been able to stretch the field. I think a combinatIon of age and lack of a QB play is what hurt him the last couple of years. Glennon is good at throwing short to intermediate routes but he doesn’t have good timing in the deep routes. Hopefully Jackson has a little more gas left in the tank to get him by for another couple of years.

so the news about Winston being ahead of all the rookies in the playbook was all smoke and mirrors by joe about America’s quarterback? if he is so advanced and learns so quick why would he be limited? or is that saying herm Edwards knows alittle but not all that much about what the bucs are doing and he’s just guessing

I am one of the few “JW Doubters” left that have very few doubts about what he can do On the Field. I believe he will have a rocky first yr but it will but Studded with Top Ten Highlight plays on “BSPN”

The god news is the new OC has brought along a rookie QB before, understands the nuances of the NFc South, and has been VERY successful at every stop in his career….the bad news is Thurston Howell’s wife is the HC….and may not let said OC be in control. Only time will tell….

Everybody is talking about Jackson & Evans……but the reason why we failed as an offense is that’s all we had….2 1000 yd recievers.

I completely agree Jim. However Lurker said it the day before Memorial day and I said that since it is the day before that his comment wasn’t so offensive. He made a point to come and say it again yesterday. There was never an acknowledgement by him that it might be out of bounds to some. Just incessant chattering of the same statement.

i think we would be in trouble if we tried to put a check on every military term that has leaked into the sports vernacular based on what day it is. centuries of sporting culture have linked the two tightly. is it inappropriate to hear Peyton Manning or any other highly poised QB referenced as a “field general” on memorial day? should we save references of players “battling” for roster spots? if a QB at OTAs threw “a bomb”, should we go grab our thesaurus? are football scouts an insult to military scouts? i’m really curious about the ground rules here

no problem with american sniper being used for jameis christ. sorry your feelings are hurt. chris kyle’s book has many stories, some of which are ficticious. and why would he have had a problem with the term american sniper used in a respectable way for our strong-armed, accurate, long distance shooter? according to merriam-webster “First Known Use of SNIPE 1832”.
