Trestman “O” Was A Nightmare For Leslie Frazier

November 20th, 2014

leslie frazier 0603Yes, the Bucs are running Lovie Smith’s old school, Tampa-2 defense, but Leslie Frazier is still the defensive coordinator. He has a role in what was a hot mess, aka the Bucs defense, before Sunday’s Redskins game.

As Vikings head coach and defensive guru, Frazier studied and faced Bears head coach Marc Trestman’s offense twice last year.

So Joe thought it was pertinent to look up how Frazier fared considering the Bucs play the Bears on Sunday.

The results were downright scary.

In Week 2, the Vikings allowed 411 yards, including stopping the Bears on just five of 12 third downs. Jay Cutler completed 70 percent of his throw (27-for-38).

In Week 13, the Bears racked up huge yardage. Josh McCown (then of the Bears) was 23-for36 for 355 yards and two touchdowns. And Matt Forte ran for 120 yards on just 23 carries. The Bears, however, were just 2-for-11 on third down. The Vikings, at home, won 23-20 behind 211 yards rushing by Adrian Peterson.

Minnesota finished ranked 31st on defense and Frazier was fired.

Joe sure hopes Frazier spent time in his basement this past summer figuring out the Bears’ offense, or that bratty Jay Cutler plays like RGIII.

    First time this yr that I am picking us to win an away game.
    Go Bucs

  2. Skyline Crew for Mariota or Winston Says:

    We could only dream of having a RB that could rush for 100 yds.

    There has got to be some insider information since Lovie Coached them, Josh played for them, and Leslie coached against them. I hope to see a repeat of our Superbowl, when Lynch was recorded on the sidelines “Just like we saw at practice”. The Bucs knew what the Raiders were going to do before the ball was ever snapped. Gruden had insider information on the oppossing team, you can multiply that by three in this situation. No excuses, this should be a win for us. 28-10.

    Probably have a better chance of hitting the lottery than figuring out which Cutler is going to show up.

    I picked against the Bucs twice this year. The Steelers and Redskins games. Gotta pick against them this week.

    cutler knows its over for him being considered a starting qb if the Bears lose to the Bucs and trestman knows for sure that he is fired if this happens. So I think cutler will play more patiently and not turn the ball over so the Bucs will have to score TD’s when they get thee ball to make cutler speed up his game and trip up.

    My perfect scenario is Lovie and the Bucs beat Bears which leads to Trestman fired at the end of year.

    Lovie hires Trestman and all is well.

    @Rutgers4Schiano,

    That comment sure smells of someone loading up for excuses if we win, yet ready to tear Lovie a new one if we lose. Judging by your name, that’s kind of a win win scenario for you, now isn’t it?

    Just to humor you, I’m going to tell you why it’s different. First of all, this is Trestman’s second year, and the team is vastly different from when Lovie was there. The Raiders were essentially the exact same team Gruden left, with his assistants still remaining on staff. Trestman has a different staff, different players, and most importantly, a different scheme. It would be like saying Raheem had insight on our team on Sunday. Completely ridiculous.

  9. HawaiianBuc Says:

    There are only 13 remaining players from when Lovie was in Chicago.

  10. unbelievable Says:

    @hawaiian that may be true but some of them are still starters in key positions (QB, WRs, TE, RB for example). It Should help a little, but who knows.

    If we don’t get a lot of pressure on Cutler up front then it wont matter.

  11. biff barker Says:

    Memo to the faithful, Skins fans are still in meltdown mode over RGIII’s performance last week. Our defense looked better than it played.

    Our offense still can’t run the ball and that’s not going to change. Not an ideal scenario when you are playing in cold and wet conditions in the Windy City. Just double Evans.

    Even playing all Bucked up over Lovie’s return there, I don’t see another win this week.

    Sorry.

  12. HawaiianBuc Says:

    @unbelievable,

    How does it help if they are running a completely different scheme? Matt Forte is going to try not to be tackled, so maybe that would help. Oh yeah, Marshall and Jeffrey are going to try to catch the ball thrown to them by Cutler. Bucs fans always think the prior head coach knows the entire team because of the Super Bowl with Gruden. First off, they were still running Gruden’s offense. There was no scheme change. Even the plays were the same. Second, and most important, we were a better team than Oakland. Best defense beats best offense any day of the week. The Raiders had no answer for us, and the 48-21 score was closer than the game really was. We were on a mission that year, and no matter who we played, they were getting their arse beat (ask SF and Philly).

  13. HawaiianBuc Says:

    I agree with the pressure on Cutler part. All of our games are going to be dependent on that, as that is what our defense is predicated on. No pressure = no win. Simple as that.

  14. Pickgrin Says:

    Different teams with different players. Tape from this year will go a lot farther towards game planning than the coaches “familiarity” based on 1-2 years ago. Josh McCown is in the best position of anyone to utilize his familiarity on the field with the Bears current defense having practiced against them all last year.

    If Bucs can average more than 2.7 yards per carry – and play in all fazes like they did last week or better – we have a very good chance to win this game. But that sounds like a big if. Go Bucs! It was great to see major improvement last week. Now we need to see some consistency

  15. unbelievable Says:

    Ah, the good ol glory days of Bucs past….

    I agree about the scheme, of course its different. McCown would certainly have better knowledge of that.

    But Love *should* at least know Cutler’s tendencies, and the ways to get him off his mark and off his game. That’s all I meant, of course its nothing like when we played the Raiders. They didn’t change a damn thing about their offense!

  16. HawaiianBuc Says:

    @unbelieveable,

    I gotcha brother. I think Lovie knows that you never know what you’re going to get from Cutler. He’s got to be the most hot and cold QB I’ve ever seen. He could look like John Elway, or he can look like Brandon Weeden. You just never know.

  17. Please Says:

    Are they running the same offense as last year? If so, forget Lovie’s insider information – McCown should know the playbook better than most guys currently on the Bears.

  18. Owlykat Says:

    The old Bucs used to fold in cold weather. It will be bitterly cold in Chicago. I still remember the terrible beating we took from the Bears in London. The Bears are getting their twin towers back. Hope we can overcome all that but I am not counting on it! If we lose and we can take Marriota as a result next year another loss won’t get me down.

  19. unbelievable Says:

    That’s certainly true. Let’s hope he looks like Jamarcus Russel on Sunday!

  20. White Tiger Says:

    This is a classic trap game – our starting QB was their starting QB – they know what made him finally start ticking. Our defensive coordinator never did figure out Chicago’s “O”…Chicago is getting their top two receivers back this Sunday.

    It’s goig to be interesting to see if the defense figures it all out again, with so many cards stacked against them…but we have seen some improvement, and we’re headed back to the NFL Norris Division, our old stompin’ grounds….this is going to be a pivotal game…tougher than some think…but we’ve got a solid chance.

    Just no way will it be an easy victory for our Bucs.
