New Vikings Injury Should Help Sunday

October 24th, 2014

JoshRobinsIt’s about time those “Dunkaneers” get the ball aired out to them more often. Let these big-bodied Bucs go all Chocolate Thunder on the Vikings cornerbacks.

After all, the Bucs paid handsomely for Vincent Jackson, Mike Evans and Austin Seferian-Jenkins, and the Vikings have issues in their secondary.

(Hey Marcus Arroyo, here’s a tip. Don’t wait to go high and deep. It’ll work in the first quarter, too.)

Yesterday, Vikings starting cornerback Josh Robinson, all 5-foot-10 of him, limped off the Minnesota practice field after injuring his ankle, as reported by local reporters there. Their other starting cornerback, Xavier Rhodes, he’s taller but still waiting on his first career interception after being a first-round draft pick last season.

Mike Evans is healthy. His groin held up against the Ravens (four catches for 55 yards), and after two more weeks of rest, he should be a handful Sunday.

Lovie Smith, Jason Licht and Jeff Tedford made a clear decision this offseason that they wanted gigantic targets. Use them!

Don’t get your hopes up Joe. This offense has prided itself on having a predictable run-first offense since 2009.

Banks getting an interception before Rhodes is the surprise of the day.

I’m not disagreeing with you, but I believe (theorize) that the reason for doing it that way is the misguided belief that defenses will be worn down from the heat late in the game. They might be, but so is ours.

  4. ToesOnTheLine Says:

Hope Evans lights it up…perfect Sunday if both the Bucs and my FF team win. Many adult beverages shall be raised in celebration at my place 🙂

  5. Touch_Down_Tampa_Bay Says:

Unfortunately, we don’t have accurate enough QBs to perform the task. McCown is the only experienced QB to do the task. I wouldn’t roll the dice on that scenario either. We gonna have to stick to football on Sunday.

The ULTIMATE Kiss of Death (KOD). Everytime I read an article where we have any advantage against another team due to said player(s) not playing, we get B-slapped with the fill-in player having a field day against us. Doesn’t matter if it is an opposing backup/rookie QB, a banged up opposing offensive line, etc.

  7. WalkdaPlank Says:

Say what you want about leaky, sleepy Josh Freeman, he actually had a CANNON. He would be having a field day with the “Dunkaneers”.

If he wasn’t busy sleeping on his couch. 😉

  8. BuccaneerBonzai Says:

Personally, I think any advantage is fictional. But hey, I write fiction for a living, so I can generate some hope.

I was thinking. It’s no secret that Lovie wanted Rod Marinelli as his Defensive Coordinator. Frazier, fired from the Vikings (thanks for that, Minnesota! Grr), was not his first choice.

Rod’s contract with the Cowgirls expires this year. I can see Lovie firing Frazier and hiring Rod. That would improve things dramatically for the defense.

As to Offensive Coordinator, I don’t believe Tedford will ever return. I’ve made no secret of that belief over the last month. I don’t think Lovie made a mistake hiring him, because no one could have foreseen the heart issues. BUT…I also don’t think Arroyo is a suitable replacement.

That’s okay, because if Tedford really is not coming back eventually, there will be several options that become available in this coming off season. If we are in a position to draft a good QB, it could get someone good in here to run the offense. Arroyo will go back to being the QB coach, unless the new OC wants someone else.

The players respect Lovie, and believe in him. Yes, there are some players that either cannot rise to the challenge or that lack the drive, but there are a bunch of good players on this team that are buying in.

After year of development, the team will be much better.

It’s pretty bad when you have to rely on your opponent’s injuries to be able to win a game

  10. feelthepewterpower Says:

Joe, Xavier Rhodes is already starting for them at right cb, and he plays at that spot the majority of the time. It will be another back-up (less talented….hopefully we can flacco them)….

  11. Ray Rice Says:

Advantage??? Weren’t we supposed to have an advantage over the Panthers, Rams, etc… The only thing I can hope for is a competetive game. Oh! And not seeing Good O’le Gerald cautiously bring the opposing RB to the ground and help him back up after getting run over.

  12. SAMCRO Says:

It’s all predicated on our offensive line. If the defense manhandles our guys, and the running game can’t get going, Glennon may have to resort to the quick short passing game again like last year. Even though at the end of the day, they’ll just blame it all on Glennon for throwing so many dump-off passes, or for not taking a lot of unnecessary risk. If he throws it up and it’s completed, he’s the hero, but throw it up to the dunkaneers, and it gets intercepted, they’ll want to run Glennon out of town after the game.

I believe that’s the biggest reason why Glennon is so hesitant to take some risk, for the fear of all the backlash he will most certainly incur from the media, and his detractors. Trust me, these people are on the edge of their seats just waiting for the ammo to trash Glennon on. I hope the offensive line gives Glennon time to stand tall in the pocket so he can carve up Minny’s secondary. Go Bucs!

Since 2009? Having our RBs fall up the middle for a yard on 1st down has been the Bucs offense for as long as I can remember.

  14. Andrew 1 Says:

Chocolate Thunder? That’s the only thing I got from this lol. Link is dead.

  15. WalkdaPlank Says:

Yes, but Chucky’s offense was far less predictable and could actually win games………..most of the time…..

  16. ddneast Says:

Freeman didn’t go to sleep on the couch, he passed out on the couch and he’s sleeping off another bender.
As for the other teams weakness becoming a strength against our team, that is a complete falsehood. The reason being is we never go after the weakness. We keep running the same old game plan no matter who is playing or what defense they are in.

  17. ToesOnTheLine Says:

    @ WalkdaPkank

Freeman certainly was a physically gifted QB however even the current crop of Dunkaneers would be hard pressed to make some of those typical Josh 15 yards out of bounds or 10 feet too high tosses. But he did fire them off with some zip if that makes you feel better.

  18. Skyline Crew Says:

If I was in charge I would run on 1st down every time.

  19. WalkdaPlank Says:

    @ToesOnTheLine

I am not defending Freeman or saying he should be here instead of Glennon. Not at all.

But as a *former* Freemanite, I will say this: He could connect on those deep passes. He did it with Benn, then with Vjax and Williams en route to a 4,000 yard season. And he only had one Dunkaneer, imagine him with three. But like I said, he is probably sleeping on hos couch right now.

  20. Mike J Says:

Scotty in Fat Antonio, sure seems that way, don’t it?
”Falcons are starting a writhing mass of voles in a body suit [stolen from The Onion] in place of the injured defensive tackle; this should be an advantage for the Bucs.”
Writhing mass of voles gets six sacks, 15 TFL’s, a forced fumble, two fumbles recovered, and an interception.

  22. Architek Says:

We have become a charity case for football – sad state of affairs. Can we just hibernate or go into sleep mode on the boring Bucs?

  23. ElioT Says:

The Sucs will play down to the level of competition. They’ll make the beat up Vikings look like a solid team. Different year…Same old s**t…

    Go Sucs!

You get paid to post comments on JoeBucsFan? How did you get such a sweet gig?

  25. GhostofJohnGruden Says:

Everything is falling into place for a Bucs win and a Falcons/Saints LOSS. All the Bucs have to do is win this one single game and they could be in second place in the division. For whatever reason the Panthers are self destructing. It is now or never.

Brother, I want you to be so right on that……………….

  27. ddneast Says:

LOL. Like I Said WalkthePlank, he’s not sleeping, he’s passed out. There is a big difference. he couldn’t read defenses because he had beer bottle goggles on.
“”Regis”” Been, catching a long pass when he was here? Are you kidding me?
The only thing that guy ever caught was a cold from falling asleep in the tub.
Another wasted No. 2 pick by Dummynick and Morris.
Benn was just horrible. Dude, do yourself a favor, stay away from the ‘shrooms.

  28. WalkdaPlank Says:

Sorry might not be able to do that lol. But yes he connected with Benn on some deep passes in 2010, one off the top of my head is the Cards game that year you can look it up. It was not the only one. I’m not defending the king of the “Benn’d Around” either. He was a bad pick, just stating a fact that he caught some deep passes from Freeman and he wasn’t tall enough to be a “Dunkaneer”.

And yes Freeman probably OD’d on some Adderall or something.
