Mike James A Rising Star?

November 8th, 2013

Now Joe is trying to temper his enthusiasm for Mike James. The Bucs’ rookie running back had a wonderful game against the Seahawks in Seattle. But peel the onion skins back, and Seattle is soft on the run.

Still, James showed promising signs. And by listening to chipper Bucs coach Greg Schiano yesterday (he was in such a good mood he didn’t wait for a question before he started talking about his team), the fact James had such a good game was not a shock.

“Just the signs,” Schiano said of his confidence in James. “He came in here and he just tried to do everything we asked him to do, not only schematically and technique-wise, but taking care of his body and rest and all the things that [we asked of him]. And he just got better and better and better, and you could see it, and we started to play him more and more.”

Time will soon tell (we should know by the end of the season) if James’ game against Seattle was just a fluke or one of many strong games. But if James is this solid, the Bucs have a chance to have a dominant running attack, a one-two punch with Doug Martin and James.

There is more to like about the development of James: The more James gets the ball, the more the Bucs can save the tread on Martin’s tires.

A win-win for the Bucs.

Too many people gushing love for James. Kid had one great game. One.
All it really means is, “Nice start” because lots of players are 1 game wonders. Slow your roll folks, Let’s see what he’s got the remaining 8 games.

I’d like to see some two-back sets…..I think James is the real deal…lets face it he’s a 6th round pick/rookie….what would you expect. As he gains carries…& confidence….he will be well worth the pick as a strong backup….

He looks really good to me, but it was one game. If they have any shot of winning some of their last 8 games he needs to have more games like he did in Seattle.

Give some love to the O-line, they did a good job too and opened some holes.

“…we started to play him more and more…” like coaching had something to do with it. In the first 7 weeks of the season, James had a cumulative 3 rushing attempts for 6 games – 1/2 attempt per game! Ridiculous. And he talks like they were grooming him. If Martin did not get hurt, James’ total carries would still be in single digits for the season. He did the same thing with Blount, and Blount proved the prior two seasons he could get the job done. And he is doing the same thing with Bowers (although we do NOT know if Bowers can get it done). Terrible coaching.

Btw, another Dom find in the 6th round. Just keep him away from Rd 2, lol

    He aint no Legarrette Blount.

NOT A DOM FIND , A BUTCH DAVIS FIND

James is the real deal. Maintains balance after contact- showes great vision, and great burst.

One of few bright spots. I wonder how Shiano will screw him up?

James is the real deal. Balance after contact, great Vision, great Burst!

One of very few positives this season.

I wonder how Schiano will screw him up?

Probably have him running WR deep routes! Worked on Martin!
