Nothing Left But Draft Position

September 29th, 2013

Just outside the Bucs locker room, right before the doors swung open to let the pen and mic club in, and just before defrocked franchise quarterback Josh Freeman tried to run for his life, a priest was spotted.

Joe thought it was fitting as it was time to perform last rites on the 2013 season.

For the handful of diehards who thought the Bucs could rally from beginning the season 0-3 — though recent history showed it was futile –Joe isn’t even going to do the research on a team turning things around after losing its first four games, with a rookie third round pick as your starting quarterback.

The 2013 season is toast. Done. Kaput. People are now fighting for their jobs. And for a draft position.

Joe was told by an otherwise sane and thoughtful producer at WTSP-TV, Channel 10 that he envisioned the Bucs starting the season at 0-7 if they lost to the Jets in New Jersey.

Sure enough, that prediction sounds reasonable, as gut-wrenching as that is to type.

The 2013 season is over. And it is still September.

With a high draft pick and this D, this coaching job is very attractive. The new coach can pick their QB and the Defense is fantastic.

Can’t wait for a real coach. Been too long since we’ve had one.

  2. Raphael Says:

Uh …didn’t we trade our 1st rd pick to the jets ?? Doh !

  3. Chase Says:

Uh…wasn’t the trade we sent to the Jets for this year ?? Doh !

  4. Ocalamike Says:

Correction, it’s still September. Season is over.

  5. Raphael Says:

    Doh !

  6. Raphael Says:

It will not help as long as Schiano is here

  7. Marc Says:

Yup, another season in the books. All wrapped up in September. And how can anyone believe the whole ‘maybe next year’ crap when we’ve been hearing that for 10 years? This team is hopeless.

  8. BigSombrero Says:

Yes. We have a first round next year. We wont have a 3rd but thats not that big of a deal since we have revis.

  9. Houstonbucsfan Says:

And just like that, it’s all over. So much disappointment in such little time…
    R.I.P 2013 BUCS team.

  10. NJBucsFan Says:

Raphael….are you a troll or just a fing idiot? We traded this past #1 pick to the Jets. The Jets are only getting our 3rd rounder. Pull your head out of your a$$ and stop being a troll.

  11. Raphael Says:

Wonder how soon Schiano gets fired ? Tonight would be good

  12. Raphael Says:

Njbucfan……blow me and take Schiano back to New Jersey with you .

  13. RBellBuc Says:

Who the hell with a prominent name would want to coach in that hell hole?
I got an ideal. Let’s let the media find us a coach since they are the catalyst behind destroying everything that starts to pick up momentum. Tampa is the most negative place to play. As a player you don’t even have to say anything to the press in Tampa because they’ll just make it up anyway.

  14. blackmagic00 Says:

TIME FOR REBUILD 3.0 YAY! SMFH.

  15. zam Says:

There’s only one thing to save this season, and the initials are T as in Tim and T as in Tebow. Just kidding, but not really.

  16. NJBucsFan Says:

I can see Raphael answered my question…he’s simply an idiotic troll with a limited vocabulary and an on-line GED.

  17. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Chucky would be good….I think we just got finished paying him.

  18. ElioT Says:

I’m sure Jackson, Nicks, Joseph, Revis, Goldson, etc… are thrilled right now. Our Bucs could f**k up a wet dream.

Time to clean house at the end of the season.

Find a GM/Coach combo that can win NOW!

  19. BamBamBuc Says:

Some names to consider for 2014. Lovie Smith, Rod Marinelli, Jim Caldwell.

  20. ElioT Says:

    Go Bucs!

  21. Hutch Says:

Locker just went down with a hip injury… Maybe we can unload Freeman to them! Only problem is Ryan Fitzpatrick is the backup in Tennessee and he might be better than Freeman.

  22. NJBucsFan Says:

BamBam….please tell me that is not your real list of candidates? I would only consider Lovie and that’s a stretch.

  23. Raphael Says:

Njbucfan …when I get old like you I will move up north and drive slow …dumbarse

  24. BamBamBuc Says:

The way this staff is going right now, we’ll be lucky to retain the players we have, much less sign any new free agents to come here. Bennett was happy to walk away to Seattle, didn’t even seem to want to consider an offer even if the Bucs offered one. Players would rather move on that stay here, no player will want to be here if we don’t change things soon. We’re reverting to the Old Bucs that had Bo Jackson saying he’d rather play baseball than play for the Yuccaneers, which he did until he was re-drafted by the Raiders and was successful. This is the path we’re now heading down… better put a stop to it now…

  25. Goodolebucfan Says:

    Lovie Smith!!!

  26. Patrick Says:

Fire Schiano now……..bring in Marty in as the HC and hire an experienced GM.

  27. Mr. Patrick Says:

The last time the Bucs had an offensive minded head coach they won a Superbowl.

  28. Eric Says:

This was their best shot for a win. Arizona stinks and was heavily depleted. 0-16 is a real possibility.

What were doing is playing Wannstedt ball. Scrappy but crappy.

Thanks coach nut case. Could you call a worse offensive game?

  29. Mr. Patrick Says:

Oh, and the Dolphins with their new offensive minded head coach are 3-0

  30. Jason77 Says:

Delta Delta, it doesn’t look like we’re flying down the field!!
Maybe we should check the black box to see what the problem is!!

  31. BamBamBuc Says:

NJ – those are simply former NFL head coaches that should be available for next year as a head coach. There are others, but I’m not exactly thrilled about most of them. It would be nice to have a REAL NFL head coach though.

  32. NJBucsFan Says:

    @ Raphael

Wow…couldn’t realize you could tell me age by my posts. You have my ability to form complex thoughts and sentences confused with the time I’ve spent on Earth. I guarantee you that if I am older than you, it’s only by 3-5 yrs, but I have a feeling that I am younger than you. I am a born and raised Floridian who moved to the north to make much more money than you could even dream about. Please keep the assumptions that you know anything about me to yourself and keep the conversations about the Bucs. Not that you add any value to those conversations, but I would like to respect Joe’s website.

    Thank you

  33. Goodolebucfan Says:

I take Marty as head coach anybodys better then Mickey Mouse Schiano

  34. NJBucsFan Says:

BamBam – I would love a real NFL coach as well. I would like to see Jay Gruden get a shot with our O. I think it’s his time. I would bring back Lovie or Rod as a D coordinator.

  35. BustaCherry Says:

    WoW,

Is that the Grim Reaper in the picture. Man, this is getting scary!

  36. Raphael Says:

Bambambuc …exactly …Schiano has gotten rid of a lot of talent because they did not bow to him being the “great leader “

  37. richardtyson Says:

Panthers, Bills, and Rams are the only other teams we have a shot at beating. Hopefully we lose them to them too. No faith in our draft personnel to do anything good other then within the top 5 pics. BTW, Freeman is another draft bust to add to our over-flowing collection of waste. Maybe we can depend more on other teams to draft good players like VJack and Revis. Too bad we didnt get Palmer.

  38. JK Says:

    Go Rockstar!!!

  39. Raphael Says:

Nebucfan …lol. Not even close …..I travel all over the world. You travel to armpit of America …NJ

  40. NJBucsFan Says:

Raphael…the Army (but judging by your inability to type, probably the Navy) accepts GEDs now…good for you.

  41. Burg Says:

Glennon looked bad as I expected, would love to see Blake Bortles under center if he comes out

  42. Raphael Says:

Njbucfan…have you ever heard of auto spell? Probably not , And I could care less what you say ….and no it’s not the army ….I was in Laos last year, Maui in march and just got back from Vancouver, going to key west in Nov, ….NYC in Dec, Enjoy that Trailer that you live in….

  43. buc4lyfe Says:

Schiano is a cocky power hungry fool. We’ll need a high draft pick because what free agent would want to play for him next year now? This organization is so idiotic, Freeman trade value was already low and what do they do, they make it worse by leaking garbage to the media knowing they want to move him. Plus they also made it very clear it’s not hard to adjust your offense to fit the qb….I’m embarrassed and glazers should be to

  44. Raphael Says:

Wonder why the Freeman haters are so quiet now ???. Hmmm

  45. RBellBuc Says:

Yeah where’s the self appointed KING??????

  46. Mr. Patrick Says:

Mike Tomlin could be available and he could hire his good buddy Raheem as D-Cord. I’d shoot myself

  47. buc4lyfe Says:

Did anyone notice the Gerald McCoy Freeman Mohawk? I can’t see him wanting to resign a long-term deal with schiano either and if he doesn’t resign before his contract year oh boy…he walks the plank or our talent will abandon ship first chance they get

  48. BustaCherry Says:

I thought we might beat the Bills and the Eagles. After watching the Bills beat the Ravens today. The Eagles are our only chance to win a game this year. I hope I’m wrong.

  49. Bucnjim Says:

Waiting six months just to have it end in three or four weeks is the worst feeling you can possibly have. In the 80’s and early 90’s every year was like this. Problem is we never had this much talent on ANY of those teams. This year is really starting to SUCK!

  50. NJBucsFan Says:

    Raphael

I’m going to leave you alone now. I could just tell by your responses you are on a much lower level of mental capacity. I truly appreciate your service. As I figured it was the Navy. I served as well but in the army.

I will definetley enjoy my life. The trailer days are long behind me. I’ll think about you when I jump in the car that’s worth 3 yrs of your salary.

Have a great night and be safe in your service.

Njbucfan……I am way out of your league I promise you …lol. Loser

  53. Houstonbucsfan Says:

So Gholston is likely suspended right?

  54. Pete 422 Says:

I agree with Patrick. Fire the coach & bring in Marty

  55. Pete 422 Says:

At the very least, Sully has to go. NOW!

  56. Bucnjim Says:

Everyone on here must be smarter than I am! I’m one of about 100 people who actually went to that game. One of the smallest crowds I’ve seen since the Bucs/Lions games of the NFC North.

  57. Bucnjim Says:

    NFC Central that is!

  58. Mike J Says:

I sometimes think the Bucs should just practice from July until, say, Christmas, with news reports about who is developing and all, and not play any of these nasty ol’ actual games.

  59. Joe Says:

    Houston:

    That would be Joe’s guess.

  60. Fan Since '76 Says:

What we are seeing now is an organizational failure, very top to bottom, Culverhouse Era redux.

The organization is being run on the cheap, mismanaged by inept executives, and ignored by the Glazer boys, who are focused on their multi-billion dollar futbol club, Man U. The only way they turn this around is to hire someone like Bill Polian as a COO/GM, or a Rich McKay type as a President/COO who can hire the right football people.

There is no way the Glazers can successfully operate both franchises and if they are telling themselves otherwise then, well, then, they are fooling themselves. Proof is in the pudding. They either need to get on this or sell the team to Debartolo, Vinik, Sternberg, or another local group who will do what is necessary to get us back on track. Disgusting.

  61. MadMax Says:

Freeman wouldve never made those passes Glennon made in the first half….so what we learned here is maybe we start Glennon the 1st half, then Freeman the 2nd half….wth, why not? Seasons over anyway.

  62. Fritz50 Says:

    ^^^^^

Not this shit again! So, numbskull, just how
Much money do they have to spend, to put the ‘cheap Glazers’ malarkey to rest? There’s a lot wrong here, but the Glazers have spent money like drunken sailors, the last few years. You can say they didn’t spend wisely, but you CAN’t say they’ve been cheap. This is the same old anti-glazer rant, based their religion.

  63. Adam L. Says:

I honestly don’t see them winning a game.

  64. The Dom must go Says:

Clean house! GM has horrible draft record other than Martin and maybe McCoy drafts have sucked under Dom…. Gotta go

  65. Danny Says:

They’ll screw up by winning just enough to loose out on Bridgewater, Clowney, Manziel, etc.

@BamBamBuc-Jim Caldwell’s not a good idea. Manning essentially ran the Colts and when he missed the season two years ago, Caldwell looked like a deer in the headlights.

  66. King Diamond Says:

We may not win a single game this year.

  67. Meat Says:

The Bucs are trying to run a 92′ style offense- run the ball to pass the ball. All your success is predicated on your running game. Also, Schiano envisions our offense running around 58 plays per game. The eagles equaled that number at halftime of their first game in a new offensive system. I want a cutting edge team, not a poor mans 92′ Cowboys. I really think that Schiano has to consider firing Sullivan over the bye. We mirror the Giants offensively; the same archaic system. Think about Eli’s performances- he is wildly inconsistent, 400 yards one game and 5 picks the next…. because if the running game doesn’t work in this vertical, play-action pass, run-heavy offense we have nothing. The screens aren’t designed well, when our QB needs protection we go to 4 or 5 wide instead of keeping backs in to chip, we are overall VANILLA. The new NFL is going in the exact opposite direction. Run as many offensive plays as possible. Proficiency and efficiency, mastery of the clock- but that requires a well coached team.

  68. Meat Says:

Don’t quite see how Dominik makes it through this…. especially with one of his last-remaining crown jewels being banned from the sidelines. Another leading the NFL in picks for another team. But we have Gholston instead of him….. and if ownership decides to keep Schiano for another year and fire Dominik as he deserves, Schiano will be that lame-duck guy next year you know isn’t the new GM’s guy, which basically ruins your chances of success that next season as well. Wahoo 2016! I hope Revis is still good then!

  69. BirdDoggers Says:

Sad. Just sad. Talking about the draft before October. There’s enough talent on this team to win now. Schiano can’t get the job done. The
Glazers will probably keep him for the rest of the season. After the season the Glazers have decisions to make. I suspect Schiano will probably win enough games to put the top QBs in the draft just out of reach

  70. Danny Says:

Monte’s son is available. He would fix up the offense. Plus he was forced to draft JaMarcus Russell when he wanted Calvin Johnson.

  71. White Tiger Says:

So, if the coach responsible for his team playing for a draft pick – in September – yet still gets to pick that draft pick…

…it kinda takes the fun out of it.

If the coach told us Aqib Talib and LeGarrette Blount were not ready for the NFL and cut them/traded them for virtually nothing – yet they’re lighting up the NFL every week for the New England (feakin’) Patriots…and he’s begun saying the same exact thing about the starting QB…

…do we let him pick another QB in case stuff doesn’t work out with Mike Glennon?

If the trend continues, we Schiano will start picking a fight with Darrelle Revis before the end of the season…then somewhere early NEXT season he will succeed in getting the owners and then new GM that Revis is a cancer and is on drugs, or travels with two hamsters on away games…or whatever rumor he thinks will do the trick)…and we’ll trade Revis for a 3rd string running back and a 6th round pick in 2015…

Ummm…when exactly do we start winning again? I’m not sure we have enough star players for Schiano to get rid of to save his job – I KNOW we won’t have enough QB’s…

…and tell me why again the ONE QB that absolutely defies gravity in Schiano’s world – Orlovsky never seems to hit his radar? Heck, if you believe Schiano, Orlovsky has somehow outperformed Josh Freeman…

THAT…should be all you need to know about Schiano’s ability to assess a QB.

  72. White Tiger Says:

@Danny – by that logic we should rehire Gruden – he too thought Megatron was better than whoever it was we ended up taking…plus, it was Grudens playbook that was used when Freeman threw for 25 TD’s and only 6 INT’s…im thinking Chucky would love a crack at a team with Freeman AND Glennon on it.

I mean, since we’re dreaming and all…I might as well indulge my football fantasy too…

..plus – it would aggravate some of the lazy local fishwrappers who like their coaches to do their jobs for them – give us the inside scoop, we’ll write whatever you want, and we’ll keep you from getting fired…

Unfortunately – the Glazer’s would have to have mighty big…gutts to fire Schiano…as they would owe him his salary for 5 years.

Great idea – don’t overpay for a QB who has set franchise records for offensive ranking and number of yards thrown, actually has several come-back wins already to his credit – no, instead, we should overpay for the former head coach of Rutgers because….

    ….

  73. MadMax Says:

All of the next draft picks wont matter under this F ed up administration!!! Bridgewater, Clowney, Lewan, Watkins and Gurley combined still wouldnt help much….

UHHHGGGGGGGGGG it sucks being a Buc Fan right now!!!! 🙁

  74. Fan Since '76 Says:

    From Pat Yasinskas:

“That leaves the Buccaneers $19.024 million under this year’s salary cap. Only four teams have more room…The Bucs likely will try to carry over about $10 million in cap room to 2014…The rest of the NFC South teams don’t have nearly as much cap room as the Bucs.”

They signed Revis to a contract that is year by year, no long term guarantee. They dumped Talib and Blount salaries and refused to spend a few dollars for Bennett and Clark. The money they spent on FA’s is smoke and mirrors and many have fallen for it.

There is no coincidence to the team’s downfall and the Glazers’ purchase of Man U. They have stretched themselves too far financially and personally and the Bucs are not their top priority. They’re basically throwing darts now, as evidenced by their recent move to guarantee tv. If they do not refocus their attention on the Bucs then rest assured no coaching change or draft will fix this mess.
