Why Is Kevin Ogletree Employed?

September 29th, 2013

This is beginning to grate on Joe and he cannot let it eat up his insides any longer.

This week, Bucs commander Greg Schiano claimed he benched franchise quarterback Josh Freeman for poor performance. Schiano said it was performance-based. Nothing else mattered, Schiano said. No outside influences. Just performance.

Freeman wasn’t performing, in his eyes, so he benched him.

OK, fine. That’s reasonable and Joe understands it.

If one is to take Schiano’s side and understand that if you don’t perform, you are gone (like Freeman), then just how the hell is Kevin Ogletree still collecting a paycheck from Team Glazer?

This guy Ogletree is beginning to make Michael Clayton look like Fred Biletnikoff. He couldn’t catch a cold, this guy, Ogletree. He dropped two more passes today. He drops virtually everything. He has a rough time in the bathroom because he is always dropping the toilet paper. Shower? Forget about it! The soap is always on the floor.

Don’t ever get near this guy Ogletree in a buffet line! Unless you want to wear your dinner.

If Schiano truly does base players’ employment on performance, then there is no logical reason for Ogletree to still be on this roster. None!

Yes, that means you will have to find someone on the street to take his place. There has to be some history teacher or bartender out there who can catch and be taught how to run decent routes.

If Freeman is a dead man walking with the Bucs, how is Ogletree not as well?

Or is there a double standard on the team?

The keep him around for his ability to run routes 1 yard short of the first down. He’s an expert at that.

  2. JerseyBucsFan Says:

    ^what he said..smh

  3. Alex2013 Says:

Where is Underwood and Dallas Clark?

  4. Drew Says:

That’s because he’s Garrett’s guy. Honestly think Paige should take his spot.

  5. JerseyBucsFan Says:

i would even take demps in the slot.. just give me some kind of hope

  6. k_bassuka Says:

I keep saying it our “HC” needs to go…

  7. Raphael Says:

Please Glazer family ……..FIRE Schiano !

  8. Tampabaybucfan Says:

I actually like Page & Demps….Demps decision making was questionable…but coach may have told him to make something happen.
Dallas Clark is with the Ravens…Underwood isn’t playing anywhere…so I think he is available
We have to shake something up…other teams are going to play us the same way. Glennon spread it around today & that was good….only 6 of his passes went to VJ & MW19….
Demps in the slot…we also could use Shepard…he can run pass & catch…

  9. blackmagic00 Says:

Schiano needs to walk the plank along with some others. This D will be great under pretty much anyone.

  10. RBellBuc Says:

Yeah Joe you are exactly right. He pretty much single handedly got Freeman benched. Now he seems to have it in for Big Bird too. This guy is a modern day Jonah and an albatross to all QBs.

  11. BucFanForever Says:

Same with Lindell. Bring back Dimke

  12. Bricker Says:

My favortite Ogletree quality – he has mastered running the 2-yard drag route on 3rd and 3.

  13. Goodolebucfan Says:

    ^ all of the above

  14. Cmurda Says:

I keep refreshing to see if Schiano gets fired.

  15. RBellBuc Says:

    ^^^lol

  16. Raphael Says:

    Soon I hope ^^^^

  17. Jbyrd Says:

    LOL Cmurda…me too

  18. BirdDoggers Says:

Underwood would’ve been more reliable than Ogletree. Another great job of player evaluation.

  19. Tom in St Augustine Says:

So if Jags go 0-16 and if we (Bucs) go 0-16 and everyone else has a better record who gets the #1 pick?

  20. bucfanjeff Says:

We made no adjustments and kept running left despite constant negative yardage.

Never ever did I think we would be in this position this quickly.

    Sigh.

  21. Tony Says:

Is Ogletree skiing like Freeman? The elephant in the room.

  22. Mr. Patrick Says:

I am not a Freeman fan and always thought that he was highly overrated. However, you could bring in Brady, Manning, Schaab, Ryan, Bridgewater or Manziel, and none of them would look good in this horrible offensive play system

  23. Chris Says:

Freeman had no fight on him and was terrible. The play calling is terrible. The talent evalaution by the gm is terrible. We are a poorly run organization.

  24. Mr. Patrick Says:

I have never been a Freeman fan and always thought he was very overrated. However, you could bring in Brady, Manning, Schaab, Ryan, Rivers, Bridgewater or Manziel and none of them would look good in this poorly constructed offensive play system

  25. NY Buc Says:

Unless the team pulls an epic quit like it did on Morris in 2011, Schiano has done a good enough job with the defense and getting production out of the last two drafts to justify getting the rest of this year. It’s frustrating to watch the Bucs loose, but for all the “college coach” criticism Schiano gets there are teams with seasoned “NFL coaches” that are in the same boat (Tom Coughlin, Mike Tomlin) and coaches who aren’t in much better shape (Jeff Fischer, Mike Shanahan).

  26. Chris Says:

Schiano could always sell to ownership he doesnt have a qb.

  27. Jacko101 Says:

No he can’t he drafted Glennon point voided. Can that jerk

  28. dmatt Says:

Ogletree is a fluke. Now we know the reason the Cowboys let him go. Twice today he had an opportunity to leap forward for a first down that was inches away… only to fall short and lost. How many balls will he have to drop before he’s benched. Our achilles heel is the coach. Do they not know how to best use Demps or Russell Sheppard? The word around the league is our QB will lock on to VJ whose proven that he’s not ur elite WR i.e. Roddy White, Julio Jones, Dez Bryant, Wes Walker,Calvin the real deal Johnson. Why aren’t we running more screens? Why didn’t we continue running the no huddle… it worked earlier in the game. We need an offensive coordinator who knows how to best use our talent. And maybe a new head coach. The defense can hold a team to 13 points but the offense can only score 10

  29. Jacko101 Says:

Dmatt he’s the real deal relax bud

  30. Chris Says:

Lol a 3rd round qb who he never annointed as his franchise guy? Come on dude

  31. jb Says:

I know exactly what Joe’s saying about Ogletree! There’s a reason Dallas didn’t want him. But what about Tim Wright? From what I’ve seen, the ONLY reason he’s wearing Red & Pewter is because he played for Schiano at Rutgers! I understand we’re depleted @ TE, but the best we can put on the field is some guy that Schiano once coached in college and has far more drops than catches?

    SCHIANO HAS TO GO…………A.S.A.P.!!!!!

  32. SamIam Says:

This was the only thought going through my head while watching the game. Other than the kickoff return Demps looked dangerous. Anyone know how good his hands are?

  33. Nate Says:

Ogletree is awful! Is Owusu still hurt? I was scratching my head when they released Underwood and now I’m really confused. Dom and Schiano have done a pretty bad job evaluating our offensive talent… The issues with our 3rd WR and our love affair with TE “projects” is unexcusable.

  34. 1976Buc Says:

There has been a double standard, double talk since Schiano arrived. Praise a guy one day cut him the next. Don’t put too much confidence in what you hear from him.

  35. passthebuc Says:

Listen Buc’s fans. With Lane Kiffin on the open market, we could replace Schino and then we would have a defense comprable to the offense. Terrible.

Call Dungy and see if he would be willing to help out in the interim.

Mr. Patrick was dead on in his evaluation of the situation.

  36. Michael Clayton Says:

The check is in the bank.

  37. passthebuc Says:

    @Demat:

please quit sugar coating your evaluation and tell it like it is.

  38. Danny Says:

    @Tom in St Augustine
It depends on the strength of schedule but the Bucs will find a way to screw that up by winning a game we’ll least expect.

  39. Max Says:

FIRE OGLETREE AND THE REDHEAD REJECT WR COACH

  40. Harry Says:

Totally agree Joe. Ogletree may be fast, but what good is that if he can’t hang on to the ball? And like you said, its time others are held accountable for their poor play, not just Freeman.

  41. holymoly Says:

That was the same exact BS I saw the first 3 games with a different QB. Weak ass offense, same friggin’ running plays over and over again. Try something new . Send schiano back to Rutgers cause he sucks. Try a screen for a change . That sucked !

  42. luivill Says:

I’d be amazed if Schiano is gone before the end of the season. Mark Dominik needs to go as well.

  43. john Says:

see the gm who cant draft and axe him why they over paid for him. i might have to change my 5-11 prediction but, i think i will ride it out.

  44. Tom in St Augustine Says:

@danny ~ lol, I know right. thanks for the answer.

  45. Otto Says:

Ogletree is not reliable. Bench him! I think the Sullivan offensive scheme and lack of offensive adjustment/creativity is our main problem. All teams know how to defend it now. Secondary is the fact that we don’t have anybody to work the middle of the field, although Glennon seemed to find the 3rd WR and TE more than Freeman could.

  46. Capt. Tim Says:

    What’s the big deal?
” every QB has a few drops. Good QBs overcome that”

He was fine for Freeman- but not for Glennon? Why, did he get worse????

    No didn’t think so.

  47. Joke Says:

Ogletree is terrible, no doubt. But Joe, you promised us earlier this week that you were absolutely convinced by your sources that Freeman’s benching was purely about his pay on the field. So WTF are you trying to imply here?

  48. White Tiger Says:

He fits right in with Vincent “cut-em-off-short-so-they-don’t-hit-me-hard” Jackson, and the always dangerous (for his ow QB) Mike “round-em-if-ya-got-em” Williams.

Seems to becoming a pattern that Jackson likes to be hit in the open field, where no one can take a shot at him, and Williams is learning the same stuff.

Why’s Joe singling out the guy with the small paycheck? Why not ask the same question of the “DollaDollaBill-boyz”?

This is what happens when you lose control – the low information fan assumes it’s ALWAYS the QB – except two different QB’s were vicitimized by the same issue.

These guys are bringing new definition to the term another Buc coined a while ago…”QBKILLA”.

    …except, they’re doing it wrong.
