“They’re Reaching”

October 11th, 2012

It’s no surprise that former Bucs guard Ian Beckles (1990-1996) is shaking his head at the thought of 6-8, disappointing tackle Jeremy Trueblood getting low and snarly and being a successful right guard for the Buccaneers against the Chiefs on Sunday.

“It means the guy in there right now can’t play and they’re reaching,” Beckles said of the potential Trueblood move on WDAE-AM 620 today.

Beckles had a lot of other commentary, but the gist of it is he has no faith in Trueblood, if Trueblood indeed grabs the right-guard reigns Sunday.

While talk of Trueblood’s move could be an elaborate Byron Leftwich–style smokescreen, it’s highly unlikely since it wouldn’t change the Chiefs’ approach to the game in the slightest.

Joe wishes Trueblood the best. Prove a lot of people wrong, big fella.

The Bucs are not winning for lots of reasons. Winning takes time and this team was so systematically messed up by the end of last season that no one could turn the team around overnight. Give Coach Schiano time to get “his guys” in here folks. Look how much more competetive the Bucs are now after only four games. I would rather have more wins but I will be patient as I do see progress, especially in effort given by the current squad. I think the biggest problem may be at quarterback. Just because you want someone to be a “franchise” qb, doesn’t mean they have the special intangibles to do so and be consistent. Anyone can be good half the time, winning qb’s are good most of the time, and complete most of their passes, and hit receivers in stride, and run when they must, and take the team on their shoulders when they have to. Is Freeman the man? I give him this year to prove he is and then if not, we either trade him for draft picks or draft the best qb available. Try for a free agent who is serviceable and will not lose games for us (like Brad Johnson years ago). Don’t gamble the next five years on Freeman if he does not get himself straightened out. Go Bucs!

really ? you think Ian ? Ian = rocket scientist

    way to go Mr. obvious

  3. Chris@Apple Roof Cleaning Says:

Trueblood is one nasty run blocker, who struggles in pass protection, at Tackle.
The KC Game will be a smash mouth beck alley brawl, and who better then the known to be nasty Trueblood to be starting somewhere for us ?
    I applaud the move!

  4. Macabee Says:

Anything that gives the Bucs their best chance to win, I’m all for. But I would be less than forthright if I didn’t admit that this looks like a last minute desperate move. If I understood correctly, because Trueblood was ill monday, he missed his only opportunity to engage in a padded practice. Larsen has been an open book since he assumed the position. Why wasn’t this option explored during the week before when Trueblood was inactive? We need this win, so I’ll be pulling for you True if you’re the guy, but I dunno!!

  5. bucfanjeff Says:

IF Trueblood plays well, he just made himself a valuable OL in the NFL that can play both G and T. Being a swingman is the exact reason Zuttah was kept around.

Trueblood, whom is thought to be in his last year as a Buccaneer, could very well play himself into a 2-3 year contract at backup pay, if he wants it.

A GOOD coach maximizes the talent he already has. There is talent on this team NOW. I refuse to excuse Schiano’s piss-poor game adjustments, kindergarten NFL strategy, narrow minded vision, and misuse of personnel. Give him time for what??? For 22 pro-bowlers to be accumulated? THAT’S EVERY COACHES DREAM but FAR FROM REALITY…

Schiano has every one fooled because he LOOKS and TALKS like your classic coach, but fails miserably with the X’s & O’s.

You have a good coaching staff when 95% of your attention is on PLAYER PERFORMANCE. You have a good coaching staff when you don’t have to question the scheme, strategy, or game management CONSTANTLY.

Personally, I think his mesmerizing influential power to make Buc fans NOT see his obvious flaws must lie in his haircut. I could use some of that mojo, does anyone know who his barber is???

    @PewterC

Perhaps you would like Raheem Morris to return so wr can be down 42-0 at halftime? If you were a Bucs fan in 1996 you were probably saying “Oh this Dungy guy is terrible, we can’t win consistantly.” Get a life.

At Rutgers the Little General won twice the first year and then lost all but one the 2nd year. It took 5 years before he broke .500 and again, he never won the Big East. His lifetime conference record was abysmal at 28-48 because he played them once every year. Playing NFC South teams twice a year will be disastrous because Schiano has never been able to adapt, adjust or change his behavior.

He feels that if he is a bigger asshole than any other coach, he will be able to coerce and blackmail players into playing better. How butch is that?

  9. Buc Fan #237 Says:

All Schiano needs is time. Give him at least 3 years, the same Raheem got before complaining. Then give him 3 more years to move forward with his agenda just in case Mark D’s players do not pan out.

He’s a good coach that everybody BUT the Raheem apologists love.

    @Pewter_Power

Exactly! That’s what I was telling Rob. IT’S ABOUT WHO WE HAVE NOW. Not when Schiano manages to gather 53 Hall-of-Famers.

So since Schiano gets the glory of bringing the “new attitude”, he also gets “the fire” of being 1-3 with +55 million dollar toys.

Don’t get me wrong, Raheem failed too. But we were 4-2 with far less around this time last year. Schiano built the Bucs attitude back up and then tied their hands behind their backs with poor strategy.

Schiano has the breadth of vision much like a cyclops with horse blinders on…

  12. PewterC Says:

    @ Buc Fan #237

Schiano is a stick in the mud and is as flexible as a boulder from the Grand Canyon. His strategy with X’s & O’s strikes about as much fear in the hearts of other NFL coaches as a child wanting to play them in Tic Tac Toe.

This team has to play TWICE as hard to overcome the coaches’ inadequacies. By the end of the season, the depth chart will have shrank to 3 quarters of its size if this mismanagement keeps up.

Schiano is a poor strategist, but you’d rather believe his haircut instead of his performance.

  13. Buc Fan #237 Says:

Schiano is a great coach that only a Raheem apologist would hate.

Bucs beat the Chiefs this week. Mark them down with another in the W column.

  14. PewterC Says:

The Chiefs are playing a QB that hasn’t started in what, two years? The Chiefs are in disarray, and have virtually one weapon. The Bucs have the ability to go deep and often.

For the sake of Schiano and your sanity, the Bucs BETTER beat the Chiefs! Otherwise you will have to come out of lala land and see Schiano for the coach he actually is…

  15. Rob Says:

    Hey Miguel el Nimcumpoopico,
Make fun of our coach all you want. The team he left in Rutgers is 5-0 with “his guys”. Schiano simply wants players to do their job and if unable to do so, he will find someone else. I don’t need the Buc’s coach to go out drinking or whatever with his players. I want him to teach them how to play and win. Once again, it will not happen overnight. We are much more competitive with Schiano. I don’t care if the Buc’s started well last year. The end was completely disasterous and change was neccessary. You probably loved Winslow the soldier too. I like what Schiano is doing and yes, his conservative game plan has cost us in the short term maybe one or two wins but……Freeman is erratic, lacks confidence and accuracy, and has not proven he is a franchise qb. Schiano won’t waste another season if Freeman doesn’t start to imrove immediately. Don’t blame the coach when Freeman can’t hit the broadside of a barn on half his passess bro. Go Bucs!

Exactly my point, the Little General leaves Rutgers and the team is off to the best season in 2 decades. I wonder how Greg fined his players at Rutgers if they had no money. He probably sent them to bed with out supper.

Schiano has gutted a lot of the equity of this team by running off Brian Price, Preston Parker, Kellen Winslow, Okoye and others.

” Schiano won’t waste another season if Freeman doesn’t start to improve immediately.”

If the Little General runs Freeman off and cuts Bowers in the middle of the gauntlets next summer and loses another 6 players to the dreaded and unnecessary 110X16 torture tests will the Bucs be stronger or weaker?

    How butch is that?

“I want him to teach them how to play and win.”

Where has he ever won? Besides at Penn State under Sandusky.

  17. raphael Says:

@miquel I am on alot of boards and you are one of the Dumbest posters I have seen….

  18. Rob Says:

    El Nimcompoop,
Price will never reach his potential, Parker fumbled away his chance, Winslow is on his last leg and us a distraction, Okoye could have provided some experience and depth. Schiano recruited well at a no name school and totally built up a Rutgers program from scratch. Why don’t you just move to Washington and follow Raheem.
