10-6 Is Significant For Schiano’s Bucs

August 9th, 2012

Just in case you forgot, Joe falls into the camp of Bucs fans that believes the Bucs had significant talent last season but collapsed under a head coach that let things get out of control and coordinators that didn’t do much right during a 10-game losing streak.

There’s a reason the Bucs were 4-2 off a 10-win season. And that 10-win season, one many fans dismiss as supreme luck from the football gods, still looms as significant, so says Bucs icon Derrick Brooks. Ol’ Double Nickel explains in a video interview on Buccaneers.com.

“These [2012 Bucs] are better. These guys are better than we were in 1996,” Brooks said.  “Because they’ve been together and had that success of a 10-6, where in ’96, we hadn’t. You know, we were just a bunch of young guys that really don’t have but one proven winner, Hardy Nickerson, on our football team. But this year you’ve got a bunch of guys that have won some games. …

“We  had a little extra that I want these guys to get. We were hungry. We were thirsty. And we did whatever it took to win. You know, we said little. We listened a lot. It didn’t come together for us at first. Can this team be mentally tough to deal with bumps and bruises? That’s what we gotta wait for the season to find out.”

Brooks went on to give Greg Schiano a supreme compliment. (Click above to grab the whole video.)

Well, the ’96 Bucs went 6-10 under Father Dungy. If Brooks says these Bucs are better, then Schiano surely should be feeling a lot of pressure to win. He has the horses on offense to get it done, but the quality of the coaching staff and the defense remains a mystery.

That would be awesome..but NO way…decent starting team but not much depth…JMO

  2. Canadabuc Says:

It would be great to get back to a 10 win season. Maybe the scab refs this year won’t botch a call costing us the playoffs.

  3. Bulldog Says:

Funny thing is jfgobucs , they were saying the same thing in 2010. Not to mention spewing the same rot for the other last to first teams in the NFC South. Which I recall us being in that situation once or twice as well. just sayin !!
Depth IS an issue but only IF the injury bug bites. We have had that bug way more than most the last several yrs. Time for that critter to move the f$$k on for a change.

I agree! Especially, after the SB year!

Speaking of the scab refs, I think the women refs might pay more attention to details and catch more violations, but will they know the entire set rules or what to look for? I guess that can be said for the male scab refs as well?

  6. robert Says:

    female refs?????? O hell no!

I hear ya…and I’m also going to play the 200 million dollar lottery…

Provided we remain healthy, we have the talent for a successful season – especially on offense. Our start is crucial vs the Panties, Little Giants and Cowgirls. We need to come out of that 2-1 somehow.

I have a feeling there will be alot less holding and pass interference penalties called this year. The New Orleans game was pretty clean the other night. However there was a TD missed. It will be interesting to say the least. Who knows…..maybe less corruption with the Scab refs. A gambling man myself I’ve seen some pretty bad calls that can change the outcome of a game.

I’m sure the ’12 bucs are better than the ’96 bucs, but I think that’s true for nearly every team as there’s some general skill inflation over the years. So I would caution comparing teams more than a decade back to predict records. The only relevant question is are the ’12 bucs better than the ’12 saints or the ’12 panthers?

    Link is to wrong video..

  12. dan Says:

yeah the refs got a lot of practice calling holding and such during the… lingerie football league.

Nope anything less then an 8-8 record to me is a failure for schiano. He has much better coordinators and assistant coaches then rageem ever did. The team also spent alot of money then raheem was ever able to spend on fa this year. This team started out 4-2 last year and schiano is taking over that team, with better talent. If raheem can take a team that was 4-12 in 2009 turn them to 10-6 the following year. Then schiano can take a 4-12 team in 2011 and turn them to at least a .500 team (with way more talent). You guys are being way to easy on Schiano saying a sub .500 record is acceptable.

Female refs will nag you till death. That is your penalty.

Unfortunately? It is true and happening!

    I agree!

I think 8-8 is possible and would be a step in the right direction. Heck, if/when the Bucs win that first game it will be a step in the right direction.

For me, any win after number 8 this season is a sweet bonus, but if the team isn’t bit badly by the injury bug, I think they can be at least .500.

I wonder if a female referee has a disagreement with Talib, would she call him “male genatalia.”

  20. RustyRhino Says:

Females refs in the NFL is not a good idea IMHO. Most NFL players are 200 + pounds, and I have seen male refs get injured. I am not saying females can’t do the job. Just that they are not physical built. To withstand getting ran over by 240 lbs and get up and referee. Who would walk away from getting blindsided by a te or lb over the middle. A female or a male. Either would and could get seriously injured. I am not looking forward to seeing who would or would not.

  21. Bobby Says:

The problem will be when the female ref goes to throw the flag and it puts somebody’s eye out….

    Chris FWC, lol–literally!!

holy back to the 50’s batman.

look at all the misogynists. i so hope that here are no significant others that are of the female persuasion in yall’s lives.
