Bucs Want Ronde Barber To Return

March 9th, 2012

One concern Joe had led him to beg, plead with Bucs rock star general manager Mark Dominik to draft cornerback Morris Claiborne with the No. 5 pick,  because Bucs legend Ronde Barber very well may retire.

That situation appears to be coming to a head in the next few days.

Per Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times, Barber has been invited back to play for the Bucs this season.

@NFLSTROUD: Bucs GM Mark Dominik says he and coach Greg Schiano have met today with Ronde Barber and welcomed him back for a 16th season… However, Dominik said the Bucs respect Barber’s wish to take some time before making a decision.

Now it’s not a done deal Barber will be back. The ball is now in his proverbial court. What the Bucs offered him as far as a contract is unknown and that may be a factor.

I hope he is asked to play Free Safety. While Barber misses as many tackles as Tanard, he at least puts in effort to tackle. I am sure if he is less concerned about running toe to toe with receivers and more concerned with just following the ball, he would do much better at his age.

Of course he wants him back.

He also aint waiving Winslow, Faine, Talib, Black or Jackson as suggested by others.

At lease not till after training camp and pre-season to see if anybody beats em out on the field and guage how they perform under his staff.

Well, no one exemplifies the ‘Buccaneer Way’ we keep hearing about like Ronde- aside from the tackling issues of late. The move to safety is the right one. The less room available for Lewis and Biggers on the roster the better.

    Still hope we draft claiborne

  5. Tristan Berry Says:

I want Ronde back, I want Talib to get his head straight, AND I want Claiborne.

yo joe, what about the possibility of the bucs cutting talib if they sign a FA CB , draft claiborne and ronde comes back?? Sounds like a lot but that is a real possibility. why not just cut talib and free up even more money? to either use or roll over for future contracts?

makes sense to me! rid ourselves from this cancer

  9. gotbbucs Says:

Ronde’s going to sit back and wait to see how serious Schiano and Dominik are about winning right now or if they still want to sit in rebuild mode. If they sign some major FA’s then he’ll come back. If they stay the current course then he’ll ride off into the sunset.

  10. BigMacAttack Says:

Possible, but Ronde may just ride off into DC to play with his buddy. I wouldn’t totally rule out the option yet.
