More Cheap Seats Released, Going Fast

September 5th, 2011

Team Glazer took to the WDAE-AM 620 airwaves Friday for an exclusive sit down with host Steve Duemig and part of that chat was about ticket sales.

Bryan Glazer told fans to keep an eye on TicketMaster.com because the Bucs and Ticketmaster would be working to release a new round of $35 tickets for opening day. Well, Joe has been monitoring TicketMaster to see what would happen.

It seems that about 250 $35 tickets (including service charge) were released Sunday morning, and as of 10:30 a.m. Monday, about 40 remain in section 339. Unfortunately, there are still 2,000 or so end zone tickets available in the $105 class, per Tickemaster, and many in other price ranges.

Joe will continue monitoring the $35 ticket availability. And there’s always The Blackout Tour with free beer and wings if you can’t afford or physically handle attending opening day.

Lowering ticket prices for the upper corner is not an act of good will to the fans when the rest of the stadium is filled with (empty) over priced tickets.

When we got season tickets for section 118 in 1998, they were $48 each (3 tickets). By the time we gave them up 10 years later, the Bucs priced us out of the market at $99 each (a 33% increase from 07).

If the Bucs want to sell tickets, they need to reevaluate ALL the tickets, not just the upper corner seats.

  2. Apple Roof Cleaning Says:

I agree Alex! My Son and I paid 2200.00 for our seasons seats last year. We are going on the Blackout tour to watch Tampa play Detroit on opening day.

  3. Dew Says:

Off subject but has anyone seen a list of the Bucs practice squad?

  4. RastaMon Says:

I don’t NOT want to read anymore crybaby crap from locals that come up with every reason in the book…NOT to go see the game live !

  5. Pete I Says:

    @ Alex

AMEN! The suntan specials are not all that special even at $35 a pop

The 30% increase in 07 now seems a bit of a poor decision and ill – timed. Decrease all tickets, upper deck, lower deck, east side, west side, endzones (and add youth tickets at all levels) back to 07 prices at least then if the stadium doesn’t fill up then you know its more than meets the eyes.

My tickets went down 33% this year ( $75 – $50 ) per seat. I have yet to notice anything else that has dropped a penny in price, except real estate. You are all just making excuses, man up & just admit you don’t want to go, cause you don’t like the heat, the crowding, the bare chested drunk rednecks…whatever. Just don’t try to convince yourself it’s suddenly the cost. I’m betting that’s pretty much gone down across the board. They could make the whole Stadium free, and most of you wouldn’t be willing to go. Your choice, I want’a be there.

  7. Fear The Glo Says:

I wonder if the stadium would have so much trouble selling out if it was a dome. Probably.

  8. Fritz50 Says:

PS…I’, in the ‘Suntan Seats’ in the Southwest corner & couldn’t be happier with the view. Took my new Nikon a few years ago & got great Pic of Spurlock’s 1st touchdown return. If you’re such a snob that only lower bowl 50 yard line will do, then you should stay home.

Ever hear of the Fruitdome in St. Petersburg? 🙁

    until they are good again….
thing is they are knocking on the door with an ever increasing collection of talent…

Well said Fritz, The tickets are not that expensive compared to the rest of the NFL. The Glazers arent gonna lower them a whole lot more. Its gonna be put up or shut time for the fans pretty soon. The Glazers threatened to move the team before, don’t think they won’t do it again once the LA stadium gets built. Just like if you don’t vote, don’t complain about the Government; if you don’t buy at least one ticket this year, don’ t complain that you can’t watch them on TV.

  12. Patrick Says:

    @RastaMon

Yeah I agree. And the economy excuse is getting old. The economy is BAD all over the country and there’s many stadiums that still sell out

Hey Joe I was thinking about getting season tickets for the remainder of the season.. Where would you think i could get the most bang for my buck? I was thinking about upper bowl? what do you think.I was thinking about section 332 row e any1 know how that is?

  14. RastaMon Says:

    Nate….south EZ

No idea what your budget is so I really can’t say. Joe used to have upper deck season tickets and the corners are significantly cheaper than the sidelines. However, you are very far from the field from the upper deck corners. In Joe’s opinion, they are not good seats.

If money is not an issue, Joe would suggest the 200 level in the corners. Joe always sits there for the Outback Bowl. Not too high, not too low and really good views of the field. Next would be end zone seats.

  16. Mark Says:

section 339 has sold out. I bought 2 tickets just in time!!

Sat in section 315 row N for 5 years. Experienced some of the best games from up there. Mon. night shootout with the Rams, Playoff wins vs Washington and the 49ers. Great view. Could really see plays develop. Ironically, we were asked if we wanted to move and we took it. Lower bowl. Sure you’re closer. But the fans and view were much better where we were before

  19. Pete I Says:

Actually I have season tickets and they did go down from $3000 for section 312 to $1800 for section 311. The adult tickets went down $15 each and the youth tickets went down $45 each! (4 tickets) Same row just 10 yards over. So I am not complaining about my seats but the lower bowl is still overpriced and I will never sit on the east side again unless its at night or free club seats.

My same seats on the east side are $8 less per seat?

  20. Nate Says:

hmm Can we take a poll lol?

Fritz are you really that dense? I’ll give you a list of things that have decreased in price:

Computers, cell phones, calling plans, car rentals, cruising, fast food (certain items)

I JUST booked a 5-night cruise on Celebrity for $249 plus port charges on Oct 31! So I’m paying $50/night/pp for food (unlimited), entertainment, lodging for about the same cost as a day traveling to watch the Bucs. yeah that’s a 3.5 hour drive (each way), gas, food, lower bowl tickets, parking vs. a 5 DAY vacation!

Yeah those Bucs tickets sure are a bargin! You keep paying the NFL’s outrageous demands so that they can continue their MONOPOLY and rake in the dough. Meanwhile I’ll sit in front of my brand new 50″ HD tv that I bought this weekend at Hhgregg for $499, enjoying my $7.99 Blue moon and eating the burgers that my wife cooked outside on the grill – all for a lot less hassle and expense then had I travelled up to Tampa.

Oh and this way I can watch some of the other NFL games, check on my 7 fantasy football teams and stay on top of the league’s leading players.

  22. Alex Says:

BTW- I wasn’t ranting that the Upper Deck is a terrible place to sit. I’ve sat up there in the past and it gives a good perspective. My comment goes to mission of the Buccaneers Marketing/Ticketing Departments.

My complaint is that it is disingenuous for the Bucs brass to brag about their “Watch out for Falling prices!” gimmick, when they aren’t correcting their pricing errors from the past.

Yes yes, the Glazers have the right to price their tickets however they want. But here’s the balance- would they rather have a sellout with cheap (say, 10th cheapest in NFL) tickets or 50-70% capacity with current prices (not sure the current avg). All things being equal, their per-game take could be the same- but there simply isn’t a high enough demand for tickets at their current prices to justify where they are at now. It won’t take much to get the demand there (limited supply of AFFORDABLE seats), and the Bucs already have their hand in secondary market sales to take advantage of re-sale value.

I just fail to understand their mission. At the end, their approach makes them look greedy, makes us look like terribly fickle fans, and hurts our reputation as a region.

  23. Morgan Says:

Well stated, Alex. Simple supply/demand/utility microeconomics – can’t understand the Glazer’s approach to ticket sales but it clearly isn’t working as evidenced by the sea of open red seats.

  24. CreamsicleBananaHammock Says:

I don’t know if it would make much of a difference…..but the Glazers really should push the NFL hard for only 4pm starts for home games through October. I really don’t know how much it would help with ticket sales, but it’s pretty unbearable in that stadium at 1 pm in Sept & Oct

It’s sad that some pathetic people on here have decided to tell people hw to spend their money. For those saying the economy is just an “excuse”, you need to remove your head from your cornhole. The TB area is one of the hardest hit in this RECESSION. It is a borderline DEPRESSION in this area. Go educate yourself before you criticize others in these crappy times.
