“I Don’t Want To Hear Him Talking”

August 20th, 2011

Former Bucs QB Shaun King clobbered Gerald McCoy on local radio yesterday in a blast for the ages.

In one of the more epic radio tirades of this century, former Buccaneers quarterback Shaun King unloaded five cans of verbal whoopass on Gerald McCoy yesterday while co-hosing The King David Show on WQYK-AM 1010.

King was set off by McCoy cracking jokes to reporters about the greatness of Tom Brady and playfully insulting Chiefs quarterback Tyler Palko, plus making excuses for his own play. The Boston Globe recorded McCoy’s entire chat, which Joe wrote about yesterday.

King made it clear that his rage was built up over time, saying McCoy consistently talks too much for a guy with “no pineapple in your diet.” King explained, for the benefit of Joe and other laymen, that “pineapple” is playerspeak for Pro Bowls.

“The league’s asking Ndamukong Suh to please stop slamming quarterbacks. McCoy’s asking Tom Brady to slow down,” King said.

“In [McCoy’s] fantasy world, he’s somebody. …I’m trying to think of what excuse is he going to come up with next. Last year he was confused. He was blaming the coach. Then he had a sore arm.

“Tom Brady doesn’t now who you are. He needs a reality check. Somebody needs to knock on his door. He’s out of line. …Until he starts producing and gets some sacks, he stinks. …I want Gerald McCoy to stand up and be accounted for. … You are the No. 3 player in last year’s draft. … Kyle Moore stunk when he got here, but at least I didn’t have to listen to him.

“Local media, don’t interview Gerald McCoy anymore. I don’t want to hear him talking. …Right now you stink Gerald McCoy. Shutup and play. Last I checked there’s no pineapple in your diet.”

McCoy missed the first preseason game nursing a minor shoulder injury. In general, the Bucs have been cautious with players’ health this preseason. Raheem Morris has been very open about that.

That doesn’t sit well with King, who thinks McCoy and the youngest team in the league needs to be on the field more.

“Coach Morris might be babying these guys too much. Too many guys with no pineapple in their diet that aren’t coming to the dinner table. … There’s a whole lot of Joey Galloways on this team,” King said, referring to Galloway’s light practice schedule under the Chucky regime.

King also blasted McCoy for taking his Twitter fans to the movies, which King says is another sign McCoy is taking on a superstar personna — minus the superstar production.

The whole concept of McCoy joking to reporters wedged under King’s skin, too, and King blasted McCoy for not realizing how expensive it is to go to a game and some people “make signifcant sacrifices” to buy tickets. “This is not a game. This is not a joke.”

Interestingly, Raheem Morris commented on McCoy’s attempt at humor with reporters to close his Friday news conference.

“That was a soft statement by Gerald last night,” Raheem said. “But, I think he was trying to, it was a bad joke, I think he was trying to give Tom Brady really a compiment.”

For Joe, there’s no question McCoy is going to be scrutinized mightily by King and fans because of McCoy’s contract — though fans will probably give McCoy more rope than King. As the No. 3 overall pick, he’s enjoying $35 million or so of guaranteed money. That’s just football and the rest of professional sports.

Ironically, Raheem praised McCoy’s disruptive play in Thursday’s game, as did former Bucs defensive end Steve White, who called in to The King David Show to discuss McCoy following King’s tirade.

“The Patriots aren’t saying today that they blocked McCoy. They couldn’t block him,” White said of McCoy’s play early in the first quarter.

White acknowledged McCoy’s missed tackle in the backfield that led to a huge Patriots gain, but in all White said McCoy is improving and should almost be lauded for not throwing his defensive line coach clearly under the bus last year. White is no fan of departed Todd Wash.

At the end of the day this will all come down to production. If McCoy has a good, healthy season, nobody will care what the hell he says or where he frolics with his Twitter pals.

If you want to send Shaun King your thoughts, he welcomes you to follow him on Twitter and have at it @realshaunking.

Shaun King went off, so I guess a total of 4 people heard it because thats how many people listen to that awful station.

  2. Tommy Boy Says:

Who is Shaun King and how did he get a radio show? Lol…
Is it like being ordained online as on official minister? If so, I want a radio show.

Anyway, King is wrong in one aspect. It is a game, and though McCoy may have appeared to have taken it too lightly, King is taking it way to serious.

  3. Tampa--->Baaaaaaayyyy Says:

    Why all the player hating?

And for King to complain about Joey Galloway!!! Lmao. Dude, Joey G was a touchdown machine. Anyone who actually watched the games would know that Joey was good for an 85 yd TD a game.

Shawan King, you ever throw a TD for 50 yds? Huh? Shawan, even Tony Dungy replaced you with Brad Johnson. The loyal Dungy sat your ass.

And guess what dummy, Warren sapp is gonna come after you hard bro. You just wait.

  4. CalicoJack Says:

King is right. IMO, McCoy is a “White Tiger Cub” until he shows/grows up.
Lots of those cubs among the ABBA star’s draft picks…

  5. Posey99 Says:

Last time I checked Shawn king has never even come close to having “pineapple” in his diet.

  6. Tampa--->Baaaaaaayyyy Says:

So, in order to judge a good draft, you have to wait 3 years. Why does everyone assume that Doms drafts are all gonna pan out with superstars?

The jury is still out, these young defensive draft picks still need to prove they can stop good teams.

Buuuuuut, I don’t blame the players, or even Dom. Because Dom has brought us talent. It is Rahs job to mold these guys into NFL football players. It is Rahs job to call the defensive plays.

If anything, this is all Rah being a terrible DC. When will people start putting the blame where it rightfully does?

    Thomas? Agree?

  7. hfxbuc Says:

If ‘Pineapples’ are a prerequisite for talking….Stan King (borrowed that trick from McCoy) needs to shut up. There are no pro bowls in his past and no broadcast awards in his future.

As far as McCoy goes he’s a good interview funny, relaxed, open…and this is what happens to him. He takes fans out to the movies…and that’s bad…maybe he (King) thinks McCoy should drink more and drive around town…you know follow King’s lead and really connect with the kids and be a role model.

Now that King scorched him for this I’m sure we will get the full meal deal of clichés from him during interviews…that’s too bad… fans actually like that kind of athlete McCoy has the personality to bring people to the games. His production will keep him on the field, his personality can make him a star and fan favourite.

    ….just sayin’

  8. Tommy Boy Says:

Oh great…now we are willingly inviting thomas to speak????

  9. Capt.Tim Says:

Shaun-I thought better of you. Guess you figured It worked for Beckles, it works for you. Beckles got more publicity for attacking Ruud than his career accomplishments warranted. Guess Shaun is trying to get somebody to notice he has a radio show , Too.

Still being in Virginia( not a bikini to be found!!), I got stuck watching the Boston feed- bleh! There comments about McCoy were “fast, Disruptive” and” hard to keep out of our backfield”. The comments I hated were when they discussed how Brady was “tricking the defense” and ” catching them shifting, when they aren’t set” – which Clayborn and McCoy both mentioned. Why aren’t we set? Because we have a new play caller on defense! That was the reason we looked inept at times.

I don’t know why it’s become acceptable for former average (at best) players to attack today’s young players. Shaun sucked his first year. But we knew it was because he was a rookie, and we gave him his chance. Obviously, he continued to suck, so we let him go. I don’t remember seeing any hula skirts on him either, and ge was given years to show his stuff. No problem, not everybody has the stuff. The city of Tampa still shows him love love as a Buc Alumni.

But to go after a first year player- who has more talent than king ever dreamed of, is ridiculous! I love McCoy’s openness and honesty. I like his work ethic, and unlike King, I watched him play Against the Patriots! He looked good. The patriots damn sure noticed him. And I personally thought that McCoy and Clayborn taking those kids to see Capt. America was a priceless bit of bonding with your new community. I thought it was class . As much as I love Qbkilla, his personality with the community was” less than desirable. Talking to McCoy would make you a Bucs fan. A chat with Sapp might make you burn your Bucs jersey. Warren seems to have gotten Happier over the years. I hope so. This town still wants to love the guy. McCoy is that guy already.

The talent is there- experience is all he needs to be a legendary DT. I love the fact that he loves talking to the fans. He’s gonna be a great pro that this area will love to have representing them.

Shaun King needs to go bury his head( and his radio show) in the sand. He had his chance. He did it his way. It didn’t work. I’m excited to see a friendly young guy become the centerpiece beast of a great young defense!

    Shut up Shaun, yer wrong!!

  10. Joe Says:

    Thomas:

Joe’s just gonna guess that more people listened to Shaun King while at work than listen to (very) minor league soccer broadcasts.

  11. Tampa--->Baaaaaaayyyy Says:

    Amen Tim

  12. Bucgirl76 Says:

I love Steve White’s insight and his blog, and most of all, his levelheadedness. So, can someone please give him a radio show?

Oh, wait, he’s too levelheaded for any afternoon radio in Tampa. You have to make up crap and be controversial for that. Never mind, Steve White; stay smart and continue to call in and call out the talking heads for their nonlevelheaded crap they spew.

  13. Vince Says:

Good–more fuel to McCoy’s fire. Perhaps this will piss him off enough to give him an edge.

  14. Vic Says:

Shaun king is on the money. McCoy’s no leader nor is he interesting. So far, he’s played 3/4 of a season on the worst D-line in team history.

  15. SteveK Says:

“The league’s asking Ndamukong Suh to please stop slamming quarterbacks. McCoy’s asking Tom Brady to slow down,” King said.

King is just pissed that his hands are too small, and he had a fumbling problem, thus putting his a$$ on the bench. You can’t score 12 points to beat the Rams, C’mon Man!!!!

Sounds like King was allergic to Pineapple. I am starting to lose respect for King. He was a medicore player, and I am tired of hearing about his Gruden hating for not better developing Shaun.

With that being said, if King were ever a great player he would’ve found a way for the Bucs to win against the Rams and Dungy would’ve never been shown the door. Even Trent Dilfer won a Super Bowl.

As for McCoy, he didn’t look too bad. It just hurts to see Suh going nucking futs on everyone and watching GMC: not playing well…. starts to play well…. tore his bicep….. strained his shoulder…

Can’t wait to see the Bucs tee off WK 1 against the Motor City Kitties. Who do you think has the better game? Bucs D-Line or Lions? GMC or House of Spears (Suh)?

  16. Capt.Tim Says:

Hmmm, we played “house of Spears” last year, didn’t we? I though Derek Hardman shut him out! Don’t recall any sacks/Tackles/ splash plays from Suh!

Guess he was basking in his laurels that day, from being so great and all. Must be . Only reason such a terror got bitch slapped by an undrafted rookie free agent!! Gooo Suh! Lol

  17. Capt.Tim Says:

Steve White is the only ExBuc who should have a radio show. When is that gonna happen?? Get those other wackers off the air, and put on a guy who knows what the heck he’s talking about!! Steve is a genius, with great insight. I’d listen to that show like a religious experience!!

  18. DougA Says:

I know Shawn King’s former center from high school in St. Pete. In high school they were close and my friend still visits King’s parents a few times a year. When Shawn played with the Buc’s my friend, who goes to all the games, tried to waive Shawn over to say high as he was running off the field after the game. Shawn blew him off. He’s a dick.

  19. BigMacAttack Says:

Steve White is the MAN and I’m glad he is back on the scene now that football is back. I missed his commentary.

  20. Macabee Says:

I can’t comment about Shaun King because I haven’t listened to his show. And I won’t put a dampener on a young player’s enthusiam. A team is made up of a lot of different personalities. Sometimes I wish Freeman would be more vocal, but that’s not his personality. I will say this about a person who talks a lot – he will get attention, and attention brings scrutiny. Ali talked a lot and whupped a$$; Sapp talked a lot and whupped a$$; Simeon Rice talked a lot and…..well I never understood a word he said. You get what I’m saying. If you talk a lot, people are going to call you out, and when they call you out, you have to back it up!

  21. Pete Dutcher Says:

    Oh, come on, people…

McCoy was honest in his statements. Things were moving so fast they barely had time to line up.

Shaun has a decent show (for now) but he’s really the wrong one to judge GMC. first, he didn’t play defense. Second, he barely played quarterback…and not well. Clearly he cannot spot defensive play…if he could he would have had a longer career.

If anything, this is all Rah being a terrible DC. When will people start putting the blame where it rightfully does?

You sound like you are upset over the showing the Bucs had this week. I can understand that in the regular season, but this is Preseason.

    (btw, love the username)

We have 2 2nd year players and 2 rookies on the defensive line. Anyone who expected them to do well right away, especially against the Patriots, was foolong himself. We also have a rookie MLB.

The defense is going to struggle this year. There is no way around it. If anything, them facing the Patriots was a good thing…because it set the bar high in their preparation for the regular season.

And Morris is not a bad Defensive Coordinator. He’s had little to work with in times past. He’s been addressing that issue through the draft and it will take time to get the defense gelling.

Look for a vast improvement around mid-season…and then next year we should see a larger leap. The following year will be when they’ll arrive at the top.

On a different but related topic…
Suh is a beast…and we face him week one. My concern is our offensive line. THEY should have done better against the Pats. They are the veteran line and our QBs had no time to make plays.

As long as the oline is playing like that, I fear for the health of Freeman come week one.

Like I said though…it is only Preseason. It’s meant to reveal weaknesses so they can be addressed before the regular season.

Also, was Bowers playing at all? I didn’t see him. If not, when he does it will add a stronger threat…the full line may have done better.

    Shotgun time
If the Bucs face blitzing teams or the Oline can’t slow these defenses down, Josh is going to have to go shotgun to have time to pass…and it will only be short passes.

Josh Johnson had more success moving the ball because he played more West coast style…quick short passes to compensate for the pass rush.

    Josh Johnson
That kid is fast as heck. They mentioned he had been practicing at WR a little. I would love to see him go long and take it to the house.

  22. Pete Dutcher Says:

And btw, Suh wasn’t playing on a young defensive line.

  23. Pete Dutcher Says:

On GMC…I haven’t seen him say anything out of line. He’s a very humble guy. All thiis “talking” he’s being accused of is a sham.

  24. Architek Says:

The sad part about this whole rant and thread is that Shaun King was never relevant. He is no different from us because he is not and was not a defensive lineman. I wonder what the overachiever King is going to do next because if he wants to rip anyone he need to rip the O-line for getting whipped by a 3-4 defense playing a 4-3 all night. Davin Joseph (inconsistent) got whooped and Penn (inconsistent) got whooped. Faine is weak and the point and never have been stout but he got paid nontheless. I mean there is plenty of blame to go around but damn King it’s only preseason. What if McCoy comes out and has 10 sacks, what will you then say because it is very possible for him to explode. I recommend you just focus on your job and shut up. Let the fans receive and critique GMC and so far we are happy with him and his personality as we needed some positive influence in Tampa. We had a string of dirt bags (Talib, Stevens, Ward, and Hayes) doing silly stuff publicly and you choose to criticize another man for being transparent? You are a loser and you must don’t have a life or you are jealous of his signing bonus.

  25. FLBoyInDallas Says:

McCoy did more in one half against the Pats than King did in an entire career. Hatred comes from jealousy in this case.

Hey King: STFU and get a life.

  26. Pete Dutcher Says:

In regard to our defense, FOSTER may get fined next week for his hit on Ocho.

Ocho offered to riemberse him and the NFL said he can’t.

Since when does the NFL get to dictate what players do with their money????

  27. Capt.Tim Says:

Hmm- again- we played “mouse with spears” last year. Put an undrafted rookie free agent against him. We shut him down. Nobody was killed, or died, or nothing. Suh came, he played, he didn’t accomplish anything. He flew home. No terror there! Gotta be careful buying into the NFL hype machine!

But I feel better about Hardman blocking him than Joseph. Davin is a terrible pass blocker. Always has been.

  28. Paul Says:

“King also blasted McCoy for taking his Twitter fans to the movies, which King says is another sign McCoy is taking on a superstar persona — minus the superstar production.”

Shaun “Midget-Hands” King is way off base here. I don’t think you have to be a superstar player to give back to the community.

  29. bucsalltheway Says:

For a guy talking about “pineapples” he has none under his belt but I know from his experience in Tampa he ate a lot of “choke sandwiches” in his diet. He was a prime candidate for a loser bowl…such a contradiction on his rebuddle to gmc…didn’t he goto to tulane where Patrick ramsey beat all his records and they both had lousy NFL tenures.

  30. TAC Says:

Burger boy is giving McCoy some good advice, as he knows all about below average, Diva attitudes. Listen to him Gerald, he does make some good points once you get past his inferiority complex.

  31. Kyle Says:

Some of you did the same thing to Jeff Carlson. You ripped him for being a low achiever in the NFL. But what does that have to do with his insight? Oh, yeah, you all know better as fans. How could Shaun King know anything after a six-year career under three head coaches.

  32. TheBull Says:

How the F can you criticize McCoy for taking fans out to the movies? That’s baffling.

  33. DSZ Says:

GMC had better develop a thicker layer of skin in a hurry. Like it or not, he was the big prize pick on the defense and, when they suck, he’s going to get a lot of blame. Last year there were zero expectations so there were no problems. This year people are going into the season thinking (probably mistakenly) that the bucs are a playoff team so when they get manhandled like they did against the pats it draws a lot of ire. If he’s having a problem with criticism from the Tampa media, God help him if he played in a market with an actual vindictive group.

  34. CalicoJack Says:

McCoy’s rookie season doesn’t stack up to Gaines Adams’ first year, lets alone King’s…

I don’t care if he talks to the media or not. It’s just sad that the one they point a mic at has such a flippant attitude to having his butt kicked… and that the Boston Globe was all too happy to post it…

  35. Max Says:

He’s right about McCoy, i’ve followed him on twitter and he’s a real big attention whore. He needs to shut up and stop tweeting and play the game. If he produces and gets to a probowl or something then he can start tweeting again.

  36. BigMacAttack Says:

King may not be relevant, as said above, but he was only one play away from the Super Bowl. Dilfer was the least relevant QB ever and has a ring on his finger. I think any player that made it to the field on the highest level has earned the right to a public opinion about the game. I agree with King in the fact that it is better to do your talking with your play on the field. He was still a little hard on the kid and could have called him on the phone instead of berating him on the airwaves. Anything to draw more listeners and the movie comment was way off base.

  37. SoonerinTampa Says:

That’s rich…Shaun King talking about “we don’t wanna hear you”…because most of us don’t want to hear him! He and Queen David have the WORST SHOW on radio in Tampa.

I am sick of the radio divas picking a player and railing on them.

“Pineapples in his diet”? WTF is that…PLEASE CANCEL THAT GARBAGE radio show…there are hundreds of people in this area that could do MUCH better.

PUT JOE in that time slot!!!!

  38. BecklesHeartsRuud Says:

Wow…. Shaun King. Really. Fat lazy slob Shaun King who was run out of the leauge for sucking AND being lazy and out of shape. HE is going to open his mouth and bash a player(who might have been one of the only Bucs to play well in that game) for what???? Being quotable? If he thought GMC was being flippant and careless that the Bucs lost big time then he isn’t any better at reading into a guy’s words than he was at reading an NFL defense. CONGRATS SHAUN!!! YOU’VE SOMEHOW MANAGED TO BECOME AN EVEN WORSE RADIO HOST THAN YOU WERE A QUARTERBACK!!!!

  39. Thomas 2.2 Says:

    Fyi- thomas is not me.

You know I believe that King is right on. McCoy needs to do something before speaking as if he has done something. That is all we are saying.

Leaders arent falsified and rah trying to cover for him is b.s. Rah needs to think before speaking to the media. To say that we didnt plan for the game as a way to explain the debacle sounds like a weak excuse and is offensive to fans who paid full price and took time out to attend.

  40. Tampa--->Baaaaaaayyyy Says:

King took Dilfer’s team through the last few games of that year… and played HORRIBLE. king Lost the NFC Championship, no if, ands or buts about it.

Dilfer would have won that game.

    King has always been terrible.

  41. BecklesHeartsRuud Says:

Seriously. I can’t wait to hear all these whining ninnies act like they supported and believed in GMC all along when he starts dominating weaker offensive lines this season. McCoy did as much or more as the vast majority of DT’s manage to do to arguably the best pass blocking line in the NFL(and going up against arguably the best guard in the NFL) Guess what haters? Detriots line isnt half of what New Englands is and come week 1 you will be eating crow. But I guess if you don’t totally dominate and get 5 sacks against Logan Mankins and the freaking Patriots line full of pro-bowlers then you are a bust. Well if thats the criteria, then I guess just about all the defensive tackles in the NFL are busts.

  42. td32 Says:

It’s amusing to see people that were cut from their junior varsity high school teams think they know more then a 6 yr NFL QB. Many on here blast King for a lack of performance(at the NFL LEVEL!)… Who are you to criticize? How far did Mark Dominik go in ball? How bout Raheem? Does that mean that cant judge talent? Most of the people on this board think the only former athletes with an ability to provide analysis is a former Pro Bowler… If that’s the case, it looks like the Bucs Dline coach is the only guy in the Bucs org that should have an opinion.

The fact is, in professional sports(and college and hs), no one wants to hear young players run their mouths. The only caveat to that, is if that young player is performing well. McCoy has yet to do that. Doesnt mean he wont, but why doesnt he shut his pie hole until he actually does something… then he can talk all he wants.

  43. Mauha Deeb Says:

I still don’t understand what the big deal was. He admitted they got beat. He didn’t make any excuses. He simply complimented Brady on how much better they are as a team, which they are right now. I just don’t get it.

  44. td32 Says:

Also, King was never high on McCoy, even before the Bucs took him. He wasnt basing his comments simply off one game, but based on what he has seen while McCoy was in college, and since the Bucs drafted him.

  45. BecklesHeartsRuud Says:

Seriously. Im taking names. So when GMC starts to fulfill his potential and the kneejerkers who have already declared him a bust start pretending they knew it all along, I WILL BE CALLING SHENANIGANS!!!

  46. tj Says:

  47. td32 Says:

TJ, what level did you play? If we’re basing the ability to provide analysis on resume, I’d imagine you must have played many, many years of pee wee football. Therefore, maybe you should take some notes from someone that actually was a great college QB, 2nd round pick, and 6 yr NFL vet.

    Just sayin

  48. Vinny Says:

Am I the only one that thought Shaun King WAS a good QB? He wasn’t Josh Freeman, but he was harldy awful. I heard this on the radio and it was hilarious.

  49. td32 Says:

Vinny, how many different offensive coordinators did King have? A lot. And he played early and often as a rookie QB and 2nd yr QB. If Emmanuel doesnt get robbed, King more then likely would have been a Super Bowl winning QB. He wasnt great, but he wasnt awful as some pee wee legends on this board have implied. More TD’s then INt’s in his career. Again, not the best QB, but clearly not garbage.

  50. BecklesHeartsRuud Says:

I went back and read what McCoy said and there was literally nothing McCoy said that could be interpereted as him taking the loss lightly. NOTHING!!! IN FACT HE WAS SPOT ON WITH EVERYTHING HE SAID!!! He was exactly right about the Patriots tempo. The Pats were basically out there in a semi hurry up offense and the Bucs weren’t gameplanned and prepared for that. There will be full gameplans for regular seasons games folks. You can stop all your spastic knee-jerk crying tantrums now. We shouldn’t be freaking out now any more than Kansas City fan should be declaring their season doomed after last week.

  51. m.wesley Says:

Off the air till regular season starts.

  52. BecklesHeartsRuud Says:

td32- Welcome to reality pal. You, Shaun, and his momma are the only three people on earth who think he wasn’t a garbage QB. He only had more TD’s than picks because he was so mortified of actually throwing the ball downfield that he threw the ball away every single time unless some reciever was like wide open by ten yards or something. I have NEVER seen a QB throw the ball away and throw checkdowns more than Shaun King did. The dude was utter garbage and he was out of the league in no time flat.

  53. doug Says:

While I agree with you about Kings’ career, I disagree about his radio program. The King David Show is tons better than sports babe or “The Jungle” for the time slot. And at least they talked about the Bucs during the lockout.

And the show is TONS better than Ron and Ian, who talk about sex, racism and birthdays.

    1) McCoy is outspoken about his faith. He had a weekly radio program last year and his Twitter account is how he maintains contact with the fans in the offseason. This is a big todo about nothing. GMC has said nothing out of line or egotistical. All he’s done is remain positive.

    2) The majority here never played pro sports, but there are plenty who made statements that conflict with Kings statements…such as Steve White, who actually knows defense.

Even if you throw it in their faces, they’ll just ignore it. It’s amazing how people pretend they had an opinion all along when they actually had a different viewpoint earlier.

I experienced the same thing when the Talib incident first came out. I said “Inocent until proven guilty” and everyone said I was an idiot. Now, even Joe has changed his original thoughts on the matter.

  55. td32 Says:

Beckles, maybe you’re the one that needs a reality check. Six years in the NFL is considered no time flat?

  56. td32 Says:

Hey Beckles, King only had the starting job for 2 seasons before he was replaced, lets compare his 1st 2 yrs to Mark Sanchez:
    Sanchez- 54.4% 29TD 33Int 6.6 YPA 70.2QB Rating
    King- 56% 25 TD 17INT 6.3 YPA QB Rating 78.0

Wow, so crappy Shaun King had as good, if not better numbers for his 1st 2 seasons as Sanchez. King didnt get a start after Johnson came in, but it sure looks like he was pretty solid for a young QB.

  57. BecklesHeartsRuud Says:

td32- umm. Maybe you weren’t a Bucs fan back then or you would remember that after starting about a year and half for the Bucs he spent the rest of his so call “career” riding the bench and then embarassingly being cut from various teams after failing to even win a 3rd string QB job.

  58. BecklesHeartsRuud Says:

I guess if you count his embarassing stints looking like a fat lazy sloth of a QB in a handful of cities before being cut in favor of other bums then you consider the last few years of King’s slouching around the NFL part of his “career”. Its funny you bring up Sanchez because the only reason King wasn’t back on the bench after starting that partial year in 1999 was because, like Sanchez, he had a Super Bowl caliber defense covering his ass. You can be a flat out bum and last a year and a half if you have a good enough defense. Its what happened after King lost his brief starting gig in Tampa that shows what caliber of QB he really was and his last couple of years were as ugly and embarassing as any QB thats ever tried to make it in the NFL.

Umm, 5 of his 6 seasons were in Tampa. Not sure why I’m even discussing sports with someone that cant even get his facts straight. A 78 QB rating isnt awful, as you have suggested. Considering he did that in his 1st 2 seasons, I’d say that was pretty solid. But you keep beating your chest thinking he sucked and you know more then King. A lot of people buy that.

  60. BecklesHeartsRuud Says:

Td32- But go ahead and feel free to join Shaun’s momma as the official 2nd member of the Shaun King fan club dude. I heard she’s the President but maybe she would let you be the treasurer?

  61. BecklesHeartsRuud Says:

Td32- Yeah like I said dude, after his brief starting gig he rode the bench for a couple years and then spent a couple years getting cut after extremely ugly tryouts with other teams where he looked like a complete bum. I can’t believe I’m actually arguing with someone who wants to defend Shaun King as anything other than a total bum. I guess I could say something positive about Shaun- He sure was good at throwing the ball away. He might have had the best looking pass out of bounds in NFL history

  62. td32 Says:

Ahhh, we’re playing that game? Maybe McCoy could do more then just penetrate, and actually get to the QB of you werent dangling from his nuts.
I noticed you didnt respond to my point about King actually playing professionally and you not doing squat in football, yet you are comfortable calling him out for his opinions based on how bad you thought he was in the NFL. You’re clearly borderline retarded if you dont get the fact that by calling into question how good he was as a QB, and that’s why his opinion is meaningless, you render your own pee wee playing football slappy azz impotent.

  63. BigMacAttack Says:

    I smelllllll cage match!!!

  64. Garv Says:

Frankly, just me, I wish King would shut up. I think he was a badly conditioned lazy player who thought he was much better than he was. I think he’s been pointing fingers ever since he was drummed out of the league and I’m pretty damn sure I don’t care WHAT he thinks about the buccaneers today.

Why is this man relevant at all? Because he had a good season after Trent got hurt and it went to his head 12 YEARS AGO? LOL

  65. Nate Says:

I think King has some valid points.. But Mccoy is making big money.. I think he needs to produce soon… Especially if we want to goto the play offs were going to need matt ryan and drew brees on the ground…

  66. MikeBucFan Says:

I like how this cats trying to defend Shaun King by comparing him to Mark Sanchez. Lmao, really? Sanchez sucks too pal! King was a bad NFL quarterback and is 100% wrong on GMAC. Get over it.

  67. Apple Roof Cleaning Says:

I have to agree with Pete Ducher. I am normally a loyal WDAE Listener, but don’t care a lot about Jim Rome. So, I turned off WDAE and discovered the King David show. Guess what, thy talk about FOOTBALL ! I like the show, and I am disappointed that Shawn thinks he need to run down GMC for ratings.
GMC was noticed by New England, that’s for sure.

  68. Niko (The Optimist) Says:

This was the first time I did not agree with something Shaun King said. I no longer will ever listen to that King David show WITHOUT King because Toby David is a moron with a guy in the background that just goes “uh huh! Yeah! Tellem!”

But I thought King has some good points, its just that, McCoy is McCoy, he is what he is. He’s a joker, and this was a preseason game. Now that we know the O and D were vanilla, it changes everything.

Lay off McCoy, he’s going to be just fine, watch.

  69. Hawaiian Buc Says:

This is the dumbest sh!$ I have ever read. Are you freakin’ kidding me? I have never seen so many have their panties in a wad over a preseason game. You people that are complaining really have no idea how stupid you sound. It’s as if you have never watched preseason football before, and you expect the results of the preseason to be a duplicate of the regular season (in reality it is normally the exact opposite).

Is this what is going to happen when we lose our first game of the season, because I hate to tell some of you, but we are not going undefeated. If this is how you react after a preseason loss, what’s going to happen when we lose a game that counts? Are we going to call GMC a bust, fire Raheem, blame the ownership, and turn into a bunch or arse holes? I am in pure shock and disbelief that people can be this idiotic.

As for Shaun King, whatever dude. How about if I tell him that kids look up to him and maybe he shouldn’t drink and drive? He’s really good at telling others how to live their lives and how to be a public figure, let’s see how he likes it back. He is giving GMC a hard time because he is not always serious, and he likes to joke around? So you have to go to Pro Bowls in order to joke around? I wasn’t aware of that criteria, my bad. The entire context of the joke was in relevance to this being a preseason game!!! It doesn’t count. His personality off the field has nothing to do with his quality of play on it. To think otherwise is ignorant. So would you rather him punch cab drivers because he takes his aggressive attitude with him off the field? Why doesn’t everyone write him a letter and tell him how YOU think he should act, because I’m sure that will make all the difference in the world.

  70. Paul Says:

“It’s amusing to see people that were cut from their junior varsity high school teams think they know more then a 6 yr NFL QB.”

All you need is to ride the bench in the NFL for the most part of 6yrs and all of your opinions are automatically correct?

  71. BigMacAttack Says:

I think King would have been much wiser to call GMC and voice his opinion over the phone. The “Great Geraldini” may have been more inclined to listen to him. GMC is stronger, faster and getting better as was clearly apparent in the game. Hate, rage & jealousy will often blind you to the truth.

Apple, I agree with you about Romey. I have a hard time listening to him as well and switch over to music during his show. The problem with the Tampa Rock stations though is they all play the same songs, over and over and over.

Who gets cut from their JV team? You have to really be bad not to make that cut.

  72. Sheldon Says:

Shaun King sure has a lot to say for a guy who never had any pineapple in his diet.

    NOTE:
48 – – – How many times he was sacked in his first two years
    34-96 – – – In his 6 years, he only played in 34 of 96 games
    24-96 – – – In his 6 years, he only STARTED 24 of 96 games
20-14 – – – Out of the ONLY 34 GAMES HE PLAYED, he only won 20 games. Think about that. SIX YEARS…20 games.
    14-10 – – – In his 6 years of 24 starts, he only won 14 of 24 games.

Sorry, td, but they guy outright sucked.

  74. Pete Dutcher Says:

PS – – – And as to the facts being right, he didn’t have a 78 QB rating…he had a 73.4 QB Rating.

  75. Matt Says:

@realshaunking…..LOL….No one cares enough to impersonate Shaun King on twitter

  76. Dave Says:

WOW… King is wrong on so many levels with this one.

McCoy does not appear to be doing anything to take away from his focus on getting better and playing football so what is the problem?

King is blasting him for not producing yet… LET THE SEASON START SHAUN!

Again… WOW…….. King is the one who needs to shut it here.

  77. Dave Says:

Sounds like King tried to get a McCoy interview and something din’t go well…..

  78. td32 Says:

Pete, Go look at his 1st 2 season, which is where most of his starts occurred. I specifically said he had a QB rating of 78 in those seasons. Not too shabby. Not great, but not pathetic.
