Welcoming Peter King To The Bucs Bandwagon

January 21st, 2011

Many Bucs fans vividly remember when Peter King of SI.com suggested the Bucs would win two games this past season.

King has many times offered a mea culpa, but Bucs fans would rather see him trampled by the outdated farm machinery at Tampa Bay Downs than hear his apologies.

Since, it seems King has been doing his best to jump on the Bucs bandwagon. Twittering from frosty Chicago last night, King waxed poetic about Bucs quarterback Josh Freeman. Again.

@commoncensus: Freeman = young Rothlisberger?

@SI_PeterKing: Excellent comparison. I really like Freeman a lot, as player+leader.

Joe has noticed that some Bucs fans have taken exception to comparisons between Freeman and Roethlisberger, but Joe believes they are valid.

Freeman and Roethlisberger are of similar size. Both have great escapability for men their size. Both have big arms. Both are mobile. Freeman is a bit better of a runner than Roethlisberger. Both love to fire the ball downfield after dodging traffic.

Joe hopes in the very near future to touch base with Pat Kirwan of Sirius NFL Radio, NFL.com and CBSSports.com. Kirwan, interestingly, compares Freeman to Warren Moon.

The day will come when the prognosticators will be comparing other quarterbacks to Freeman.

Love the Freeman/Roethlisberger comparison on skill, intelligence and capability. Where do they differ? Freeman isn’t likely to be arrested for harrassing and raping women.

In fact, Freeman has the looks to get women withclubbing and dragging them to his cave.

  3. mikeck Says:

Agreed, same skill set but Freeman isnt a a big dumb frat slob….this coming from a former big dumb frat slob

  4. Capt.Tim Says:

Agreed. Big difference- we are Proud to have Freeman as our leader. Pittsburgh is embarrassed, and has to make excuses.that is a huge difference. Especially to the kids idolizing these guys!

Free really needs to cut that hair though! He looks like a damn clown right now.

But on the other hand, the hair might be good luck for him, so I dont know if he should cut it or not.

  6. TrueBlue Says:

Yeh, I’m for leaving the hair. It might be a Samson kind of thing.

  7. aldo Says:

the ´fro is just for confort with the helmet, so i understand him

  8. BigMacAttack Says:

    Go Lightning!!!

And the loose Fro looks cool

I think Josh Freeman would beat some sense into Big Ben. People love to talk about how wonderful the Rooney’s are but they place winning above everything else too. So they booted Santonio and Kept the rapist.

Anyone see the Will Hill Gator tweets on PFT? Talk about an idiot. This guy is a character issue, rapid release, gel-head.

    Freeman > Rothlisberger.

JF’s parents did a great job with the young man. His (and thus the bucs) future is very bright indeed.

    Shibby.

  10. OB Says:

I too have commented on his hair, but I also said it may cushion his head in the helmet when hit by opposing Ds. If so, let him keep it, we need his mind.

As for the comparison to Big Ben, in my book there is none. Josh is so much better with his limited experience and OL. Give him the OLs most of these QBs have with his receivers and it is Katie bar the door time.

He will have the team practicing with or without a contract this off season.

  11. JD Says:

Let’s do be realistic, Ben is shooting for his third Superbowl ring, so any comparison to him is flattering.

  12. SkookumSmitty Says:

Championship Hair. Don’t mess with the FreeFro!

  13. Derf Says:

Does that mean Freeman is gonna jump some chicks in Ybor City bathrooms too?

  14. BuccoBill Says:

I can see the Freeman, Roethlisberger comparisons but Josh has a much higher moral fiber about him and I think he is more consistantly accurate. As for Roethlisberger leading the steelers to their 3rd campionship ring? Can you say “shut down defense!”.

  15. BuccoBill Says:

Trent Dilfer has a championship ring and we all know what kind of a leader/ player he was.
