Rebuilding “Big-Time”

Despite the protests of Raheem the Dream and general manager Mark Dominik, the Bucs are in a rebuilding mode. It’s clear as crystal.

Peter King hasn’t been swayed by Raheem the Dream and the Bucs’ offseason moves, either. In fact, King suggests the Bucs will be one of the NFL’s worst teams in 2009. He ranks all teams, 1 through 32, and the Bucs come in at No. 26.

Rebuilding year. Big-time. Whether Byron Leftwich wins the quarterback job, which I expect him to do and then keep the QB seat warm for Josh Freeman till 2010, this is a team more focused on next year than this one.

Joe can’t quibble with that. When you are looking at Luke McCown, Byron Leftwich or bust-in-waiting Josh Freeman as your quarterback, and the defense, which leaked like a screen door late last year, actually has gotten worse by the offseason moves, it’s hard to imagine the Bucs making a run at .500.

While I generally discount anything Peter King says (he’s often displayed a general disdain for the Bucs), I agree with him on this. The Bucs are definitely rebuilding. And they should be. During the Gruden Era the team’s average age went higher and higher. Time to rebuild the foundation.
