Raheem On Ruud: Hopefully Something Happens

July 29th, 2011

For those who have written off Barrett Ruud from the 2011 Buccaneers, Raheem Morris says not so fast.

The defensive coordinator/head coach said the following this evening on The Steve Duemig Show on WDAE-AM 620.

Steve Duemig: It’s looking more and more like your going to lose Ruud. …Is it unfair to compare these new linebackers to Barrett Ruud?

Raheem Morris: “I don’t know if I want to agree with your statement that we’re going to lose [Ruud] yet,” Morris said. “You never know. It’s still out there. Free agency was really late this year. It actually started, what, yesterday? (Laughs) two days ago. So hopefully something happens there. It’s definitely unfair to compare a man who started for us the last three years and the [Tyrone McKenzie and Mason Foster] who are trying to fight for playing time. …”

All through the offseason, Raheem has praised Ruud and said he wanted him back. So this is nothing new, but the timing is so interesting, as is the contrast to the vibe Mark Dominik put out to the media on Tuesday — that Ruud was old news.

Will the rightful Coach of the Year get his man?

Joe now bumps the chance of a Ruud return to 38 percent.

There at a 50-50 to me they know what there doing. I think there evaluating mckenzie and foster to see how the team chemistry looks…maybe that see something interested but days will past and we shall see.

    wow, from 10% to 38? that’s a big jump.

maybe Dom & Co. are just giving Ruud what he wants – a chance to test the FA waters (only to find his way back home)

Joe – 38%? Where did you get that number? It’s 36%.

  9. TopDoggie Says:

Come on Joe get the facts straight its 34.3%. I think this is good cop bad cop. Dom is driving down the dollars and Rah is letting him know he is still loved.

You know when you are tired of your wife or girlfriend, and you want to break up with her but then suddenly somebody else wants her, so you get jealous and decide to keep her. It’s the same with the Bucs and Ruud they didn’t want him till the Titans did.

  11. BucForce Says:

@ TopDoggie- or are Dom and Rah just not on the same page on Ruud, and never have been? Obviously, Rah as the DC as well as the HC wants the guy on his side of the field instead of a rookie. But Dom has a different evaluation of his talent and/or value to the team, always has.

  12. TopDoggie Says:

@BucForce You might have hit the nail on the head. I wonder how much Dom will give Rah what he wants.
