Only The Bucs

November 5th, 2018

This will make you Frisbee your bowl of corn flakes across the kitchen.

It will also illustrate just how feeble the Bucs defense was yesterday.

Remember the 33-yard double-reverse touchdown run by Stinking Panthers wide receiver Curtis Samuel? Well, it just so happens that Samuel’s whirling, curving run through the Bucs defense as they waved at him like he was running to catch his flight to Barbados at the gate was extra special.

That run actually covered more distance on the ground than any run play in the NFL this season. That comes from NFL.com’s NextGen stats, which chart data using sensors in players’ equipment and in footballs.

Joe has watched the replay a few times and can’t count high enough to record the missed tackles and matador-flips-of-the-cape the Bucs pulled on Samuel.

Dirk likes “explosive” plays. Well his defense provides plenty explosive diarrhea ones each game like this one.

I get an email from the Bucs Sunday, wondering why I haven’t renewed my Season Tickets, after being such a loyal fan all these years….. really? Sunday was the first Bucs came I have missed in over 10 yrs, I was on my boat with my grandson, we had a great day!

  5. El Buco Realisto Says:

Wait, I thought that joe told the sheep that firing Coach Mike Smith would solve the defensive problems??????? You mean the one offseason duct tape job that Jason licht did with an emergency Dline and secondary rebuild is not working???????

joe better find another scape goat to fire and quick!!!!!! or the sheep will go nuts!!!!!!!!!!!!

    GO Bucs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  6. EA Says:

Why has Brent Grimes stunk so much this year? It’s obvious he doesn’t want to make contact with any players on the opposing offense but at least he can jump a routine or two like he’s done in the years past so we don’t own another record for fewest ints for crying out loud.

  7. Chris Cotten Says:

The next three games are very winnable……just saying

  8. SchwiftyBuc Says:

Only Realist could be dumb enough to be defending the guy who constructed the defense that’s on pace to be one of if not the worst defense in NFL history.

Duffner may be calling the plays, but he’s still running Smiths scheme.

  9. SchwiftyBuc Says:

    @EA

It couldn’t have anything to do with the fact that he’s 35… Could it?

  10. Grt1 Says:

Cotten “winnable “ are u serious. Man their are some football illiterate people in this town. This ship has sailed we’re circling the drain boys, time to fish.

When you reach the point where you’d rather be doing anything but inflicting pain upon yourself by watching the hapless, inept Bucs! Been a fan since 1990 and I’ve had enough!

Call me when we have owners that care enough to win , but are smart enough to stay out of football operations, when we have a GM that actually knows how to evaluate & draft players, when we have coaches that know how to coach & develop players and when we have a team full of talented player that actually want to win.

    Until then…..

Made plans this weekend which doesn’t include watching the Bucs game. First time since 1996. I have a feeling I won’t miss anything.

  16. DBS Says:

At least the Lightning are FUN to watch. The Bucs. Well they are kind of fun. If your looking for a good laugh and don’t thake them to serious.

  18. Defense Rules Says:

@SchwiftyBuc … “Duffner may be calling the plays, but he’s still running Smiths scheme.” Good try Swifty, but open your eyes. What does ‘Smiths scheme’ have to do with one Panther running over 100 yards through a Bucs’ defense that can’t tackle worth a hoot? And what does scheme have to do with the Panthers rushing for 179 yards on 32 carries (5.6 YPC average)? Or allowing the Panthers to go 5-for-5 in Red Zone scoring?

Could go on but it’s too danged depressing. Bucs players were getting manhandled out there by a more physical, more talented Panthers TEAM. And for heavens sake stop pointing the finger at Scapegoat Smitty (NEWSFLASH: he’s GONE). Why not point your magic finger of blame at Buckner for the crappy performance of this highly overpaid DLine? Or at Duffner for his woeful LB corps? Here’s an idea … Point it INSTEAD where it belongs: at the REAL architect of this defense; the one who provided the ingredients for this vomit … Jason Licht.

  19. Doctor Stroud Says:

After that fake punt, I am convinced now more than ever that Coach Koetter wants to be fired. This all depends on how many years he has remaining on his contract. What a breath of fresh air! It’s like all the doors and windows are wide open on a cool, spring day. #PaidFloridaVacation

  20. PSLBob Says:

What’s particularly disturbing is the momentous swing in enthusiasm for so many of us posting on the Joes site. Remember all they hype and how we couldn’t wait for the season to begin. Now we can’t wait for it to be over so we can start building hope again for next year. Collectively, the loyal fans are the biggest Charlie Brown in the world, and the Bucs are Lucy with the proverbial and literal football.

  21. Bucs Fan #7423 Says:

This entire organization is a dumpster fire. We gotta get rid of Licht, Jameis, and the entire coaching staff

  22. ATrain Says:

The Bucs need to get a Coach that is serious about winning and not scared to cut a player

If a player isn’t performing Bye Bye. I don’t care if he performs for someone else that does the Bucs no good like Talib

Get rid for the soft minded players who aren’t leaders

    This Coaching staff is soft
    See it in the field.

What reaction would Tomblin had with the
    At reverse
You would have seen flying all over the side line

  23. El Buco Realisto Says:

Defense Rules has it right once again!!!!!!! And the question that sheep need to be asking was that even the scheme that Coach Smitty wanted to run, or was he forced to run a scheme that GMC wanted??????? Why does the local media go to press conferences and they don’t ask question to learn, but questions to get the quote they want to finish their pre-written story!!!!!!!!!

But the sheep need to be herded to answers and solutions that they will not like!!!!! That a new gm and coach with full control over the roster and that their should be no sacred cows on the roster!!!!!!! Can the sheep handle that???? Can the sheep stomach a gutting of their favorite players???? Their is a small core of players that should be kept and a Raiders like gutting of the rest!!!!!!!

Can the sheep handle that????? Can they accept the truth??????

    GO Bucs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  24. TonyC Says:

I’ve been saying it since last year that Licht has no real vision. It seems like he operates on a whim season to season. For instance he signs softees like Baker and Johnson releases them and then suddenly decides it’s time to “toughen up” the line with hard nose players but leaves the secondary vulnerable.

  25. TonyC Says:

Btw where are the results from so called beefed up line? I just don’t believe Koetter is capable of being a head coach having to oversee both the offense and defense. There’s definitely a disconnect beteeen Koetter and the defensive players and coaches.

  27. JabooBuc Says:

Teams/Organizations need a credo or vision to aspire to. Something that says if you are part of this then this is what we are about. It sounds cheesy but teams that have that generally succeed more often than those that do not.

For example, under Dungy you knew this team was going to play defense and hold each other to a standard. This organization needs this. They need someone if come in and strip it to the studs and build an identity.

I like Dirk but think he lacks a clear stated vision for this team. Without that, you get chaos which is what we are seeing now.

  28. TonyC Says:

And this running back situation is sickening. They could have drafted a competent back last year beefed up the secondary through free agency instead of assuming that Barber was a number one back. Plus the O Line has questions as well.

  29. SchwiftyBuc Says:

Yeah that’s it realist. Mike Smith didn’t design his own scheme. It was all Gerald McCoy. You sound like you belong in the loony bin.

  30. Frank Pillow Says:

The only thing explosive about this team is the persistent diarrhea like effort from our ‘stars.’ Evans didn’t get off the plane. DJax was busy nursing his bruised feeling. McCoy was reading comic books. Lavonte wouldn’t have been able to cover the Olsen twins. Grimes was daydreaming about retirement. Dirk and his minions continued to be out coached by Riverboat Ron and Jason continued to look incompetent, as compared to every other GM in the division.
It’s time for the nuclear option- we’re on the road to nowhere.

  31. El Buco Realisto Says:

that’s it schwiftybuc!!!! Keep wondering why your idols and hero’s keep under-achieving and how all these coaches keep holding them back!!!!!!! LOL!!!!!!!!

Keep wondering why coaches will take a pass on “fixing” JW3″ and “building another defense around” GMC!!!!!!!

    Go Bucs!!!!!!!!!!

  32. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

To top things off on that play, it only worked because our safety left his assignment. Had he run his defensive zone properly, he would have been there to stop the play.

  33. Crack3rK Says:

Will the last fan out the door please turn off the Licht? See ya next season.

  34. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

El Buco Realisto, hopefully one day Joe will just ban your IP Address, since every time he suspends you, you just create a new name.

    Tmaxcon, right?

  35. Bob in Valrico Says:

Just like the sog “Lookin for Love in all the wrong places”. We need to start looking for players from solid defensive schools. Clemson ,Alabama, and others
will have more fundamentally sound football players because it appears they work on fundamentals. Our younger players don’t have a solid base in the fundamentals IMO. I watched a number of plays that our defensive players
either had a bead on the offensive player and they either whiffed or didn’t wrap
    up and blew the tackle.

  36. Mort Says:

What do you guys expect with all the youth on defense?

  37. DBS Says:

The same thing other teams are getting from their youth. some kind of production.

  38. SchwiftyBuc Says:

If you knew anything you’d know that I correctly predicted that this would be GMC’s worst year as a Buc despite the Dline upgrades. W/e tho.

  39. SteveK Says:

We should cut everyone on Defense that’s on a second contract. Why bother paying salary cap towards the worst in the league?

I’d pay JPP, but that’s it.

  40. Jimmyjr Says:

I actually forgot there was football on yesterday because I was working , and caught up at 3rd quarter when they gave me hope of a come back only once again to show me this team is a disaster. I’m thankful for Ryan Fitzpatrick I hope he comes back next year and we can give him a quality defense. The man plays with a lot of heart and is not Adarius to take on men twice his size

    Players that NEED to go
    GMC
    Desean Jackson
    D Smith
    Grimes

  41. GhostofSchiano Says:

    Why bother

  42. 813bucboi Says:

    SWIFTY

    LOL…..never mind @rhealist & DR…..lol….

these are the same fools who were rooting for smitty while having the worst defense 2years in a row….lol….

smitty ruined this defense and the players in it…..

its not like duff could’ve came in and switched to a 34 defense….its mid season…..duff has to run the same defense but the thing that he’s doing that smitty was unable to do is make adjustments!!!!!!

yesterday was a simple case on the panthers coaches out coaching dirk and his staff, yet again…..and all those offensive stats came in garbage time again…..

the quicker dirk gets canned, the quicker @realist and @DR leave us to help him pack!!!!!!!

    #NOEXCUSESIN2018!!!!…#PRESSURESONTHECOACHES!!!!….GO BUCS!!!!

  43. Troy Says:

Anyone who tells me a player on this defense is pro-bowl caliber is dreaming. The entire defense needs to be rebuilt. Hopefully, a fresh set of eyes will be able to evaluate the talent objectively, see that most of it is backup material at best, and get to cuttin.

  44. The Buc Realist Says:

    813broccoli says
“its not like duff could’ve came in and switched to a 34 defense…”

Actually close on that one for once!!!!!!! Word on the street is that is what the last defensive coordinator wanted and was told to work with the “Talent?” and keep building around certain players!!!!!!!!!

    #free_The_Realist!!!!!!!!!

    GO Bucs!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  45. SteveK Says:

    We’ve gone 5 games without a turnover generated, that’s a franchise record. 😢

  46. SOEbuc Says:

Not an excuse at all for this play, but aren’t the Bucs missing two fast, hard hitting starting LBs. No excuses for injuries but Kwon was playing well this year before he went down and Beckwith is the real deal not just a one hit wonder.

  47. Alanbucsfan Says:

The only thing missing on that play was the Stanford band in the end zone

  48. Bucsalltheway Says:

Cam could have pitched the ball to himself with our d…our line despite getting high prospects never get a push up the middle when u can bull rush you can extend the play in your favor and get an offense off rhythm. The bucs have failed to do so miserably all season long a tedious fix.

  49. Bucsalltheway Says:

Whenever we penetrate QBs have room to step up due to the dl playing wide gaps…I never see the bucs adjust or give a different look. We run the same base formation on defense I’m sure on film you see it doesnt change much.

  50. Bucsalltheway Says:

I miss the good old “fumble or interception streak” the bucs of old had you just knew a take away would happen every week in and out. This defense is beyond putrid and vital vea on that curtis samuel run had the perfect angle and flopped. I never seen a team who doesnt swarm to the ball close a lane to redirect said runner…and nassib stopped running after him once he passed him.

  51. 813bucboi Says:

    realist

word on the street is that dirk may not make it to the end of the season with another blow out of 2…..

and the last DC should’ve developed the “talent” he had instead of being mr.coach my scheme……

you know why they let smitty go on Monday morning?….because that’s when the city of tampa picks up the trash at OBP!!!!!!!

    #NOEXCUSESIN2018!!!!….#PRESSURESONTHECOACHES!!!!!…GO BUCS!!!!
