“I Miss These Guys”

Ever since the Bucs calamity that was Tampa Bay free agent defensive end Michael “Ghost” Johnson, Joe is hypersensitive to free agents who arrive wishing they were still with their old team.

It seems the Bucs might have one of those guys now.

Apologies in advance to the crowd who will think Joe is an idiot after reading the next few paragraphs, but Joe isn’t backing off this. It’s a red flag worth monitoring.

Defensive end Vinny Curry, who arrived from the Super Bowl champs in March and turns 30 this month, joined his former Eagles brethren Thursday to get his Super Bowl ring at a team ceremony.

Curry was a favorite son during his six seasons in Philly, a lifelong Eagles fan from central New Jersey who hit the lottery joining his hometown club.

Per Zack Rosenblatt of NJ.com, Curry returned to Philadelphia on Thursday night, “and it was like he never left.”

“I miss these guys,” Curry said. “It’s with guys you love and put it all out there on the line with, so this is going to be a great feeling once it’s in my hand.”

Joe is not taking a shot at Curry here, just simply keeping the lessons of history in the forefront. For those who missed it, Michael Johnson’s agent dropped this bomb 11 months after Johnson was signed by Tampa Bay in 2014. He missed his old teammates too, after he joined the Bucs.

So far in Tampa, Curry has been a strong teammate, apparently attending all voluntary practices and drawing mad respect of young players. Joe had a private chat with Curry and he offered a strong and inspiring message to Bucs fans. Joe remains a Curry fan.

Still, a veteran who misses his old team, a guy who has never dealt with Florida heat (Curry told Joe the climate will be his greatest challenge), is a guy worth watching closely.

I would miss my Super Bowl winning team mates, also. They helped me accomplish my dream winning a SB playing for Philly. It’s appreciated.

  2. BringBucsBack Says:

Hopefully he behaves like a consummate professional. Of course he misses the Super Bowl winning team, they just won the Super Bowl!

  3. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Completely different. Michael Johnson’s agent claimed he was never a pass rusher…yet he was signed because of his sack total the year before. His agents certainly had no problem saying he could get sacks when they negotiated with Tampa!

With Curry, we know exactly what we got. There was no misrepresentation by his agent. By himself, Curry was not a great signing. He was and is a stopgap. But when you add JPP and Vea, Curry becomes that guy who teams will underestimate around mid season, while they try to deal with the rest of the line.

And with him there, Noah Spence might stay healthy.

  4. Reality-is-a-Beotch Says:

Going from a professional sports franchise to the worst professional ad pirrs franchise on t by e planet is a big transition cant blame him. From hope to no hope. You’d be pissed too

  5. Reality-is-a-Beotch Says:

Not to mention having to play next to the soft one would make any normal man nauseous

  6. Drew aka q Says:

He missew his teammates…. if you work at a job for 6 7 years you have a relationship built with your co workers… you joke have fun and do your job together… you leave that job for a better paying job … you drive back to see you old co workers…. yeah you will miss that time you had working with them … you may have had a different atmosphere there than where you are now… so i dont take this as a buyer beware…. it is ownership and the front office who decided to not to resign him because of whatever reason it was

  7. Pryda... sec147 Says:

He is a professional unlike ghost or Swaggy I’m sure it doesn’t mean he won’t play 110%

  8. johnnybuc Says:

smh here goes joe again reading way too deep into a simple quote that a player makes . what do u expect him to say , “oh i hated all my teammates that i won a super bowl with and couldn’t wait to get out of there.” i mean even if that was the case the chances he’s going to go out and publicly say that is close to zero. smh another article by joe with absolutely zero substances to add onto the long list of meaningless overreaction posts by this site..

  9. Warren Says:

    Wonderful. 😐

  10. Tampabaybucfan Says:

I’d be far more concerned if he didn’t miss his teammates……after all, he is human…..and probably a loyal guy…..he will adjust because he is a pro..

Also, he gets to play next to the Pro-bowler GMC….he won’t be missing them once the action starts.

  11. Not there yet Says:

Yep Joe you read my mind and I thought it was an idiotic post. You’re not an idiot you have a job to do and your do it well. But theconnection it’s irrelevant. We sign free agents every off-season. No need too compose because one trash free agent was homesick. Both said they missed teammates so what it doesn’t make the situation the same

Especially since curry was cut by his team

  12. Steven007 Says:

I see the true soft one, Trollmax/Reality, is back posting after not having any recent defensive line posts to hijack. It must be Monday.

  13. AlabamaBucFan Says:

I agree with both of the prior statements made, this was one idiotic posting, secondly, it would be a greater concern if he did not miss his old teammates.
But then again this is an entertainment website and Joe does a great job keeping me entertained even though some of his posting are quite doltish.

  14. Wausa Says:

    I agree with Joe
    It’s a red flag

  15. ChanT Says:

The same people calling this idiotic probably said all of Joe’s pounding on Doug Martin before last season was stupid. I think Curry will be fine but I fully appreciate Joe paying attention and being willing to hold players accountable.

  16. 813bucboi Says:

    here we go again….

    #NOEXCUSESIN2018!!!…#PRESSURESONTHECOACHES!!!!….GO BUCS!!!

  17. Pickgrin Says:

Curry was about the best available from an incredibly shallow pool of available free agent DEs this off-season. His contract is low risk for the team and he can be released next year with no penalty if it doesn’t “work out”.

Vinny seems to conduct himself as a professional – so I don’t forsee any problems with this player nor expect we will see any lack of effort either from Curry.

At the very least Curry should represent an upgrade over Gholston, Will Clarke and Ryan Russell…

  18. webster Says:

This is a stupid made up story to get the sheep all riled up. John lynch missed tampa when he left and he said so early and often. Its human nature. Again, nothing to see here. Michael johnson is a different story. He had 11 sacks two years before coming to tampa. The year before tampa signed him, he had 3.5 sacks. He was not simeon rice but the sheep brought that nonsense and now want to blame him because he did not live up to hype the media and team was selling. He gave the bucs the same production he has given every year outside of one. He is who he is which is a person who gets 4-5 sacks a year with the exception of 2012.

  19. Mike Johnson Says:

Winners miss other Winners. Losers? They just clean out their lockers and dread returning the following year. Bucs need to start Winning.

  20. DB55 Says:

Can’t wait til dec when the real us fans start throwing Curry under he bus and using him as a scapegoat. just simply keeping the lessons of history in the forefront

  21. SB Says:

OK Joe I stick up for you a bunch but you are SO FAR off base on this one. I understand that it is the off-season and you have to do your job but you have obviously never been on a team that won any type of championship or in battle of any type. Whenever you WIN something substantial with a group of guys and had to sacrifice A Ton to get there you will ALWAYS miss those guys. It is a life-long ingrained memory. Almost tactile in fact. Nothing to see here.

  22. SB Says:

    DB……….WTF are you talking about??????

  23. chargedcbh Says:

So because it happened once, it’s going to happen again? Yeah you are an idiot! If you don’t have any stories, it’s ok, your reaching for stuff.

  24. Owlykat Says:

Curry will give his all this year. You will see why he was a fan favorite in Philly. I am not bothered that he showed normal emotion in receiving a SB Ring. He will also help our younger players understand the dedication you have to have for your team and all the hard work that goes into winning a SB Ring.

  25. mizzle Says:

yooo lmaoooo you need the season to start pretty bad i’d get tired of over analyzing everything

  26. Trench War Says:

He’ll make friends here too! ..Just for his sake let’s hope the Eagles don’t repeat.

  27. Bucnjim Says:

when will people ever learn a zebra does not change it’s stripes! A blue collar guy like Curry has enough pride to give everything he has. A prima Donna like Baker is about money. Proven time and time again! The hardest thing you would think is the draft because you do not know what you are getting before the get their hands on the first check.

  28. Bucnjim Says:

Also it is an age old battle not only in the NFL but in the every day work force. If you don’t LOVE what you are doing you can’t be one of the best!

  29. BigMacArtack Says:

It’s all about winning. If the Bucs have kickice defense and start winning consistently, he will put Phili out of his mind. If the Bucs are backnto perennial sucking ways and start losing again, he’ll long for Home until he gets back. Winning solves most ailments

  30. Captain Obvious’ Asian Dildoh Says:

If they say it or not, unless they’re a complete douche , of course all players miss their old teams… they fight battles with those guys.
