“He’s A New Type Of Animal For The Defense”

Too often, it feels like the Bucs are re-inventing themselves.

It’s what struggling franchises do. At least it’s interesting.

Joe heard Noah Spence speak yesterday and it seems Spence feels a new era upon Buccaneers nation, courtesy of free agent defensive end Vinny Curry.

“Like I said, it’s a blessing, man. I feel like them dudes bring like a different type of energy,” Spence said. “Like, Vinny’s always talking; he’s a new type of animal for the defense. He just gives us all energy when we get on the field. So it’s like, you’ve got dudes like that’s just talking all the time and just telling us to ‘Get better. Get better.’ It’s like, I mean, you can’t lose.”

It sure sounds there like Spence sees Curry as one who leads by example and vocally. Did the Bucs not have that previously at defensive line? This is Spence’s third season.

Whatever works is what Joe wants.

If it’s Curry leading the way, great, or Jason Pierre-Paul or Gerald McCoy, or even manbeast rookie Vita Vea, who clearly has the respect of teammates and is wowing coaches with bizarre feats of strength.

thought ayers was “that guy” the past couple of years……

    every year its the same bull…..this player talkin….that player talkin…..we’re getting better…..he’s a dog…..blah blah blah…….

hopefully he’ll be “talking” and “giving all energy” when the real bullets start flying….help us win some games damn it!!!!!!!

    #NOEXCUSESIN2018!!!!…#PRESSURESONTHECOACHES!!!!….GO BUCS!!!

  2. AlteredEgo Says:

template offseason talk about new players and coaches….

  3. BushidoEvans Says:

@813 it was Ayers that first year, but he was often injured. Once the commander can’t ride his horse he is no longer the commander…or if you are fan of SOA once you can’t ride you loose your seat.

  4. Anonymous Says:

Awesome to hear about Curry, still nervous we haven’t seen JPP anywhere yet.

  5. Mike in LOL Says:

Love the SOA reference Bushido, amazing show

  6. stpetebucsfan Says:

What a difference a year makes. Remember last year when even the rookies so disrespected Swaggy’s effort they made him the butt of one of their talent show jokes and the entire team exploded in laughter.

  7. richbucsfan Says:

    Zzzzzzz. Zzzzzz

  8. Darin Says:

That’s a heck of a line Joe. It about sums it up to me. Too often it feels like the bucs are re-inventing themselves. It seems like they are trying to every year. I cant wait until we get a regime in here who knows what they want to do and sticks with it. These guys seem to change up their philosophy every year based on past seasons failures. Its great they seem to be learning but who wouldnt? Its incredible to me the glazers are buying it. I’m hopeful for a successful season but if not lets get some guys in here who know who they are!

  9. dmatt Says:

It’s good to have real soldiers on the roster with a prove to win now attitude. Last year we had “CHEESE BURGER BAKER” sitting on his rear end mocking the kicker instead of motivating n encouraging him. He was a disgust n embarrassment that lead to the demise of our defense last year. Kwon thanks for stepping up n calling him out. “Garbage in garbage out”. Bring on JPP n the Calvary. I’ll take JPP over “CBB” any day.

  10. Buc4lyfe79 Says:

What 813bucboi said. Ayers showed his true colors and conveniently disappeared from both the practice and playing fields once his ex rookie teammate “Swaggy” showed up.

  11. Defense Rules Says:

I get that the Bucs (and yourself?) are trying to get us all hyped-up about the Bucs new toys. Can’t blame you all, that’s what sells tickets (and JBF). But really, all most JBFers really want is production on the field … translating into W’s. We’ve been at the bottom of the pit for almost 15 years now, and every year it’s the same talk, talk, talk. We fixed this, we fixed that, blah, blah, blah. Lots of promises, but almost always the results have been the same … followed by way too many excuses. Tough schedule, too many ‘holes’ and ‘unknowns’ remaining, but that doesn’t matter. FIND A WAY TO GIT ER DONE … NO MORE EXCUSES.

  12. Cobraboy Says:

It’s been a while since Warren Sapp left the house with his no-BS, no-excuse, mouthy leadership backed by his play.

  13. Casey Morgan Says:

Don’t worry about JPP. He will be there with bells on next week…

  14. DBS Says:

Every year we hear the same thing about a FA they bring in. How about less talk and more action.

  15. Nick2 Says:

Obiously GMC was not that kind of guy. Quiet and helping up the opponent was not the style Deacon Jones had that’s for sure.

  16. BigHogHaynes Says:

    GMC THE GOD

  17. unbelievable Says:

They brought in Ayers to be that guy. He was for a bit, but then injuries had their way with him.

GMC was never the vocal guy, we’ve known that.

I agree as others have said, the story is getting repetitive. Let’s see some results already.

But at the same time, of course they’re gonna always says stuff like this, year in and year out. What’s the alternative, realistically? “Nah, we sucked last year and this year feels exactly the same, nothing has changed..” lol.

  18. Not there yet Says:

Teams out there working hard. All the signs are there and Joe’s giving a lot of key signs the team didn’t put in the work last year. It’s the off-season you can’t get less talk and more action until we can actually able to watch them play. All they can give is quotes but you’d rather them shut and say nothing, no news at all until the season starts because your still pouting about last year? Jaded scary fans scared to root for the team they love this year because of last year…..a lot of you don’t really sound like fans At all

That season is over and a champion has been crowned let it go

  19. Tom S. Says:

@BushidoEvans Robert Ayers played in 12 games and had 6.5 sacks the second most sacks of his career in his first year with the Bucs. If your argument is that Ayers words didn’t carry weight because he wasn’t a bigger part of the team, I’d point you to the fact that Vinny Curry has only had one season out of six where he had more than 4 sacks in a season and is brand new to Tampa.

If 6.5 sacks in 12 games isn’t enough for the line to listen to you I have bad news for the words that Curry is currently saying.

Just another offseason puff piece where we catalog every “Greatest shape of his life” and “leadership” article we can before the games and results actually come in.

  20. Scotty in Fat Antonio Says:

If there is no remarkable improvement in preseason games with standout rookie(s)/player(s), it will blend over in to the regular season. Reference the last 6 years. The regular season will get ugly….FAST!

  21. GhostofSchiano Says:

Well hopefully he plays like Opie from SOA and not Opie from The Andy Griffith Show.

  22. Capt.Tim Says:

    Nick2
Nope, but it was Leeroy Selmons style
And he was a better Defensive linemen Deacon Jones or Warren Sapp.

Keep buying into that”plays Angry”, or “Is an Animal” BS if you want.
Thats all PR speak for the less informed fans.

Pro football players train together, vacation together, Party together.
Its about skill and talent. Those are the only thing that matters in the Pros.
They are coached, by the Bucs Public relations dept, to say all that other crap that seems to excite some of the zombies around here.

“He brings a new Attitude.” “There is a new energy in lockerroom”. “He brings a physical presence”- and a dozen other quotes you are reading, are all being repeated by pkayers on 32 teams.
    Same exact lines.
Because they are all being taught to the players- by guys in suits and ties, to try and get the zombies and sheep enthusiastic about he new season- so they will buy tickets and merchandise.
It is exactly like Pro wrestling- players are coached on what to say, “ grudge matches”, etc. TO MAKE THE TEAM MONEY.
Because its only a sport to fans.
To the players and the owners- its about money, its about business.

So believe all that”new attitude”, or “ hes a savage” crap if you want.
    You are getting played.
Its pro wrestling. Only Pro Wrestling finally admitted that they were lying to you.
And there were sheep that had believed wrestling was real, too.

  23. Tampabaybucfan Says:

With our new depth….and I don’t think anyone can really argue we don’t have more depth….we should see an improvement with our preseason performance.

And….with underwear football….all they can really do is talk….and stay healthy…..we’ll see.

  24. cmurda Says:

Yeah 813. I’m not buying until we put up some W’s up when it matters. Sure I think Licht had a great draft and we should be primed but I’ve been thinking that pretty much every year so like my boy DB55 says, WTFDIK.

  25. Owlykat Says:

I am glad Vinny tried to get them up in practice. He has a lot of experience in the NFL to share and help train the younger players. Remember when we had a veteran LG who took D. Smith and Marpet under his wing and helped train them. Warhop badly needed that help because he has been the architect of the worse OLs we have suffered through.
