Team Glazer Audio: “Quite Honestly, Dirk Showed Us A Lot”

April 5th, 2018

Bucs co-chairman Joel Glazer.

Here’s a rare look inside the mind of Team Glazer.

Much love to the Bucs for allowing audio nuggets from last week’s JoeBucsFan.com/Joel Glazer chat session in Orlando to be shared here.

In the nearly five-minute cut above, you’ll hear Ira Kaufman, Tampa Bay’s only Pro Football Hall of Fame voter, pepper the Buccaneers co-chairman with a handful of questions, and get his answers.

Topics include the decision to retain Dirk Koetter, effort and distractions, the Jameis investigation, and the importance of toughness for ownership.

This is a Part I event. The second and final part runs next week, featuring Joe engaging Mr. Glazer.

Joe was most taken in today’s segment by Glazer’s heartfelt respect for Dirk Koetter’s leadership. It seems Team Glazer, despite a frustrating, kick-in-the-gut season, greatly appreciates how Koetter had the Bucs ready on opening day after a hurricane totally disrupted the team, and then how the head coach had the team playing hard at the finish against playoff teams.

Enjoy the audio.

    what about all the games in between?……more excuses huh!!!!!!
    #NOEXCUSESIN2018!!!!!!…..GO BUCS!!!!
    There are no excuses given in the audio, or in the full interview. –Joe

  2. buddy Says:

    #KluelessKoetter is in wayyyy over his head. Jameis has been telling people Dirk won’t run the plays that he likes. Koetter’s arrogance is wearing thin on people inside that building. Can’t wait for Black Monday so we can get this overrated guy the heck out of here.

  3. DB55 Says:

    He did win 5 games instead of the normal 2-4 games per season so technically it is an improvement. Technically

  4. DB55 Says:

    how the head coach had the team playing hard at the finish
    ——————-
    *how the 21 yo quarterback had the team …..
    You misspelled quarterback Joe. Why make stuff up? –Joe

  5. BetterBuccinBelieveIt Says:

    Good stuff on the audio. Good hard-hitting journalism by Ira. Joel needs to make himself available periodically more often during the season and offseason.

    Go Bucs!

  6. The Buc Realist Says:

    We tried to tell the sheep!!!!!! Too many distractions and holes on the roster/injuries for the good coaches on this staff to cover up!!!!!! We are very lucky to have 2 good Coordinators calling plays in Tampa!!!!!!!!!

    We also tried to tell the sheep that it was more than just no win and a lot of losses that got loser lovie fired!!!!!! It was so apparent to see the incompetence that the Glazer’s were on the verge ( and should have) canned classless loser lovie after the first year!!!!!!!!!!!

    very excited to see the Bucs in 2018!!!!!!! With another offseason from the total rebuild of the talk show dominik disaster!!!!!!!!!!!

    Thank you Team Glazer!!!!!!!!!!!!

    And GO BUCS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  7. Mike Johnson Says:

    WE fans don’t care how the Bucs finished. WE.(most of us).actually wanted them to tank against the Saints to move up in the draft. I can’t wait to see if the Glazers trust in Koetter will pan out. Koetter has more pieces on Defense and he has the tools all other teams have. The final record will revela what the team truly has this upcoming season. Win Koetter or hit the road with your faithful companion Smitty !

  8. Chris@Apple Roof Cleaning Tampa Says:

    Football Fans can sure see things differently sometimes. I like Dirk Koetter, but one of my buddies hates his guts. When I reminded him that the Bucs played hard for Koetter, he reminded me that the Germans fought hard for Hitler too, but still lost the war.
    Philly winning the Super Bowl was the worst thing for me. Now, I have to listen to my know it all friend, who says “See how fast good coaching and a good General Manager can turn a team around ” ?
    And you know what, he is absolutely correct! Chip Kelley decimated Philly, but their General Manager and Coach turned things around for them.
    Something to think about, huh ?

    GOOD!!!!!!!!!……I hope that trend continues!!!!!!!…….I don’t want to hear any once the real bullets start flying!!!!!!!!!!!

    #NOEXCUSESIN2018!!!!!!…..GO BUCS!!!!!!

  10. 813bucboi Says:

    @CHRIS

    I agree with your buddy……

    #NOEXCUSESIN2018!!!!!!….GO BUCS!!!!!

  11. The Buc Realist Says:

    @Chris@apple roof

    Philly bottomed out at 7-9 for 2 years!!!!! Their team was not talk show host dominik/loser lovie decimated!!!!!!! Just because they moved up in the draft does not mean they bottomed out in the league like the Bucs did!!!!!!! Chip Kelly went 10-6, 10,6 and 7-9,
    Then Doug Pederson went 7-9 then 13-3

    If a buc coach decimated a team like that, the Glazer would give a 19 year extension!!!!!!!!!

    Look up that facts before posting please!!!!!!!!!

    G0 Bucs!!!!!!!!

  12. webster Says:

    @ chris

    Philly has had the same gm since 2010. Thanks for playing

  13. webster Says:

    Also that same gm has been with the eagles organization since 2000. There are no quick turnarounds

  14. Blake_Bucsfan Says:

    Seems to me like Joel Glazier values Interior offensive line play and that winning starts in the trenches.

  15. StPeteBucsFan Says:

    @Buddy

    “Jameis has been telling people Dirk won’t run the plays that he likes. Koetter’s arrogance is wearing thin on people inside that building. Can’t wait for Black Monday so we can get this overrated guy the heck out of here.”

    That’s just BS!!! First…WHO has Jameis told Dirk doesn’t run plays he likes. Did he do it in an interview that we missed. Do you know he and his friends well enough they would share that with you?

    Koetter’s arrogance? Again…WHO are these people inside the building. I’ve NEVER heard Koetter described as arrogant.

    Can’t wait for Black Monday to see Koetter get fired. So you don’t root for the Bucs then do you!!! First off we’d have to have a bad season for that to happen.
    Secondly Koetter is STILL a Buc why would you root against him?

    Translation…for whatever imagined reason I dislike Koetter so I’ll just type a bunch of made up BS.

    Now you can still get the last laugh. Just post some verifiable links to stories or interviews or ANYTHING that you just typed. Otherwise it pretty much comes across as just ad hominem from a guy who simply doesn’t like Dirk.

  16. Chris@Apple Roof Cleaning Tampa Says:

    @Webster
    Yes, The Philly General Manager has been with them forever, however, he was totally neutered by Chip Kelley.
    Kelley made the final decisions, and not until he left was their GM free to do what he saw fit.
    The proof is in the pudding, and Philly has been shaped into the best team in football.

  17. StPeteBucsFan Says:

    BTW

    Everybody is entitled to their opinion but really…some of you set yourself up for possible embarrassment.

    So the Bucs win 11 or more and how many posters will be back here to say…

    I was wrong about Koetter…wrong about Jameis…wrong about GMC etc.

    If the Bucs suck this year then I will be the one who is wrong. I shall not care because the real pain is having the Bucs lose not any loss of my imagined football expertise. LOL

  18. Jjones Says:

    Any GM that’s been with an organization for 8 years can get it right at some point.

  19. Chris@Apple Roof Cleaning Tampa Says:

    @TheBucsRealist
    Here is what I meant by Chip Kelley decimated the Philadelphia Eagles “Chip Kelly traded All-Pro running back LeSean McCoy to the Buffalo Bills for linebacker Kiko Alonso (who was a former Oregon Duck under Kelly) and Pro Bowl quarterback Nick Foles to the St. Louis Rams for quarterback Sam Bradford on March 10, 2015, and both trades were met with negative reception from Eagles fans ”

    Those were terrible trades, that Decimated the Eagles of some of their Talent.

    I do agree with you that the combined negative effects on our team by Mark Dominick and Lovie Smith were far far worse.

  20. derrickbrooksforGM Says:

    Everyone spinning. We know what happened. We know this is all B.S. Will an owner lie to CYA and take heat off the head coach and GM, uh YES.

    We know this is Koetter and Licht’s last year and we’re stuck with them. I hope they prove us all wrong and make the playoffs.

  21. Jjones Says:

    @DerrickbrooksforGM…EXACTLY!

  22. The Buc Realist Says:

    @Chris Apple Roof!!!!!!!
    Just because fans did not like chip kelly does not mean those were bad trades!!!!!!!!! Would the Eagles have won the superbowl if the did not make them???? did they not get a bounty for bradford from the vikings?????

    Come On Fruit Roof, you are better than that!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    GO Bucs!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  23. BigBucFan11 Says:

    See I like Dirk, but I can’t get past some of the horrible clock management mistakes he’s made. Even if he can put together some good games and game plans, I’ll always be worried he’ll screw us right in the clutch moment with something like that.

  24. unbelievable Says:

    @BigBucFan11

    I hear you on the clock management. It’s been an issue both his seasons as HC.

  25. Dusthty Rhothdes Says:

    GM for Eagles, ABSOLUTELY was not w team in any football capacity for chips years w the team, he was banished to the side of the complex that dealt w promotions nothing to do w football, but came back wheeled n dealed and got lombardi on broad st,

  26. Bproud81 Says:

    They were just playing to win . Like everybody wants to do! Only loosers Tank! Cmon man! I respect them for their love of the Game !

  27. cmurda Says:

    Dirk Koetter this…. Dirk Koetter that. I can go either way. There’s a lot I like about Koetter and there is also a lot I agree with from DB55. More importantly to me, it’s Mike Smith that has crushed this team. I said it before Mike Smith was hired. We are going to regret not hiring Jim Schwartz. That dude just had a balling defense and enjoyed a Superbowl win.

  28. unbelievable Says:

    @cmruda- I don’t think Schwartz would have come here anyway. Think about the d-line he would have been inheriting…

    And if we’re being objective, it was our defense that propelled us into the 5 game win streak in 2016. Offense was very pedestrian for 4 of those 5 games.

    That all being said, I can’t stand Mike Smith’s scheme with corners playing 10 yards off their man on every play. But maybe our d-line will get some pressure this year and change everything. At the very least, we should do a much better job against the run, which does set you up better against the pass.

  29. Blake_Bucsfan Says:

    @unbelievable

    it wasn’t our D, it was a whole bunch of luck, and a crap ton of key injuries to the other teams.

    It was a mirage. A sham. A hoax. A wisp of smoke amidst a forest fire. Like tears in the rain.

  30. Jjones Says:

    Maybe that mix of a 4 3 and 3 4 defense Smith wanted to run last year is more of a reality this year. When you look at who we acquired(Beckwith, Stevie T, Baker the bust) I believe this was a real possibility, especially if Baker would have shown up and Stevie wasn’t injured the entire year. Now with the additions of Allen, Curry, Unrein and JPP we could make it happen. Allen, Curry and Unrein all have experience in a 3 4 defense, Philly ran a 3 4 defense from 2013 to 2015 and Unrein was in a 3 4 from 2015 to 2017 under Fox.

  31. NFLNut Says:

    Ira’s voice cracks me up … sounds like Cousin Vinny!

  32. buddy Says:

    @StPeteBucsFan You also are entitled to YOUR opinion. You have ZERO idea who I know inside that building or how close I am to Jameis or others inside his circle, or how long I personally have spent and continue to spend inside that building. Whether you like it or not Dirk is not liked inside that building from longtime staffers, to people one the 2Buc side which since you’ve never stepped foot inside of it is the business side.

  33. webster Says:

    @ chris

    There were a lot of players on the eagles super bowl team that were on the team prior to chip kelly ie mychal kendricks, brandon graham, nigel bradham, fletcher cox, vinny curry etc. The gm’s stamp was already on the team. If you think the 2 year hiatus of kelly totally dismantled what was already there, you are fooling yourself. There are no quick turnarounds. Oh and adding players like malcolm butler, beau allen, zack ertz, during the kelly era most definitely helped the cause this past season

  34. Jjones Says:

    @Buddy…if a staffers opinion that you claim to know was taken so seriously then why aren’t the players calling for Koetter and Lichts heads and why haven’t the Glaziers fired them? If the players don’t like the coach you will damn well know and if the Glaziers thought the HC and GM were not liked then why in the hell waste your time with them? It makes zero sense.
