  1. Scotty in Fat Antonio Says:

Need to see them on the field, not the training room.

  2. Kobe Faker Says:

“I put a A, Meathead is doing a nice job. We get Fitzpatrick and this years Kareem Hunt and we go to the NFC chamionship game”

    Kobe Faker

  3. Ed Kerber Says:

Justin gotta see the rest of the moves

  4. JGhoti86 Says:

Is Brentson Buckner not a piece of that equation/question? Also what Scotty in Fat Antonio said. It’s a C at the worst. I think a little higher when you add in type of guys, former pedigree from last season teams, emphasis on stopping run on 1st and 2nddownso you actually can rush the passer and age.

    Also Joe,
You have the best sight for Bucs and it’s not even close. Let me get that out of the way first before I say this. Your numbers article on Vinny Curry was complete garbage. 1)you are very much starting to sound like a bitter ex and 2) for someone who hates the numbers and PFF stuff and twisting said numbers to your benefit, you totally did that to bend the comparison in your favor for Ayers. First you say last year that Ayers missed 4 games and still had the same stats as Curry who played in all 16 regular season games. Well actually Ayers had about 10-15 more defensive snaps last year than Curry and fewer hurries, pressures, sacks and QB hits. Way to spend that one. Then you bring up Curry in 16 when he never really started (and never did once from 2012-15) so you could say his stats were worse than Ayers (Ayers best year with us) and left it at that. Well not just 2 years before that Curry had 9 which is about the exact same as Ayers best season to date and very close to that magical 10 you always talk about having to have. Did the eagles last year or the Patriots ALL of the years they won the Super Bowl have a 10 sack guy? Just asking. And alas, you can never just go by or off of numbers because how were they used, what were they asked to do, where did they line up, defensive scheme and fronts, distance and downs played on, situational aspects of football. Common Joe. You left out important numbers on both sides and since you used numbers as your argument, that was unfair and unjust and you were hypocritical because you tried to use them to your advantage to sway the mass andfor your opinion and argument. Bad article. The first part of it especially about Ayers having the same stats besides missing 4 games to Curry missing none. Well Ayers had more snaps and less stats and was injured 4 games which is worse and proves the next point. Curry is younger and healthier and less tread over the years and has played far less defensive snaps over his career and is great against the run too….oh and healthier. Also he’s not making $9 million a year or $3 million more than Ayers. He’s making just less than $8 million a year which is not even $2 million more than Ayers in an inflated market for a younger healthier DE who had better stats in less snaps and won a super bowl last year at a younger age. If he makes $9 million a year, its because we needed him, he played well and our team had more success. I’ll take that any day. Again, that was a bad article Joe and you sounded bitter, hypocritical

  5. Conte Piscatelli Says:

After last year, the only F would be doing nothing. I’d give a C if we just cut everybody and didn’t sign anyone.

  6. IsrBuc Says:

They should have cleaned house by trading mccoy and lvd in attempt to be competitive in 2019/2020. Instead they overpayed subs. brought in eagles scraps instead of bringning what the eagles got instead- bennet and ngata.
This stupid notion of “upgrade” reflect on the low standards of this team and fanbase. There is an upgrade and there is an upgrade. why sattle on overpaying of minimal upgrade when you could have tried to sign what the eagles signed befor they cut your “upgrade”?

  7. MarineBucsFan Says:

I gave B. Simply because I think Curry is an upgrade to Ayers due to his age and upside. But mainly due to the fact that it looks like we are finally forming a defensive identity. Big and Beefy up front, we may become a run stuffing team. Add Bradley Chubb or Vita Vea and we could be the bullies on the block.

  8. MarineBucsFan Says:

We need to add a tough safety too though.

  9. Teacherman777 Says:

    These are rock solid moves.

Three hard-nosed fighters. They will also help GMC a ton! So his last 2-4 years can be more focused on rushing the QB. Our DT rotation is now straight nasty!

    We are building a bully.

    Schiano would like it.

  10. IsrBuc Says:

the same thing i have been saying about licht the draft guru: if you are picking 7th and there are 15 top talents, its not that hard to hit a good player. the question should always be who could you have gotten instead. that should be the measurement.
you don’t need to be a good gm to draft oj howard at 19. justin evans may be a good player but it doesnt mean it is a good pick if players that were drafted after him had much more impact. people’s standards are so low

  11. IsrBuc Says:

    @MarineBucsFan
why is this a reason to give it a b? did they do close to the best they can? why does an “upgrade” mean they have done well? what if the could have made a much bigger upgrade instead? does it still mean that the small upgrade issuch a good move? all teams are upgrading. minor upgrades are going backwards sometimes. The eagles, with less cap space got two DL instead of the subs we got from them. did they upgrade? if so, why didn’t we go bigger and sign bennet and nagta?

  12. Eric Says:

When you have been sucking hind tit for as long as we have moving up is hard to perceive.

I’m open to idea that these moves are smart and we can play a lot better this year, until proven otherwise. I don’t see any quitters or phone it in types in the new group.

After all most were convinced we had turned the corner and would play well last year. Opposite may happen this year. Draft great and let’s se what happens.

  13. Doitbucs Says:

I think it is great. I believe getting better run stoppers is a great thing. If we stop the run the sacks should go up. Last year most teams had 2-4 yards to get on 3rd downs. That gives the other teams quick passes. Does not give them time to get to the QB plus they need to still beware of the run. Stop the run making the other teams have 3rd and 5-8 yards. Gives the defense more time to get to the QB and not have to look for a run as much. They can go full out rush the QB. Stop the run longer 3rd downs more QB going down. Better Defence.

  14. SCBucsFan Says:

I think it’s clear to say Joe does not see the value in Curry. That’s ok, everyone has an opinion. As it’s their blog we will be hearing that opinion.

  15. SCBucsFan Says:

Cards hosting Gaines for a visit

  16. LakeLand Says:

    I give them a big fat F

They added a bunch of run-stuffers in a pass-happy league
They still haven’t improved the worst pass defense in the NFL
Same coaches, and I’m not sold on the new players

  17. Joeypoppems Says:

I gave it a C. The best move on the D-line was cutting Baker.

  18. TeddyTB Says:

I think we all thought the offense would play better last year and they kinda did but the defense was hardly improved upon. I gotta feeling that y’all are getting excited about a player just because they are new. Baker was not the answer last year and everybody knew Campbell or Poe would’ve been better options. The bucs problem has not been spending too much in FA but spending it on the wrong guys. It’s not over spending if the guy is proven, Licht is out here making gambles on lesser talent

  19. ATrain Says:

This is a Shell Game to sucker the fans

  20. mog2010 Says:

Pleased so far, still think we are gonna reach for Davenport. Allen’ s presser impressed me, sounded grounded n motivated.

  21. Clw JB Says:

Look for them to draft at DT and DE to bolster the vets they picked up, it’s the GMs normal MO

That’s why I think we will see another couple vets come in at CB,S next

Adding Jensen, 3 DL, RE-upping our major pieces

If we can add a Claiborne or Gaines and maybe Boston at SS, we are in a position to draft BPA or trade down from 7

I’d be very happy to move down and end up with the G from UTEP and Guice/Michel – go Landry/BC at DE in the 3rd – why not load up at RB with both style runners and Barber

The slow start to FA is not looking so bad IMO

  22. SCBucsFan Says:

    Claiborne signed

  23. The Buc Realist Says:

Let me say this!! Shame on Joe, the media and the so-called fans that could not wait the 3 days for the Bucs to make the moves that we all knew would happen!!!!!! In so backwards is the thinking is that they are still mad, because they want the over-priced big names in free-agency, but in the draft, where you actually get the stars of the NFL, they want to trade down for a bunch of lower picks??????

NFL GM Licht, just set the board for the Bucs draft!!!!!!

    Go Bucs!!!!!!!!

  24. LakeLand Says:

The Eagles sign DT Haloti Ngata to a one year $3 million contract. And they will pay DE Michael Bennett $ 6,665,000 this season. That’s less than $10 million for 2 quality starters on your DL. The Bucs will pay DT Beau Allen, DT Mitch Unrien, DE Vinny Curry $17 million this season. The same guys the Eagles shipped out for Ngata and Bennett.

  25. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    C.

    For the whole off season.

But D since the start of free agency.

They severely overpaid for Jensen. One year wonder and injuries.

Currey was a rushed signing after his release. I said the same thing about Ward last year. I warned that it was a bad signing then…and I would like Currey as depth and rotation, but not for the price they paid.

And the waaaay overpaid for a kicker who is only slightly better than Murray, but with a lower ceiling.

  26. The Buc Realist Says:

    @Lakeland Buc

And when the Bucs draft Mount Vea, I will take the Bucs line this year over phlly and it would not even be a question in 2019 which line every one will choose!!!!!!!

    GO Bucs!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  27. MarineBucsFan Says:

    @ISRBUC,

Good point. My response would be that although I was initially upset with the non moves early on I realized that the first wave got grossly over paid. I also realized I was most upset by them not getting Quinn. Which I think drives most of our anger in general. That was the biggest miss, it rivals not signing Calais Campbell last year. Quinn and Campbell’s success is going to drive us all crazy For the next 3 years.

  28. The Graham Tram Says:

A- easy. They got rid of swaggy and got younger/stronger

Add an athletic DE, say some prayers for Spence, and maybe we have something.

  29. Nater Says:

    Everything JGhoti86 says.

  30. MarineBucsFan Says:

I still say B though. Pass happy league yes. But even the pass heavy teams need the ability to run the ball. Especially late in the year when it matters most, think cold weather and high winds.

Most of all, I’m just glad we finally see some what of a plan being put in place and I Like it. Big and Nasty up front. And here is the thing, just because we are huge in the middle doesn’t mean we won’t have a pass rush. We have some guys on the ends who are fast Plus MCCoy and Curry can do both.

    I’m optimistic bro!!! Lol

  31. LakeLand Says:

If this was the year of 1905

The year before the arrival of the ” Forward Pass”

I would give them an A+

  32. Chris@Apple Roof Cleaning Tampa Says:

I am a Walter Football Disciple, so I am not crazy about Cam Brate contract.
But I gave an A- to these latest D Line moves.

  33. The Buc Realist Says:

I love that lakeland buc does not get it!!!!!!!!!!!! The Bucs face in NFC South so of the better running teams in the league
    #4 overall Panthers
    $5 overall Saints
    #13 overall Falcons
    27 overall Bucs
And you don’t know why the Bucs need to be better against the run?????? LOL!!!! We don’t blame you lakeland Buc, we blame the polk county school system!!!!!!!

    Just FYI for passing

    #4 Bucs
    #5 Saints
    #8 Atlanta
    #28 panters

I will say that the Bucs face a “running” division!!!!!!!

    GO Bucs!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  34. ATrain Says:

Hey Realist what about the other 10 games

Also Brees and Matty Ice can’t beat u in the Air

Hahah Holy Crap the Bucs could burn your house down and you would thank them

GMC is a great Leader Too
    Hahah

  35. ATrain Says:

The Bucs made better moves than Eagles

    Hahah

    The Super Bowl champs

The team that changed over in a couple of years

They pick up OLD players and we take their leftovers
But we are the Smart ones

  36. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Okay…I wish I could change my vote.

I just graded every signing from start to finish (outside of reserve/futures contracts) and averaged them out. Came out to a B.

That surprised me. I was objective though, so I gotta support it.

  37. Jjones Says:

@Buc Realist..what moves are you talking about specifically that WE all knew were going to happen? No one knew a damn thing that’s why everyone was pissed off. Or we’d see Quinn or Norwell get swooped up and that would set us off. There was no insider info floating around on who we were ABSOLUTELY gunning after just rumors, and the rumors were shady at that. We all have the right to be pretty pissed off about what has and what has not happened, we’re fans after all.

  38. Architek Says:

I’m really growing sick of the Buc Realist self-righteous posts. I’ve been here since Joe started this site and this guy has progressively gotten worse.

I don’t care how positive you claim to be and how fake your posts are, you can’t hide the record and track record of arguably the worse football team in the NFL.

So spin it all you want and act like you’re mr positive – your fakeness comes out throughout the season when real beaten down fans get tired of losing. I respect some around here like DB55 and Hawaiian and a few other of us long timers but man you’re arguably the fakest of everyone.

  39. The Buc Realist Says:

    @Architek

so panicking and wanting to burn everything down at the start of free-agency is a “Real” fan??????? LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!

At least you almost made it 24hrs before throwing in the towel!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    GO Bucs!!!!!!

    Its the Architek repost!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    Architek Says:

I feel for most of you guys that still have hope in this clown show. You’re about to endure another regime change, another losing season and further solidify why FAs don’t want to come here.

These guys aren’t blue chip players and $$$ players, they’re going for the market rate. They’re telling the Bucs they don’t believe in the image they tried to portray and the team is weak as a whole.

Says a lot about the so called leaders too. Players know but they won’t break the code and say it. Tampa Browns is not a place desired by valuable players.

  40. LakeLand Says:

    The Bucs in Free Agency,

    2 Defensive Tackles
    1 Defensive End
    1 G/C
    1 Place Kicker

The players have 21 years of NFL experience, yet they only have 73 NFL starts
The Bucs basically signed 4 career backups and a PK

    This suppose to move someone?
    Not likely

  41. D-Rome Says:

Voted B. It’s an upgrade. I am hoping this time around the Bucs managed to find a diamond in the ruff like other teams seem to do.

  42. Wesley Says:

A solid c-, I actually would have kept McDonald for depth.

  43. Architek Says:

    Realist –
No a real fan is expressing true disappointment and support and I have literally stated in all my posts that my empathy’s are offered to the fans.

People bash Bucs fans for always complaining but in a vacuum the Bucs fans have been through a lot and have been solid through a decade of losing.

You in particular feel that you offer a ultra “positive” perspective that it makes you more informed or insightful but your insight or hope has translated to what???

You want to say that I want to burn down the organization – well let’s see; I’m not burning down the team, the inept GM is. And Koetter and their scouting staff is. Only in Tampa can you go 5-6 years and can’t debrlop a pass rush. Only in Tampa can you have the same holes on your roster for consecutive years and still have a job.

You mean to tell me that Licht and Koetter has earned your explicit trust???

I think your posts as I stated are more about you than the team. X and Os, personnel, and culture are ranked at the bottom of the league and the record supports that fact not blind optimism.

  44. The Buc Realist Says:

    @Architek

I think you, joe and some of the so called “fans” need to compartmentalize the differences of the whole franchise’s history and the current regime!!!!!!!!! 1 good year and 1 bad year and most are ready with pitch forks and torches!!!!!!

I think some are more informed as we knew and tried to tell you for years how bad the roster was from talk show dominik and loser lovie!!!!!!!! now the roster is growing in talent and depth that it has not had since the Gruden days!!!!!!!

Maybe get thru free agency and the draft before going into full panic mode!!!!! Or just go all in and partner with Joe and start Joebucpanic.com and you can hand out hard hats at the draft party because the sky is fallng!!!!!! LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The Smoke screen is so thick that the sheep can’t see what is in front of them!!!!!!!!!!

    Go Bucs!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  45. Jjones Says:

End of the day we need personell that are competent. Hope for the best expect the worst and don’t buy into the hype. Jason has been here thru the Lovie failed experiment and now Koetter who’s been HC for 2 years, you’d think we’d figure those intangibles but as fans we want results immediately. Koetter in my opinion was not HC material and still isn’t but the Winston connection kept him in the fold. Bucs FO seems to be the great equalizer honestly and they’re making everyone pay for their BS. Said it b4 and I’ll say it again, we need a Tom Coughlin type exec to be guru for the FO because THEY have screwed us all….they’re not football minded individuals.

Jason has made some suspect signings but I don’t know a GM or team that hasn’t. Trying to develop personell and players at the same time is not working.

  46. ATrain Says:

    Good post Arch

Realist I didn’t get an answer on my question for you

Do you think Brees and Ryan can’t beat you through the air

Run stoppers will not stop Brees even if you click your heels together

  47. Jjones Says:

Glaziers got lucky with Dungy and Gruden and they’ve been trying to capture lightning in a bottle ever since. Glaziers I’ll admit have been more successful during their run but that doesn’t mean they know what they’re doing necessarily. Morris, Schiano then Lovie, I mean wth!? The Koetter days of playing it safe and playing the percentages are probably done too. So what’s the fix? I’m more worried about who our coach and GM will be in 2019 lately and that’s scary because there isn’t much out there now. Maybe we can pull Scott Frost away from Nebraska..I’ll keep dreaming.

  48. Lennis Neal Says:

I have them a C rating. The only move I like is the offensive line signing off Jensen, and we still need more offensive line help. I wish they would’ve cut Conte. We desperately need Safety help

  49. Sierra119 Says:

All of you complaining about the GM not doing enough have to get a serious grip on reality. You seem to think Light didn’t do enough to get some of the premier players in the first wave. And you know this how ? A LOT of things have to go right for a trade to be completed. Just wanting a player is not enough by any means.

If you don’t think the defensive line is better now than last year, you are not on planet reality, and you just want to whine and complain. There is no hope for fans like you. When this team makes the playoffs this season, you’ll still find something to cry about. Oh, and Hillary still lost !

  50. LakeLand Says:

There’s nothing wrong with building the trenches. I have been preaching this for years. But I meant building the trenches with quality players from the draft. Not with career backups that other teams cut loose.

  51. simeon Says:

every year we get some flashy names that played well, come here to cash their check and then a year or two later they are gone cause they stink. I’m not going to be bullish on our adds until they show they aren’t just about their payday. Build through the draft and get value free agents, something we haven’t been able to do.
