Culture Overhaul Welcomed

March 18th, 2018

Clinton McDonald

There’s nothing like a well-earned housecleaning.

Joe sure is enjoying the fresh smell of Mr. Clean this morning.

The NFL is a business, and the Buccaneers defensive line last season was old by NFL standards, and they were absolutely horrific on the field.

That’s the cold reality and it wasn’t bad luck.

Good for Jason Licht getting out the power vacuum and sucking three key cogs out of the mix: Robert Ayers, Clinton McDonald and Chris Baker. It had to be done.

Nobody around town is doing cartwheels over the signings of versatile defensive ends Vinny Curry and Mitch Unrein, as well as run-stuffer nose tackle Beau Allen. But this is a very welcome shot in the arm to Joe. The stable is younger and they’re a group not infected by the losing culture of the post-Chucky Buccaneers.

McDonald was a warrior when he was healthy and he had 20 percent of the Bucs’ sacks last year. But you know what? The Bucs can lose without him. McDonald in his four years here didn’t change the culture with the magic dust he brought from the Seahawks. He and Ayers love the game but their time was up, especially on a team that won’t be playing for a Super Bowl in 2018.

Baker? Well, shame on Jason Licht and Dirk Koetter for not realizing the guy was a terrible fit for this team. Baker was a typical of case of we-have-to-play-him-because-we’re-paying-him, a true loser approach.

With new defensive line coach Brentson Buckner, and three new and serious veterans, the Bucs’ D-line — their weakest 2017 unit — should be a lot better.

Maybe that’s going from crap to a little below average. But Joe will take that and love it.

    This is all good,

Except they still have the same worthless coaching staff

  2. AlteredEgo Says:

It has been the talent not coaching

  3. El_Buc941 Says:

Dayum Joe are you doing follow up stories on my comments from previous posts?exactly what I said last post!Kudos Joe!!!out with the old,in with the new,it can’t be any worse than what it was last year right?the only difference is the GM can say at least he took out the trash and throw the HC under the bus.lol

  4. Rob F Says:

Except that they don’t have the same coaching staff, not as it pertains to the defensive line anyway, which is what we’re talking about.

  5. tmaxcon Says:

Until cancer93 is gone none of the moves matter. Weeding out soldiers of the LOSING culture while leaving the leader of losing culture in place is asinine and will result in another year in basement. Until the core issue is resolved the eradication of cancer93 there is ZERO hope.

  6. LakeLand Says:

Mike Bajakian has been Jameis Winston QB coach for three seasons. And Winston look worse now than he did as a rookie.

John Hoke has been the secondary coach for two seasons. And both seasons the secondary has given up over 4000 passing yards.

Timmy Spencer has done nothing as RB coach during the past two seasons.

George Warhop hasn’t done much to develop Donovan Smith, Caleb Benenoch etc

And we all know the Dirk Koetter, Mike Smith story

  7. BetterBuccinBelieveIt Says:

    @ElBuc41….

🙂 🙂 im afraid its been that way for a bit now for quite a few of us, but I hear ya brother!

    Go Bucs!

  8. Easy Says:

    Never change tmaxcon!!

  9. tmaxcon Says:

    Easy

No reason to change when cancer93 is the primary reason bucs have no hope.

  10. Blake_Bucsfan Says:

Not that I don’t agree with the main sentiment of this article. But I wouldn’t rule out us bringing McDonald back.

I mean he did get 5.5 sacks last year in a limited role.

  11. SCBucsFan Says:

Still praying, especially on a Sunday, for you TMax that you shed some of that hate that infects you

  12. LakeLand Says:

    Do like the Atlanta Falcons

Weed out the Bum players and the Bum coaches

  13. Mike Johnson Says:

The Bucs have added a few new pieces and will add more with the draft. Lets see what the excuses will be this season. If they cannot win this year, then you Bucs fans will definitely know it is the coaching.

  14. bigblock690 Says:

Mitch Unrein is will be 31 when the season begins Vinny Curry will 30 years old. To say the Bucs got younger is kind of misleading Beau Allen is definitely younger but the other two are just one or 2 years younger than the guys they are replacing. I could understand if all three came in at Beau Allen’s age who will not be 30 for another 3 years. We will have to wait and see what the season brings, if the Bucs castoffs go out and play significantly better and this new group comes in and fails I believe Mike Smith should be fired before the season is over.

  15. Dooshlarue Says:

I still think there is a decent chance GMC gets traded to improve our draft position to snag Chubb.
That would make the house nice and fresh!

  16. NFLNut Says:

    LAKELAND,

Winston sets career bests in basically every statistical category this past season … come on man, you know better than to make insane statements like “Winston look worse now than he did as a rookie” … it’s not like he threw more INTs than TDs and had a horrifying bad passer rating in the 70s like Mariota … Jameis sets career bests in almost EVERYTHING and in his healthy games he was basically a top 3 QB with Brady and Wentz … literally.

  17. darin Says:

I welcome it too. The staff are the ones supposed to instill the culture. These guys leave it up to the players.
    Altered
Its the talent not the coaching? If you believe in your head coach then why are you contradicting him? He has said they had plenty of talent. He has said the coaches underperformed. Its no secret now. This league has a system in place where every team has the same amount of “talent”. As a matter of fact the pats and some of the better teams have far less higher picked players than the bad teams. The good teams have good owners, gms, scouting depts, and coaching staffs. Good teams find the other teams weakness and attack it. Good teams rely on their own strength. They dont continually throw deep when they cant hit one. They dont keep playing a rb who cant run. They dont sit back in a cover 2 zone and watch teams play catch. I could go on all day.

  18. tmaxcon Says:

    SC

How many times do I have to tell you it’s not hate when its reality… Thanks for prayers the man through me a solid on post st Patrick’s day hangover… ready to go again today.

  19. NFLNut Says:

    ********************

I now absolutely believe it’s obvious the Jets would TRIED to trade up to #2 with the Giants before settling on the deal with the Colts for the #3 pick … and their offer easily provided more than enough draft capital to get the #2 pick UNLESS the Giants plan to go QB. What I mean is … the package they gave the Colts is worth way more than ONLY Saquon or Quenton, yet the Giants weren’t having it. Why? Because the Giants have been fibbing to everyone and are absolutely planning to draft a QB and had no intentions of moving out of that #2 spot … this seems very, very likely … either that or the Giants new GM (the guy who gave Nate Solder a ludicrous $62m) is a loon.

That said … here is my revised mock:

    BROWNS: SAM DARNOLD
    GIANTS: JOSH ROSEN
JETS: JOSH ALLEN (word is they are much higher on Allen than Mayfield)
BILLS (will make an offer the Browns can’t refuse imo): BAKER MAYFIELD
    BRONCOS: QUENTON NELSON
COLTS: BRADLEY CHUBB … OR … SAQUON BARKLEY
BUCCANEERS: WHOEVER THE COLTS DON’T TAKE … CHUBB OR SAQUON!

    ***************

  20. tmaxcon Says:

    Dooshlarue

That would be the only hope these young players have.

Having the cancer93 removed is only true hope

  21. Alaskabuc Says:

    Second what tmax said

  22. Dooshlarue Says:

    NFLNUT

JW’s stats keep improving but when I watch him play I’m not seeing anything great.
I know that shouldn’t be the case but it is.
    …….and the fumbles man.
I notice you seem to leave that stat out.

  23. Eric Says:

I love it. I love that we are going to get tougher on both our lines. We needed more alpha s on this team. Allen, Curry and Unrein do nothing but fight and work hard each and every play. And this new center, Ryan Jensen, this guy wanted to kill the whole Miami defense last year when Alonzo hit Joe Flacco late. Need more guy like that.

  24. Tampabaybucfan Says:

Well….guys….sooner or later GMC will be gone….probably later.

It puzzles me that if it’s so clear that you are right about him….why on earth is he still here?…..According to you we would have been in the playoffs a couple of times and Lovie would still be here.

  25. Bucnjim Says:

Wish I could remember who always posts build the trenches because that is exactly what they’re doing. It is always best to build both from the inside out. We are now set at center and guard as well as D tackle. Now let’s finish with a couple D ends and at least one offensive R tackle.

  26. nox Says:

Channing Ward and his versatility will blossom under Buckner. Its like Hayes was hiding him for some reason.

  27. Nater Says:

Atta pepper Joe. Shedding that negativity, rallying the troops. I like it. Realize we are watching the beginning of a larger plan. Buckner was the first peice. We changed out a few more worn out and tired pieces in FA. Licht will find a few more in the draft including corner and safety. Remember no one has time to get to the QB with Smith and Hargraves playing 10 yards off of a WR. Hopefully we can land Gaines here in the next couple of days.

  28. NFLNut Says:

    Dooshlarue,

I don’t leave fumbles out … I don’t care about them and they don’t concern me at as (a) fumbles are a product of the O-Line, (b) many of them this year were on Marpet but get credited to Winston and (c) Jameis has NEVER had a problem with fumbles in is life until the year he jacked his throwing shoulder … it’s a non-issue.

Also, you may want to get your eyes checked if you don’t see improvement when watching Jameis … go back and watch the MNF v Atlanta … Jameis was basically PERFECT … THAT game was as good a game as any QB has played in the last 3 years. JW was 27-28 on all throws that weren’t dropped and clock-spiked and he was NOT dinking and dunking or game managing like a Dak or Alex Smith; he was throwing lasers all over the field … there are other QBs who can play like that if they’re in the zone, but not many … Rodgers, Roethlisberger, Brady, Brees, a healthy Luck and Stafford but that’s about it.

  29. The Buc Realist Says:

What is even better is that it could have put the “status whine” campaign to bed!!!!!!!

    Go Bucs!!!!!!!!!!

  30. Bucnjim Says:

Another thing the D tackles give us is better rotation. You might like GMC on passing downs but he gets thrown around on running plays. It is NOT double team either! Good guards and centers are having their way with him.

  31. NFLNut Says:

As for GMC … I really could see him getting traded on draft night … I’d say there’s a solid 30% chance or so. Any team going hard after Suh that misses out could be in the GMC hunt, and ultimately I think the Raiders, Seahawks, Cowboys, Browns, Titans (just cut Hankins one year after signing him to a 3 year monster deal) and a couple others could offer a 2nd rounder or maybe a 3rd and 5th for him … and the Bucs should consider such an offer!

  32. Not there yet Says:

These 3 guys don’t represent an overhaul or much of an upgrade unless pressures or run stopping is going to make up for sack production in your mind because they are new to us. None of them are known for sacks and McDonald was a great presence in the locker room. Not fair to say anything about him not changing the culture of anyone if you don’t mention McCoy has enjoyed losing for a decade

If McCoy wasn’t given help them neither was McDonald. This double standard for McCoy the supposed leader of the defense is disgusting

  33. LakeLand Says:

    Jameis Winston hasn’t improved

The quality of his receiving corps has improve
As a rookie he had,ME, Lewis Murphy, Russell Shepard, injured VJAX,
    The rookies Donteea Dye, Hump,

In 2017 he had, ME, VJAX, Hump (with experience), Chris Godwin
Cam Brate ( with experience), O.J Howard

  34. LakeLand Says:

    Not VJAX…DJAX instead

  35. LakeLand Says:

    NFLNut,

    Jameis Winston has talent

But he needs quality NFL coaching

    That’s a fact

  36. John meeks Says:

GMC #93 isn’t going anywhere, the bucs have waited to long to trade him and couldn’t get anything above a 3rd round pick.he is over 30 years of age!throw in his huge contract numbers and it just made it almost impossible!if McCoy was 27 years of age then it could happen. That’s just not the case,so you guys can stop dreaming now and look at reality!sorry tmax but #93 will be here until his contract is up.lol,go get yourself a 12 pack of beer cause I know you hate to hear that 😂

  37. NFLNut Says:

    LAKELAND,

I disagree with your first recent post, though I will say that he never needed to “improve” to be a SB-winning QB … he could have won a SB with the Broncos team that won with Manning, when he was a 19 year old. Jameis was already better than many NFL QBs who have won SBs at the age of 19.

The same can be said for Stafford and many other insanely talented QBs … it’s all about TEAMS when it comes to winning … OBVIOUSLY Stafford, Jameis, Philip Rivers, etc., could have won a SB last year on the Eagles with Foles doing it … but those 3 gunslingers all may end up in the HOF without a single ring between them, ala Fouts, Marino and Moon … TEAMS win games not QBs …

HOWEVER, I agree with your second recent post, as if Jameis ever reaches his FULL POTENTIAL remains to be seen and I agree that better coaching could help that happen sooner rather than later …

  38. upthegut Says:

Joe – can you please put up a pole to find out if anyone actually reads
    tmaxcon’s posts?

  39. Lamarcus Says:

    Joe

GMC is the biggest loser of the group. Remains. The five sub par players we got surely will decline and they are not a 100 million group.

  40. LUVMYBUCS Says:

    Rotation, Rotation, Rotation !!!

    Sign
    • Bennie Logan (28)
    • Kony Ealy (27)

    Potential Depth Chart
RDE Vinny Curry | Kony Ealy | Noah Spence
RDT Gerald McCoy | Will Clarke
LDT Bennie Logan | Beau Allen
LDE William Gholson | Mitch Unrein

    Honorable Mention: Willie Young

Quality Depth – Keeps guys fresh for the long haul.

  41. Doug p Says:

Trade 93!! We need more picks.

  42. tmaxcon Says:

    upthegut

Truth hurts team won’t turn around until cancer93 is spayed or removed from roster… clearly you must read my posts if it irritated you enough to request a poll… keep supporting soft career losers with no desire to be great and I’ll keep pimping for a winner.

  43. gotbbucs Says:

    Strength in numbers…
Add as many different skill sets as you can to the defensive line. McCoy needs to play about half the downs that he normally has been. He needs to be more of a nickel rusher at this point.

Use the 3rd through 5th round to bring in pass rush specialists.

  44. Tony from Los Angeles Says:

    Joe!

There’s too much “finality” in your tone regarding the D-line. All the Bucs have done so far is just enough to repeat their mistakes from the past 10-15 years in the D line.

Remember the phrase “training camp battle”. Not the lame one where the 5th round pick and third tier free agent battle for the nickel spot. I’m talking about the real deal battles where two starter level players battle for one spot.

You know what you NEVER hear about Buc backups? “That Guy is good enough to be starting in most teams”.

That’s the problem. Depth. Competition. Battles.
    They are all missing.

The Bucs still need at least 2-3 more DE’s to come in and BATTLE. Guys that could really push the incumbents and new signings for playing time. Imagine having a 4-5 guy rotation that stayed fresh at DE where each guy actually brought pressure.

    Keep going, Licht.

You’re only about halfway there in my eyes.

KEEP FIXING THE TRENCGES, AND YOU’LL FIX THE BUCS!!

  45. I Bleed Pewter and Red Says:

I hoped the Bucs extended an invitation for Suh to come in. He’s still out there and he would be a huge upgrade to McDonald’s vacated spot.

  46. William Berry Says:

I’m starting to think that some of you guys would rather be right and lose than be wrong and win.

  47. Lamarcus Says:

Culture overhaul and GMC still on the team doesn’t sound right

  48. StPeteBucsFan Says:

All three of our new DL signees are highly respected as run stuffers. In fact two of them are ranked as the top two in the league run stuffers and the third has a good reputation…if we keep Gholston this line SHOULD be the premiere run stuffing unit in the league!

We all know we desperately need pass rushing and in particular rushing off the edge. But sometimes the fact we suck so badly at rushing the passer it makes us overlook some of our other weaknesses.

Right behind giving up the booty to opposing NFL QB’s I’ve been cheesed about how other Offenses are able to just gash us with their running games. Sometimes running against the Bucs looks really easy. Seems like the new guys may help at least cut down on that embarrassment…teams just lining up and running it down our throats.

  49. BUCKMAN Says:

YOU NEVER GOT ALL OF THE CANCER 93 WILL MAKE IT SPREAD ALL OVER AGAIN , HE IS THE RING LEADER TO IT ALL,,

  50. ATrain Says:

    TMAX is CORRECT

Doing the same thing over and over a again expecting a different outcome is the definition of insanity

We cleaned out the bench players
Replaced them with New bench players

Hey why not try to get a starter
Maybe look at what the winning teams are doing

  51. Tony from Los Angeles Says:

So tired of being an active poster who reads every article and always have my comments in moderation for over an hour sometimes. For no reason. Is this a west coast bias thing?? Haha.

Originally from Tampa and always doing my part to point west coast Bucs fans towards this site.

No sense in being active and staying on the site if this will always be the case. In case this is the last post for me…

FIX THE TRENCHES, FIX THE BUCS!!

  52. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

I’ll miss Robert Ayers (8.5 sacks in 2 years) and Clinton McDonald (8 sacks in 2 years) …not because of their stats, but because of their personalities.

Ayers was one of those vocal leaders, but just did not produce…but I firmly believe he helped change players attitudes in the locker room. Clinton was just solid.

  53. tmaxcon Says:

    8 years losing with her

Failed regime after failed regime with her

Free agents regress and draft picks crumble with her

Franchise record number of blowouts with her

Blown lead after blown lead with her

Flat performance after flat performance with her

8 years of excuses and free passes for the most overrated and worst team captain in franchise history

It’s enough of the selfish me first camera hound and his SOFT approach. Eradicate the disease and these young players have hope.

  54. tmaxcon Says:

All you have to defend her is meaningless pro bowls and a matt ryan ankle grab…

  55. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

    ATrain Says:
“Doing the same thing over and over a again expecting a different outcome is the definition of insanity…”

I have said the same thing many times…but…the truth is, that’s just not true. The definition of insane is:

A derangement of the mind; extreme foolishness; folly; senselessness; foolhardiness.

I’m correcting myself as much as you though, because I have said the same thing too many times to count. That…and I am in editing mode right now, so I’m nitpicking.

  56. Bobby M. Says:

We’ve been losing for a decade with McCoy……we can lose without him. Should have traded that dude from the beginning of this rebuild…..Next regime should get whatever they can for him and David because we are wasting their talents here.

  57. XpfcWintergreen2 Says:

I am copying verbatim something I posted elsewhere. We have a new Defensive Line Coach and three new players to help create a new culture. I think this is relevant to this discussion as well.

    ___________________
This is how I see the results of various Free Agency signings and off-season trades affecting Tampa Bay. If the draft were to be run today the following is a realistic possible outcome.

    1. Cleveland: Quarterback
    2. New York Giants: Quenton Nelson, Guard
    3. New York Jets: Quarterback
    4. Cleveland: Minkah Fitzpatrick, Cornerback/Safety
    5. Denver: Quarterback
    6. Indianapolis: Saquon Barkley, Running Back
    7. Tampa Bay: Bradley Chubb, Defensive End

The New York Giants choose to replace Justin Pugh and Indianapolis chooses to replace Frank Gore. Cleveland is the wild card here.

    It could happen!
    _______________
    Go Bucs!!!!

  58. tmaxcon Says:

Not one single meaningful win in his ENTIRE CAREER yet beloved by low standard buc fan… not a single fan base outside of Tampa would worship a career loser

  59. Kobe Faker Says:

Didnt the Bucsheep see the games last year!

The greatest dline will not be effective with ryan griffen smith playing 10 yards behind the LOS and exposed on the outside!

The ball will be out in less than 2 seconds and journeymen QBs will be completing 70% short passes again

*Our weakness is RS In the outside….our DLine is good enough to win

  60. DB55 Says:

Robert Ayers, Clinton McDonald and Chris Baker. (Hayes) It had to be done.
    ———————–
If that’s not the definition of scape goats idk what is.

All these guys are statistically better than what licht brought in. Fact is they can get rid of as many players as they’d like the team will still suck as long as McIceCream don’t like getting hit and leaves his gap as soon as the ball is hiked.

All they did was make the line worse by signing a bunch of back-ups and overpaying a guy with a bum mcl.

  61. Big Daddy 58 Says:

    Tmaxcon,
You sound like a guy that was denied an autograph by 93.
The guy is double teamed nearly every play with no other help on the dline.
Dude, stop hating. Not every one is a Sapp! And he had help!

  62. tmaxcon Says:

    Big Excuses

Just more excuses for the career losers… doubled excuses is BS AND worn out

  63. BucEmUp Says:

    Scheme not players on dline

  64. tmaxcon Says:

    BucEmUp

There has been multiple regimes and systems its the players led by soft cancer93

  65. Rod Munch Says:

When your response to signing 3 guys is to talk about culture, not production, that is normally a bad sign. Mix that with Licht’s FA history and the word “busts” come to mind. Hope I’m wrong but I’m not a believer in the idea that three 3rd rate players is the same as signing one good one. This discount 3rd tier shopping is what Kicht does every year and it normally ends up poorly.

  66. Tampabaybucfan Says:

According to Tmax….doing the same thing over and over again and expecting a different result is the definition of insanity.

According to TBBF….saying the same thing over and over again and expecting a result of any kind fits the definition of insanity….

It’s sort of like the bearded derelict that stands on the street corner just talking up a storm to no one in particular.

  67. SOEbuc Says:

    “Rotation, rotation, rotation.”

Where was Noah Spence on your list? Pretty sure he’s gonna be in the rotation somewhere if he can stay healthy.

  68. Spicoli Says:

Tmax truth hurts these fragile fans.

  69. Jjones Says:

There’s never been anything wrong with GMC’s play in my opinoin. Hes the hardest working guy on defense year in and year out but if you hate him you can’t look at him objectively. I get that because there’s guys I can’t stand in this league but that doesn’t mean their crap. I wish GMC were way more vocal because he’s good no doubt about it, there’s no argument that supports him being a bad player. What he ISN’T though is a true leader and that’s frustrating enough to make people hate him and I understand that too. Bucs should have been successfully building around GMC and they didn’t, they brought in has beens and over hopefuls to work off of GMC and it did the opposite. I’ve never heard any players hate on GMC either, they’ve praised him. I’ll take the opinion of his peers over a fans anyday.

  70. ATrain Says:

Bonzai thank you I stand corrected
But that definition fits the thought of these FA moves. “ foolish”

AND BIG DADDY —— Please tell me another Star Dlineman that is not Double Teamed. You double team their best player.. So GMC is Good

But Sucks as a Leader. No Defense for that

And no never asked for his autograph My Man Card Prohibts It

  71. DB55 Says:

Anyone who supports these moves are either working for/with the Bucs or are career long buc fans who mindlessly approve every move this franchise makes.

Hey as long as the team is “thug” free you’re happy. Congrats!

    #ItTakesTime -4 years later- #BePatient – after 5 win season- #We’reAlmostThere

I’m positive most of you live on swamp land in FL and a couple others have beach-front property in North Dakota

  72. NFLNut Says:

    XpfcWintergreen2,

I have no problem with your mock and I also think we can get either Saquon or Chubb …

  73. LakeLand Says:

    DB55,

    I don’t get the logic,

The Bucs sign 4 players with a combine 73 career starts in the NFL. And everyone freak out like they have hit the jackpot.

And they keep the same pathetic coaching staff ( outside of the scapegoat)
What is there to get excited about?

  74. NFLNut Says:

^ You gonna freak out if we draft Bradley Chubb or Saquon? They have zero NFL starts … who cares how many NFL starts someone has? Jimmy G got the richest contract ever after like 6 career starts …

  75. NFLNut Says:

    ***********************

I see Mel Kiper has come our and agreed with what I said yesterday (I said the first 4 picks will be QBs as I expect the Browns to trade down with the Bills, or maybe the Cardinals or Dolphins jumping into that 4th spot) as he is now saying the first 3 picks will all be QBs.

Kiper bugs me … I prefer Mike Mayock, but I can’t fault him for his recent take … it just seems pretty obvious the Giants are fibbing to everyone and are planning to take a QB at #2.

    *************************

  76. LakeLand Says:

    NFLNut,

These guys have 21 years of NFL experience. But they only have 73 starts. There’s something wrong with this picture.

  77. Rod Munch Says:

Ayers had started 39 games in 7 years before he came to the Bucs.
Chris Baker had started 31 games in 8 years before coming to the Bucs.
McDonald had started 2 games in 4 years before coming to the Bucs

    See a pattern…

These new guys are not proven starters, they’re 3rd rate bargain bin players. The Bucs could have had Quinn, a 1st rate guy, for a lot less money and maybe a 3rd round pick and had DE locked up for at least the next 2 seasons. Instead they got guys and signed them to deals so they can cut them a year from now when it turns out that the 30-year old 4th string DE for the Bears isn’t actually a good player.

  78. NFLNut Says:

^ Lakeland … I know what you’re saying but less wear and tear on the body can be a good thing

RodMunch … I think we all wanted Quinn … but I really don’t think the Rams wanted him in the NFC

  79. Rod Munch Says:

NFLNut – I don’t buy the NFC thing at all, if they cared that much about the guy they wouldn’t have traded him. Also even if they did have a preference you then say fine, instead of a 4th and 6th we’ll give you a 3rd. I could see the Rams saying no to the Vikings in that situation, but to the Bucs? Not a chance as the Bucs aren’t a threat to them and the Bucs don’t play them this year. It was Licht trying to “get a deal” and being burned yet again. To me this offseason is a disaster thus far. The Bucs have spent a ton of cap space and have almost nothing to show for it. Yes, Jensen, who is considered the best at his position is a good signing, but all these 3rd rate defensive lineman likely won’t add up to much of anything. With that said the Bucs really can’t get worse, they were last in the league so even if they did nothing you’d expect from a purely statistical standpoint they’d improve, but even if the run defense is better you still don’t have an edge rusher and you still have Ryan Smith and Chris Conte playing. Yes they can address corner and safety in the draft, but risking your season on who falls on the draft board is a very risky thing to do.

Hilarious. I agree with the posters here. Season is lost. We trade mccoy and we win instantly. Except for our horrible owners and coaching staff and other players. We deserve more. I’m not gonna watch or renew my tickets. Last straw was mccoy is still on the team. Totally digusted. Glad I’m not alone in my opinion and don’t care how whiney ir makes me look…its my right. Funny. On a less reactive, more thoughtful note, the moves to date (more than 27 other teams) seem to make us better. Still need a DE and help on the defensive backfield, IMO. Would anticipate another FA move then some good focused selections in the draft (DE or DB), RB, DT, OL (hopefully in that order). But then again, why bother…team sucks. Did I mention we deserve bett? Go Bucs

Everything sounded good before that though lol

  85. TeddyTB Says:

Why y’all not listening to Rod Munch bro just layed it all out for you. The super bowl champs just upgraded from these backups who aren’t young and y’all think Jason Licht of all people just spotted some undiscovered gems LMAO.

  86. NFLNut Says:

    RodMunch,

You’re saying you’d rather have Robert Quinn than Vinny Curry AND Mitch Unrein AND a 3rd round pick that could be our new RB in Rashaad Penny or our new #2 CB in Anthony Avertt or a talented DT to replace GMC in Derrick Nnandi, etc … and I think it’s clear Jason Licht doesn’t agree with you.

I personally am not saying you’re wrong as I would have loved to see Quinn in Tampa next year but Licht basically chose a starting DE, starting DT and a 3rd round pick over Quinn … time will tell if he made a smart or stupid decision.

  87. Rod Munch Says:

NFLNut – Yes, I’d rather have Quinn and $4m in cap space to sign a back or to put towards a corner than a bunch of scrubs who provide no production and a 3rd rounder. I don’t see how this possible solves any issue – these aren’t young guys with a ton of potential, these are proven vets with a track record of mediocrity. One star is better than three 3rd rate players, been saying that for years. Also I agree, Licht doesn’t agree with me on that, but thus far he has yet to prove his theory on getting “bargains” works.

If I’m wrong then fantastic, keep this post, bookmark this page and I’ll be more than happy to take the bashing if the Bucs are winning and these guys are producing, but based on Licht’s history I’m fairly confident in my opinion.

  88. LUVMYBUCS Says:

    @Wutda

Lol, hey brotha – I would trade’em in heart beat if we drafted Roquan.

Got LUV for Kwon (Potential) – but he’s very inconsistent in filling his run fits.
Plus he’s got way too damn missed tackles- on his resume.

Contract year – so of course he’ll put it all together.

  89. Rod Munch Says:

TeddyTB – I enjoy the back and forth here so I take no offense to those who have a different view and honestly I hope they’re right and I’m way off base – if the Bucs are winning then fantastic. But yeah, I don’t have the confidence that others do, we’ve just seen this happen with Licht too many times to think this time he found some vets who are suddenly going to become quality players after years of showing very little production.

  90. LUVMYBUCS Says:

Yeah we all LUV the squad – just expressing our POV.

Most of us here – have been here for years (vets).
So U can always check our JBF Résumés (archives). To see if we on our sh!t.

But don’t talk sh!t now – and disappear, or change your name.

Until cancer93 is gone none of the moves matter. Weeding out soldiers of the LOSING culture while leaving the leader of losing culture in place is asinine and will result in another year in basement. Until the core issue is resolved the eradication of cancer93 there is ZERO hope.
    ^^^^
These weak ass FAs don’t matter. To even think they are a solution is complete bullocks Joe/s.

I can’t wait for GMC’s 2nd down bull rush(non-existent on 3rd downs) that opens up the running lane all the offenses know how to exploit when game planning for the bucs. After the RB burst through the gaping hole GMC left for him, I love it when Kwon gets stonedwalled out of the gap (cause he’s always playing pass in his head, forgets how to shed a block) and they scamper for 10 yards a clip. Can’t wait for next season!!!

^^^What skill sets are those? Skill sets that set the Bucs D last in the league?
I have no idea why some asshat Bucs fans think we have a good LB corp. They are garbage people.
