Swaggy Sparked Locker Room Melee

December 26th, 2017

At center of Sunday fracas.

A published report details the genesis of the locker room hassle that broke out Sunday after the Bucs’ loss to the Stinking Panthers.

It seems, per Rick Stroud of the Tampa Bay Times, offsides-jumping, belly shirt-wearing, practice-hating, kicker-heckling, tree-grinding , non-contact-football-loving, chicken-wings-grilling, playing-time-squawking, TV-cooking-star Swaggy Baker sparked a near brawl in the locker room after smirking and not taking responsibility for ignoring Gerald McCoy’s orders and jumping offsides on a key fourth down in the game-winning drive of the Stinking Panthers.

And it was none other than America’s Quarterback, Pro Bowler Jameis Winston, who wanted to go after Swaggy.

During the incident, captured on the post-game radio show, linebacker Lavonte David is heard yelling to stop quarterback Jameis Winston from confronting Baker.

“Yo, yo, Jameis! Jameis! Jameis!” David shouts.

Then middle linebacker Kwon Alexander begins swearing at Baker. David left the interview to intervene.

No word if Jameis or Kwon were able to club Swaggy or not.

As Joe wrote Sunday night, get this guy the hell out of town. In March, Joe got word via JoeBucsFan.com columnist Ira Kaufman, who was tipped off by a high-ranking Redskins source, this Baker was trouble and boy or boy was Ira’s source dead-solid perfect.

Joe asks you, do you remember anything Swaggy has gone on the field as well as you remember how he fondled and tongued a palm tree in Jacksonville? Joe was not surprised one iota that Swaggy was the kindling of the hassle in the locker room, but Joe suspected if he was, it was because someone stole his prized possession being a framed picture of a palm tree.

This guy is as good as gone anyway after this season. The guaranteed portion of his contract expires after this season. Might just be a good idea to deactivate him for Sunday and tell him stay home where he can grill wings and watch the game like most everyone else: on TV.

Bravo Jameis.

Bravo Kwon.

Bravo to other Bucs involved.

The only thing that concerns Joe about this is the possibility that your franchise quarterback could have broken his throwing hand over a dendrophiliac.

  1. Bird Says:

That is a locker room cancer. Not GMC

  2. Bird Says:

Got paid and doesn’t care if team loses.

    Gives half effort

    Bye bye.

Licht missed big on that. Him or Calais ? Not even close

  3. D-Rome Says:

No surprise here. I think we all knew Chris Baker was an instigator or a big part of the reason there was a fight in the locker room. If Koetter wants to change the culture in the locker room and potentially save his job he should sit or suspend Baker. I really believe a message can be sent even with the last game of the year. It needs to happen.

  4. Waterboy Says:

    Calais Campbell – 16 mil a year/Swaggy – 6 mil a year/Poe – 11 mil a year. They didn’t quite get their money’s worth but Calais had a much steeper price tag.

  5. MadMax Says:

    What a joke….you suck Baker…fk off!

  6. JimmyJack Says:

Bird….I don’t think it was Baker vs Campbell.

DJax vs Campbell seems more accurate…….20million vs 30million

Even without signing DJax there is still 10million guaranteed difference. Hard to tell if the Glazers gave them that much spending freedom.

  7. Waterboy Says:

No reason to even keep Swaggy on the team any longer they should cut him now.

  8. playerunknown Says:

    Good job, Jameis and Kwon!

  9. JimmyJack Says:

    Baker 6million guaraneed(guess) vs Campbell 30 million.

That’s a huge difference. Not a chance they had a choice between the two

  10. JimmyJack Says:

I think it would go a long way with holding players accountable if the guy was marking inactive for the last game.

Will be something I’ll be watching for on Sunday.

  11. Bird Says:

    14.5 sacks vs .5 sacks.

I understand the difference in money. That was not the point. Licht chose baker cause they thought he could be a poor mans Campbell

    Big swing and a miss

  12. darin Says:

He is gona watch this game the same place he has watched their other 15. Some watching from the sideline some on the field. The guy is lazy and worthless this year of course but dirk and the staff definitely get some of the blame, if we are pointing fingers. That whole training camp running up to the back of a kicker while he was kicking, to heckle him. The fact he did it spellled trouble. The fact dirk didnt do a dang thing about it told me alot. I would have sent him home and put him on notice. Alot of people here said it was no big deal. No big deal if you wana lose games and collect fat checks for it. Some people dont see the big picture. Adios saggy and the clueless staff

  13. Clodhopper Says:

You knew this guy was a piece of sht when he heckled the kickers on HK. And not because he heckled them but the pure joy he got and that stupid smirk on his dumb face when they missed. He enjoyed them missing more than he enjoyed that tree!!

  14. JonBuc Says:

Ol Saggy…we had a high hopes for you. A few posters to their credit knew he was a lousy signing. Indeed he was…watching him harass the kickers on Hard Knockswas the first sign that he was rather dickish. He’ll be 400lbs..chillin’ and grillin’ at this time next year. He accidently helped keep the Bucs in a Top 5 draft position…so there’s that.

  15. Joe Says:

He enjoyed them missing more than he enjoyed that tree!!

    !!!!

  16. Clodhopper Says:

Joe, you didn’t use the “nickname of the year” in that list?

  17. JimmyJack Says:

Well Bird I would argue that Licht chose Campbell over DJax because they decided to use the major chunk of their spending freedom to address the WR position over the DE position.

I think it has been the stupidest move this front office has made.

I won’t claim to know how these things work but I do assume when you spend a lot of money on a FA you let the owners know what the expectations are and why you made that decision. I believe Dirk had a big part in the decision and is a major reason he should get fired………If Licht takes the axe it will be my assumption that DJax was his decision.

My bottom line is that somebody on that front office is making horrible decisions taking us nowhere. Obvisous changes need to take place after this year one way or another

  18. Seattle Buc Says:

Get rid of this bum. Dont let him back in the building.

  19. JimmyJack Says:

But I can’t see how you can say Baker was chosen over Campbell when the difference was 24 million…….How are you going to free up 24 million?

  20. Lamarcus Says:

Gmc needs to whoop some ass every now and then. This will get the haters off his back. Gmc defending this guy says alot about the locker room. The Dancing Duo needs to be exposed more

  21. Joe Says:

Joe, you didn’t use the “nickname of the year” in that list?

    “Half-sack!”

  22. Pelbuc Says:

Let’s thank our illustrious GM for selecting another cancer for the the roster despite Bakers track record. Seems like Licht specializes in loafing, check stealing cast offs and to think, Licht gets paid for his incompetence. SMH!

  23. Joe Says:

But I can’t see how you can say Baker was chosen over Campbell when the difference was 24 million…….How are you going to free up 24 million?

    Campbell’s salary is $15 million per Spotrac.com.

Bucs (Koetter) claimed they didn’t have $15 million “laying around.” Take away Swaggy’s salary ($6 million) and Doug Martin’s ($7 million) off the books, that’s a helluva start.

With a common sense approach, Bucs had way more cap space available than needed to land Campbell.

  24. Waterboy Says:

    Half-sack, lol that’s perfect!

  25. CalBucsFan Says:

Joe, PLEASE remove the link to the last word in your article, that is some sick stuff!

  26. Joe Says:

Joe, PLEASE remove the link to the last word in your article, that is some sick stuff!

It is, but pretty sure few if anyone knew the definition of that word.

  27. JimmyJack Says:

Joe I got the 24 million based on guaranteed money. Campbell’s 30 minus bakers 6. Not sure if it’s more accurate to use yearly salary’s or not.

Not sure what type of money they allocate to the RB position without keeping Doug here but paying guys like Doug and DJax big money to get little to no production is a major problem for this franchise.

Licht had this same problem with FA when Lovie was his HC. I’m pretty sure that with Lovie he was signing guys that his HC targeted. My big question is if the process of signing players is the same with Dirk.

  28. Clodhopper Says:

Haha. I thought that link would just take us to the definition. That’s some top notch research Joe!! 😂😂😂
At least it had a happy ending!!

  29. Joe Says:

My big question is if the process of signing players is the same with Dirk.

Not sure how much but Koetter certainly has some input into draft (O.J. Howard and Antony Auclair being two examples).

It seems like — not sure, though — that Koetter was blindsided by the T.J. Ward signing.

  30. Destinjohnny Says:

Jason can scout a little but he can’t build a roster

  31. JimmyJack Says:

Well, under Jason our drafts have put a lot of talent on the field. But our Free agency has put a lot of stiffs on the field.

We sit back and wish our team could turn things around like Philly has for example. One look at their roster and you can see they are hitting on bothe the draft and free agency.

We were expecting this team to contend because we assumed they knew what they were doing and guys like Ward, Baker and DJax would contribute.

Until they fix their approach to free agency our team will always be fighting an uphill battle.

This is why I’m behind the whole Gruden deal……In my own fantasy he will come in his input will fix our free agency woes(Don’t remember him signing players that didn’t live up to their contracts) and would let Licht do his thing in the draft………Not sure it would work that way but if it could it would be a major start to get this team playing at a contending level.

  32. I'm a Tandyman Bucs Fan Says:

How has TJ Ward, Swaggy Baker, D. Jackson helped this Bucs Team??? Look how much money we tied up with these guys. Go get 49ers GM and bring him home and get rid of Licht. Replace Koetter with Chucky and replace Smith with anyone… Hell Donald Duck would be an upgrade as Defensive Coordinator and the Bucs will be contenders in 18!!!!

  33. Season Is Over Says:

Why did Licht sign Baker? Baker has been the most consistent lineman all year as far as value is concerned. A few less tackles and 5 less meaningless sacks than the 16 Million Dollar Man. Baker wasn’t brought here to be a sack master. Baker has the same amount of forced fumbles and more pass defenses. How is McCoy worth 16 million when Baker isn’t worth 6?

Just because the “Drive-By Media” chooses favorites and loves scapegoats doesn’t mean they are correct. This site has had it out for Baker since he got here. How many times has McCoy jumped offsides? Way more than “Swaggy” when the games actually meant something. Lmao. Tampa media loves turning the blind eye.

Are we going to ever see the article on Peyton Barber being pulled for ineffectiveness and replaced with Doug Martin’s ineffectiveness? This was confirmed by Koetter in his press conference today. Maybe that doesn’t fit the narrative.

  34. JimmyJack Says:

You look at this team and the “few plays” we are away from winning…….. How about five sacks from Baker…….Two I TD and one forced fumble from Ward and three 80 yarders from DJax? Give me some of those and that’s your few plays away that this team is missing.

Instead we get DJax sitting on his leather couch getting massages with no interest in getting private practice with Winston during the preseason…….Baker humping trees…….and Ward crying about playing time, only to miss an assignment the following week costing us a TD.

Free agency is perhaps the biggest thing holding us back from success.

  35. lightningbuc Says:

Tell me again how great of a GM Licht is.

  36. JimmyJack Says:

Lightning…..he has done great in the draft, or at least close to it.

I don’t think he needs to be fired over free agency blunders if you can find any hope he can correct it……see my fantasy above

  37. WillieG Says:

I think the director of pro personnel needs to be replaced. The drafts have been fairly good, but free agency has been terrible. That falls on the director of pro personnel.

  38. Gt40bear Says:

One MAJOR change that MUST take place is the pro player evaluation staff! If Ira could find out “Swaggy” was a slug/cancer, you’re telling me Bucs FO couldn’t? This needs to get fixed NOW! Whether it’s Jason directly choosing these slugs or being sold on them by staff, something HAS to change if this team EVER hopes to turn it around!

  39. Dusthty Rhothdes Says:

Jason Licht is the sole reason the bucs are in such disarray, this team has no identity, he didnt build the trenches and is miserable in FA, he blew the entire 2016 draft and the bucs are a 4-12 team and far from showing promise like john lynchs team is doing

  40. Mark Says:

    Bravo Joe on the article!

  41. Steve Says:

I have to ask if Jameis going after and confronting Baker in the locker room makes him a hero and shows his passion to win. What does that make GMC for his what ever moving on comment?

  42. Lamarcus Says:

Playoffs Sb hopes were blown away before the season started when Mike smith said sack rush was overrated. The Bucs threw in the towel then I figured 8-8 to 9-7 but damn not this bad.

  43. Lamarcus Says:

    Steve

    That’s gmc defending Baker.

  44. JimmyJack Says:

Dusthty…….Maybe you don’t need Licht to built the trench on offense. Maybe coaching can make a difference.

One of the reasons Gruden won the SB in 2002 is because he got more production from players on his Oline that Dungy was getting. I believe there a chance a coaching change could get more out of a guy like Sweezy where under Dirk the plan may be to cut him and start from scratch.

Yeah the Dline needs to be built but maybe another coach sees we are weak there and instead of hiring a friend that needs a strong front four he can hire a coach that will tailor a defense that centers around a strong LB core.

I just think a lot of the process falls back on coaching as well as GM. And I haven’t seen anything good coming from this coaching staff. With Licht, he has found a lot of talent in the draft and I’d hate to give up on that if he could get a coach here that could be part of the solution to finding quality FAs

  45. I'm tired and 87 is right Says:

Remember in the hard knocks episode where he was mocking Jaguars fans after practice, from that episode I got a bad feeling about this kid. Now they got the last laugh, and proves to the point karma came back and got us. Anywho Go Bucs!

  46. JimmyJack Says:

LOL……Keep seeing all these fans lately jealous of the 49ers. Lots have already exclaimed jealousy of Tennessee.

Let’s see Tennessee is on the fast track to 8-8 and getting bounced and the 49ers have been done since OCT and in the cellar just like us.

Y’all can be ridicilous sometimes. I guarantee you can go over to their sites and you will see their fans aren’t proud of nothing.

Just give it two weeks and there will be a whole host of teams that have a fan base still giing a crap you can be jealous. How bout we raise our standards til then? The 49ers are hardly a team representing any type of goal we should be having.

  47. The Anomaly Says:

    Just cut swaggy.

You can’t have players going after other players and if JW was cursing out another player. Again, immaturity not leadership.

Dude needs to grow up now.

  48. Lamarcus Says:

    Jimmy jack

It’s not that. The big issue here is THE BUCS

I think we are divided team by 3

Team 1- players who want to win or trying figure it out who to win and JW ME13 Kwon lvd McDonald

Team 2 – players who don’t want to win cuz it’s harder but we get paid anyway are GMC, Baker, djx, Fitz,dm

Team 3 – players who just trying to eat, having to get thru ^^^ the bs are Brate, hump,Godwin, Dotson, Jevans, Grimes, Conte, vh3 Spence , cross, rsmith, dsmith, sweezy,oj howard, Marpet, gholston,Ayers, beckwith, tandy jelliott,

  49. JimmyJack Says:

I can buy that Lamarcus……I do think it’s a low blow to say Fitz don’t wanna win and not have Ward in his place.

Still though it’s very fitting that those who don’t care mostly play prominent roles on this team.

That screams accountability. It’d be nice if we had players on the Dline demanding higher play from a guy like Baker…..If not the HC should be doing it and not having his linebacker and QB doing it for him.

If they are going to keep Dirk as HC I’d feel a lot better if he starts to hold guys accountable and keep Baker and DM off the field on Sunday.

  50. BrianBucs Says:

Sounds like Jameis took his immature 10 year old temper tantrum into the locker room. Kwon was probably trying to shut Jameis up and keep him from embarrassing the team and franchise even more

  51. AceofAerospace Says:

Did saggy get wood with the tree?

  52. Hawaiian Buc Says:

    @Lamarcus,

Man, your hatred of GMC is so pathetic. How exactly did he defend Baker? Did you listen to the interview (of course you didn’t)? Your life must be a very unhappy one. Happy Holidays!

  53. Hawaiian Buc Says:

“Sounds like Jameis took his immature 10 year old temper tantrum into the locker room. Kwon was probably trying to shut Jameis up and keep him from embarrassing the team and franchise even more”

    ———

    Your agenda is beyond obvious.

  54. Lamarcus Says:

Ward should be an obvious choice for that list but idk he looks like he is still mad about Denver cutting him so winning has to be in his mind.

I seriously believe that when this team drafted JW first overall they gave him keys right away. No one talks about this fact. JW has been carrying this team and always not a good idea( Gabbert, Alex smith, Jamarcus Russell, Manziel, etc) to have them carry a pro franchise at such a young age no matter how much leadership he is showing. Put a team around ( Rams, Eagles, Titans, Chiefs) JW and let them close out games. The Bucs made fans heavily rely on JW for wins cuz that’s kinda what has been sold to us. Theorically that was supposed to happen but in reality JW can’t do it all and injured other younger QBs have at very least a decent run game. Those QBs are not asked to win those games. So no pressure for wins they can play their game and some fun. U think JW is happy?? Hell no. JW tried way too hard this year to us some games.

  55. Oxycondoms Says:

I didn’t mind him heckling the kickers it was probably the most productive thing he has done with the team

  56. TrollSlayer Says:

the only thing “swaggy” about chris baker is his man boobs

  57. firethecannons Says:

saggy fat man, get the fock out sooner rather than later

  58. TrollSlayer Says:

he just needs to go end of discussion i believe hes the worst free agent signing of the season period as far as d-jax is concerned i do agree he should have been more participative with the winston workouts but i NEVER took him as the no. 2 outside WR on ANY team hes suited best in the slot AND returning kicks and punts but obviously we paid so much for him they wanted him to be a starter i hope if gruden comes in or whoever will see this and say sorry desean were putting you in the slot and godwin outside that kid is gonna be a baller for us!

  59. JimmyJack Says:

Lamarcus…….I didn’t see what your saying. In 2015 i thought we had the perfect offense designed for Winston.

Just going by memory I remember us running out out a two RB set primarily. Of course Doug having a great year helped but I thought Sims was what really opened everything up……..He didn’t run too much but when he did it was the proper call because it was effective and the opposing defense was kept off balance because he destroyed the flats quite often.

I remember the seam routes being wide open in that offense. The only thing we didn’t do was put points on the board. I remember cussing at the team way more often for receiver drooped big catches(Evans and ASJ being biggest culprits) then I did for the QB throwing a bad pass or making a poor decision.

The offense we are in now just feels so one dimensional to me. There is way too many long developing plays and it feels like we don’t have the personal to even run it at times………It seems like this playbook is drawn up to be used by Aaron Rodgers. What really bother me is a game like Sundays……Our long developing plays just let Carolinas top ranked passrush tee off on us. I don’t understand why we can’t show more looks on offense that adjust to the defense we face……It wasn’t as bad as last time we played Carolina but it obviously wasn’t enough.

Dirk hasn’t adjusted in two years. Yeah maybe a rushing game helps if we add a good runner but maybe it looks like our gameplan on Thursday Night when we had our rush attack putting up chuncks of yards but our stubborn coach decided to stick with his gameplan and hurl the ball ineffectively downfield.

  60. BrianBucs Says:

    Hawaiian

I have no agenda and stand by my comment.

Sunday’s tantrum was just like the one in the Rose Bowl when Jameis and his Noles were getting crushed by Mariotta and his Ducks.
The face of a franchise and alleged team leader doesn’t act like a spoiled 10 year old. Embarrassing

  61. buccadawg Says:

Let saggy play QB. Maybe he would move faster being chased. But i gotta say he sure was quick jumping into the neutral zone. Even in peewee the d-lineman are told watch the ball, difference is they usually listen. GET RID OF HIM AND A LOT OF OTHER DEAD WOOD..

  62. Gerald McRuud Says:

After the New Orleans game, where #93 quit on the Kamara screen with 1:00 to go in 2nd Q, #93 said anybody on his team that quits has to get off his team.

So why do #3 and #58 have to be the moral authority for a bum on the DL?

Because #93 can’t lead a horse to water.

  63. Gerald McRuud Says:

Would you rather have #3 or #58 going after baker, or would you rather have #93’s reaction to baker, which joe quoted as “whatever”

Do you want a guy who’s going to spit in somebody’s face or do you want somebody who’s just happy to collect a paycheck?

Jameis Winston and Kwon Alexander are cut from the Hardy Nickerson cloth. Yeah, they might spit in a MFer’s face. But they care about football.

#93 is the modern day Alvin Harper. Collected a paycheck off some meaningless stats, just riding paychecks until retirement. Victory is secondary. Understand?

We need an authouritian coach to bring the best out of #93. Schiano did it. But, remember who brought that defense froom “good nice guys” to “great ruthless killers” from 2001-2002? That was Jon Gruden.

    Pay the man

  64. Buc4life Says:

Are you kidding me. The defense was ruthless for years before Gruden. He broke them up after letting Sapp go, and cutting Simeon and Lynch. We my need a change, especially on defense, but I don’t know if Gruden is the answer. He has a worse FA record than Lyght. Have we forgot the duds he brought in (Charlie Gardner, Tim Brown and a host of other old slugs).

  65. Rrsrq Says:

I’m going to need every player to look in the mirror, easy to throw stones at Swaggy, if Swaggy not giving his all I get it, but why were they even in that situation, why were we having to attempt a 50+ yard FG, why couldn’t we be up by 20 by then (all season). I’m sure Swaggy responded, hold on to the ball, that probably got Jameis p’od

  66. Jmarkbuc Says:

    Jimmy jack

    Re: 49ers

Yep, they’ve been done since October, but currently are on a 5 game win streak, so more wins than we have, with a QB who just got there. John is proving to be shrewd and adept. What’s not to like? I’m not jealous of the niners. Just happy for Lynch.

  67. FortMyersDave Says:

Jmarkbuc; Lynch has the Niners turned around like Dungy had with the Bucs in ’96; going from 1-8 to 6-10…..

On Swaggy: guy is a cancer and as I said on another thread; time for a Vegas Inquiry Joe; this is the 2nd or third time the guy has had a penalty late that could have changed the outcome of the game, he got the Jets close in week 10, roughing the passer that extended McNown’s one decent drive.

  68. unbelievable Says:

    Dendrophiliac, lol nice on Joe.

Not surprised at all that Baker was the cause. This guy literally doesn’t give a f@ck what happens. And here people think McCoy is the problem, lol. Fools.
