Ali Marpet Has An Ankle Injury

August 8th, 2017

Bad sign at One Buc Palace.

Ali Marpet didn’t practice today.

Marpet was smiling after practice and talking about how he does not expect to watch Hard Knocks tonight, but Marpet’s right ankle was taped up and winning head coach Dirk Koetter acknowledged it’s an injury.

Koetter said Marpet was hurt in practice yesterday. “He got a little ankle, should be a day or so,” Koetter said.

This is noteworthy because Marpet has had ankle issues previously. They cost him a few starts in 2015. Also, Marpet successfully transitioning to center is a key cog in the Bucs’ success this season. He needs the reps.

Now, Koetter has to decide whether he wants to put Marpet on the phony grass turf at Paul Brown Stadium on Thursday night with Geno Atkins breathing down his neck.

Joe’s hoping this ankle doesn’t become a “thing.” Marpet certainly was not concerned.

Yes hold him out game 1. I know he needs it but going against Atkins in preseason is not a good choice to make

  2. Pickgrin Says:

Perhaps Joe Hawley has a better chance than I thought of being kept on the team if Marpet’s ankles are any kind of an ongoing concern.

Although I think I’d rather put trust in Ali’s ankles than Hawley’s knees….

Here is to a SPEEDY recovery.. We need you healthy Mr. Marpet!

  4. Pa Privateer Says:

Feels good to have Hawley and E Smith as depth when this happens.

I have no issues sitting him Friday. This will be OK.

  5. LocalJoker Says:

#Bucs coach Dirk Koetter said C Ali Marpet has a right ankle sprain and will miss ‘a day or two.’

  8. Buccaneer Bonzai Says:

Heard on the radio (NOT WDAE) that Marpet said it was a minor thing that would not normally keep him out.

Agree with Privateer….I think the Bucs like Hawley because of his experience and his heart….E Smith is also a valuable and flexible backup.

You guys who have been out to TC…how about your takes on Dot…RT is still my major concern….how about Benenoch…is he improving?

At least we have some depth at center for now.

Seems minor if it was just taped up. Probably precautionary after the last few days of pads and hitting. As the game keeps getting faster and harder, it seems we only will see more and more injuries every year.

And some guys just seem to have certain body parts that get aggravated a bit easier than others. As you said, Marpet has had ankle stuff before. Jameis has had an ankle / lower leg thing… MIke Evans has had issues with his hamstrings… etc.

Hopefully it’s no big deal and he’s ready to roll next week! I wouldn’t mind him sitting out the first preseason game either.

  11. D-Rome Says:

Ali Marpet was in a walking boot around this time last year and he managed to play 16 games.

  12. Wausa Says:

I think its pretty obvious what the Bucs have.

We do not need to see Mike Evans, DJax, Gerald McCoy, Brent Grimes, Ali Marpet, Kwon or Lavante in the preseason unless they would like to get their feet wet on a few plays.

Game is Friday night correct, or am I missing something?

  14. darin Says:

Yes Friday. Joes missing football so much he’s trying to move it up a day. That or get them over with faster! Go Bucs
