VIDEO: SACK! Clinton McDonald; Bigger Is Better

August 8th, 2017

Bigger impact

Great musical irony in this video from this morning’s practice that features Clinton McDonald shining yet again in training camp.

It’s been a “good camp” for McDonald, who has added weight as ordered/suggested by Mike Smith, McDonald told Joe today.

“I think the fact that Chris Baker is in here, we have good depth at defensive tackle, we also have good competition,” Koetter said after practice. “You know, yesterday, when Gerald [McCoy] was having a day off, you could really notice Clinton stepping into that 3-technique position and making plays. … He’s having a good camp.”

It has been a strong summer for McDonald, who enters his fourth year in pewter. The last two have been marred by injury. But McDonald, 30, is talented enough and works hard enough to still be wanted — and needed.

He’s about 10 pounds heavier this season. And McDonald said it’s all healthy weight, accomplished through diet and the weight room. Smith challenged McDonald to get better the right way this offseason, and McDonald believes he met the challenge without the speed loss.

Joe’s eager to see if McDonald can beat out Baker. Enjoy McDonald’s camp “sack” below in first team duty.

The Realist is eager to see how many games CM98 will miss because of injury!!!!!!!!!

This will be his 8th year and he has never played a full year yet!!!!!!!!!

    Go Bucs!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  2. Pickgrin Says:

McDonald’s last year of his contract is a real bargain for the Bucs at only $2M.

Clinton is an extremely solid DT IMO. Biggest problem is he hasn’t been able to stay healthy and available enough of the time. Has missed 17 games as a Buccaneer the last 3 years. Hopefully rotating with Baker and GMC will work better for the health of all of them.

GMC, Baker and McDonald is an extremely good 3 man rotation at DT.

    Watcha got Stevie T.?

  3. Baz Says:

Looked like real bad technique on Pamphile; he stepped too far to his left and gave McDonald an open lane straight to the QB, and to his credit McDonald took advantage of it. Dammit man!
Love our O-line, but things like that worry me.

  4. Mojiska Says:

On the other side, good accurate pass by 3 to hit hump in stride with pressure in his face… something he has struggled with.

  5. Big Marlon B Says:

great blitz by David to free that up. he exploded into the A gap, took the center with him, and opened a massive lane for McDonald. good stuff.

  6. unbelievable Says:

who is playing center in that video? #51?

  7. Bucsfanman Says:

Always, always, always need depth at this position. Good stuff!

I for one do not want C Mac to “beat out” Chris Baker Joe. I have always maintained that his role and how he was used in Seattle was the way to properly have him produce and be utilized. He was a back-up 3 Tec in Seattle, part of Seattle’s DT rotation. He can penetrate every snap he plays not as well as GMC but not that far behind. He NEEDS a big body next to him like GMC will have this year in Baker. I’m personally pulling for Stevie T to fill that role.

I wish we would line up in a 5-2 sometimes.

    Imagine

    LE- William Gholston
    DT-McDonald
    NT- Baker
    DT-Gerald McCoy
    RE- Ayers

    LB- Lavonte David
    LB- Kwon Alexander

    Nobody could run against that!!!

And LaVonte and Kwon are two of the FASTEST linebackers in the league.

They would make so many tackles in a 5-2.
