Robert Ayers Studies Brent Grimes

Is Brent Grimes a new man?

Is Brent Grimes a new man?

Last week, Joe detailed the “rub-off” factor at work from America’s Quarterback, Jameis Winston.

But he’s not the only contagious player at One Buc Palace.

Big-money defensive end Robert Ayers says he’s been infected by the Bucs’ vibe. And he’s loving it.

In fact, Ayers even thinks Pro Bowl cornerback newcomer Brent Grimes has been drawn out of his shell because of Tampa Bay’s electric team atmosphere.

“It’s real energetic. A lot of things are contagious,” Ayers said. “Winning is contagious, losing’s contagious, having a positive attitude is contagious. You can have a lot of guys that are negative and they can bring the room down, but here I haven’t seen one guy that’s like that and it’s rubbing off. It’s rubbing off on me, it’s rubbing off on all the new guys and guys that are normally quiet guys, you see them – Brent Grimes, from what I hear he was a little quiet – you see him out here getting a little energetic and things like that. So the atmosphere is real contagious and the expectations are high and we’re trying to win. I think everybody here is trying to win.”

Ayers was a first-round pick of Denver in 2009, and he went through multiple coaching changes. And after two years with the Giants, he’s seen plenty of locker rooms in his day. So it’s noteworthy to have him drop praise like this on the Bucs.

Is Grimes getting pumped up and vocal, per Ayers, a good sign? Perhaps Grimes is just glad to be out from under the train wreck that was the Dolphins of the past three seasons.

I think this year is still going to be tough. But this team. This group. Jameis. These guys are going to take the bucs to new heights

Agree with Joe and the comments above. The team and the fans feel the vibe and the elevated air of confidence. Reading, listening and watching lead the surging optimism.

Harry…I’ve been trying REAL hard to temper my excitement for this season.

It’s hard to do that when you read stuff like what Ayers is saying.

I still think it’s all Jameis.

  7. Wausa Says:

Three big reasons to be optimistic:

    1) We have a much stronger coaching staff on defense than we had previously.

    2) Jason Licht has proven so far that he and his staff are elite at judging college football talent.

    3) Jameis Winston has the chance to be one of the elite QB’s in the NFL.

As the guy who always rants about chemistry and the “locker room” this is of course music to my ears.

And Robert Ayer’s class act is also contagious..that was a great FA pick for us..Love that man!!!

  12. Bucsfanman Says:

@87 and Harry- I’m totally with you. It is extremely difficult to temper my enthusiasm right now.
    Is it football season yet?!

I don’t know. I think we have a decent roster finally but I still think we are the bottom third of the league. This year I really think we’re only a couple players away from 8-8, 9-7. Like another receiver and rotation dt. But we’re not going to get them now. I’d say 6-7 wins. Hope I’m wrong. If McCoy or McDonald go down were in trouble. Same with Vjax and me..
