Seven Dead Teammates Inspire Revis

June 20th, 2013

When Darrelle Revis goes home to the once-thriving steel town of Aliquippa, Pennsylvania, the Pittsburgh media comes out in full force.

The Revis Island Foundation kicked off its summer football camp yesterday, and Revis was on the field working with kids at his old high school and delivering inspiring messages of hard work, along with his mother. WTAE-TV out of Pittsburgh reported that Revis drew inspiration for helping kids, in part, by experiencing the misfortune of his high school teammates.

When Darrelle Revis’ Aliquippa High School football team won a state championship, he scored five touchdowns. Seven of his teammates from that squad are already dead, and it’s from that perspective that he runs his foundation and his football camp

Revis talked a lot to the youth about the importance of hard work in all fields of life. Some of that is captured in the CBS video below.

    Very excited to have Revis on the team. I must admit, when I first heard of the trade deal, I was very leary. I heard all the news media of hold outs and locker room troubles. So far, all I have seen is quite positive.

    New Team new direction, Revis and other vets are stepping us as leaders. The selfish calls that he did in the Jets have so far not been shown. He has embraced his role as a leader and gone with it at a good rate.

    @Seany

    Agreed. I felt the same way.

    Best CB in the land.

    There are absolutely no reports of him ever causing troubles in the locker room. In fact, he was considered a great teammate and locker room guy by both Jets players and coaches. The same applies in college at Pittsburgh. I’m not sure why so many people have this misunderstanding. I assume it’s because of his holdouts (even though he never missed any games). We have no idea what was going on behind the scenes that led to his holdout (believe it or not, NFL teams are often equally at fault in a holdout situation), so it’s not fair to pass judgement.

    Feels good to know MY team has some good dudes on it. If you listen to NY Joke fan Revis is a dirt bag this is evidence he is just a baller who wanted to get paid. Who doesn’t? I’m bout to ask for my evaluation and I want to work from home in my drawers!!!
