RGIII Is No Josh Freeman

April 20th, 2012

Joe loves when Josh Freeman improvises in the pocket, and when he runs the ball. So does Bill Cowher.

Yeah, nobody wants to see Freeman get hit, but the guy is a beast and was the No. 2 rushing quarterback back in 2010. Perhaps running more keeps Freeman more locked in.

With all the hype around Robert Griffin III heading to the Redskins next week to channel Michael Vick, one man is not completely sold on Griffin pulling that off. That would be last year’s super rookie Von Miller of the Denver Broncos. Speaking to Pro Football Weekly, Miller said Griffin is no Josh Freeman.

“He can throw the ball pretty well, and he’s fast. But if you hit him enough times, he’s going to wear down,” Miller said of Griffin. “He can run and throw, but I wouldn’t put him in that same class as (Michael) Vick, Cam (Newton) or (Josh) Freeman.”

It’s good to see Freeman commanding such respect. Perhaps Miller’s gotten a jump on watching film for preparation of the 2012 season. The Bucs head to Denver in December.

I don’t know… have you seen pictures of Josh lately? With Mike Williams having manorexia last year and Free looking like he lost 20 pounds, I don’t know if he’ll be more robust or less.

I mean, we drafted Big Ben not Michael Vick.

Wasn’t Josh Freman….beaten into our reading eyes…”A wasted draft pick”….

Wow. Very cool quote, and from a player.

  5. BonesMahoney Says:

RG3s game isn’t comparable to any of those guys, he plays completely different. Odds are Von just ran out of QBs that were the same skin color as RG3 and threw Freeman in there(it’s ridiculous how players get compared to others based on that. Freeman was way more Roethlisberger than Jamarcus Russell coming out but most people used the Russell comparison, or Jason Campbell).

  6. Oahubuc Says:

Even if he did lose 20 lbs he’s still a big, tough cat. He does belong in that category. And he will lay one on you if you pick him off.

  7. Have A Nice Day Says:

And Josh Freeman is no RGIII.

  8. Garv Says:

And Doug Flutie is no Dwight Howard.

A little off topic. But if Peter Konz falls into the 2nd round, which is a possibility, I think we should seriously look at him. I know we just moved Zuttah to Center, but I think Konz gives us a true all pro type lineman to compliment Penn, Nicks, and Joseph. That would be hard to pass up if there. Zuttah would make a great 2nd stringer who could play multiple positions on the line.

Kate Upton is no Rachel Watson

    Freeman for MVP!

  12. Blackmagic00 Says:

Joe I think you need to set up a second site for buc bashing. Lol

  13. Mr Lucky Says:

Was version of Freeman was he referring to:

    2010 MVP-like Freeman or
    2011 INT-like Freeman

I really, really hope that Freeman gets his act together for this upcoming season because 2011 was in a single word:

    TERRIBLE

  14. kaput Says:

The Bucs were terrible in 2011, not just Freeman.

  15. Jacko101 Says:

Josh Freeman is the man period I’m ALL for him I see his talent and this year he will shine. Dont jump on the boat once it leaves the dock.

  16. thibs5599 Says:

Freeman is listed at 250, so even if he lost 20 pounds he is still 230 pounds of muscle. He looks thin but that will make him faster and not necessarily weaker.

  17. st. louis Bucs fan Says:

Free is a beast!!! i wouldnt compare him to Vick, hes reminds me sooooo much of a “young” Donovan Mcnabb. he scrambles to make things happen just like Mcnabb did. i often refer to Free as “lil Donovan”. his style is a mirror image of it, thing is hes bigger than Mcnabb, another QB he reminds me of is Steve “AIR” McNair, guys who had success because they threw 1st and ran 2nd!!! i hope Free has a career as good as those guys did but actually winning a superbowl and not just gettin there and losing.

  18. kaput Says:

He’s closest to Roethlisberger than anyone else.

  19. Jessup Says:

Freeman has Newton’s physique now, so maybe we’ll see some Newton like running plays this year.

  20. ben Says:

all the stars are aligned for a break out year. i think these coaches know what they are doing, a legit big play wr, bolstered o line, top shape, he is hungry after last year

  21. Bobby Says:

Free actually has a QB coach (OC) that has worked with Eli Manning now so I look for only great things from him next year. This whole team is going to be sooooo much different next year. I think we are going to shock opponents who played us last year and expect the same ol’ Bucs.
