The Luke Stocker Mystery Continues

August 21st, 2012

Luke Stocker didn’t “feel well.” Luke Stocker “felt funny.”

Those are a couple of ways Greg Schiano has described whatever has kept Stocker from significant practice time and last week’s Titans-Bucs preseason game. It’s a troubling mystery, since the Bucs need Stocker and he was on the sidelines with his mystery ailment today at One Buc Palace.

“He did stuff over the weekend. He did stuff Monday, and then he felt funny again,” Schiano said today. “We’ll just have him see the doctor.”

Last week, veteran Bucs beat scribe Woody Cummings, of The Tampa Tribune, noted Schiano refuted commentary that claimed Stocker was dealing with post-concussion symptoms. Though Schiano has never shared what “the doctor” has reported about Stocker.

At this point, Joe’s not sure what’s going on or what to believe. But the reality is that Stocker is not right, and if he’s still having lingering effects from a traumatic brain injury, aka a concussion, then that could sideline him for quite a while. Joe wishes Stocker well.

It’s a concussion and he’s trying Jedi mind tricks with no success.

  2. bucfanjeff Says:

    “He” being Schiano.

  3. Hawaiian Buc Says:

It’s obviously Mark Dominik’s fault that he has concussions. (sarcasm)

  4. Chris FWC Says:

Get well soon! I hope its not serious.

That cather, Chirinos, for the Rays is still having brain troubles from catching a foul off his face mask in spring training.

  5. Brad Says:

I hope the dude is ok but the the bottom line is the team needs a TE. Not sure what’s out there but Dominik needs to get busy.

  6. OAR Says:

    Hawaiian
    You beat me too it!

  7. OAR Says:

And I agree ChrisFWC! Hopefully it’s not serious and can get back on the field!

  8. Hawaiian Buc Says:

    @Oar,
Even better, I beat Thomas to it (minus the sarcasm).

  9. Have A Nice Day Says:

Significant injuries have plagued a large portion of our recent draft picks. Are there other teams having similar issues recently? I mean, Stocker, Price, McCoy, Lewis, Bowers, Grimm, Benn, Miller…. Looking at the list, 5 of those guys were drafted in the 2nd round or higher. That is a lot of early round talent suffering through significant injuries. You know that is certainly hurting our chances of winning. If these guys were all healthy all these years, we would be quite a nasty team by now.

But injuries and NFL go hand in hand. I suppose most of it is just bad luck.

  10. Hawaiian Buc Says:

Yeah, it is pretty crazy how bad our luck had been with injuries. I know we took a chance with Bowers, but most had little to no history of injuries. We seem a bit snake bit.

  11. BKNYfootballhead Says:

Oh my God, I think you’re all clueless to the cause, obviously the dreaded and unnecessary 110×16 torture test is the reason Stocker feels funny.

  12. Have A Nice Day Says:

    @BKNY haha

  13. Bayfisher Says:

Has this guy done anything to warrant worrying about him missing time? Considering how much he has played so far, guys like him can easily be found after first or second cuts. The Bucs either have the worst draft team or the worst conditioning physicians in the league. Both are equally plausible.

  14. Thomas 2.2 Says:

Did Big contract Dom signees Clayton, Ward, Leftwich, Nugent, Black, THC Jax etc all suck and fail due to injury? Injury is just one of the reasons that DomDom has missed in the roster assembly department.

Bowers fell bc of injury, Benn fell bc of learning disability and low Wonderlich, Dom scapegoated a west coast scout bc there were red flags on Price, everyone knew Winslow was damaged goods.

  15. Thomas 2.2 Says:

    Snake bit? Ha ha ha.

  16. jarrett Says:

thomas, dont forget brent bowden in the 5th

  17. the_buc_realist Says:

its not dom dom’s fault. the Bucs just need a voodoo doctor.

  18. Have A Nice Day Says:

“Benn fell bc of learning disability and low Wonderlich”

    I will support Claiborne also.

So, the reasoning you give for Benn is predominately do to a rumored “learning disability and low Wonderlich”, but you would have supported drafting Mo Claiborne who had a low Wonderlic and a documented learning disability?

  19. Hawaiian Buc Says:

    Thomas,
You should stand outside One Buc Place with a “fire Dominik” sign. You spend so much of your worthless little life complaining about him here, why don’t you put your time to better use? Stop being a chump hiding behind your little keyboard and man up! It’s not like you don’t have enough time on your hands.

  20. Thomas2.2 Says:

Have a nice: do you speak English? I am saying those (learning dis and Wonderlich) were the reasons / red flags that caused Benn to fall in the eyes of some.

I did not pass judgment or opinion on their validity. Frankly, I am opposed to not giving players like Benn and Mo opportunities solely bc of learning disabilities.

Further, please don’t mistake Mo for Regus, Mo was a top 5 player according to many. Nobody had Regus rated that highly.

I will admit that I expected Regus to be better than he has been but I loved Shipley out of College – probably more.

  21. lurker Says:

thomas’s bad juju is the reason for the injuries! 😉 please become a saints or falcons “fan” (or troll would be more apt).

  22. Jrock Says:

…..you keep records of Thomas’ posts from 4 months ago? What are you, The Daily Show preying on Fox News?

  23. Thomas2.2 Says:

Would anyone besides Joe care from a football standpoint if Dom were sent packing tomorrow?

(I do not like people losing their jobs but this is a results oriented business and GM does not appear to be a good fit for DomDom)

  24. lurker Says:

and claiborne is injured, and richardson is injured, and kalil had a thumb injury 8/14….etc, etc, etc

  25. Adam L. Says:

And the Bucs traded up for Stocker. “Rock Star.” (tongue planted firmly in cheek)

  26. Have A Nice Day Says:

I merely asked a question. No need to get defensive. Just seems odd to chastise the GM for something you say you aren’t against.

Even with the last draft you said: “Dom fought all day to get T Rich and lost. Then due to disappointment he bumped back thinking he would still get Mo, nope, punked by Dallas.
Then he worked the phones like his pabts were on fire past the clock expiration to trade back again, then took barron.”

But recently stated: “I agree with you Steve on this year’s picks – but those were clearly Schiano picks.”

So, which is it? Seems like it is Dom’s fault when you deem it bad but Schiano’s doing when you deem it good.

Your constant flip-flopping makes it hard for others to understand your viewpoint or take it as anything more than trolling.

And I’ve already said too much. End of this convo.

  27. lurker Says:

adam says: “(tongue planted firmly in cheek)”

and is that in thomas’ cheek? 😉

  28. Thomas2.2 Says:

I am flattered Have a Nice:

A lot has come out between the draft and a couple of days ago. After it happened, it seemed very odd that the team would trade back for so little and draft a safety (albeit a good one) with so many needs, including Talib facing jail or suspension.

During the draft it was reported that Dom was “working the phones” first to try and get T Rich for Schiano, and then to move back when Cle wasn’t budging. Subsequently, Schiano has said that Barron was his guy bc they needed physicality.

I love it that you follow me so closely. flattering.

  29. Hawaiian Buc Says:

You didn’t really answer any questions Thomas. Nice try to deflect, but highly unsuccessful. So why don’t you lay it all on the table right now. Go down this year’s picks, and let us know who’s picks they were. Do the same for V-Jax, Nicks, Okoye, Wright, and even Shipley. Let’s see where you stand now, that way you can’t wiggle out of it later.

You just love to pass blame to whoever you don’t like at the time. The last 3 years it was Raheem. You never said jack about Dominik. Now that Raheem is gone, it’s amazing how you devote nearly every post to “DomDom”. Are you sure you want Dominik sent home? Who would you blame at that point? Oh yeah, that would be the Glazers and GMC. My bad, what was I thinking?

  30. Drew Says:

    Thomas,

I’m on a conference call with China and they asked you to respectfully refrain from bashing Dom.

  31. Have A Nice Day Says:

@Hawaiian Exactly why I rarely comment to him. It literally took all of ten seconds by simply googling key words. He deflects as all trolls do. That is all he does. Pointing out his hypocrisies only strengthen what his goal is: to troll JBF. He is a real world Eric Cartman.

We’d be wise not play into it any further.

    .

Shall we go through the list of Bruce Allen moves?

  33. Morgan Says:

Coach S doesn’t take well to malingerers. Go ask Brian Price about that……but seriously, hope all goes well for Stocker and his neuro health. Longterm effects of brain injury is starting to be better understood and have lasting effects.

  34. BigMacAttack Says:

Hawaiian Buc is on a roll.

    Cheers and go Bucs !!!

I give Have A Nice Day credit for telling me I was capable of having a full blown argument all by myself. That was a great line and I applaud her for it.

Thomas can occasionally be funny (when on his meds), but only about 10% of the time. The same old argument, be it right or wrong gets boring.

I just don’t see what there is to be upset about right now with the Bucs. One might think that when Rah got canned that these clowns would stop whining. They have just become worse and that is why some of us label them a HATERS. It’s because their glass has a gaping hole in it and they always find something to bitch about. It is about as old as blaming Bush. At what point does someone pull their head out their A$$ and see the light. No $h!t, the sun still rises in the morning and will again tomorrow. You can’t blackout the sun.
