“SirVocea Has Made Huge Strides”

September 10th, 2026

The strongest unit on the Buccaneers is inside linebacker, says Todd Bowles.

That may have surprised some people, but the guy who picked the players is in Bowles’ camp.

Buccaneers Ring of Honor general manager Jason Licht backed Bowles’ bold statement yesterday during a visit to 95.7 FM WDAE radio.

“I would probably echo him,” Licht said about Bowles inside linebackers claim. “That’s an exciting group that we have there. I also feel very, very good about our outside linebacker group and I love our receiver group. And I’m always going to say something about our offensive line  because that’s the most important group, in my opinion, in this building because they protect the quarterback. There’s a lot to be excited about.”

Licht raved about Alex Anzalone, Josiah Trotter and Christian Roseboom, and then caused Joe to drive off the side of the road.

“SirVocea [Dennis] has made huge strides this year, as well,” Licht said.

Dennis, of course, was the Bucs’ starter alongside now-retired Lavonte David last season at inside linebacker.

Dennis is healthy now after getting banged up in August. Joe is intrigued to see Dennis on special teams. He’s healthy and should represent a a significant upgrade on fourth down.

    Bud Licht is a joke..

  2. Tundra1 Says:

    Sure.

  3. Usfbucs Says:

Thankfully he made huge strides towards the bench.

  4. Kayla Says:

Well, he also made outrageous preseason statements about how improved Braswell was a couple of years ago. So…

  5. jimmy Says:

so he’ll just be bad not really bad.

  6. Fred McNeil Says:

He keeps that bench good n warm.

  7. AquaBum Says:

    glad to hear it!!!!…

im sure he’ll be counted on this year…always thought SVD was a great blitzing LB…zone coverage is definitely not his forte

    GO BUCS!!!!

  10. Fire The Cannons & Fire Todd Says:

Remember when Licht said Braswell was going to SHOCK the world…

Can’t take him or Todd serious

  11. Timbucs2 Says:

As long as the QB doesn’t throw the football, Dennis should be okay.

  12. Saskbucs Says:

A 32 year old, a rookie, a veteran journeyman and Dennis.

I just don’t understand what Bowles and Licht are talking about sometimes. It was so bad they gotta talk it up and sell hope?

If they wanna say most improved room, sure.

Everyone is worried about the CB room and I would argue that it’s as strong of a unit as ILB is. I would put the DL, OLB and WR room ahead of it. I’d probably put the OL unit ahead of it.

    Wild.

  13. Jack Burton Mercer Says:

He’s pretty fast and should be a welcome addition to fourth down. Also, I do expect him to have improved on the other downs in case we need him there. Absent that improvement, let him walk at the end of his contract. Remember though, he is cheap relatively speaking.

Man y’all for some reason can always I mean always can turn something good to a negative! #gobucs

  15. KABucs Says:

Come on guys, Braswell did shock the world.

That high of a pick, doing a whole lot of nothing? I was shocked.
    Isn’t that what Licht meant?

  16. Anyhony Says:

When Licht drafted Calijah Kancey I went to see his highlights and Denis was a flash and blur in every frame, I hope he figures it out.

  17. Simple T Says:

SVD was/is not as bad as Joe and others want to you to believe.
    100 tackles, 10 TFL, 3 sacks, 5 pass breakups.

  18. Football 1 Says:

Great that he has made great strides and the defense is good with him in reserve. Hopefully he continues to progress and becomes a quality player. Maybe last year was just too soon for him.

  19. Jmarkbuc Says:

    Saskbucs

    Yep.

Positive Reply……let’s have a good year!

  21. JimBobBuc Says:

SVD did make one huge stride – getting out of the ice bath to finally go to a practice.

  22. UGotRobbed Says:

“Braswell is going to shock the world” I don’t believe anything that comes out of JLs mouth!

  23. Tampa2ATL Says:

Have to concur Bowles comments a bit suspect given past sunshine & rainbow statements this time of year in seasons past.

Maybe just trying to keep [Dennis\ILB’s] motivated(?). Half joking.

  24. SRQBucsFan Says:

So, if I’m to believe a poster Joe is a simpleton and doesn’t know football. Joe is deceiving us fans because he wants us to believe a player is bad. Hmmm……..

  25. ModHairKen Says:

    Licht is a liar.

  26. Smoke Porterhouse Says:

The problem with Dennis (well, one of them, anyway) was Bowles would have him trying to cover guys he couldn’t cover, such as Bijan. Yes, Dennis isn’t very good at football at the NFL level, but Lovie Bowles did him no favors by using him incorrectly.

No way you can name 5 GMs who are better than Licht

What do you think he is going to say? I should not have drafter Braswell, he sucks?

    Fred Says:
Man y’all for some reason can always I mean always can turn something good to a negative! #gobucs
    – – – – – – – – – – – –
ALWAYS, that is just who they are. Negative and don’t have a clue. We could have McVey as our coach and a combo of Les Snead and John Schneider as our GMs and these idiots would still be complaining.

  28. Senor Harry in Costa Rica Says:

    F-ing Moderation… For what?????

  29. BillyBucco Says:

Simple T, I don’t think it’s about what he DID DO.
It’s more about what he is incapable of doing.
That is what causes teams to target him as a weak spot.
Can’t happen and it did over and over.

I will need to see it to believe it and hopefully we don’t have to.

  30. greg-therealone Says:

I simply don’t understand what people are looking at when they say SVD played well. He was out of position more often than not. He took bad angles. I have trouble even watching last year because of it. I think Lavonte was covering for him previously and last year couldn’t and the D got exposed because of it. The same was probably true for White as well. You can play loose when you have a hall of fame LB next to you and get away with it.

  31. greg-therealone Says:

6 GMS better than Licht – Howie Roseman, Les Snead, Brett Veach, Brad Holmes, Brandon Beane, John Schneider…

Is Licht top 10 – you bet. I would say he is in a dead heat with some of them and if this season works out he may move up the list.

I think that the Bucs got too caught up in the nonsense about Buccaneers guys. He wouldn’t have drafted Warren Sapp using those criteria. Think about that. I think it was a mistake to extend Bowles. I think when Arians left the way he did they didn’t have a ton of choices and when Bowles won the worst division football multiple times I think they were stuck. But extending him the way they did? That hitched Licht and Bowles together and I think it’s going to bite him in the ass.

There were other things that were mismanaged as well – The Liam Cohen debacle. Devin White. wtvr – there is a whole list. If they pull it off this season everything is gravy. But I sense the Glasers had to get directly involved in this Vita Vea situation and the Baker Mayfield contract. That’s not a good look.
