Baker Mayfield Gives Bucs Fans A Shoutout
September 10th, 2026
Baker Mayfield and his family pose with the Bucs’ offensive line yesterday at One Buc Palace. Luke Goedeke was too busy pumping weights.
Many times in the past couple of years, Baker Mayfield has said Tampa is a good fit for him on and off the football field.
This past summer, when Mayfield had his football camp at his alma mater, the University of Oklahoma, Mayfield even said to a local Oklahoma reporter that if he didn’t re-sign with the Bucs, he wanted to plant roots and make Tampa his forever home, though he confessed Norman, Okla. is also home to him.
Yesterday, when Mayfield spoke after signing an extension with the Bucs, which makes Mayfield one of the NFL’s highest-paid quarterbacks, he was asked why he has clicked in Tampa.
“Just the love and support,” Mayfield said. “I think from the first time that we started our foundation and had an event, just seeing the support that the whole community has for each other, whether it’s baseball, hockey, the football community, and just the fans in general.
“They’re truly passionate fans. They love this area. They’re really proud of being from here. The support you feel is real.
“Just to continue to expand on that and grow this community to be the best possible in the country, it’s a fun feeling.”
Joe sensed Tampa was for Mayfield when, only a couple of months after signing with the Bucs, Mayfield was at a Rays game sitting in the Fruitdome in the lower bowl down the first base line just like any normal fan.
There, fans came up to Mayfield buying him beers as if to say, “Welcome to Tampa Bay and good luck.” Mayfield responded by shotgunning beers with the fans who bought him a cold one.
Whenever a Bucs player is seen shotgunning beers with fans at a Rays game, or hanging at Lightning games with the offensive line, it’s a pretty good sign Tampa is culturally a good fit.

Now cover that darn heat box of a stadium so we can fill it up with local fans. Glad he is signed. Go BUCS

It’s almost startling how down to earth he is.
Just considering the environmental factors, I would think it’s impossible for a heisman winner, 1st overall pick, pro bowler, etc. to be so unpretentious.
This dude’s is unreal in the absolute best way possible.

I am a Bucs season ticket holder and I have seen Baker with some or all of the OL at Lightning games. They sit among the great unwashed not in a suite. When Baker appears on the JumboTron, he chugs a beer. Easy to love a guy like that. Most people leave them alone as they should, but if they’re in the concourse they are all very friendly and make eye contact with fans. This tells me two things. 1. They are all genuinely good friends. 2. They all hang out together a lot outside of work mostly in private.

Happy for Tampa and Happy for Mayfield. He is a real guy, not a phony baloney.
Guess Drake Maye is trash now to a lot of grumpy old men on this site, throwing 3 interceptions in 4th quarter, get rid of him. It happens to all QB’s, just sit back and watch how many times turnovers happen at a clutch time. But then there are times when clutch plays happen for the positive and everyone proclaims that person as the Messiah. smh

So who in that picture won’t we be able to resign because of Baker’s contract?

When the media throws out alot of reteric. one of their storylines will be correct. They will than boast about their prediction while ignoring the fake narratives.

Go Bucs!

Luke pulled an Adam (too cool for school’ Slivon). Maybe Luke should get suspended for not showing up for his teammates?

Hodad- Cody is probably the answer to your question. They’ll probably draft a G day 1 or more likely day 2 next year to replace Cody. It’s nothing against Cody. It probably would have happened even without the Baker contract. You just can’t pay 80 million a year for your OL. They rather keep their premium Tackles and replace the guards every 4 or 5 years. We all know Jason and his team draft OL really well.

OK I had thoughts of Baker leaving at the end of the season but, I’M STOKED AS F- – – !! Let’s Go Baker!!! If we can stay on the field, each week, this team has a real good chance!!!! Let’s Go Bucs!!!! Love you guys since the beginning 1976 !!!!

If the Eagles can pay Jalen Carter $152 million for 4 years we can figure out how to pay Cody and YaYa

Beej, depending on what kind of season he has, Yaya may end up getting the franchise tag. It’s nice that we have it now given that Baker is wrapped up. Of course a regular deal would be best. But it really depends on the season he has. If he gets over 10 sacks and stays healthy like he has, he’s going to command north of 20 to 25 per year.
