Rueben Bain Reacts To First Taste Of Another NFL Team

August 11th, 2026

It was not a standout day for Rueben Bain against the New York Jets in the first of two joint practices in New Jersey this week.

Joe will have notes later, but there was no big splash from Bain. Yes, he’s mortal. That doesn’t mean he had a bad day.

After the session, Joe sought Bain’s feedback on the fight-filled, up-tempo morning that saw the Bucs get a ton of work in.

“Competitive, active day, going after it with teammates and against fellow players on the Jets, just really seeing where we are as a team and seeing what kind of mentality we have,” Bain said.

Bain liked how he and the defensive front performed in 1-on-1 pass rush work against the Jets.

“Yeah, it felt good,” he said. “You know, there’s always room for improvement, but it was a good base to start off.”

Bain said all the fights at practice today (most were between the Bucs offense and the Jets defense) both surprised him a little and he said they were about players taking their jobs very seriously.

“It’s our livelihood,” Bain said. “So things get a little tense at times; we’re all grown men playing a grown-man game. But at the end of the day we all understand it’s just football.”

Joe will have practice notes later, but Joe will add here that of the various skirmishes on the field today — maybe 8 or 10 in total — none seemed to involve Bain. Joe can’t say the same for A’Shawn Robinson and Josiah Trotter. Those dudes are looking for trouble.

I think I’m gonna be a big fan of Robinson. Love the attitude!

  2. CosmoKramer Says:

Alligator arms is only good vs the Robinson offense. Shocker.

He fell to us for a reason. Another Licht draft bust.

Brady masked the stink coming from a turd of a GM.

Excited to read the details, Joe!! Thanks in advance

Yes he and the Bucs fans saw it it appears today he is a rookie. Give the Man some time . He seems to have it inperspective.

  5. football 1 Says:

Yes, hopefully the fans realize he is a Rookie. Give the Man some time . He seems to have it inperspective.

  6. Allen Lofton Says:

Sounds like the rookie’s game versus NY JETS for Bain was an awakening of playing another team instead of an teammate. You encounter real competition fighting to make their roster. There will be an adjustment phase for Bain. He’ll get better over time and hopefully be as impactful as he was at Miami.

  7. Grover Says:

He had a BAD day. Another BUST. The JBF hype will not help on field.

  8. Grover Says:

Reality meets the HYPE……Told ya so. He is too small…..

  9. Permanently Moderated Says:

Give it a rest, Cosmo. You changed your name, but not your schtick.

  10. BakerFan Says:

Here comes all the kneejerk reactions on Bain now. Incredible.

  11. 813bucboi Says:

folks calling him a bust after 1 joint practice?….not a game, but practice…cmon man lol

    GO BUCS!!!!!

  12. CosmoKramer Says:

    My schtick = Common sense

P.M. has a bee in his bonnet.

  13. G-Buc Says:

Any assumption made after a joint practice is just foolish. Control yourselves!

  14. Hodad Says:

Trotter looking for trouble. I love it.

  15. Idroolpewter&red Says:

Finally, more Bucs with bad intentions than just Goedeke. I like it!

  16. Gofortheface30 Says:

I mean, I love Bain – but I think what he excels at isn’t necessarily sacks, it’s setting the edge, being toughness and attitude. He isn’t a physical freak like a von miller in his prime, Myles garret, Lawrence Taylor or whatever. I honestly think he’s an 8-10 sack guy, and will make the defense a whole hell of a lot tougher and hopefully get off the field more and be less of the dreaded “bend but don’t break”

  17. Bucnjim Says:

    GBuc Thumbs up!

  18. It’s exciting!!! Says:

Well that’s it. No Super Bowl this season.

  19. Grover Says:

    He was dominated.

  20. Grover Says:

The new Plan 9 from outer space…….Plan 3 from Outer Space.

  21. DanBucsFan Says:

All these IDIOTS saying he is a bust after 1 practice should be pulled from their football fan cards. Good lord help some of these fools. It’s cool to have an opinion, but GTFOH with the outrageous takes from the armchair qb’swho don’t know what they are talking about.

  22. Erik with Clean Athletics™ Says:

It seems almost impossible that’s he hasn’t been wayyy overhyped.

But only because there’s been soooo much hype.

I just hope he’s solid and can command some attention to help Yaya out on the other side.

  23. Larrd Says:

Robinson makes it possible (though not ideal) to trade Vea, especially if they like Capehart or Simmons.

I would float Vea and Diaby for Maxx Crosby and Darien Porter. Throw in a draft pick, if necesssry.

You are a idiot! Just another troll

  25. Teacherman Says:

I hope you guys know that players are sore.

They are still getting in game shape.

Teams usually suck in Weeks 1-2.

Give him time. He will crack that edge.

Nobody will be able to run to his side at OLB.

He will get his sacks on 3rd down rushing from the inside.

  26. Colonel Angus Says:

Thats it man. Season’s over. Time to talk draft.

  27. Locked In Says:

IT’s like some on here are just hoping and praying for us to have a horrible draft class, horrible year. I wouldn’t even watch football if that was my mindset. Getting off busting your team? Why?

  28. Locked In Says:

I mean, plug in your pick for GM, coach, staff, front office – do they win the super bowl every year? No. You gonna bust them too for a mediocre season? Makes no sense.

  29. SlyPirate Says:

The question is why do these OLB have so much success against the Bucs OL and almost no success against the Jets?

  30. Bucswin Says:

Yelling bust after ones joint practice. Let’s us know who the quitter fans are. Quitting so soon? That’s like being on your 6th divorce and blaming them. Classic life skills. Go Bucs
