The Mike Evans Reaction (And Video)

August 2nd, 2026

Do Bucs fans still care what Mike Evans has been up to?

Well, social media interest and response to Evans’ comments and leaping catch last week would indicate the answer is a resounding, “Yes.”

Evans and his beloved 49ers threw on the pads for the first time in training camp last week and that cued Evans to turn up the juice. He skied and made a leaping grab of an end zone pass in front of second-year cornerback Upton Stout. It was an eye-popping grab. Joe had to watch a few times to make sure it wasn’t AI. It’s not. (The video is below.)

Joe shared the highlight video on X with a vomit emoji and it got 41,000 views. That’s a big number and, of course, Bucs-fan reaction was highly mixed.

Evans also spoke at a news conference about how much he’s loving the alleged “hot days” at 49ers training camp. He doesn’t consider them hot and he says his body feels great in that environment.

Tampa Bay fans care deeply about Evans, one of their favorite sons.

Joe hopes — and expects — a less murky version of the truth of why Evans left town will come out soon. All the misguided blame about the situation isn’t helping Bucs fans heal.

    Who?

  2. Jeffbuc Says:

After watching the video the article over hyped the catch quite a bit. Pretty routine he didn’t cleanly catch it with one hand completely. Even if that was a bucs highlight I wouldn’t have been that impressed. But having to jump for a ball I thought only baker through high balls. And Purdy just dropped dimes right in the chest.

  3. DBS Says:

Don’t care. He is a 49er now. Not a Buccaneer. If anyone had the guts the full story would be out. But he made his statement which included player’s stepping up for injured players .The fans in the stands out there and the culture. Even the Coach. He threw darts everywhere.

  4. Marine Buc Says:

Mike Evans quote regarding his free agency:

ā€œFirst off, I did my research on a lot of teams that I was looking at. I was looking at contenders; guys with good quarterbacks, obviously.ā€

    Good luck ME13.

I hope you found what you were searching for.

I made a quilt of all the ME13 jerseys I have bought over the past decade and I will wrap myself within it as I watch you win another Super Bowl with the far superior QB – Brock Purdy (pick #262).

    Best wishes me amigo.

  5. Sal Volatile Says:

I was going to stay quiet on this one but…..

    HEAL…..you’re kidding me….HEAL

If anyone needs to HEAL over an overpaid professional athlete changing teams I pity them.

  6. Sal Volatile Says:

All of us should be so fortunate to be paid tens of millions each year and have a fan club.

Baker’s family stole millions from him. There’s some perspective for you.

  7. BA’s Red Pen Says:

I’m a huge Mike fan and I hope he has a great finish to his career. GO BUCS

  8. Warren Brooks Lynch Says:

Looks like business as usual to me, Niners lost Pearsall who’s having a ridiculously rough start to his career. Shot last year, LCL tear in year 2, but they did get Deebo back. So much for the ā€œhe want to SF to get more targetsā€ when in reality it was probably to make sure most of whatever targets he gets are on the money. Argue better or worse, Purdy is more accurate and efficient than who Mike has been catching passes from the last 3 years.

Might not like reading it, but it’s a statistical fact.

  9. Muscle Hampster Says:

Let’s mess with him and just put him in the Bucs Ring of Honor this season

  10. BucsFan252 Says:

    Who??????

  11. Marine Buc Says:

    @ warrin

    And BOOM goes the dynamite…

Get prepared my friend. HOLD THE LINE!!!!

Soon we will be over-run by rabid Baker fans who will want to eat our brains.

Ever see the movie “World War Z”?

  12. BillyBucco Says:

    That 12ā€ vertical is real.

  13. Mikebuc40 Says:

I thought the play would be a little more dramatic , but watched him play for so long , everything looks routine with Mike. I see he is wearing the football diaper on his head, don’t remember him doing that in Tampa.

  14. DavidsHogg Says:

Wish Mike the best. Will give us something to root for if (when?) the season hits the fan

  15. Temple Terrace Bucs Says:

Wish Mike the best. He was a great player and will go in the hall one day as a BUCCANEER.

But as good as he was, he’s was never a top 2-3 wr in league and put up a lot of 1000 seasons because team sucked and were always playing from behind with Winston and other trash QBs he had over career. They’ll be just fine without him.

He’s alway been the 5th or 6th best Bucs in history. Other than one, all the REAL legends played and retired here. It’s Brooks, Selmon, Sapp, Barber, and David and then everyone else.

  16. Bokeh Says:

    Cool catch!
Looked like his tempted help cushion his fall too.

  17. Bokeh Says:

    Friking IPad team mate.

  18. MonsVenusVIP Says:

Wishing him the best of luck in his future endeavors.

  19. Bosch Says:

So what about this less murky version oh the truth? Out with it. Outs have it, Joe.

  20. SummerofGeorge Says:

Mike looks good in that uniform. He’s going to ball out.

And now with a competent HC and quality QB, win in the playoffs.

  21. Bosch Says:

    Let’s have it…

  22. SteveK Says:

Future HoF, Mike Evans, thank you for the memories, records, and the chip. All the best! I’ll be rooting for you to kick some ass!

  23. Bee Says:

Mike is gonna BALL OUT this season. He will be missed.

  24. Letsbuccingo Says:

Mikes probably going to have his best year

  25. Couch Fan Says:

Mike is never going to tell us the truth about it. But its just common sense. If Evans believed in Bowles and this team, he’d still be here. Its very simple. The dummies who keep pretending he left to pad his stats are either just angry or they never knew Mike Evans to begin with. He’s always cared more about winning. If not for Brady he might of left a long time ago.

  26. FortMyersDave Says:

Pearsall out for the season. Looks like Mike will get plenty of targets in San Fran if he stays healthy. I am guessing 3 things chased Mike: 1. Bowles/3rd and 28 2. Bucs drafting his replacement in Egbuka 3. People in Tampa took him for granted, treated him last season like he was on his retirement tour with Lavonte and he still has some goals.

  27. Kenton Smith Says:

SummerofGeorge. ā€œAnd now with a competent HC and a quality QB, win in the playoffs.ā€

Dude, I watched that competent HC and quality QB get their a$$e$ handed to them by about 40 points in their last playoff game about 6 months ago by the same team that we beat ( at Seattle) a few months before that. Evans was at the end of the bench. I’m really not sure if he traveled with the team.

But that Niners team is special. Especially when they visited Tampa last year and got their a$$e$ kicked- with an exclamation point. Evans, again, kept the bench warm.

SummerofGeorge. I like Mike Evans, too. But you don’t have the sense to come in out of the rain.

  28. MadMax Says:

Good luck Big Mike….I get it.

  29. DavidBigBucsFan99 Says:

Of course a Moisty Boyy who never watched the Bucs until his moisture maker played for them came up here to claw and scratch at a Bucs fan because he called Purdy a quality qb. A bunch of triggered fish that group of Boyyz. True Dawgs get tired of Bakers try hard faux “moxie” rah rah, hype man, attention seeking and 4th quarter turnovers routine. Then on top of ALL that the coaching staff here and the taste of 3rd&28 and 4th&14 to get out of his mouth.

Happy eating Mike until you play against us.

  30. jason light Says:

Sounds like joe know the truth about why he left. Our reporters are so terrible they cant break the juicy story why he had to leave town!

  31. Winny Testaverde Says:

In retrospect, I wish the Bucs would have taken a knee ( with the playoffs on the line) in the 2024 season finale vs the Taints instead of hand delivering Evans another 1000 yard season. I’m petty like that…and Evans showed zero loyalty at the end. Glad he’s gone…McMillan deserves those targets.

  32. ATLBuc Says:

His pants are too short! Being in San Fran has changed him already!!

  33. Oxycondomns Says:

any coincidence he left and they didnt resign dean , and are low balling vea and baker? he saw the direction the team was going in

  34. Reggierobyswatch Says:

Worse than watching my ex with her new boyfriend

  35. TexasBuc 1776 Says:

Love Mike, great player, teammate, and human being. Wishing him all the best.

P.S. Never heard him as pissed publicly as when he shouted 3 and 28.

  36. Simple T Says:

He had the strongest camp ever last year. He couldn’t be guarded. Remember?

    2025 Season Statistics
    Games played: 8
    Receptions: 30
    Receiving yards: 368
    Receiving touchdowns: 3
    Yards per reception: 12.3
    Longest reception: 45 yards

He wouldn’t have been our top reciever…. Glad he found a spot where he could be one @ this point in his career but we will be better without him. I don’t think it’s a mystery why he left and it’s not Baker/Purdy or Todd. Shanahan promised him WR1 and read #1 and we weren’t going to do that.

    LFG Bucs šŸ˜Ž
